Primo's Hoagies Review - Center City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Primo’s is like the Starbucks of hoagies (if Starbucks was awesome and didn't serve floppy sandwiches). There are locations all over the city, they have tons of options, and the sandwiches are consistently good. They make a great Italian and Suprimo (chicken cutlet with mozzarella and roasted red peppers), but it’s the Turkey Schwartzie we order over and over again. Swiss cheese, crisp coleslaw and plenty of russian dressing is piled on top of roasted turkey breast. You’ll need extra napkins, but the mess is worth it. Plus, they cater, so you can make everyone at the block party happy with one massive platter." - Alison B. Kessler

Just bought a sandwich from here . Sandwich was horrible . Bread was stale ..so stale and hard as a brick .. onions was so thin look like it’s been sitting in water or onions looked like lettuce . . sandwich was 16 dollars .. was not good .. the mgr gave me my money back , but wanted to insist that the sandwich was fresh IT WAS NOT.

Google
I ordered a primo turkey and American cheese hoagie. I didn’t have to wait long. The sandwich was freshly made and the bread was cooked perfectly! It’s very clean in there and has a friendly staff. This was my first time trying a sandwich from this location, and I definitely would recommend it! if you’re looking for a place with great hoagies, and great customer service, I highly recommend this Primo Hoagies location!

Kimi

Google
Over Priced sandwich $ 14.65 Little portions for$14.65 dollars with nothing as chips or a drink. Stale bread 🍞 hard as a rock. No where to sit down as most Primos This location is a complete dump & outdated. Want be eating at another Primos Hoagies ever again at his location or any other location. This place is overpriced for what little you getand has no tables to eat at but one would not expect much in this run down poverty area. Your Grand Opening was scam sent 2 customers to you at 11 am you never gave away no 100 free sandwiches your grand opening they said it was nothing but a scam on your part. You don't have that much business as is when you took over new owner. Pure Deception on a past business with few customers lol Doors be closed in 6 months lol like previous owner sold the area ran down. Your business will be a complete failure on your deception and the area is nothing but poor and proverty Poor white trash & drug addicts and homeless everywhere. Thats why inside Primos Hoagies looks like it does poor white trash not a single table. Poor trash at its best. When is the going out of business day coming I want to celebrate 🍾 The closing of your over Priced sandwich with little on it. Stay Tuned for closing

Google
This place just sucks, Ive ordered from you 6 times over the past months. Whats the point of having made to order hoagies if you have no intention to make them as ordered ?? I order a sharp hoagie with MAYO & OIL you skimp on meat and not once have you ever put mayo and oil on the hoagie. Im done ordering from your establishment you don’t follow directions but you don’t mind taking my money !!!

Google
Best Primo's location in the city. New owner Pat is amazing, very welcoming and great personality. Sandwiches are fresh and loaded with meat. This location is now apart of our weekly rotation of takeout foods.

Google
Had family who came from out of town to visit and wanted a hoagie. The young man at the register was extremely helpful. Even went and showed my uncle the sizes of the rolls since he was confused. Service was great and speedy, and my family loved the hoagies.

Joseph Lavin

Google
This is my favorite primo hoagies. I got the buffalo chicken cutlet. It was outstanding. I will be back very soon for another. Very friendly and helpful Staff. The new owner is going to do great things at this location.

Google
Always a great experience when stopping by to get a Hoagie. New Owner and Staff are great - the store is always very clean. Hoagie is delicious and fresh - highly recommend the tuna salad.

Yelp
I had a sudden death in the family, when various other delis in this area said NO to a hoagie tray Told me I need to order in advance, really !! do you plan a death in advance?? With this being said and as late as it was in the day on a Sunday mind you, Primo's deli and their employees went over and above to put this together for us! Definitely where I will do business from now on!! Absolutely Two thumbs up for Primos and their Employees A special Thank you To Brenda and the employees who helped to expedite this for us!! The food was fresh and tasted amazing, the establishment is very clean and welcoming and the service was professional and quick Welsh road Store

Yelp
had been going here a bit lately to Welsh Road. Last night I stopped at 7:38 pm and came in and the menu was turned off. I asked the gentleman if they were still open and he said 20 minutes. He continued to clean and ignored me. I just walked out. Totally rude and unprofessional. Obviously he wanted to get out even with the door still open. I have no plans to go back.

Yelp
Delicious, high-end cold cuts and cheeses. Fast service for a busy hoagie shop. Competitive prices for the actual quality and quantity delivered. The employees try to be friendly to everyone but some customers are cranky jerks who will not reciprocate. Beautiful, clean store in a gorgeous shopping center. The neighborhood is slowly decaying as more low class people move in but is still relatively safe by Philly standards (one of the recent fatal shootings within three blocks occurred at the bar a few doors down). I removed a star only because I dislike the rolls (I prefer the legendary South Philly Italian bakery rolls). But most other people love Primo's rolls, so do not be dissuaded by me.

