20 Best Hotels in Lisbon (2024)

"For a central location Pousada de Lisboa is an impressive conversion of a vast Pombaline pile on the Praça do Comércio. The Baixa location couldn't be better—close to the main tourist attractions and right next to the River Tagus—and the rooms closest to the square have epic views. With simple decor and a classic restaurant, this is a reliable hotel that puts you right in the middle of everything Lisbon has to offer. —Matthew Buck Price: Doubles from $280 Address: Pousada de Lisboa, Praça do Comércio 31-34, 1100-148 Lisbon, Portugal" - Abigail Malbon

Pousada de Lisboa

"Tell us a little about this place.Located steps from the Tagus River on Lisbon’s most iconic square, Praça do Comércio, this recently restored property embodies the nexus of Portuguese luxury and heritage. It would be easy to spend your entire time in the lobby and lounge, which is adorned with museum pieces on loan, but after checking in to one of the tastefully opulent guest rooms, you might just spend your whole vacation there. Great location, and top-notch design: count us in. Who else stays here?Regulars and first-timers favor this classic hotel for its art, restored moldings, stained-glass windows, and modern furniture. We're part of that contingent. How was check-in? Part of the Pestana Hotel Group, this property's hospitality is consistently stellar, from check-in to check-out. Take a moment to get lost exploring the hotel’s nooks and crannies, which are filled with one-of-a-kind artwork. Excellent. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about the digs.Rooms retain the regal air of the property's previous incarnation, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but with an added dose of luxury; baroque moldings complement the modern furniture and soothing blue-and-white palette. Tip: In the Mezzanine rooms, stairs separate the bedroom from the living area, and some offer a view of Castelo de São Jorge. How about the little things, like the mini bar, or shower goodies? What made your stay more comfortable? All rooms come with a mobile phone—with data—that you can use while exploring Lisbon. In-house amenities include a minibar, a plush bathrobe and slippers, and air conditioning. Excellent. How about room service, and the dining options in general? Worth it?Rib Beef & Wine draws patrons—guests and non-guests alike—with its meaty mains. Order the tenderloin tips with pineapple pickle and Portuguese wine sauce. Thanks for the tip. Is there anyone on staff we should become fast friends with?Tap the concierge for in-the-know recommendations that will steer you away from the crowds. Will do. Any other services or features you want to shout out? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Don’t miss the sleek indoor swimming pool and private sunbathing deck. Got it. Bottom line: Why is this place worth our time and money? It's a taste of Portuguese heritage and luxury." - Jenna Scatena

The hotel had fairly new updates. The acommendations were nice and the air conditioner actually worked as it should! I loved that there was a small patio outside my room. Also, it really made a difference that there was free coffee, water and breakfast is included. Plus the hotel gives a free mini bar including beer, and a bottle of liquor.

Beautiful, historic hotel that is centrally located in the Alfama district. Tram 28 stop is a stone's throw away. Castelo de Sao Jorge is a short walk up from the hotel. Easy walking distance to Prada do Comercio and Arco da Rua Agusta. Very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms (at least the one we stayed in) are on the smallish side but still very nice. Complimentary water as well as a small bottle of Ginja Sea Rival cherry liqueur. Highly recommended.

The hotel and common areas are lovely. Excellent location. The staff are charming, helpful and professional. The breakfast was excellent. The little gifts are charming. The room is badly designed. It is too small for a couple travelling with a couple of cases. There is little space to unpack, there is no floor space to leave the cases. I suppose ideal for a weekend break, carry-on only, not for people like us on a long tour. We were at the back. There was no noise from outside, however there is no sound insulation between rooms. I can tell you when next door charged their phones! We heard and felt it on the wall. Why such a big tv? No one goers to Lisbon to watch TV. And it dominates such a small room. Also, the whole floor would hear. The curtains are too narrow. It is impossible to make the room fully dark. Not a great choice for a new couple, wanting a romantic break. The decision to use a hollow sliding door to the bathroom means that every bathroom experience is shared !

Stayed at this hotel between 11th and 15th March. |All the staff we met spoke excellent English so checking in was very easy. The staff are very pleasant, knowledgeable and very keen for you to have a brilliant stay. |We had a room which overlooked the courtyard at the back, our room was very quiet and even though our room was close to the lift we heard no noise. Our room was extremely clean and made up every day to the same standard. There was plenty of space for us to hang our clothes on the shelves and rack provided. The bed mattress was of a super standard and would be delighted to have that mattress at home! The mini bar was stocked and free (though you have to pay to have it restocked) and the free local liqueur and ceramic tile were a lovely touch and very much appreciated. |This hotel is located in an excellent area where there is easy access to the many sights of Lisbon. Be prepared for lots of walking up and down the hills, the modern trams are frequent and fast, the old ones are packed but fun. |There are plenty of places to eat near to the hotel, in particular Pizza Romana Alfama and Santa Restaurante & Bar. Further away but walkable is Solar 31 Da Calçada for superb seafood, book all of these online so not to be disappointed. |I can’t recommend staying at this hotel enough, great breakfast, superb location with lovely staff.

This hotel is fabulous the staff were all helpful and multilingual nothing was to much trouble. The staff were very responsive and attentive special thanks to Ines for sorting out our transport. Great location and an awesome breakfast. Perhaps I don't get out much but they have coffee and water available all the time no charge. Rooms comfortable and shower powerful. Highly recommend we felt safe.

This hotel was awesome and exceeded our expectations. You cannot beat the location! Right in the middle of the historic part of the city, this hotel was beautifully renovated. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was warm and helpful! Highly recommend!
