3 Best Day Trips from Savannah

"Local ingredients meet Southern influences meet French technique at Preserved. Oysters are de rigueur, as are starters like escargots, steak tartare, and a well-price $38 seafood platter. Entrees, typically killer renditions of recognizable classics, take advantage of the regional bounty. A perfectly cooked fish of the day, for instance, sits on a raft of rice from the excellent local grower Congaree and Penn. And those in the know swear by brunch, which features dishes like house-smoked salmon Benedict, roasted oysters in garlic cream, and—of course—biscuits and gravy." - Sam Worley

Really outstanding experience from start to finish. This restaurant is obviously very well managed. Front of house, waitstaff, and kitchen executed everything impeccably! The food was outstanding! Oysters and shrimp were noticeably fresh. Pork chop was cooked to a perfect medium. Desserts were delicious! Could not have had a better experience! Highly recommended!

We understood that reservations were preferred for dinner service (especially for a table of 4), but we took a shot and arrived promptly at 4pm for dinner service. The hostess warmly welcomed us and quickly seated us in the charming outdoor garden. The wine list is fantastic! The Charcuterie board was very unique and delicious-this is not your normal selection of meats and cheeses- a lot of time went into creating the house made selections- we loved the duck prosciutto! (Thank you to the chef!) Order the Roasted East Coast Oysters-they are amazing- our table was fighting over who would get the last one! All our entrees were freshly prepared and service was outstanding. This is now our favorite restaurant in St. Augustine.

We were lucky to grab a table late in the seating for the evening. Situated in a renovated old house, this has to be a highlight of your dining adventure. You have seating options: inside, outside on the broad porch or in a detached courtyard. No bar area to wait for your seating but they will bring you drinks. The menu is flush with locally inspired plates and laden with delicious locally sourced produce and vegetables. My starter of Raw Oysters were delicious and my wife’s Spinach Salad was a great starter. The highlight was the Vegetable Middlins, a delicious mix of local vegetables, mushrooms and an interesting locally sourced rice. Don’t miss it. My Seared Scallops were also on point. The wine list is massive, well and thoughtfully curated and worth your time to consider. They have a good selection of wines by the glass (thank you). All in all a great place to dine with people who care about their craft and want you to have a good time.

This was the best visit to this restaurant. I walked in early without a reservation and was seated in the elegantly decorated courtyard. With the historic home and restaurant within view, I enjoyed a full course meal under a grove of citrus trees. The ambiance is delightful, as there were heaters and an outdoor fire pit, calming, smooth jazz, and excellent table side service. Natalie and her team made me feel very welcomed and appreciated for my visit. The food was phenomenal as well, I ordered the tomato bisque and the duck breast special. This place is hands down one of the best in north Florida.

Barely gets 4 stars. Good points —amazing service. The staff are so welcoming and they wear masks. That made me feel very comfortable. Outdoor dining with ample space. It’s a beautiful place great atmosphere and charm in a quaint neighborhood, plus there’s free parking. The food is a little on the expensive side for the quality. It’s not outstanding but acceptable. The entree I got was saltier than I like, but tasty. Not much sides. It wasn’t enough to fill me up. The butter was great but the bread was below average. Would I come back? Not sure.

The restaurant is so appealing with the Victorian house look and the outside garden seating. We ordered the boulabaise, shrimp and grits, and pork chop. And the arugula salad to start. Excellent food - tasty, and the meat was tender even though the cut was thick. We ended with the apple bread pudding for dessert. A very nice and relaxing evening with good food. What more can I ask for.

First time here and I was blown away! The restaurant looks like a house. It's elegant and very comfortable. Our waiter explained the menu thoroughly and he had a great sense of humor. The food was excellent. Everything from the filet to the dessert was delicious! The portion sizes were perfect as well. Didn't feel stuffed at the end of my meal. I can't wait to go back again!

We absolutely loved our dinner at Preserved. Tucked into a residential neighborhood just outside the “old city” this restaurant is a real treat. When making the reservation we had noted it was our anniversary. They started us with a choice of sparkling wine or a dessert later - we opted for the wine so we could toast to ourselves!! We started with roasted oysters - perfectly cooked so they were warm but not chewy and covered in a perfect balance of Parmesan and garlic. The salads were excellent and the dressings - obviously scratch made - brought out, not drowned out, the delicate flavors. Our mains were a fresh fish and fantastic pork chop. We sat in the outside patio, not on the terrace of the building - so I never even walked in. The patio was laid out very well, the exception we were a little too close to our neighbors (can I tell you all about their daughters upcoming bridal shower - yes, I can!) and I think that is because our table was placed under a umbrella, which would make sense for brunch which they also are known for. Parking is available behind the restaurant. Take a trip off the beaten path. It is well worth it.
