The experience I had at Pretty Bird Hot Chicken was one to remember, and for all the best reasons.
I actually don't remember hearing about this new location opening up but I could not be more excited. I was in Lehi, it was lunch time, and I was craving hot chicken. I used my favorite app to find some suggestions, but was even more pleasantly surprised to see that I wouldn't need to drive all the way to Salt Lake City to get good hot chicken.
So I pop over to see that the people were right...there is a Midvale Pretty Bird location now! It is right on the corner by R&R. I was honestly expecting it to be really busy but it was not bad. This meant easy parking and quick ordering. I would imagine that even when they are in a rush, there is still lots of parking.
I walk in and see that they have iPads to the right. They had four iPads on a counter that were ready to take our order. This is how you place your order. Now, I thought this was pretty offputting to begin with. I am not the biggest fan of the robotic world and then I was a little confused why there was 4 or 5 staff members there. I will touch on this topic more later. Anyways, the iPad was easy to navigate and I appreciated that they had pictures to go with the items. I am not sure what system they use but props to them for using a system that is ridiculously easy to understand and navigate through. I debated between the chicken sandwich meal or the tender meal. I have always ordered the chicken sandwich meal when I visit Pretty Bird but I decided I wanted to try something new during this visit. I also needed to get a few extra sauces because I knew one cup was not to going to be enough. Again, I was a bit skeptical of this process in the beginning but it was surprisingly easy to go through the iPad and pick out everything I wanted.
Immediately, when I sat down at the table of my choosing, the girl working brought me my drink cup. She was so nice from the get-go. It wasn't too much longer until my food came out. Everything was hot and fresh, but also seemed like I didn't get more than two blinks in at the table before the food came out. Now, back for what I was going to say earlier...if you think the iPads have replaced the customer service at Pretty Bird, I did too, but you are dead wrong. I haven't had such good customer service in a MINUTE. Not even at 5 star sit down restaurants have had this quick and friendly service. If anything, it seems to me like they did a reorg and decided to put their customer service in other areas than "What do you want to eat?". Seriously, from the moment the door swung open and I entered, to the moment when the door swung open and I exited...everyone was AWESOME! Even as I was leaving, the girl offered to give me extra sauces for the road and everyone said "thanks for coming in" and "have a good day".
The overall atmosphere of the place is cool...they have a pink ceiling and have also ensured they incorporate their blue Pretty Bird color into the building as well. I really loved the decorations and felt they were cute and modern. From the neon "Hot, Hot, Hot" sign, to the cool lighting fixtures, they really went all out with this location. If I would've had a notepad with me, I would've been taking notes. This is one of the cutest restaurants I have seen in a while. I feel like it is a little bit different, compared to their downtown location and their sugarhouse location. The downtown location doesn't even have indoor seating. The sugar house location is big but I am almost 100% sure they did not have the cute, pink ceiling. I would have noticed lol. On top of that, they have a spacious, uncovered patio. The patio had plenty of tables and chairs all over the patio and it seemed to sort of intertwine with the patio at R&R.
As far as the food goes, it was great. It was everything I was dreaming of, and more. I really loved their seasoning that came on the chicken. Although, I think I can upgrade to a hotter level next time. The spice level I got almost tasted sweet. The fries were great but definitely weren't quite *as* good when they got cold. The seasoning was really packed on there, to the point that it fell off, the moment you touched it. I am not sure I liked their pretty bird sauce that much this time and I am not sure why...I think it was a bit too heavy on the mayo. The ranch was good...I've had better but it pairs nicely with the chicken and had a good consistency too it. I also think it's a bit too...Mayo-ey. The prices on the items did seem a bit steep, but I guess it didn't phase me too much because the quality of their food is parallel to the price you pay, in my opinion.
Everything was phenomenal at Pretty Bird Chicken. I am excited to see them migrating more south like a gaggle in September. Even then, I am excited to see them expanding in general. They deserve it! Thanks for such an amazing experience, Pretty Bird! I will definitely be back and will recommend this location to all my best buddies.
