Vida Sol E Mar, Praia do Rosa, Santa Catarina, Brazil - Explore & Book

"A 2-hour drive south of Brazil's most fashionable southern city, Florianopolis, and a final judder up a steep paved trackway takes you to Vida Sol e Mar. Perched on a hillside, this eco-resort overlooks a beautiful fresh water lagoon and the perfect surf beach, Praia do Rosa. From July to November when it's cooler, migrating whales use the bay as their nursery, and since making his home here in 1993, Argentinian owner Enrique and his family have created a great base from which to explore the region all year round. You're within a natural conservation area, but fear not, there's no need to rough it: amongst its lodgings are 14 gorgeous villas sleeping 4-10 (some of which can be booked by the suite), all a short walk from the beach. Built from local rocks, each one resembles something from the "Flintstones" but inside they're far from primitive. All are slickly designed with well chosen personal furnishings, mod cons and great views of the ocean. Just the ticket for active types, nature lovers and families. Highs Stylish, well-equipped villas with the benefit of hotel servicesUnspoilt beach location with wonderful views of the bayOne of the best places in South America to watch whales: the hotel is the HQ for Brazil's Right Whale InstituteGreat place to learn to surf - Rodrigo will get you standing in no timeWatching the moon rise over the sea at dinner The charming owners, who speak good English and add many personal touches Lows Don't expect a hectic nightlife (although the beach is buzzing in peak season Dec-Feb) or to revel in Brazilian music and dance as you would up northBeing Brazil there's an insect community too - just close your glass doors at dusk to avoidThe villas are top-notch but the original hotel facilities (restaurant, pool and budget eco-rooms) are not of the same standard and could do with updatingThe driveway is steep and can get a little tricky - but they have a 4-wheel drive and most guests opt for an airport transfer" - Aidan Forestier-Walker

What an amazing place! Last year (Nov 2024) my wife and I had our wedding at Vida Sol e Mar. We had about about half of our guests coming from other countries, primary the USA. Most of them arrived early and we all got to enjoy the resort a few days before and also after the wedding. This made for a great experience. First, the location is awesome. The views are amazing and it’s a short walk to the beach or to local shops. The accommodations are clean and well kept and give a real beach vibes. If you have a chance try to rent on elf the beach Vilas, totally worth it. Those are extra nice! The restaurant Engenho do Mar, attached to the resort deserves massive compliments. Not only for serving really good food but also for how kind the staff is. The staff was able to communicate easily with our guests by speaking Portuguese, English and Spanish. The extra level of kindness and dedication from the staff stems from the resort and restaurant owners and managers. Rodrigo and his family and team went above and beyond to make sure that our guests (including grandparents) had an amazing time while staying at the resort for our wedding. We could have not chosen a better place and team to be part of our wedding. The resort, the restaurant and the venue have amazing views, the food is really good, and the staff treats everyone with a level of kindness and attention that is hard to match! Thank you Rodrigo and the entire team at Vida Sol e Mar and restaurant Engenho do Mar for making our time there unforgettable!

My husband and I had our wedding at Vida Sol e Mar, and couldn't be happier with our choice for a venue. Our wedding day was beautiful; it was everything we hoped for and more. We are a Brazilian-American couple and half of our guests were American, half were Brazilian. We are so grateful to the amazing team at Vida Sol e Mar for helping us to make our guests from all over the world feel welcome and comfortable. The resort went above and beyond by doing things such as helping guests arrange travel to and from the airport, providing recommendations for local excursions and services, and even printing menus in English so the Americans could read them. The food from the restaurant is delicious, the views from the resort are stunning (the wedding photos look amazing!), and the rooms are comfortable and clean. Most importantly, the staff entire is unmatched in their professionalism, friendliness, and proactiveness. We received dozens of compliments from our guests on the food, resort, and staff- and we had the wedding of our dreams. We can't wait to come back again.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Vida Sol e Mar resort. I came here for a wedding and stayed in one of the houses on the property. Everything was really well done, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I stayed in a house with 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, all of which had AC. The room I was in had a balcony with a view of the ocean and a nice bathroom with a double tub and dual shower. The fixtures were updated and everything worked well. The kitchen was modern and had everything you needed to prepare a meal if you wanted. The restaurant was also very good, and the food presentation was beautiful. There is also a breakfast buffet for guests. It’s a quick walk (under 5 minutes) to a secluded beach, and there are chairs and umbrellas available to borrow along the way. There’s also a pool on the property that has a view of the ocean if it’s too windy at the beach or if you don’t want to walk. The owner and staff were so friendly and helpful, and had recommendations of things to do in the area and even for the next city we were going to. The owner also has a very cute dog on the property who is very sweet. She was a highlight as well. I highly recommend this resort. It has everything you need on-site, and is conveniently located where you can easily walk to either the beach or shopping downtown. I would definitely stay here again if I had the chance.

The room was good enough and with a breathtaking view.||Very nice to wake up overlooking the beach.||||The whole place have a calm atmosphere, with well-kept gardens||The restaurant inside the place is very convenient and offer delicious food. Try the seafood spaghetti.||Another advantage is the proximity to the beach.||||The staff is friendly, attentive, and honest. By mistake our chalet was not advised about an event at the restaurant we complained about the noise, and we got the night refunded. No questions asked.||||||Tip: take the next street and then turn left and then right at the top of the hill. Rosa's streets are quite challenging.

