For a blend of history and small-town charm, head north to Goliad. Time your trip for Market Days, held monthly around the courthouse square, where local artisans, farmers, and food vendors fill the streets with genuine South Texas flavor. Just outside town, Presidio La Bahía—an 18th-century Spanish fort—stands as a National Historic Landmark and hosts living-history events and exhibits on Tejano culture. Texas Monthly and the Houston Chronicle both praise Goliad for its well-preserved heritage and welcoming atmosphere, noting that the market and fort are independently managed and deeply tied to the community.

Very deep in historical information. The battle here is what lord to "Cinco de Mayo". Great experience! End of match every year. You should go. Take chairs and like sack lunch to munch and enjoy on the grounds. Free parking.

A lovely stop between Austin and Port Aransas, this historic site is a great teaching moment for those who just finished 7th grade Texas History or anyone interested in our history. Check it out!

Really great tour and information about early Texas history. Video at the beginning helps explain many of the exhibits in the museum.

Although we did not buy a ticket to go inside, this peaked our interest on the way to Port A on Hwy 183. Good historic information around the property and very close to other sites as well. Cute town!

Plenty of interesting history about the revolution war. Lots of artifacts to read about and see.

The chapel is the best part. Worth stopping to take a look and entry is very cheap. Main restrooms are in the back right near the barracks if you have to "go". Parking with a trailer is tricky but there is a monument SSE that can fit one with a short walk to the mission. Great piece of Texas history.

The garrison is wonderfully reconstructed. We found the brief video very informative and prepared us for our visit.

A great site that covers 276 years of history in the area. The 9 flags out front pique your interest, and the staff do a great job laying out why this is the most fought over fort in Texas! Well worth the stop, they do monthly programs throughout the year and every Wednesday during the summer- there is something for everyone!
