Where to Dine and Drink in Petoskey

"Ask avid home cooks where they like to eat on their night off and Pour is a common answer. Maine lobster tail served with celery root soubise, Iberico chorizo, and an almond gremolata with sumac, Michigan rabbit loin with king trumpet mushrooms, fiddleheads, a morel cream, and pickled mustard seeds, are just a few of the specialities to have come from the scratch kitchen of chef Colin Campbell. Be sure to pair these and other beautiful menu items with wines from sommelier Todd Chinnock’s well-curated list. Chinnock lists some 55 selections by the glass or half glass, including some harder-to-land allocations that he has worked hard to bring to northern Michigan." - Stacey Brugeman

I visit Petoskey about once a month and the restaurant scene was getting pretty boring. Leto’s Osteria is in the space that was Pour (wine bar /restaurant). I believe it’s the same ownership as Tap 30 and The Back Lot (beer garden). Leto’s is probably the best restaurant in downtown Petoskey (or close second to Chandler’s.) Leto’s focuses on pasta dishes-they make their pasta in-house. We ordered two appetizers and two pasta dishes. The apps were the best. The turnip dish was our favorite but the potato was good as well. We ordered the mushroom pasta dish and the vegetables/burrata dish. The mushroom was the better dish of the two. Here are my minor criticisms of the pasta dishes-both dishes were brown. I think the veg pasta should have a fresher color to it. Also, the veg pasta was really saucy, especially once you break into the burrata. The extra sauce kind of overpowered the fresh pasta. Really not a major issue. I ordered the house Old Fashioned. It was really good. The ambiance of the restaurant was very pleasant. Nice decor and lighting. Service was awesome. The waiter was knowledgeable(he suggested the turnips which were the best dish) and courteous. We will be back for sure!

Our meal was exceptional! The turnip small plate was remarkable, the mushroom pasta was creative and absolutely delicious! Our server was helpful and very friendly. I would absolutely recommend this for a wonderful culinary experience!!!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if you like it when your food tastes really good, then you should probably eat here. My girlfriend and I had the michigan asparagus gratinato to start followed by the mushroom mafaldine and the shrimp arrabbiata. Our waitress had great recommendations and everything was a slam-dunk when it came to flavor. Be sure to save room for dessert because we ended the night with their strawberry cheesecake and it was delicious! Also they box your food for you which is so rare in the United States these days, so bonus points for that.

Great food. Great service. Lovely place to dine. Need more protein options. They need to expand their small plates. Definitely would return.

We had a lovely Sunday night dinner at Leto's Osteria recently. Sat at the bar, which has a great feel. Excellent drinks. The potato appetizer with the trout roe and dill humus was perfect. For entrees, my wife had the swordfish baked in parchment, I had the bucatini carbonara. Both were fabulous. We can't say enough about the quality of the experience. Run, don't walk to Leto's. We'll definitely be back.

We ate here tonight and everything was fantastic! The lovely gentleman who greeted us, and seated us on the patio, because we had our dog, was charming and welcoming, The server, Alexa(?) who was informative, very professional and attentive was great! The food was exquisite! We started with the wagyu beef bresaola, earthy, fruity, and excellent blend of tastes. We moved onto to the bucatini carbonara and the sweet pea paccheri. Unbelievably authentic and beyond what we expected. We are major foodies from LA, and will tell everyone we know to make sure this is a restaurant they don’t want to miss. Many thanks for a marvelous evening, and for being so kind to our dog, Birdie. Annie and David

The staff and food are 10/10. From the drink selection down to the desserts, the warmth of the decor, and the kind staff.. this is the place to be. Every bite is an adventure in its own & I love enjoying what letos has to offer! Grateful for good food.

Chef Ray has a deep love and passion for his art and you can taste it in every bite! We have had the pleasure of dining at Letos twice now and still have more we want to come back to try. This is the place to go in Northern Michigan!

Yelp
Our first time here as "Leto's" did not disappoint. We came here a few times in its previous iteration as well. We arrived early without a reservation and were seated at a high top table at the street side window. Our server Valerie was attentive, knowledgeable, and relaxed. She provided recommendations we were more than happy to accept. Beginning with wine, the dragon bianco white blend luigi baudana easy-drinking deliciousness. My husband gives kudos to the barman for his Rittenhouse Rye Manhattan on a rock w/nice vermouth. The carrots, oh my, have the carrots. Carrots? What can be done with carrots that's not been done before? Trust me and savor those flavors. (I just wish I'd taken a photograph before we devoured them). Next was the burrata. Also outstanding but kinda ruined my appetite for the main course. Mine - the mushroom mafaldine and my husband - the rye gnocchetti, a venison bolognese. Portions were large, "small" plates had plenty to share. Flavors to die for. House made pasta cooked to al dente perfection. Looking forward to the leftovers. Benissimo!

