There are some meals that are memorable - and, others that are remarkable and stay with you for a lifetime. They are very rare and, very special.
Marseille is a new city to me. On a long April birthday weekend that was blessed with sun, we ate well - surprisingly well. But, at Prémices we were astounded with simplicity, creativity and most importantly tastes that were original and, in some cases, completely new.
I believe it’s Benoit who’s the chef and Léo who is the sommelier and front man and co-owner. Together they make a formidable team that served us 5 dishes (there’s no menu - hurrah!) that wowed all three of us. Even the amuse bûche was wonderful. They didn’t bat an eyelid when told one of the guests was not a meat eater.
In an unassuming resto with less than 30 covers, this small team served their own version of perfection. Bravo! We’ll be back…
PS: if you are a whisky lover, ask Léo for one of their French/Scottish single malts. You won’t be disappointed.
