Boston Restaurant Openings, December 2022 - Eater Boston

"Prik Nam Pla, named after the ubiquitous Thai condiment, has settled into the former home of Davis Square Thai restaurant Kor Tor Mor. The former owner of Kor Tor Mor has tapped his sister, Rachanee Daranuwat (who founded Wild Ginger Thai Cuisine in Norwell), to bring a new Thai experience to the space — one more focused on un-Americanized versions of Thai dishes." - Erika Adams

It was a rainy Saturday morning, desperate for carbs and sustenance. We sat down in the best Thai restaurant in all of Greater Boston. And honestly, I'm fr fr, this place truly NEVER misses. It is so damn good. Best little Thai cafe in town. Makes my day, my week, my month even. Always gotta come here when we're in town.

Originally only got some mango sticky rice for take out but when I went in, the restaurant smelled so good. I ended up getting the red curry as well and it was perfectly spicy and sweet. One of the best curries I have ever had and good serving size with decent amount of meat. Will be coming back for more soon!

Updated April 23, 2025 lunch specials are still good and only a little more money. The veggie dumplings are noticeably smaller but I understand costs are soaring for ingredients so sympathize. Updated photos for the same dishes below are now served in trays vs in bowls a year ago. The long counter is gone and have been replaced by tables which is better. I still recommend this place. Great food and service. Lovely service and mostly authentic Thai cuisine. The lunch specials are a great deal at $12.95 for entree and appetizer. We had red curry with chicken and masaman curry. Both had great heat and spices. The most delicious part of the meal was the appetizer. We skipped the gyoza option (not Thai) and had what they called vegetable dumpling. The server explained it rarely is offered in a restaurant but is Thai. I forget the Thai name despite asking her twice what it was. I wanted to research it ao I could learn how to make it. It’s not really a dumpling but more like a triangular crispy puff of green veg and something soft. Terrible description but you will need to order it and see for yourself. Great place.

Hands down the best Thai restaurant in the city. Every dish I’ve tried here is bursting with layers of flavor. You can truly taste the love and care that goes into the food. After chatting with the host, I learned that everything is made from scratch in-house, including all the curry pastes, and it absolutely shows in the depth of flavor. It’s a small, family-run spot, and the whole team is always so kind, attentive, and genuinely happy to serve. I’ve ordered from them a handful of times now, and it’s officially in my weekly rotation. Their lunch specials are generous and super filling — perfect for a midday pick-me-up. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favor and give them a try. You’ll be hooked after the first bite.

Google
Excellent Thai Food We had the Steamed Shumai (4pc) which were decently sized and tasty Panang Curry was very tasty, came with rice Khao Soi was also excellent, the crispy noodles were good, the chicken was very well cooked, and the seasoning was perfect Mango Sticky Rice was pretty good They also have lunch specials that come with 2 gyoza or crab rangoons and are about 12 dollars. Only con is the restaurant itself is small so there is not a lot of seating. The waitress was attentive and kept our water full Will definitely be coming here again

Google
Quite glad I found this Thai place. As an Asian, I’m a sucker for good authentic Thai food. Had the Pad Thai and it was awesome. Not too sweet, and the shrimp that came with it was nice and juicy. I also very thankfully ordered a side of fried pork, which was deep fried fresh - this is a def must try. Only bummer was that it doesn’t come with any dipping sauce. The lady at the counter mentioned that I ought to try the curry noodles next time, and I’d sure be back with some friends to try it out.

Google
This spot gets a 10 out of 10 for me, small but mighty. Their khao soi is some of the best in the area and the scallion pancakes are so tasty and taste fresh.

Google
Prik Nam Pla in Davis Square has consistently impressed me with its tasty offerings. Everything I've tried has been delicious, but the standout dish is undoubtedly the garlic udon noodle – it's truly to die for. The flavors are rich and satisfying, showcasing the culinary expertise of the chefs. If you're seeking a place with consistently tasty food, Prik Nam Pla should be at the top of your list.

