Beautiful interior. Decent cocktails. Good sashimi.
The lacking was in the service. We went early for dinner in Lisbon (6:30) we were maybe one of three couples there. We were promptly seated in front of a drafty window in what was clearly the hinterlands of the place. We took a pass at evaluating what we wore and trying to determine if we smelled... we settled on the fact that we probably looked like American tourists but it's not like I was wearing a tank top or white tennis shoes or anything. Anyway, we didn't push it. When we pointed out the cold air coming in through the poorly sealed picture window, the guy seating us went to the trouble of actually moving the whole table 10 inches rather than just seating us at a better table.
We ordered sushi, sashimi and a couple of martinis. The place had a lot of staff working and all connected via radio headsets. In fact, I saw the main man (who had originally sat us) look over to where we had been banished, and snap at our waiter on the radio as we were clearly looking to order drinks, then order food, then re-order drinks... none of it was made easy.
They weren't assholes or anything... but they clearly were not trying to woo us back for a second visit, either. Had this been in Los Angeles, had it not been raining, had we had easy alternatives... we might have said screw you, we're out. Instead, we swallowed our pride and the excellent sushi and left, feeling like slightly disrespected tourists.
So... one star for not making us feel warm and fuzzy, like welcomed guests. And five stars for really flawless fish and a nicely mixed martini.
