"Beef is big in Iowa, and steakhouses pepper the metro. For one of the most modern takes on the meat-and-seafood theme, head west to executive chef Dominic Iannarelli’s new hot spot. Nearly everything on the menu — including the stellar salads and vegetable sides — includes at least one element cooked over the 15-foot wood-fire hearth. Come for snacks, like a crab cake or roasted bone marrow with brisket jam, or splurge with something from the reserve menu, which showcases surprises like A5 Kobe strip loin." - Karla Walsh

Went to visit my brother Dan (who provides amazing service to ANYONE, most knowledgeable person of food and drinks and has amazing taste). I got the dorito mac n cheese which was sooo good and then he brought out the sorbet made fresh from fresh fruit they get in each week, it was raspberry, strawberry and peach flavored and was TO DIE FOR. Honestly my favorite thing from tonight and my 2yo daughter devoured it! I also got to try their oatmeal cream pie dessert which was so warm and gooey and tasted like brown sugar which melted in your mouth and was topped with vanilla ice cream and caramel, HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Their menu is definitely a must try if you love steak and seafood, and their wine menu/beverage list is nice and long if you are a connoisseur in reds, whites and bubbly's. He even showed me a salad they offer that has a warm gooey cheese in the middle which was paired with their peaches tonight, but the fresh fruit changes each week! So even if you're wanting a salad, they have something delicious for you to try that is bound to be made fresh and be flavorful! If you ever choose to stop in, you will be greeted with friendly smiles and warm welcomes from the staff who offer very prompt service and the environment is incredibly fancy yet very inviting even if you are wanting something casual. They have a huge bar with plenty of seating and tvs available for your viewing and incredibly nice bartenders! Feel free to say Hi and ask for Dan who works the bar area with his fellow coworkers who are just as amazing as he is, and I promise you, you will have an incredibly fun and enjoyable experience filled with delicious drinks and food and great conversation all day/night long 😊 Definitely will be back for more and it is kid friendly (they dont have a kids menu, but they do a little magic to make things work and make sure everyone is well cared for WHICH I HIGHLY APPRECIATE AS A SINGLE MOM who was nervous on how she would do in a fancy restaurant) They staff loved her and she loved them!

Wonderful first experience here-definitely worth checking out! From booking to walking out at end of meal the staff was superb. Very welcoming and warm atmosphere. Food was delish. Everything cooked and seasoned perfectly. Waiter was on top of it the entire dining experience. Knew menu and offered the bar to make anything we wanted off menu. Will definitely be back!

P&P is a fine dining experience. So manu ways to indulge. Land, sea, beast and vegetables...all were delicious. Any dish with a sauce was "heavily sauced" so be prepared if you prefer just a hint of that type of extra flavor. The wine list is very high end, including areserve list, but limited options between $125-200. Paul was our server for the evening and he could not have been more professional or knowledgeable.

We went for the first time for our Christmas dinner and it was a great experience. The service was phenomenal with a lot of a great pointers and expertise on the menu. The bison short ribs were incredible and the steak raclette was perfectly cooked. The highlight however were probably the sides. The truffle risotto was phenomenal and this was probably one of the best Mac and cheese sides I’ve had. We’ll definitely be back to try more.

Buckle up...our dining experience was amazing. First off, I made reservations for our dining experience for the occasion of an anniversary. Our table was ready with ❤️ decorations in the center and personalized menus, wishing us a Happy Anniversary with the name printed. 😊 👍🥳🎉💪 Our apps of focaccia bread 🍞 and bacon (pork belly) were amazing. We also received an order of Beet & Burrata. It was an amazing, fresh, and wonderful presentation. For entrees, we received a Black Label Burger 🍔, 8oz Filet Mignon, and P&P Surf & Turf. The burger was plenty and cooked to perfection. The Filet had an amazing sear, seasoned perfectly 👌 and cooked to perfection. Next time, I would get the 'Butter Candle' . The Surf&Turf was awesome. Shrimp 🍤 was huge, and medallions were perfect. The garlic butter was creamy and partnered well. The family style sides we got were Mac&Cheese and Truffle fries. These were good. We can not wait to return.

