Google
Very convenient and accessible. Has almost all commonly used Indian products (although at a modestly higher price). Their fresh food options are great as well - big fan of Palak Paneer. Prime is much cleaner and better organised than most Indian grocery stores I have been to.

Pratik Gaitonde

Google
This is an Indian Grocery Store in Newport and probably the only store around the vicinity. It has all the items required although a little pricey but you have to pay a charge for convenience. They also have a small kitchen with a limited menu which is delicious. Since the time we ate there we always eat from Prime. Along with mains, they also have chat and snack options which are really good.

Ahmed Saidu

Google
Excellent business run by honest people with an excellent grill. Reasonable prices. Watch out for the credit card fee of 1% or something but other than that no complaints.

Shreyas Singh

Google
We tried the pav bhaji from this place even though it was not on the menu, and it was delicious. It’s a decently sized store with a huge variety of frozen and cooked options.

Poorva Bhatnagar

Google
You get most of the Indian staples/vegetables here. It is very very pricey though. The food counter is double the price of Bikanerwala. Normally if you buy the same stuff from Journal Square or any other shop like Mortan Williams you can easily save a lot of money.

Lily Of The Valley

Google
I found excellent food items that I couldn’t find anywhere else. Irish bangers, venison, lamb, bison, sticky toffee pudding; just to name a few! I highly recommend it! It is a bit pricey though.

Roshani Nair

Google
Rude service/ billing counter experience, they just throw ur receipt and cards across the table. I wish I could give just zero star. It's priced much much higher compared to any other store. I just hope some other brand pops up in Newport and these guys shut down.

Torrence Innocent Daniels

Google
It’s good option for Indian groceries for Newport people but a bit expensive as compared to journal square Indian grocery stores.. there food and snacks is good, specially panner tikka and samosas…

Yelp
Prime Food Market is the go-to spot for Indian groceries in Jersey City, boasting an array of fresh produce, packaged items, frozen goods, and beverages. If you are yearning for Indian snacks, look no further! An added delight is their live food counter, where indulging in savory samosas and Vada Pav is a great source of joy. The only drawback lies in the quality of the bags provided, as they tend to tear easily. Despite this, Prime Food Market remains highly recommended for anyone seeking delicious Indian foods and snacks in Jersey City.

Yelp
** If you are Black or Brown, your experience will be different than others. Rest assured. ** Example: 7/20: I have 4 items and I am behind one lady who is already having her groceries scanned. My 4 items are already on the register since I don't have a basket. Another cashier opens up and signals a White Male behind me to go to his register. This customer proceeds and I literally pushed my 4 items that were already at the register toward this cashier who did not apologize or anything. It was the White Male who did. By the way, if you have not noticed, I am a Latina Female. I have been coming here for the past 3 months and at least a dozen times. It is the closest market to get last-minute groceries without hiking to BJs or Shop Rite. Thus, I have a sample size of at least N=12+ Plus: You can find reasonably priced groceries Well-stocked vegetables and spices You can buy hot food Cons: The attitude is like they are doing YOU a favor by pushing your groceries back after they scan it. If you are Black or Brown, beware, your experience may be different than others, especially by the thin clerk at the register. The customer service is as bad or worst than DMV.

Yelp
This is a convenient Indian grocery store if you don't have a car that takes you to Journal Square for shopping. But you gotta pay a price for this convenience - usually $1 or 2 extra on all grocery items, than the regular pricing at the stores. I have been going to this one for emergencies when I run out of items at time produce / spice-wise. They also have an open kitchen and deli that serves delicious chaat ( appetizers) and entrees. Never tried the entrees but have been stuffing samosa chaat, Dahi puri, dabeli papdi chaat, and vadapav(least fav) for 3yrs now. If you're a non-Indian you might be overwhelmed with the ratio of Indian to American products so beware. Produce is not widespread but you'll find important items. They have a huge frozen item selection and in fact, some of the items aren't even available at Patel Brothers. Recently they increased the cost of the chaat tremendously from $5.49 to $7.99. Their prices were definitely competitive for the quality and quantity previously but I can tell they are still busy as a bee. The kitchen is closed on Monday but the store is open on all days! Forget about parking, it's Jersey City!

Yelp
One of the few Indian grocery stores in Newport, this store also has an open kitchen and provides take outs/delivery of Indian food. The grocery store is slightly more expensive compared to its competitors in Jersey City. However, the food is good and economical. Dabeli: An Indian version of a semi sweet burger, Dabeli is a popular street food in India. The party is made of potatoes and the dressing includes pomegranate, peanuts and tamarind sauce. The quantity is decent. Just right for one person. Samosa chaat: samosa is similar to a puff party filled with potatoes and peas. The samosa is topped with a chickpea curry, green chutney, tamarind chutney and yogurt. It's pretty good if eaten fresh. We carried this back home and was quite soggy in 10 minutes Paapdi chaat: a crisp flat bread topped with raw onions, yogurt, green chutney, tamarind chutney, bakes potatoes and sev(noodle like snack made from gram flour). Not spicy at all. Malai Kofta: a friend dumpling made of mixed vegetables served in a rich creamy gravy. Pretty nice and fresh. Would definitely get this next again. It is accompanied with steamed rice Dal Makhani: A black lentil curry made by slow cooking the lentils with Indian spices and abundant butter, it is extremely well prepared. The order will include rice but this can also be accompanied with naan.