Yelp
Service and ambiance was great! The food absolutely delivered--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. We started with the burrata, which was creamy and perfectly paired. The mushroom pasta was rich, earthy, and comforting, while the rigatoni had just the right bite of spice and was full of flavor. Each dish felt thoughtfully prepared and authentic.

Yelp
Second time here. Unbelievable food service & ambiance. Valerie served us on our 30th anniversary & Mady served us tonight. Both times we have been fantastic!

Yelp
Read some reviews from here where people just complain because of their egos, so here's a real review. Our server, Jonas, was outstanding. Good menu knowledge and provided great conversation when prompted. Which is something I personally enjoy. He elevated our experience. Additionally, other servers and staff members came around to check on us. So, as far as service goes, it was great. The food was great. We go tuna carpaccio as a starter which was very good. For entrees we got Cacio e Pepe and the bucatini carbonara. Both were exceptional pasta dishes. As a personal carbonara enthusiast, order it. It was great. Good service and good food make a good restaurant. Go here and enjoy yourself!

Yelp
Just wow! I'm SUCH A FAN OF THIS PLACE. Mady was the best server and the ambiance is stellar. We had the carrots (to die for), the shaved Brussels and the arrabiata. We were all blown away by this food. Do yourself a favor and get here. So so good!

Yelp
Great food, great drinks, and great service! The pasta is made in house and is excellent. Their old fashioned is a great take on a classic, and their spiced pear spritz was very refreshing. Good vibes and good food

Kix A.

Yelp
Four of us were there just after opening. The space is pretty loud and the tables are VERY close together. The shaved Brussel sprouts were really good. However, we had four different entrees that disappointed. The menu has changed so telling you what we had would be irrelevant. We all agreed that things were a little under seasoned and very over salted. I hope, for their sake, they dial it in. I'll be listening for feedback from friends' experiences.

Yelp
Went for my wife's birthday with a group and we had a truly wonderful experience!! The pastas were outstanding! Pricey, but large portions and for the quality it felt worth it! The main dish we split and it was outstanding as well! But the highlight was the zeppolis! One of the best desserts I've had in northern Michigan!!! I live here and so to me, that's huge!!!! The staff was so nice and helpful and the chef went out of his way to be seen and was charming and kind! We will be back and we will tell everyone about it!!! Thanks!!!

Gale K.

Yelp
Excellent wait staff. We arrived on time but our table wasn't ready. We were seated at another table, served drinks then moved to the table we requested. The food was excellent. Started with the asparagus appetizer, followed by the Cacio e Pepe, absolutely wonderful! Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We visited for the first time and were so disappointed! We live here in the summer and this place is a lake town loaded with kids all summer. They make absolutely no accommodation for kids and had my daughter carry her stroller upstairs as if they didn't want babies in the main area of the restaurant. My daughter took her baby to restroom and they have NO changing table which is absolutely horrible as she had to change her on floor. The waitress would not change the noodle type to accommodate my granddaughter and they have NO kids menu. The pork chop was so thick for Milanese style and very tough. The ribeye was also not great. I will give them high praise for their appetizers! The fried cauliflower and brussel salad were amazing! I'd definitely steer clear with small children as they don't seem to want them there. I'll wait to get back to Chicago for high end Italian food.

Ross S.

Yelp
1-star for the food, staff and service were 5-star! Stay away from the PORK CHOP thing!!!! I've eaten a lot of exotic foods but this was too weird. The drinks were very "unique" and I had to choke down both mine and my wife's. First review ever, downloaded the app just to get the message out. The issue was a $200 meal we didnt like or finish. The real heroes in this story will be the janitorial staff of the local hotel we are staying at.

Megan M.

Yelp
They refuse to make accommodations to dietary restrictions and are incredibly rude about it. Avoid at all costs

Sam C.

Yelp
This is not a restaurant to bring kids to. They have zero options for kids and are unwilling to make adjustments to accommodate at all. Most of their dishes are pasta dishes, so we asked them to just have two orders of pasta with butter and Parmesan cheese on the side for the kids. We figured that this would be easy considering they had Cacio e Pepe on the menu. Their response was that they were unable to boil plain noodles for us. Overall, the other food that we had was decent but they seem to think that they are a Michelin-rated restaurant or something. Rude staff definitely were off-putting. I would definitely go elsewhere if you have kids.

Debbie D.

Yelp
my pasta came out barely lukewarm. my friends was piping hot. I told the server and he grabbed a fork and took a bite than told me its supposed to be served that way. first of all I've never had a server taste my dish at the table. I asked them to warm it up and it came back exactly the same way they never offered to redo it. just said oh well we will take it back and refund your money. we ordered to focaccia bread and they charge you for evo and butter. seriously? ive waitressed for years. I was being polite. the correct thing to do was redo the dish bd pologize or t least take it off the bill. they did neither. by the way I still left a tip which they didn't deserve. will never go again