Yelp
I love my thai food, and Prik Nam Pla is one of my favorite thai spots for their flavor variety, spice, and presentation Prik Nam Pla recently just opened in Somerville, MA right next to Davis Square so this is definitely a spot to try if you're looking for a new thai food spot in Boston‼ They recently expanded their menu and we got to try their ginger rice with deep fried pork. When I tell you this ginger rice is the best I've ever had you really just need to try it for yourself! I'm definitely going back to try their ginger rice dish with chicken next time

Yelp
Tiny, charming, little shop in the heart of Davis square. We came in on a Friday evening without having to wait. It was quite cold outside at the time and space is limited and we naively took the big table by the door. Which doesn't close all the way on its own. Oof. The lady there was kind enough to close it shut when folks came in and out but there was only one of her to do everything. We ordered golden bags, a pork belly over rice dish and a crispy chicken pad Thai. The taste was very on point for each of them, the golden bags were fried with fresh oil, you could tell, and a small bite carries a ton of flavor. The pork over rice was to die for. The flavors in this were some of the best Thai I've ever had. Bit of tangy, lots of basil, and plenty of kick, I'll be dreaming of this one for awhile. The chicken pad Thai was great, but nothing too outstanding. This place is at most a 4, I've had better Thai food nearby (Rod Dee anyone?) for half the price. Don't get me wrong this place is delicious, but not 20$/dish delicious. tldr; small cute place that has overpriced but delicious Thai food

Yelp
I had seen a video of someone eating Khao Soi in Thailand. The next day I walked by this place and the owner handed me a menu. Turns out this soup with soft and crispy noodles is their speciality and it was beyond delicious. Will definitely be back and everyone was friendly and service was great as well.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick lunch. Sat at a sunny window table. The kapow was spicy and flavorful, crispy lightly cooked vegetables. Enough for leftovers the next day. Coconut juice with slices of young coconut meat. Sweet & refreshing on a hot summer day. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This was my first time at Prik Nam Pla. The nearby shops shuffled quite a bit during the pandemic but I'm glad to see there's another little Thai place here after Kor Tor Mor closed. I stopped in for a quick lunch. It's a cute place with a few small tables and one that will fit a party of four -- but don't come with a crowd. Service is quick and friendly. I got one of the $13 lunch specials, tofu red curry with gyoza (knowingly not gluten free). It came in a industrial lunch platter that was a nice presentation even if the portions were smaller. The curry had a decent amount of tofu and some other veggies, although I wish there was more. It was flavorful and spicy for someone who can tolerate a mild amount but who doesn't eat a lot of spice (for comparison it seems hotter than Cha Yen in Watertown, another more authentic Thai place). The gyoza was deep fried and fine. I would come again to try something else if u needed a quick hot lunch in Davis. But if you want to be full, get a full sized portion.

Yelp
A new to me Thai food shop in Davis Square. Since I don't live nearby I decided to give them a try via delivery. I ordered the Khao Moo Tod which is ginger rice with crispy pork and comes with a sweet and sour sauce. Everything came fresh and the crispy pork was delicious. Definitely plan on trying out more of their dishes in the future.

Yelp
Little Thai joint at the edge of Davis Square towards the Tufts side, in the space previously occupied by Kor Tor Mor. A couple tables and a counter with stools. Mostly takeout but they do table service, with very minimal service (you'll need to ask for anything you need; they won't ask). Spicy Wings: Crunchy, moist but not fully juicy, just spicy enough, and more sweet than spicy. Temperature-wise, the hottest wings I've ever had: even after a few minutes of photo taking and taking the time to eat all six wings singlehandedly, still piping hot and painful to hold. Nice balance of flavors, though mostly sweet chili. Based on flavor and texture, a solid effort. Chicken Kapow: My barometer dish for Thai food cleared the hurdles flavorwise, with a good blend of dark flavors (oyster sauce and such), herbal flavors (basil), heat (chiles), and accompanying vegetables (string bean). Volumewise, a little light, with most of the bowl being the white rice. Not a huge deal, but noticeable. Pad Thai: My wife got this with tofu. Wet and sweet. If you like your Pad Thai wet and sweet, this is for you. If not, it's not. Definitely enough promise to go back, looking to try the Khao Soi, which they bill as their signature item. Glad to have this place around, especially with DakZen changing up their service model. Hoping to up this to 4 stars on the next visit.

