Where to Eat Pozole in Chicago | Eater Chicago

"Guerrero natives are so serious about their pozole that they even have a day dedicated to it —Thursdays. There are a few stories about the reason behind this tradition. One of them attributes its origin to an effort to feed an entire community and avoid wasting corn, while another one highlights a patriotic episode in the history of Mexico. Both tales illustrate the importance of pozole as a dish of community and identity. And it is always Thursday at Pozolería Iguala, where green, red, and white pozole are served year-round. Guerrerenses insist that this pozole reminds them of home. Here, pozole is made with pork only, and garnishes include cabbage, lime, avocado, pork rinds, onion, sliced radishes, and tostadas. Taquitos are also available for purchase. Pozolería Iguala opened a second restaurant in March on South Kedzie." - Brenda Storch

Pozole had good flavor. Needed more meat. Burrito was just ok. Street parking was limited. Service was non existent.

You want to try authentic Mexican food? Yes!!! Well I welcome you to try it here at Pozoleria Iguala. Here you find authentic Mexican food that will truly make your mouthwater. You should try their pozole that's off the hook. Highly recommend.

The atmosphere and the esthetic is far better than previous owners made attempted it to be. Never a large crowd, and they support #byob. Authentic foods never dipped in unnamed chemicals. However, despite the adorableness of the waiters, what truly stops this location from being my go-to Mexican restaurant despite literally living less than 40 seconds away from it. Is the lack of public restroom usage and the limited, if not arcane menu listings. To provide more context to the latter, essentially, its only true weakness is the fact that there is a genuine lack of creativity on the menu, but that does not denote quality. Although many of the nearby restaurants are friendly a competition is a competition it's still there although indirect, this one location within this very zip code that it's in has to compete albeit indirectly against upwards of a dozen different Mexican eateries of various classes. And this menu is so carbon copy that I actually failed and being able to find anything on it that makes it stand out or could be considered a signature piece or dish. In fact, even though I haven't looked at it again, I'm pretty sure I didn't see a Chef's special section. Although a lack of creative desserts is something I will never hold against any restaurant, a lack of creative items on the menu given the wealth of knowledge and resources in the Mexican food vocabulary it's a little bit disappointing that I could literally go to almost any other restaurant in driving and walking distance and the entirety of the zip code 60629 and almost not even be able to distinguish this menu. They have all the tools and resources, but they chose averageness despite the insane and amazing quality of the food. If you ask to customize your order, they will attempt it to the best of their abilities as well, so the room for creativity is obviously there, but it's under utilized if even at all.

Tried to give them another chance. They used to be really good but they have fallen off. I’m going to give them a break

First time coming here. One of the most authentic Mexican- Guerrero cuisine! When you try the salsa you know the food is going to be A++. Pozole verde and rojo are outstanding. Gorditas are big and delicious my sister ordered de asada and chicharon verde. The Horchata is delicious.