Yelp
OMG!!!! The most delicious Chicken Korma ever!!! And the absolutely best vegetable samosa I have ever had!! 6 stars!!! Chicken was enough for two but I wolfed down 3/4 by myself!!! Absolutely delish and absolutely authentic. The guy at the register that so many mentioned was there but I was helped by the kindest elderly gentleman and have zero complaints!!!! Besides, If the food is this good I can handle a little crank! Can't wait to try more!!!

Yelp
It's Indian market. It has non organic and organic groceries. Good selection. It doesn't have a parking lot. Parking can be an issue. They sell some fresh snacks / Appetizers too. Samosa, chutney, vada (vada pave) is good. Pav was not warm and soggy. If you want to try, try samosa or just vada with red dry chutney.

Yelp
So we rented a VRBO walk up loft for Xmas vacay and went to the supermarket 8 blocks away to stock up. Inevitably however, it seems you always forget some small items. This is the beauty of the existence of stores like Prime Food Market. They were literally next door, and had the essentials of a grocery store. They had an ok selection of produce and a definite slant towards Indian products. They also had a deli counter with take out Indian food. We ordered a quantity of samosas for a pre-Xmas gathering, and they were a big hit! Very delicious! What I didn't like was the staff. Rude, taciturn and disinterested would all be applicable adjectives to describe them.....it is what it is.

Yelp
Prime Food Market has been a "god-send" for me. Back in the day [2013], the food here was very very [very] questionable. It would be cooked in the morning and be served till late in the night. Fortunately, the guys who owned this place had a change of mind-set [for the better] and bought in a new cook who now prepares everything after it's ordered. Amongst the things that I've loved the most [to the freakish extent that I've ended up ordering multiple times a week] are the Bombay Sandwich, Paneer Mutter, Paneer Tikka Masala, Vada Paav. [Frankly, the list is much bigger than that] The grocery prices are slightly more than what you'd get at your normal retail store such as "Shoprite" / "Target" but given the location of this place, you wouldn't mind shelling a few extra bucks vs having to walk a mile or so.

Yelp
Great little Indian grocery store in Hamilton Park. It is more expensive than Journal Square, but since the pandemic hit I've preferred to stay more local and this is the perfect place to get your Indian groceries. They have pretty much everything you need: spice packs, biscuits, pantry supplies, dairy, frozen food, etc. They even have a fresh food deli. The produce section is small but adequate. $15 minimum for credit card.

Yelp
I have been going to this place for over three years now even though the guy at the register is & has always been very very rude (I lived with this only cus food is good). They recently messed up an order without onion garlic and when I called to complaint, the first thing I hear from the guy at the register is that 'I am not the one making things'. Then when I said do I need to call the cook separately when placing an order, he changed his mind and says ' I said I was not in the store n someone else took it'. Then when I raised my tone he suddenly started talking in a soft tone calling me Dada(big brother) and the only thing he had to say was I tell the guy who took the order. If you ask me it was a blatant lie and I am pretty sure he took the order. And I am not going here again!

Yelp
Location is convenient for those living on the north and east sides of Hamilton Park. However, the customer service is terrible. I purchased a gallon of organic whole milk, and despite the March expiration date, it had clearly gone bad once we opened it. My husband returned with the milk and the receipt and explained it was spoiled, and they refused to refund our money because "the milk was open." Um, yes - that is how we discovered it had gone bad. Obviously, we can't serve spoiled milk to our son. Despite the convenient location and as much as we have been trying to support local businesses during the pandemic, we won't be patronizing this business any more and will be sharing our experience with our friends and neighbors.

Nil B.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and ho grocery shopping somewhere else. One star because - staff is past due for a basic training on how to interact politely with customers (hello, thank you, goodbye...). - many products sold are close to their expiration date (and the price doesn't reflect it) - many fresh products aren't. Lime, lemons are so old and dry you barely won't get any juice from them (are these old products discounted from other stores??) - if you order food be ready to wait quite some time - it s not possible to put 0 stars.

