Save yourselves from Prairie Shores and Golub; I gave 1 star because I couldn’t give 0.
On the 1st day of my lease, I made an elevator reservation and told my leasing agent and the building manager what time to expect me that morning. I get there: the elevator was not reserved and there was nobody around (no maintenance or building manager) to help me. My leasing agent went on vacation (unbeknownst to me) and didn’t let anybody else know that I was moving in that day. Whoever was in the office gave me a key fob that didn’t work. I walked back and forth from the leasing office to 2801 three times because they weren’t answering the phones during working hours, and they refused to fix or even check the key because they were sure I was doing something wrong. The office ladies said they “called maintenance” to my apartment door, but after 2 hours of waiting, still nobody showed up. I had had the movers for 2 extra hours at this point and could only tell them to bring my stuff back to my old apartment as it was clear that I wasn’t getting into my apartment at 2801. I lost $1700 on those movers, I didn’t move in, and nobody from this office was ready nor willing to help me.
I went back to the leasing office when my original leasing agent came back, she scanned my key fob on a little black box next to her desk, and said that she fixed it and it should work now. There was no apology nor even any acknowledgment of what happened. I finally get into the apartment and there are roaches everywhere. How were there roaches when my leasing agent said she did a “walkthrough” and everything “looked good”?? (I have attached videos from that day.) I emailed my leasing agent about this issue, she said an exterminator would be coming - nobody ever came. I had to fix it myself with roach bait from Amazon. (attached the receipt from Amazon purchase.)
But the problems didn’t stop there. My bathtub was always clogged, and the water would take hours to drain. Eventually, water started coming up through the bathroom tiles, leaked into my hallway, and onto the carpet in the outer hallway. I put in a maintenance request and again no one came. Ultimately, I just started taking shorter showers and less often so the water wouldn’t build up as much.
Then, the building had an exterminator come through to every apartment, but he barely looked around for a minute, said everything was good, and then left. And then I got roaches for a second time even though “everything was good”. Which again, I fixed by myself by purchasing roach bait from Amazon (attached another receipt).
And there’s more. People would sneak into the building in the middle of the night and knock on people’s doors claiming to be management or maintenance. Packages would be open or completely stolen from the mail room, and management would offer no help at all to find out who was doing this or stop this from happening. Proof of all of these things (pictures, videos, and detailed stories) was in the community forum on the Prairie Shores app, which has now been disabled by management. Worst of all, none of the buildings had heat in the winter. Nobody from any management team in any building cared to fix this issue, and yet they still billed us all for the $85 utility fee even though WE HAD NO HEAT. This issue made it to the news because of how bad it was. (Added video of the broadcast).
I moved out with 13 days left in my lease (I still planned to pay for those 13 days) but then they wanted to charge me for the 13 days PLUS an entire month’s worth of rent as a “fee” for not giving them “advance notice” of my move-out plans (if somebody doesn’t resign a lease, obviously they are leaving. I’ve never lived anywhere where a company would assume you are staying past the end of your lease) PLUS $175 accusing me of not returning my keys (I did but they lost it). I’ve been getting the run-around from EVERYBODY in their office: not replying to my emails, saying they will call me but never doing so, and just dragging out the entire issue so they can send my bill to collections on the 10th 😑