My wife and I arrived at 7:00pm to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We walked through the front doors about 4 min late, and we were both greeted with a very warm welcome, even by first name basis. Additionally, they had asked if there was a birthday we were celebrating, and I had not told my wife that I had informed the restaurant of her birthday. Once we arrived at the table, there was a very well suited display of appropriate and not over the top amount of confetti and the menu’s addressed our occasion with my wife’s name at the top. This was both of our first time at Prime & Providence, and you can only compare this restaurant with the best in the United States. Even Gordon Ramsey’s locations in Vegas may not compare to the level of attention to detail that was presented last night. The waitress was spot on with recommendations, and table visits. At a restaurant of this caliber, you shouldn’t look at money as a deciding factor when you dine, because that stress prevents you from accepting the reality of your environment. This restaurant throws a successful hail-mary and wins the Super Bowl of elegant restaurants in Iowa, and every restaurant we’ve been to yet. Sorry Django, but Prime & Providence is a heaven level location for perfect dining experiences.

This is a beautiful high end restaurant with wonderful staff. The food was mostly delicious. There was only one side dish( sweet potatoes)that was dry and not so great. Otherwise, I would have rated it a 5.

I beg your pardon in advance for not having the best food photos, but everything looked so appealing, and my camera isnt the best. My wife and I visited for the first time last week, and Prime and Providence certainly did not disappoint. We tried the Crispy Szechuan Shrimp, the Dorito Mac & Cheese, and the Black Label (Filet Mignon) Burger. It turns out we loved all three items, but I preferred the Dorito Mac & Cheese above all. Dan was highly professional and top notch at introducing us to the menu. With unequaled skill, he guided us through the menu and never errored as he advised us on all that P&P has to offer. I was most curious about the Jim's Oatmeal Pie. We were already stuffed, but when Dan singled this dessert out and recommended it above all others, he read my mind. Both of us thought it was delicious. The cocktails were amazing, and the food was perfect. I left more stuffed than I have been in years. Service was top-notch. We will return as soon as we have the opportunity.

Yelp
Primeand Providence WOW After our experience with another pricier steak restaurant last year I was definitely nervous to spend a large amount of money only to be disappointed again but I was ready to try something different and it was an early brat dinner so we bit the bullet! Prime and Providence knows what they're doing without a doubt ‍ Here's what we got! Caesar Salad (forgot to take a pic of the presentation) 9/10 (did not care for the anchovies that I thought was bacon) but the salad itself was perfect: just enough dressing & crispy salad. The dressing did have a little sweetness to it but i liked it! Definitely a shareable salad! Focaccia Bread 10/10 Moist, subtle but delicious savory taste! Came with the garlicky butter that I put an unhealthy amount of butter on. Chefs kiss! Ribeye & Filet 10/10 Wow. Talk about melt.in.your.mouth! Perfectly seasoned and cooked a PERFECT medium rare. We added the "candle stick butter". Felt like it was a birthday cake but butter Loved drowning my steak in that butter, could feel my arteries tingle with the amount of butter I consumed lol. Sides: Potatoes Au Gratin & Mac n Cheese Potatoes 9/10 only reason I gave it a 9 is cause it does require salt and pepper but the cream sauce was so delicious with it and potatoes were fork tender perfect! Mac n Cheese 10/10 perfection. No seasoning required it was that good. Noodles a perfect al dente. And to the breadcrumb haters... don't even cause it was the best addition! & you know we had to get dessert! Creme Brûlée 8/10! I personally like my crème brûlée warm and most places don't but the flavor was great and a "light & refreshing" end to our meals! Tips: don't order the bottle water cause they charge $10 it's not free & the pop is not free refills. Other than that I have zero complaints and when I'm looking for a place out for a special occasion, that will be guaranteed to be delicious, it will without a doubt be this place!

Yelp
Atmosphere: This restaurant is a vibe, from the music selection to the open and inviting dining area. Food: I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the salmon wonton tacos; despite the salmon being raw, it was delicious. The meatballs and octopus, however, were slightly overcooked. The oysters were good. Service: The service at the restaurant was okay. The staff was attentive enough, though there were moments when we had to wait longer than expected. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try more items from the menu. There are several dishes that caught my eye, and I can't wait to see what else the restaurant has to offer.