Yelp
This tiny Thai spot in Davis offers dine-in for groups of 1-4 (at the very most) and runs a very busy takeout counter. It's a solid option for lunch or dinner if you're in the area. Service is fast and polite and prices are similar for Cambridge/Boston. The lunch special (Tue-Friday from 1130am-3pm) is a particularly good deal, offering a choice of 8 different entrees with a side (gyoza, chive cake, or crab rangoon), for $13. I found it pretty filling for one person and took home part of my entree. We've sampled a few of their dishes, and particularly like the "veggie dumpling" appetizer (it's a fried chive cake with a mochi-like consistency, absolutely delicious), the kapow (quite spicy, but so flavorful), and the pad thai (standard American styled pad thai). Would return to try more items.

Yelp
Such a cute ambiance despite having limited seating - it set a delightful tone. Overall, the food was pretty good, and the service was quick and efficient. The Thai tea leaned towards the sweeter side. The Golden Bag featured a crispy egg sheet that was enjoyable. Otherwise, this appetizer wasn't exciting. The Khao Soi Chicken had a creamy consistency, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The soup base had a subtle kick, which I appreciated. The Khao Soi Nua was decent. It resembled typical Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, so I'm not entirely sure if that's what was to be expected. My favorite dish was the Drunken Noodles with Shrimp. It had a satisfying level of spiciness. The shrimp were large and flavorful.

Yelp
First time ordering herez The food was very disappointing. The pad see ew was so fishy I couldn't eat it. The pad Thai was too saucy. The Khoa soi Kai Tod was also not bery good. The chicken wasn't crispy and the curry did not go well with the noodles. It was ready pretty quick for pick up.

Yelp
Prik Nam Pla is a relatively new addition to Davis. I've been excited to try it with the different types of food they offer. We started with veggie dumplings which is one of my favorite Thai street food. These do not disappoint! Highly recommend trying them out. We also tried the golden bag, which I've never had before. I originally did not know how to eat them - if you open them or what? It turns out you just eat the whole thing, and it was delicious! Crispy on the outside, delicious on the inside. For my entree, I tried the Khao Na Kai which is essentially a chicken bown topped with gravy. It is a savory comfort meal, and an old fashioned Thai-Chinese dish that is popular in Bangkok. Definitely suits a day where you just want to unwind, relax, and eat a meal that feels home-made.

Yelp
Prik Nam Pla has easily been my go-to Thai place since moving to Boston since it's consistently delicious every time I go! I especially love the Khao Soi, which is unbelievably flavorful -- it's the perfect comfort food. All of the other food is great too, from the Drunken Noodles to the Veggie Dumplings. Plus, the food is always ready so quickly! If you're in the Somerville area, definitely give this place a try!
google avatar

Anarie S.

Yelp
Great spot for take out! It's a very small space that can probably only fit a couple people in front of the window so would not go here with a big group for dine in. I would recommend their lunch specials. I ordered a Pad Thai with Cheese Wonton.

Yelp
I went to Prik Nam Pla next to Davis in Somerville on 24 College Ave, Somerville, MA 02144 Prik Nam Pla is an essential table condiment in a Thai eatery. In many thaidishes they often pour a small amount over dishes such as fried rice, noodles, or curry to enhance the flavor of the dish. And boy oh boy did it really enhance the flavors of the dishes we had! For drinks we had a classic thai iced tea which was the perfect balance of sweet and refreshing. For appetizers we had the pork gyoza, shrimp tempura and golden bag. I personally never had a golden bag before! These were filled with chicken, sweet corn, and scallion. They became my personal favorite of the three. For entrees we had the khao soi kai (chicken) which was served with crispy yellow noodles, red onion, cabbage, scallions and lime. We also had kapow shrimp with vegetables Finally, for dessert we had mango sticky rice. The mango was fresh and blended well with the sweet sticky rice. I recommend ordering takeout here if you are in the mood for thai food and live in the Somerville, Medford, Arlington, or Cambridge area! Food: 8/10 Affordability: 8/10

