Great local fresh seafood vendor - fresh and frozen fish, shrimp, oysters , and fabulous crab cakes! Ask the staff for storage recommendations and recipe ideas, the are very knowledgeable. They also print their own cute super soft teeshirts - get a few!!

Gave us great advice on what to buy and even ideas on preparing it. Stop in and get some fresh fish you won't regret it. We have visited Southport many times and never stopped by and now we will go everytime we are here.

What a fantastic find this cute lil seafood market is. They have all of the fresh catches of the day up on the chalkboard and Billy is super friendly, knowledgeable & helpful. My bro & I picked out some freshly caught Vermilion snapper, trigger, grunt & flounder. Nigel, the resident pelican🦤, is a friendly happy camper with his daily fish guts. He strutted up like he owned the place & was full of personality. The owners keep him alive & well stocked with fish each winter to make sure he's cared for and doesn't starve. You get to pick your fish out & they go right around the corner to the sink to clean & debone them for you if you wish. You can sit right on the water & watch them clean your fish. Doesn't get any more fresh or fun than that. Don't forget to look for Nigel! Billy had tons of helpful suggestions on how to cook what we bought & his wife was also super friendly. Go see them if you're in the area! You won't be disappointed. They even have a cute batch of recipe ideas in a binder at the counter you can peruse for inspiration on how to cook up what you are buying. Can't wait to sauté up this fresh catch in the cast iron w/ lemon butter goodness. Thank you to the 5 generations of talent that have kept this lil jewel of a seafood joint the treasure that it is.

Tho the historic building itself is a darling iconic photo worthy spot at the waterfront, Potter’s family-owned for generations fresh seafood shoppe in Southport is worth a long drive to sample! A weekend visit to this coastal town isn’t complete without fresh shrimp to cook in your rental or bring home on ice! We are so happy they survived Ian and reopen this week!!

Went here back in early 2020 on the recommendation of a local. It was the best shrimp I ever have. Everytime I'm in the area, I make sure to stop at Potter's. A friendly & helpful family business that stands by their quality. Highly recommend!

When visiting Southport, I came to Potter's Seafood because it was used as a filming location for Dawson's Creek. Pacey had his boat docked here. I read the reviews about their fresh seafood and was going to stop inside, but unfortunately, they weren't opened when we were there. We have added it to our list to go back to when we return. Can't wait tk try it!

Generations of this family have operated this Local business. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, friendly operation. Great inventory of fresh caught fish. Shop local, keep these folks in business, here in Southport.

This is the best seafood market that we have ever been to in our entire lives! The sushi-grade salmon is awesome and the tuna is as well. Also, remember to get some local shrimp. The owner and staff are amiable and knowledgeable as well. This is a must-go place if you find yourself within 100 miles of the Southport, NC area. It is well worth the drive. Charles and Libby T.

Wonderful customer service. The fish monger even rinsed off some fresh fish so I could see what they looked like, even though I wasn't going to be able to buy one today, as we were traveling from ILM, and had no way to keep them cold all afternoon. I wish I had written down his name. :( They have four boats (all but one were out at sea- see photo). They had several different fish to choose from including Mackerel and Trigger fish. Interesting note: they also had several dozens of farm fresh eggs for sale.... NICE store - and staff- will surely return...and not forget my cooler next time!! Thanks so much, y'all! :)

Best shrimp we have ever had. A husband and wife team run this small seafood shack on the waterfront in Southport. If you are within 50 miles of Southport, you should make the detour and stop in. We picked up 2#s the first night and were just amazed at the flavor, freshness and plumpness of the shrimp. On our way out of town the next day we bought 3#s and a peck of local oysters. I have shucked hundreds of oysters and haven't ever seen liquor this clear in an oyster. All the oysters were plump and fresh and had a wonderful briny flavor. The husband spent some time with us explaining all about Carolina shrimp and how the industry works and then explained all about the local oysters. They clearly take great pride in being fishermen and that pride is shown in the quality of all the products that they carry.

Super friendly and they explain to my dad brother and I all how to skin and d bone out fish they explained the process of everything they do so I highly recommend going here for ALL of your seafood because you get a great experience and a story with your meal

I'm originally from eastern NC and Potters seafood is the only place I will buy seafood. Everything is fresh and caught right in NC waters. No Chinese imports there. Buy from someone you can trust. Ask for Royce. BUY LOCAL, BUY POTTERS!

We got off the boat from Bald Head and wanted fresh shrimp before heading back to Raleigh. Found them on Yelp and they were open on Easter! Bought some HUGE white shrimp fresh off the boat - right behind the shop! Some were still wiggling! And cheap!! Royce is super nice and took the heads off in a flash for us. He says you can keep updated on their Facebook page as to their hours and what they have. A great find!