Yelp
Very good service. Old Italian hoagie was fantastic! Take out only. But that was no problem.

Carol W.

Yelp
Picked up 2 hoagies last night and I was so disappointed. I ordered the crusher which had bits of chopped pepper shooters. The bread was stale and the hoagies shrunk by 50 percent. I have been a customer for years, but I will never return again. I will go where people value their reputation.

Daniel Z.

Yelp
Order from Primos all the time. Wack sandwich today. Ice cold eggplant and no broccoli rabe on this $12 hoagie.
google avatar

Matt B.

Yelp
This is a letter to the owner. Your place is open til 7pm on sat, I went in for 2 full hoagies, about a 60$ order and I was turned away by what ever manager was closing 8/13/22. Other people were being turned away as well. I'll never visit your store again, the staff were incredibly rude... literally huffed and puffed when I told them what I wanted. Update; because you guys didn't have time to take my order, I didn't have time to pick up the order I placed on the phone a couple days later. Hope it didn't go to waste.

Danielle H.

Yelp
I just ordered the Roast Beef Schwartzie Primo which is supposed to come with coleslaw & Russian dressing & the only thing on my sandwich was meat & cheese. A dry sandwich & a waste of $15 on my lunch break.
google avatar

Ashley G.

Yelp
I am grateful the food came quick but I blatantly asked for a non seeded bun and alas, seeds... It's a huge pet peeve when my order isn't made correctly. It just sucks because the seeds really annoy me and makes it hard to enjoy.

Yelp
This is my second time using this Welsh road Primos- We received excellent customer service at this establishment. Everyone was friendly and food was ready. I called in last minute for a large party tray and they had it ready within two hours and completed all of my substitutions properly and free of charge. Some of the other locations nickel and dime you for small requests and swap outs but not this place. Keep up the good work guys and we'll only be using your location from now on...thanks a million!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been ordering from this store for years and have continued to do so because the food is always fantastic. I recently ordered online for delivery and received an incorrect item. Upon calling the store to explain the situation, the manager Linda apologized and went above and beyond in making things right. That gesture ensured that they'll continue to get our business for a long time.

Rich M.

Yelp
Ok for a chain hoagie spot. Haven't had a bad interaction or experience. Good for last minutes good decisions.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
I've been going there for many many years have not been there in a while because of the virus the people that work there an owner is a very nice guy and I really have a lot of respect for him thank you for everything and the staff is really awesome too thank you Primos
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Thee best hoagies. The meat and rolls are so fresh. Quick delivery and reasonable prices.
google avatar

Mossie F.

Yelp
I consider primo a sortve, northeast favorite, sortve unusual cloudy day -buy. I always use to get a 'bada bing', which over the years ive sorta just sunken into a 'whatever' mentality; letting my mom order us something to split. She likes traditional ham and cheese hoagie. They have the good, hard, seeded rolls just for the occasion.

Chad M.

Yelp
I ordered 5 items, they sent 1 item to me. How hard is it to complete a food order? They need to pay more attention to detail and expect more of their employees. I will be taking my business elsewhere, plenty of hoagie shops in this town.

Linda R.

Yelp
OMGGGGG this place is beyond horrible. The manager is a douchebag with a attitude! My hoagies were disgusting! I should have left when I saw him getting the trash, opening boxes, and wiping stuff down with the same gloves on! I only got my hoagies because he didn't TOUCH OR WRAP them but still! He only greets CERTAIN people when they come in, and never says thank you after you pay. Unbelievable! Glad I found a new location with better tasting sandwiches and attitudes!
google avatar

Martin H.

Yelp
Did this place get a new owner?? Just stopped and got 1/4 of the meat on a,hoagie that I've got before. I am not a Rabbit. Don't think this location is getting another shot from me!! Marinucci's will see all my business. Or Frankford Ave. Primo's!!
google avatar

Cynthia F.

Yelp
I love this place! They have a eggplant veggie hoagie (not sure of the real name) that is absolutely delicious. We had a luncheon at my work catered by them and I was impressed. I will definitely stop in a Primos when I am near one. Two thumbs up for this place.

Francis E.

Yelp
I ordered a chicken parm primo . It sucked to say the least . My order was $15 total for a slapped together trash chicken cutlet . That is not a chicken cutlet , what you served me was a cut up chicken patty that i can buy from dollar general next door amd on top of that it was burnt . I won't be coming back . Prices went up quality went down .