Yelp
Prik Nam Pla is a welcome and new addition to the already great lineup in Davis Square. While it is not without competition, the menu is slightly different and feels more like a takeout-style restaurant than a sit and eat due to the limited space (there are tables and seats should you want to dine in). The food is very well done, not greasy or laden with oil as some Thai restaurants can be. It is also VERY reasonably priced. We got 2 entrees, an appetizer, and with tax and tip it was in the low-to-mid $40s. The workers were pleasant and the food was on time for pickup, which has not always been the case in recent takeout memories... so they seem to have everything figured out and won't leave you waiting for your order for too long. I think trying some of the new/different dishes will be interesting as they have different menu items than the other Thai restaurants in the area. They are a pleasant addition to an already great lineup in Davis Square. They also bring a different vibe and unique options at really reasonable prices and know how to keep the food tasty, well-seasoned (and spicy!), and do it all with a smile on their face. Highly recommend if you like Thai or just want a good, flavorful meal without breaking the bank.

Yelp
Prik Nam Pla used to be Kor Tor Mor which I was a fan of. They've rebranded and updated their menu and I'm excited they've reopened! The interior is small but looks great. I ordered the chicken kapow and it was delicious!! Pretty good medium spice and super flavorful. I also ordered the gyoza which are fried and they were pretty tasty. The staff was incredibly polite and my take out order was ready super fast! I'll definitely be trying more off the menu but if it's the same people behind Kor Tor Mor, I know it'll be delicious Thai food! My only knock is that they are a little pricier but I think they are worth it!

Yelp
Never had a sweet tom kha kai........ My fav soup so really, truly disappointed. Could not eat at all and it wasn't for a lack of trying. Green curry is alright, but do not order with tofu. Basil fried rice: nothing to complain about. Two stars for this.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
Ordered delivery and never disappoint. This place is a bomb! Just look at the photos, they're as amazing as they look. The beef stew is tender and rich, curry puff is crispy on the outer and soft inside. Khao soi Kai is the highlight, the broth is heaven like and might be the best I ever tasted around the area. The egg noodle is crispy and the ingredients is just the right amount for a quick lunch

Yelp
I tried Khao Soi in many places. I can say Khao Soi at Prik Nam Pla is one of the very exceptional one. Khao Soi at Prik Nam Pla has their secret is a chef-secret. The Khao Soi came in chicken and Prik Nam Pla has many menus to try

Yelp
The best.........authentic Thai food in Boston! Good Ambience. Great service.......

Yelp
Thai food in the heart of Davis square. Authentic Thai food especially coming from someone of Thai descent. Their khao soi is highly recommended and would definitely come here again. Staff is friendly and accommodating with dietary concerns. Probably my favorite place in Somerville!
google avatar

Ina G.

Yelp
Small place centered on takeout. That is fine, except the prices left me hoping for silverware and ambience if dining in. I was surprised when my $18 soup was served in a plastic container, sans chopsticks, with plastic cutlery. It wasn't any kind of biodegradable eco-tainer either- just a regular plastic 6. Given that there already is a competing neighborhood Thai spot that's got its takeout system working like a well-oiled machine, I couldn't justify the packaging waste relative to price and taste here. The khao soi was missing a sweet note of any kind. But since they don't have the customary set of spices/condiments at the table, I couldn't adjust the flavors.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
The place is cute! We overall thought all the dishes were really well made and super tasty. Friendly staff too :) Just be mindful of the size of the place as it is bar seating and an extra seat of 4. But otherwise, I can see us getting take-out from this place again soon.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Disappointing in the extreme. Ordered the beef stew rice dish. There were maybe 5 small pieces of beef, mixed in with many mystery blobs of fat (see pics). Plenty of rice though. Scallion pankakes were fried batter only.
google avatar

Janet K.

Yelp
One of the best pad Thai and pad see eww we had in awhile, we got the lunch special with chicken and a side of crab rangoons. Reasonably priced, good flavor texture and portions. It's a little small place but clean and the servicer was attentive. The Thai iced tea and coconut nice is yummy too, not watered down, always a plus. Will definitely come back, thank you for the yummy food

RM J.

Yelp
Delicious Thai food Had the masssaman curry which was great. Will definitely return to try other dishes.
google avatar

Divya J.

Yelp
Ordered from Prik Nam Pla on GrubHub and it was delicious. I got the pad see you and Tom yum soup and they were both delicious. I do wish there were spice options, but the chicken was tender and fresh and flavorful. Highly recommend this place.