Stayed three days in the suite of beachvilla Gavião, a kind of lodge. Very stylish, personal. A place you never want to leave. Great views on both sides of the Praia do Rosa-bay. A 7 min. walk to the beach, great surf. Beautiful garden. The staff is amazing. The villa was very clean.||Another great advantage of Vida Sol e Mar is their whale watchingtrip in the months July, August, September (most whales) and October. Their minivan leaves at the pousada for the ride to the boat. The trip can be cancelled due to weatherconditions (high waves). Beware of seasickness.||The access to the pousada can be tricky if you don’t drive a 4x4. The hillroad is steep, narrow, and slippery when wet. You can, as we did, ask assistance on your way out. And ask for directions for getting there in the first place, because the pousada is not easy to find. ||The difficult access could have another consequence. If you don’t want to cook your own meal you’ll visit the restaurant of the pousada. This restaurant (fickle quality) doesn’t match the high standard of the beachvilla’s. The same goes for the breakfast. But during weekends and holidays they seem to upgrade. ||Nevertheless this place equals (if the whales are present) at least the Iguazu Falls.

The pictures on line looked good sure enough and the location just sold itself, it being such picturesque landscape but in physical reality - we were shocked!||||Firstly we were paying on average of £450-500 per day for a 2 bed villa including breakfast so we expected to get a standard that reflected those prices. Unfortunately it was sub standard even if the prices were cheaper, it wouldn't have reflected its true value it was so bad. ||||The villa was dirty, main reception filthy and all the facilities run down and unmaintained. Furniture hadn't seen a steam clean probably since it was first purchased which must have been well over a decade ago. The swimming pool was grey - my kids wouldn't go near it which was unusual for them - thankfully we had the sea on our doorstep.||||Don't even ask about the bathrooms and toilets in the villa and the main lobby. The bed linen and pillows were stained and yellow but instead of apologies or attempts to improve or provide fresh ones, we were given excuses about 'sea air'. Mould grew happily in the bathrooms around the wooden panels that some bright spark had placed directly next to the shower and bath taps and main water systems...and of course you could smell it...||||Even the grout around the cheap tiles on the floors were mouldy and when we brought it up, we were told 'yes, the smell of mould is a problem our guests have told us of before'. Apparently no one has ever complained about anything else but this before - (so why haven't you ripped out all the idiotic wooden panelling and mouldy tiles and renovated what you know is a problem then)??||||The food was dismal and my son ( a connoiseur of fine foods at 8) was distraught at the basic breakfast buffet with its cheap sliced white breads, jam, cereals and minimal selection of fruit. And so we chose to eat in the local village of which we were restricted to being on foot for the bulk of our stay there.||||The children's playground was actually dangerous and we forbid our kids (8 and 5 yrs old) to play there as where there were supposed to be monkey bars, the bars were missing but instead there were a row of three 6 inch nails sticking out on both sides. We brought it to their attention but upon leaving, all the nails were still there untouched.||||We had also arrived right at a time when the local village just finished its season and the whole place went from busy and lively to a ghost town in the matter of days which added to our misery of being stuck in a hell hole. No - one bothered to tell us either that we would be staying in a ghost town for 5 out of the 8 days we'd be there or that we'd need a car as there was little to do in just a ghost town accessible to you by foot!||||It was co-owned by a brother and 2 sisters - one sister being particularly defensive and unhelpful in coming back to us about our issues and the other sister being proactive and interested in our opinion. We did try to get a refund but as they took all our money up front (half of which was a deposit paid over the phone while still in the UK), they said they could only give us a 'credit' to return some other time and unless they had a complete building reformation and renovation in the near future, that was a pretty pointless gesture on their part - if you can call it a gesture. ||||Having said all of that, the breakfast kitchen staff were very friendly and sweet and my son had a great surfing lesson from the brother co-owner of the hotel. ||||All in all, it was very expensive and nowhere near the standard to be expected for that kind of money. Be vary wary of booking something like this without really knowing what you're paying for!

Rodrigo and Sabrina and the Vida Sol E mar are the best place I have ever been in Brazil, maybe South America. They just don't make them like this anymore. Warm people, spectacular food, the setting was devastatingly beautiful, running on the beach, walking between the beaches, omigod. I was with my 16 year old son, and we both were simply blown away. It was winter, and we made fires and read, like we were in Vermont. Then we went and watched 60 foot whales launch out of these terrifyingly rough seas. then we had lunch watching 50 surfers navigate those same seas, and in the cold cold cold. I see these reviews that are terrible. And I think, you get more in life with honey than you do with vinegar......just sayin!!

Praia da Rosa is a beautiful yet hard to access beach. This country-club like property has direct access to the beach, yet is close enough to town to walk. We stayed two weeks in one of their cottages (Villa Beija-Flor.) The first week was the week of carnival and most cottages were booked; the second one was much more lightly booked (and prices decrease accordingly.) The typical occupant of a cottage is a family with children, and in many cases the parents and/or the children practice surf. Lodging includes a very generous breakfast that goes from scrambled eggs to luscious tropical food. For other meals there is a restaurant which serves good food with a fusion touch. There is also a small spa with massage service, and various outdoor activities like surf classes and boat tours of the bay. I would give the hotel 5 starts were it not for some infrastructure problems we experienced, like on and off (and usually slow) internet service and a pipe that burst twice under our water heater. That said the staff was always responsive and fixed things as soon as they were able to. I will gladly return to this place if I am in Praia da Rosa.