Yelp
Prime and Providence brings unique culinary experiences to the metro. They bring a one-of-a-kind Demant grill and roaster to their chic-modern restaurant. Chef Iannerelli brings some new twists to old favorites but also executes a standard filet to a high level. The lounge side has its own unique menu with a little bit lighter fare. I hear the black label burger is unreal. The presented drink menu is on the pricier side, but you can still order your go-to drink for a reasonable cost. If price is of no object to you, the reserve menu presents some of the finest choices available in Iowa. Rare cuts such as Kobe strip loin and Shimane ribeye top the list. We started with the Triple Smoked Bacon and Chargrilled Octopus. The bacon is a 1" slab of pork belly covered in red pepper marmalade on a bed of mustard grits. I was nervous about the mustard grits because I'm not particularly fond of either. But wow, after the pork belly was consumed the table cleaned the plate of the jam and grits. The octopus had a buttery soft chew and a wonderful smoky flavor. For the fish course, we chose a dozen chargrilled oysters 6 crab stuffed and 6 garlic butter and shrimp cocktail. The oysters were phenomenal. For the people at the table that had their first ever oyster, I expect they'll be disappointed when they try them elsewhere. The shrimp cocktail nearly rivals that of St. Elmo's (if you know, you know). I will go back for another dozen when I don't have to share (and maybe get 6 of those massive shrimp too). This sample of their seafood tempted me to order the shellfish tower but I'm saving that for the next time I go. For our mains, I ordered the 12 ounce filet au poivre. I chose this simple dish so that I could get a good read on how they stack up against the many other fine steakhouses in the area. I was not disappointed. The steak was cooked to an exact medium well. The crust was still crackling when it arrived. My wife ordered the bison short rib. She described it as intensely flavorful. For sides, we ordered the forest mushrooms, lasagnatolo, and brussel sprouts. The mushrooms paired perfectly with our steaks. I dumped a spoonful into my brown gravy. The brussels sprouts were a bit too al dente for me. I gave feedback that they should be split rather than left whole. But let me tell you, that lasagnatolo could be a meal in itself. I only had one piece, but it was filling. For dessert, we ordered the crème brûlée and raspberry sorbet. We also each ended with a cocktail. All in all you will have a wonderful experience that warrants the price point.

Yelp
amazing food and awesome service. they brought stuff for us to try to see if we liked it or not and answered questions promptly with great suggestions.

Yelp
Great service from Valeria! Food was excellent. We started with oysters Rockefeller; 6 of east and 6 of west coast oysters. To my surprise, our favorites were the west coasters! The coal fired flavor added an extra flair. Next were 2 salads, the wedge and Caesar. I only had the wedge because I am celiac. The blue cheese was top notch. The dressing perfect, not overpowering. Enough blue cheese favor less than twang. If that went enough we ordered the seafood tower. That was good but not my favorite. My husband ordered the bison short ribs while my daughters shared a filet. Both were cooked to perfection. Our sides were the rainbow carrots and the risotto. Finally, the espresso crème brûlée. That was the cherry on top of a great meal and experience.

