Upon arrival I was very impressed with the hotel aesthetics, I initially booked it based off an online review that showed how the hotel had accommodated to their religious belief and set the room up for them. Despite adding these notes on my booking and calling the hotel twice and accepting the request we didn’t get anything. That was ok, it did not have any effect on my impression of the hotel itself as I am aware it is a special request. The room is nice with a moody vibe and exposed shower and bathtub to the entire room, which made it hard to shower comfortably. Not sure if the family rooms would’ve been different. Besides 2 of the concierge staff that we only saw once, the rest of the staff were unable to communicate in English much, so created a language barrier when asking questions and couldn’t understand anything we would ask.The Buffet and Buffet staff were the biggest disappointment, dismissive and rude. The buffet was limited for us besides boiled eggs, almost everything had pork or cross contaminated with pork. On the first day, we had been told that we will have the breakfast fee taken out of our deposit. As we walked in we let the staff member know after we gave our room number and entered. We had just sat down to eat the staff member shoved the eftpos machine in our face mid-bite and we let her know again. She insisted until we were able to somewhat explain it again. The next day we brought down small container of food to have with our breakfast as there were not many options in the buffet for us and the kids. We had kindly asked a the front if they could warm it up, the staff had to call a manager and make us wait outside the buffet and the manager came down only to say no without hesitation to the staff member without even addressing us or acknowledging us with an explanation. We went to the front desk and let them know the situation to which he agreed to, after making us wait to contact someone else for approval and said they’ll warm it up for us on the condition we had to go eat it in our room and not allowed to eat it in the dining hall or the lounge, just our room. That made us feel humiliated and uncomfortable. In every hotel we stayed in China up until this one they never had any issues with this, they would go further and even put any food we brought back on our exploring on plates warm it up and serve it to us. Let alone send us to our room to eat like we were being punished. We threw away our food and left the hotel to find somewhere else to eat. Upon checkout, they charged us for water bottles we didn’t even use. When we tried to explain the bottle is untouched up in our room, she couldn’t understand. At this point the frustration kicked in we agreed to charge us the water just to get out of there. These experiences dampened our mood and really overtook any positives this hotel had.
