I've had the pleasure of dining at Prime 120 in Downtown Woodstock on two occasions, both times enjoying the charming ambiance of the outdoor patio. With cool fans in the summer and an army of heaters in the winter, the setting is both inviting and comfortable.
The menu offers a tantalizing array of choices. On both visits, I started with the Beef Tartare, a dish that consistently showcased the restaurant's prowess in handling raw beef. On my first visit, I also sampled the Crispy Pork Belly, which met my high expectations for this dish. The Smoked Trout Toast is a delightful surprise, adorned with thin slices of red radish and fresh okra, whimsically resembling tiny green Michelin stars.
For my entrée, I indulged in the A-5 Kobe New York Strip from Hokkaido, Japan, paired with the Chef's recommended Red Wine Bordelaise. The Bordelaise, with its gently sweet and slightly tart profile, complemented the luxurious beef perfectly.
Being an Atlanta native, I couldn't resist the Chicken and Dumplings, a dish that evoked fond memories of my grandmother's kitchen. The chicken was succulent and briny, hard to stop eating even when full. However, the "dumplings" turned out to be a sparse sprinkling of Ricotta Gnocchi, a reinterpretation I found less satisfying. I likely wouldn't try this dish again in its current form.
Previously, I sampled the Elk Chop, a dish that underscored the need for more wild game in our diets. Beyond being wild and lean, it offered a rich and gamey flavor explosion that I would eagerly try again.
The service is friendly and helpful, with staff always smiling and pleasant. Prime 120 stands out as a class act and, in my opinion, the best dining experience in Woodstock.