Donna Q.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant to purchase $75.00 in gift certificates. They Do Not have gift certificates. How ridiculous, they lose business.
google avatar

Rob K.

Yelp
Got the Crab Rangoon and Green Curry with Tofu, both were very good, portions were perfect, and service / time to pick up were great.

Jason M.

Yelp
The signature Khao Soi curry was fantastic. The Panang curry was disappointing. I'd recommend the regular Kapow over the fried-rice version. The golden bags were good, though the string they use to tie them up seems tougher than I've had at other restaurants.

Danielle I.

Yelp
The food is worth it- fair prices and fantastic food. I ordered takeout: so I can not attest to the restaurant or ambience etc. I can only attest to the Tom Yum Soup as well as the Khao SoiMoo Tod and my safety net: drunken noodles. Tom yum was massive because I ordered the noodle bowl version and of course drunken noods were delish, as always a solid bet. But who would have suspected the star would be the Khao Soi Moo Tod? I have never tried it at any other Thai restaurant- only tried it based on a rec from Yelp... It reminded me of More like a curry consistency and I honestly wished I ordered more broth- it comes packaged separately. Because you pour it over Crispy noodles on top of a bed of golden noodles- lovely consistency of pad see ew noodles just skinnier. The broth slowly soaks Into both noodles and you need morrre! Crispy pork was crispy on the outside and still juicy and flavorful- not dry- not over cooked: The scallions, lime, red onions, and idk everything else in that broth just creates a flavor explosion- slightly spicy but not more than most Thai foods. You don't order Thai food when sticking to a bland diet. All food was hot. Solid portions of dishes and all veggies tasted fresh. Call me Arnold because I'll be back.
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
Just discovered this small Thai restaurant. The jasmine rice, scallion pancakes were outstanding. The dumpling soup was fantastic, as opposed to the coconut soup which was too sweet. No need to get shumai when the golden bag has similar ingredients inside. However the golden bag has a crispy outside that is fully edible even though it looks like a bad with string. Combined with the sauce it's amazing. This is a little gem that I hope gets noticed amongst all the other eateries.

Yelp
A new thai restaurant in the area, taking the place of Kor Tor Mor. The interior is very cute and modern, arguably more aesthetically pleasing than Dakzen and Sugar & Spice. I ordered their Thai Tea ($5) and Khao Soi ($18). Khao Soi is really flavorful. The chicken is really soft and the curry is more flavorful than Dakzens (didn't try Sugar and Spice's). The only negative feedback would be the onions were raw, which is something I personally don't like but I don't know if that's a usual thing. The Thai tea is better than Sugar & Spice's basically syrup, but still a bit too sweet for me. The downside of this is the price. I think a Khao Soi is far cheaper in Dakzen (8.95) but they still have around the same portion size. I feel like this is better, but not enough to justify the 2x price tag. There are some dishes here that Dakzen doesn't have though, and I would love to come back and try. All in all, great food, fast and friendly service, but way more expensive than its closest competitor, Dakzen.

MeiW C.

Yelp
Ordered Tom yum soup, beef noodle soup, Kapow rice plate, and padseeyou for dining in. Love the Kapow chicken rice is very hot & tasty. This is place is clean and cozy, good for small party to dine in. While Padseeyou is a little on the sweeter side but it is still very good.

Hayley M.

Yelp
Great place! Delicious, affordable and amazing service. Made pad Thai for my friend even though it wasn't on the menu yet. First batch was fantastic! Drunken noodles were also perfect (and actually spicy!)

Noah K.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Thai food in general, but I was blown away by how good this place is. The khao soi kai was truly incredible -- one of the best meals I've had in a long time, Thai or otherwise. I'll be back regularl.

Shreya B.

Yelp
Their tofu triangles were not what I expected (in a good way)! The drunken noodles were also the perfect level of spicy and flavor

Judi B.

Yelp
The service and food here is excellent! Some dishes are very spicy but not noted on the menu, so ask before ordering if that's an issue for you. The space is very nice, but small, so more suited for take-out, but we ate inside and enjoyed it. They knew it was my husband's birthday and surprised him with a treat at the end!