Yelp
Prime and Providence for Thursday dinner. Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 3.5/5 Price: 4/5 Lobstercargot: plated like a traditional escargot but it's tiny lobster chunks. Delicious in flavor, not sure it's worth $26 but this was probably the best dish, IMO. Caprese Salad: if the Lobstercargot wasn't at the top of the list, then it would be their Caprese salad. I would love to see more caprese salads made like this one. Yummmm! The tomatoes were ever so slightly mealy, but the basil and mozzarella were spot on. Overall, it was delicious and we loved it. House Chop Salad: I love a good chop salad, but I wasn't a fan of this one. The flavors didn't jive, and it was not a chop salad we enjoyed at all. The dressing, I think, was meant to be a vinaigrette but it was kinda creamy, kinda soggy, and we weren't sure what was all in the salad. What the menu said vs. what we got didn't really match. Tuna Del Mar: fantastic! Medium rare tuna steak with mushrooms, it was fire and we loved this entree. The sriracha sauce is just enough heat and flavor, to complement this dish. Roasted Seafood Tower: I waffled between this one and the Hearth Shellfish Mixed Grill and, in hindsight, I wish I would've gotten the Mixed Grill. The tower was disappointing. I asked for some clarified butter but otherwise, the seafood tower had no sauce and minimal flavor. Maybe it's me, but I love flavors and sauces and found this one so bland. Also, the tower comes with 4 seafoods: king crab leg, 3 half lobster tails, 3 colossal shrimp and 3 sea scallops. The scallops and 1 of 3 lobster tail halves were undercooked (2 were fine, 1 undercooked). The colossal shrimp and the half king crableg were perfectly cooked. I'm glad I asked for the butter, but found this whole tower bland and tasted like a burnt grill. Oysters: might I recommend an oyster flight? I wanted them all, and ended up with none. Sad, I know. But I didn't want 6 of any of them, I wanted 1-2 of all of them! May go back to try just the oysters. Broccolini: what a disappointment. It's sweet, I don't do (most versions of) sweet broccoli. We each ate one bite, I spit mine out and we left the rest. It wasn't good...actually it's terrible. Perhaps I'm a savory eater but the miso whatever brown blob was on top is not complementary of this vegetable. Flowers Pinot Noir bottle: good choice, we liked it. We plan to go back and try more items, but we know what we won't be trying again! For a $350 meal in WDM for 2 people, I do expect a little more quality than what we got. Service was fantastic, food runners were spot on, it's unfortunate that some of the dishes were subpar. -- at Prime and Providence.

Yelp
The place was interesting. It was not crowded when we arrived around 6pm and it wasn't crowded when we left at 7:30pm. We were in a room all by ourselves adjacent to the bar. It wax odd actually. When I asked if they were busy they said, yes just later reservations. Not sure how much later since we didn't leave until 7:30 and no one had joined us in the room. The other strange thing was the music was playing quite loud. Abnormally loud actually. I guess it struck me as odd because the song that was playing was Big Pimpin'. Personally don't hate the music but odd for an upscale restaurant. The server was knowledgeable and explained the menu to us. That was nice. The wine menu was extensive. We heard good things about a few menu items so we tried them. The Ceasar Salad had an extremely fun presentation. The Lobster Cargot was tasty but I think I still prefer escargot. The two side dishes we had were probably the best part of the meal 50/50 mashed potatoes and the lasagnatolo. Our main dishes were unimpressive and actually mine was far from delicious. Not sure I will be rushing back as there are so many places to try. Overall my expectations were not met based on all the hype...

Yelp
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Des Moines is sorely lacking in high end restaurants, so I am glad that P&P is here. Yes, it is pricey for the average person - But those of us that can afford higher end food need places like this to enjoy.

Yelp
After several visits, I've determined that this place ALWAYS delivers amazing food and drinks. Don't forget to grab a taste of their Peerless barrel pick

Yelp
We started with a Regulator and an Intercontinental OF. Both were GOOD! Ordered a half dozen oysters on the half shell, and a Lobstercargot. While the oysters were good, the Lobstercargot won the appetizers. The oysters included (in order from ok to good): a misty points points from Smith Island, VA, a 1871 fro Watts Bay, VA, a Peachtree from the Wicomico River, VA, a Triple Bogey from Moback Bay, VA, and a Royal Miyagi and Fanny Bay both from Bayes Sound, BC. For mains, we ordered a P&P Surf and Turf and sea scallops served in a lemon fondue. We also ordered a side of truffle risotto and the crab creamed corn (special). I found the surf and turf a bit on the salty side, but my wife said it was spot on. The scallops were my favorite, refreshing yet rich (my wife thought there was a touch of heat). The creamed corn was also a favorite, this coming from someone who doesn't like creamed corn. The risotto was also phenomenal. Dessert was a double crème brûlée. I consider myself a connoisseur of it. The brûlée was even through the I think, Amanda entire top. The crème was definitely vanilla-forward, but good nonetheless. Not the best I've had. The texture was too cake-like, with too much loose liquid. My wife described the crème brûlée as "that's gross". Amanda was our server, and was outstanding. My only complaint was a lack of a table touch from the manager or chef. The ambiance is more relaxed than other fine dining establishments in Des Moines, but still good. The music however didn't fit the rest of the restaurant, and was too loud. Overall, I both recommend Prime and Providence and will be back.

