Phuket & Southern Thailand’s Big 5

"Here’s what our Inspectors said about Prai Raya (Bib Gourmand): After winning the favour of locals in Phuket, residents of the capital are equally starry-eyed for Prai Raya's southern-style cuisine. The signature dish is the yellow curry noodle dish with large chunks of fresh crabmeat served with coconut milk. To ensure freshness, ingredients like crab, vegetables, and shrimp are brought in weekly from Phuket. Dine indoors in a relaxing atmosphere or al fresco in the charming garden that makes you forget you're in a city." - Mimi Grachangnetara

I didn’t expect to find such authentic Southern Thai food in a cozy, Thai-style setting. The dishes turned out to be delicious and flavorful, with prices that are very reasonable for the quality. I also really appreciate the restaurant’s design and the relaxing music that completes the atmosphere.

We had a good time at this southern style Thai restaurant. Located in a sprawling villa with spacious interior and designed in local style, it gives a nice, laidback vibe. It used to feature in Michelin guide with Bib Gourmand recognition. Menu is quite big and comprises of all types of food one could ask for. I have to say that portions are substantially bigger than other similar places we have visited over the years. Taste is also very good. Spiciness is reasonable, probably manageable for the most international customers.

Extremely good seafood, English is good enough to make sure you get what you need. Staff is super kind and accommodating. Atmosphere is relaxed and no rush by staff.

This food is delicious! We got the peanut chilli satay crackers, the yellow crab curry and the local vegetable noodle dish. Staff are very attentive and friendly and the venue is relaxed and air conditioned.

My second visit here and it didn’t disappoint! Had crab curry, steam pork belly, melinjo leaves stir fried and pineapple baked rice, ended with mango sticky rice. Loved all the dishes the taste was on the light and fragrant side, not too heavily seasoned just the way I like it. The sticky rice has the most amazing taste, the natural and original glutinous taste. Recommended!!

Very great tasting food. We had the recommended crab curry, very delicious, and also the seafood curry delivered in a coconut. Nice presentation. I will be back!

Lovely restaurant recommended by our hotel. We all loved the yellow crab curry, Prawn Tom Yum with coconut and Crab with chilli and garlic. Very authentic restaurant full of locals. Friendly staff who don’t speak lots of English but it’s not a problem as they know enough and are so helpful. The crab was delicious in each dish. Lovely cool air conditioned restaurant - well lit and with a busy local feel. We will definitely reckoned to our friends.

A great taste of Phuket cuisine, in the heart of Bangkok! This was the fanciest restaurant we visited in Thailand, and although much more expensive, it was definitely worth it! For what you're getting, It's actually quite cheap compared to European prices. Fish balls, watermelon spicy salad and mango sticky rice, were all amazing! Of course, you should go for a shrimp or lobster dish, too.
