Phuket & Southern Thailand’s Big 5

"Here’s what our Inspectors said about Prai Raya (Bib Gourmand): After winning the favour of locals in Phuket, residents of the capital are equally starry-eyed for Prai Raya's southern-style cuisine. The signature dish is the yellow curry noodle dish with large chunks of fresh crabmeat served with coconut milk. To ensure freshness, ingredients like crab, vegetables, and shrimp are brought in weekly from Phuket. Dine indoors in a relaxing atmosphere or al fresco in the charming garden that makes you forget you're in a city." - Mimi Grachangnetara

During my 10-day stay in Bangkok, we went there four times. I love southern food! The quality and prices are quite good. I wouldn't say it's expensive, but be careful not to order too much because one menu can feed 2-3 people. Everything was served quickly, and the service was also very good. However, southern food is quite spicy, from pepper and the quality of the products is very fresh.

We ordered pandan chicken and bitter beans with prawns. Great taste! Lovely front yard, interior decor, serve-wares which gave me sort of like a kind of colonial-peranakan vibes. Staff were visibly nervous it seems but warmed up nicely. However, price may be on the higher side for Thai. Still, a quaint place for a cosy meal with friends.

Quiet vintage restaurant serving top notch classic Thai dishes. Food tastes amazing at reasonable prices. You can get most of Bangkok's highlights here: crab omelette, giant river prawns, grilled seafood, etc.

I didn’t expect to find such authentic Southern Thai food in a cozy, Thai-style setting. The dishes turned out to be delicious and flavorful, with prices that are very reasonable for the quality. I also really appreciate the restaurant’s design and the relaxing music that completes the atmosphere.

We had a good time at this southern style Thai restaurant. Located in a sprawling villa with spacious interior and designed in local style, it gives a nice, laidback vibe. It used to feature in Michelin guide with Bib Gourmand recognition. Menu is quite big and comprises of all types of food one could ask for. I have to say that portions are substantially bigger than other similar places we have visited over the years. Taste is also very good. Spiciness is reasonable, probably manageable for the most international customers.