Yelp
've never done a restaurant review but this place was way overpriced for a very mediocre tasting steak. If you want a great steak go to Flemings or Ruth Chris. This place charged $62 dollars for a tiny steak, and of course nothing included so then you order the $20 potatoes. They charged for bread and when we bought a dirty martini they charged $3 extra because we asked for a stuffed olive. The actual cocktail menu has about 5 choices on it then they try to upscale you to their "prime" drink list where a old fashioned cost $45. The atmosphere is not good either. We have been to restaurants all over the country and this one was one of the most disappointing restaurants we have ever been too. The server was good though

Joe H.

Yelp
Service was good. Ambience was great. But overall the food was decent at best. The star of the show should've been the meat but it was underwhelming. For the price this should be up there with the best restaurants in town but it wasn't. We had the ribeye and the P&P surf & turf, they were good but lacked any wow factor. The drinks were good but the cocktail menu was limited. My overall impression is that this restaurant wishes to be fancier and better than it actually is.

Brian F.

Yelp
My wife and I visited a few weeks after the official opening. Splash is one of our favorite restaurants so we were very excited to try this restaurant (former Splash chef opened this place). Bottom line, extremely disappointing. Appetizer flavors were bizarre. The bone marrow had absolutely no taste. The focaccia bread was served with a very strong herbed butter and you couldn't taste the bread at all. Caesar salad presentation was quite unique...it just didn't taste that great. It wasn't terrible or anything, but I have had many other Caesar salads in Des Moines that are better (Django, Splash, etc.,) The pork chop was just plain bad. It was seared very intensely which dried out the top and bottom and the center was very undercooked. They told me it's prepared sous vide so the inside can appear less cooked than other methods. I get that but the burnt sear on top of the mushy middle was very unappealing. Wife had fish - I forget which one. It was over cooked and cold. We didn't finish a single thing we ordered. It was a terrible experience. I know that might make you think we're pretentious, but I have never had a similar experience at any other restaurant I have been to in my life. My hope is they had a bad night and things will improve. Our waitress was very kind. She asked how things were when she saw we didn't eat very much. We kindly explained that we didn't like the food and she asked us to write a note to the chef. We did. I hope things have improved because it's clear this project took a ton of time, effort and money. I think we'll try this place again in 6 months or so to see if things have improved.

Michelle S.

Yelp
Food and service was excellent. My favorite was the Japanese wagyu Flight paired perfectly with a pinot noir with the recommendations from their somm.

Angela C.

Yelp
Super high class steak and seafood. There are so many wonderful options it's hard to choose. I had the scallops and they were done perfectly. The "bacon" is unlike any bacon you've ever had. And the scalloped potatoes were exquisite. Highly recommend.

Martha A.

Yelp
Great meal, service and ambiance! Was hungry, just passing through town on a road trip. Would highly recommend for date night, special occasion or just a great treat

Dave T.

Yelp
This was our first visit and we ate in the lounge area. Service was solid but the lounge area was nearly empty throughout our entire meal. We ordered the seafood bucatini and the 72 hour bison ribs with Brussels sprouts. The bucatini pasta was ok but lacked flavor, it was one note and my wife ate 1/2 her plate & said she would not order again. The 72 hour Bison was very flavorful but very tough and chewy. I asked our waitress how it was prepared and she said it was braised and grilled. She said she told the chef and she reported the chef would talk to his meat supplier? Finally brussel sprouts were flavorful but were swimming in olive oil and garlic. The execution was lacking for a high end steak/seafood restaurant & no one came by our table asked us if we enjoyed our meal despite leaving 1/2 our food. Not sure we will come back

Steve H.

Yelp
It was one of the last soft-opening nights, and the team crushed it! Sat / ate at the bar; five appetizers, four different craft cocktails and an amazing dessert, all served as if we were the only customers in the joint - which was packed. The design and ambiance is really cool; modern, clean, crisp but also warm and inviting. Classic Steak House meets Cool Place to Hang Out vibe. Great communication between the staff, a slight kitchen delay was communicated and managed in advance, and not sure we would have noticed, but the extra touch was handled well -- Prime and Providence moves into my top three in Des Moines!