Yelp
This is one of the best Indian Food joints in Jersey City. Their dishes are authentic, almost like home cooking, and consistent day after day. My favorites are Dal Tadka, Palak-Paneer, Bhindi-Masala to quote a few. I prefer to get their Palak-Paneer without cream (request when ordering). Of course, my review refers to their vegetarian offerings. Also, please note theirs is a takeout only kitchen (saves you $$). As a regular, I should also recognize their staff, who are always friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
I discovered this gem while I was temporarily working in Newport in April. Since due to the pandemic , I wasn't going to drive to Newark Ave and my usual Indian grocery delivery service also stopped, I found this store God Send. The store is very clean and organized. It was never crowded whenever I went there and you always find parking outside. On Entry they remind you to use the hand sanitizer. Not sure why others are saying the people at the counter are rude, to me, they were extra courteous, always asking if I have bags or did I find everything I was looking for ? All the common things you can find here, prices might be slightly higher, but for me it's a price if convenience. I rather go to a clean uncrowded place than somewhere else. They also have a take out for food and on my grocery runs , I always pick something to eat. My family loves the Bhel they make. I have tried their Dabeli, Butter Chicken, samosas...all good . Keep up the good job !!

Ayushi C.

Yelp
Cute little indian grocery store in the area with small take away food counter inside the store. I like this store it has all indian grocery items I need readily available with Dabeli for snack after completing shopping trip

Alankrita G.

Yelp
Very unprofessional! Delivers food and forces to tip a certain amount, I tipped him $3 and he made it $5!! Such a cheat!!!
google avatar

Rity U.

Yelp
Food is good but the staff is very rude and unfriendly. A bit pricey for what it is but overall a decent place for your cravings.
google avatar

Nivi R.

Yelp
Friends who live in JC suggested that we pick up food from here in our way home. The place looked a little dingy as we entered and I had very low expectations. We got paneer masala, dal fry and rotis. The food was the bomb!! So glad I don't live in JC anymore, else I'd never cook.
google avatar

Vibhuti B.

Yelp
Samosas and Dabeli are the best! We have ordered from here multiple times and the consistency of the samosas and Dabeli is always the same.
google avatar

Al W.

Yelp
I think this is the cleanest Indian grocery store I have been to. I've also had my best samosa here. Their take out dishes are tasty and so reasonable too. My fav is the okra. My friends from India say it tastes like home cooking.
google avatar

Robert Wren G.

Yelp
Four stars for cleanliness, otherwise three. It's true, the cashiers are never in a terribly wonderful mood but you might get a smile if you frequent the place. Very good variety and size for a corner convenience store. The prices are high, especially compared to Shop Rite down the road. Then again you and usually come in and out of here, no lines, items are easy to find, and, again, the place is VERY clean. As my father would say, you get what you pay for. On a side note, I like the Indian soft drinks in the cooler on the western wall as well as the mango juice on the racks facing said cooler. Very good Haagen Dazs selection, they always have the dulce de leche variety, unlike Shop Rite. They also carry artisanal/organic ice creams as well as gelatos. And it's nice that they make mango lassi in house. If I could make once suggestion it would be to lower the credit/debit card minimum from $10 to $5.
google avatar

Chris V.

Yelp
Good quality Indian food to order and the place is clean. Customer service needs improvement, most guys are nice just one annoying guy.
google avatar

Stefano T.

Yelp
Overpriced, I get its a convenience store but the prices of the items are shocking. Also their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, I've just been in and the guy behind the counter left me standing there for a while whilst he finished whatever he was doing on his phone, never looked up at me, never spoke....not even when I gave him the money. I had to get the price from the register....really?! Try being welcoming to your customers!
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the outside! They have amazing Indian food you an order, and it was a good friend who is Indian, who told me it's pretty close to home cooking, It's better than any place I've eaten in Manhattan and I lived there for 15 years. Must order!

Julia H.

Yelp
Yooo. Hidden gem for Indian take out! Chicken korma is sooo good. Their naan is also delish. Very reasonably priced and the shop keepers are very friendly. The take out kitchen exists alongside a Indian grocery market which is fun to browse and bring home new things to try. Check out the frozen prepare meals section. Been a life saver during CoVid.
google avatar

Craige M.

Yelp
This unassuming little store has been around for a while but it's off the beaten path so I forget about it. It's open late and is good for your basic convenience store items such as ice cream, snacks, and so forth. But what really sets them apart is the impressive array of frozen Indian entrees. Some are as cheap as $3 and the two I tried tasted better than plenty of freshly made Indian food. Paired with a package of frozen naan, that's a great cheap meal right there. Then, if you're feeling adventurous, come back for the variety of dried beans and spices and cook up your own Indian dishes. And pick up some ice cream flavors you definitely won't find at A&P. There is a food counter as well, but I never see anything being cooked when I go in so I'm not sure what the deal is with that. $10 minimum on credit. There's also a cash machine.
google avatar

Vanessa Y.

Yelp
Have been here a few times, they have a lot of your basic veggies at prices cheaper than most chain supermarkets. If they sold meat too then I would do all of my grocery shopping here.

dew d.

Yelp
This was long overdue. We like their food and their service. They pay attention to what you ask for. I usually order my food with less salt and they always modify the curries to make them less salty for me. I have been a regular since 5 years and this review was long due.
google avatar

cory b.

Yelp
Over priced for most groceries, but it's a convenience store, not a supermarket, so that's normal. The Indian items like basmati rice, ghee, curries, lentils and sauces are what make the trip worth it. Also, the hot food is very good. Get the aloo chaat and a side of samosas.
google avatar

Alwaysbe L.

Yelp
Very reliable neighborhood Indo-bodega with rock solid Indian food to go. This corner convenience store opens late with fair pricing on daily essentials like organic milk, bottled water and ten pack of Magnums. :p Staff is friendly and for a store this size a very respectable stock of Indian goods like spices, basmati rice and sweet & savory snacks. What brings me back week after week is their well priced and small but focused Indian food menu that is consistently good and cooked to order - Curry chicken, Chicken Tikka, Palak Paneer, Chole Masala, and various chaats are shoulders above rest of downtown JC. You can watch the CCTV screen as the chef make it fresh back kitchen and brings it himself on a tray to the registers. So glad they're doing well now after ownership change and expansion few years ago.
google avatar

Lokesh S.

Yelp
Nice and clean store, and their kitchen is awesome. They got best Samosa's in USA, and their food is also good (I tried only vegetarian).
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
this little market has the best takeout Indian food around Hamilton Park. of course if you want to go and enjoy some delicious South Indian, go to Newark Avenue but when it comes to a delicious weeknight takeout you can't go wrong. YUM

Nick A.

Yelp
Love the deli & Indian fast food. Place is pricey but good for quick bites & small ant of Indian groceries
google avatar

GT P.

Yelp
Excellent INDIAN food, specially the chaats and naan is the best I had had in this area. I highly recommend checking it out, don't let the name of the place fool you.
google avatar

Ruchi M.

Yelp
This is a convenient store in true sense. I live next door and love its location because I can satisfy my craving for chaat paapdi, samosa, paneera tikka and what not at a stone throw away distance. The food has improved over time and I like all the items in the menu. The chicken tikka is great as well, my new favorite is gobhi naan. The prices are a little more than the usual desi store but since its so convenient you pay the price for it.

Tara K.

Yelp
Clean, well stocked, neat (Indian) grocery store! Essentially Indian food and snacks but they also carry chips, pasta and a decent variety of frozen ready to eat food. The prices are higher than the other Indian grocery stores in Jsq, but this is in Hamilton Park! Plus they have parking behind. Hurrah for that! Great samosas!!
google avatar

Jeff A.

Yelp
We bought our needs here Ina daily basis. Had all the groceries we needed and they staff was excellent. Tried some good Indian food as well. They had all your basic home cooking needs. Thanks your customers from Texas!

Kathrine L.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable Indian food. Great portions (1 entree is enough for two people) and they also give onions & lemon on the side. I do not order Indian food from anywhere else besides Taste of India in the mall. They are also good at remembering their regular customers.
google avatar

Bhavy F.

Yelp
Love this place. We eat here once a week. Groceries are fresh and the simple layout of the store makes the chore less of a hassle. Samosas here are delicious!

Archena A.

Yelp
Great convenient location for Indian groceries- the little food bar is pretty good too. Cost is a little higher than journal square- but you pay for the convenience.

Ash M.

Yelp
We ordered malai kofta from Prime Food and found cockroach in it while eating. It was absolutely disgusting.

Parag J.

Yelp
KK (the so called manager) is ruining the place. I have been charged incorrectly multiple times and he always has some weird excuse. The owners must look into this as the place will take no time to go down.

D P.

Yelp
well stocked store..avg variety of indian groceries and hot food. The customer service is bad, the guy in the counter(cashier during noon) was busy digging his phone when people are waiting in line to check out and we had to call him out to bill and pay the money.Better service and collection in jsq.

Ravibhushan J.

Yelp
If you are looking to satisfy your taste buds with awesome Indian food, order from Prime food. They have a limited menu but what they do they do very tasty. Prices are on little higher side for few of the menu items though. You cannot dine in there. The bottom line us Great taste!

Amit D.

Yelp
This little indian deli in jersey city is really good indian food for take out. We usually go there once or twice a week for groceries/take out food is really good, try bhindi masala or navratan kurma or anything else. Everything here is really good, made to order and the uncle on the counter is really friendly as well. Do try this place if you haven't , I am sure you will like it.

P S.

Yelp
Conveniently located!!! The vegetarian food is amazing. Better than some of the indian restaurants around the area. The Dal tadka & Bhindi is delicious...& they deliver!