Yelp
1/19/2022. Regarding location at 2417 Welsh Rd in Philadelphia. In all honesty, the sandwiches are delicious. However, be careful if you have food allergies. I mentioned that I have an allergy to tomatoes and they put tomatoes on my sandwich. I bought two oatmeal raisin cookies and when I went to eat them they were chocolate chip cookies. The rice pudding is good though the last several times I bought it it was more like rice pudding soup, not the consistency of rice pudding at all. As this location is close to my parents' home and we ordered out often, I thought I'd reach out to the manager, whose name was Jim. I told him that I loved the sandwiches though I was considered about allergy issues. His response, "Yeah, the cookies were mislabeled." I told him luckily I don't have an allergy to chocolate though if I did it would be a problem and that I was letting this location know so they could correct it for other customers. He quickly told me that they make the cookies there and bag them themselves. Quality control is obviously not a concern at this location. Sad, because I'll find somewhere else to go where someone cares about their customers issues and concerns. This place, not so much! He quickly said, oh well, I've got to go and as I started to speak he hung up on me. Not nice!

Yelp
We decided to try Primo's, esp. after we received an email promising a free 20 oz soda if we bought a Primo size hoagie. I called to order one from this location, and verified with the worker (who asked another worker to check) that we got the free soda with the hoagie I was ordering. He said I did. When my husband went to pick it up, he was told he did not get the soda. I do not appreciate this kind of unethical advertising....promising people something to lure them in, and then reneging on it. It caused Primo's to lose our family as a new customer. We can get hoagies elsewhere...sometimes better and cheaper too. And from places that don't engage in deceitful advertising. Eat here if you want, just don't believe any email or other ad promises from them, that's all I can say.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Will not return. I ordered a lite turkey, ham, and cheese small hoagie. It was horrible. Had no flavor. Slapped together. When I say no flavor I mean zero flavor. No spices on it. Very little oil and vinegar. I ordered mayo on it. No mayo. The tomatoes were mush. Manager cared more about not giving out too many napkins than the quality of the experience. Patronage your local hoagie shop. This place sucks.

Kylie C.

Yelp
Do not order delivery from here!!!! They only have 1 driver and it took 2 hours for me to get my food. Not a good way to run business but if you are going to order here pick it up!
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
I went here really wanting to like it. My wife has raved about other locations so we thought we'd give this one a try since it's close to home. It was a huge disappointment. We got a couple of hoagies and a buffalo chicken cutlet sandwich on the recommendation of the girl who took our order. All if the sandwiches come on a very hard roll. If your into that, good for you but this is not even close to a traditional amaroso roll you'll get nearly everywhere else. The hoagies had very little meat on them but the quality was good. The chicken cutlet was baked and was obviously frozen. My chicken was actually still cold in the center! I could not eat it. When ordering, there are no prices on the board just calorie info. While that's good to know, it would have been nice to know that my 3 sandwiches where going to run $58! Really? You actually need to ask for a take out menu to see the pricing. And I emphasize ask because they had none on the counter. I wasn't the only one taken by surprise by the pricing as another couple came in and ordered a couple of sandwiches and were presented with a $34 total. The wife while paying actually turned to her husband and said, " I hope it's good because that was your lunch money for the week". I should have known it was a bad sign when the workers ordered out for pizza while I was waiting for my order to be done. I know this chain has a great rep and maybe this is an isolated incident but I will not be returning especially after my kids tried their hoagies and asked us never to go back. Between area steak shops like Steves and Wit or Witout and hoagie shops like slacks and Greenmans, I'll never make this mistake again.

Yelp
Excellent hoagies. Fresh bread, large portions, HUGE menu. Recommended!
google avatar

C M.

Yelp
Love their hoagies. The hoagies are on hard Italian Sarcone rolls. Which are nice and fresh. Their lunch meat is good and cut to order. My favorite is the Turkey Shwartzee. If a great hoagie is what you want try this place out.
google avatar

Ben V.

Yelp
Love these guys. Man, I really do. Wife and I had the chicken diablo and turkey breast lite. The seeded roll is similar to the ones they serve at Nick's Charcoal and John's Roast Pork in South Philadelphia. The meats are of high quality (thanks to Thurman's), the sharp provolone is sharp indeed, and the veggies they stack on are not of the "rehydrated" variety found in other "sub shops" that rhyme with TubDay. We stacked our subs with the suicidal Italian long hots because, well, we're Indian and so we can handle it! Check out Primo's if you haven't yet (shame on you for waiting this long) and order anything- believe me- you'll thank me later.

Jami H.

Yelp
Heard great things about this place and ordered for the first time today a small buffalo cutlet sandwich. The cutlets turned out to be two chicken tenders that were burnt...they left off blue cheese crumbles which I asked for...and I paid over $7 for this sandwich. Highly disappointed.
google avatar

Joey T.

Yelp
Generally speaking I don't like franchises because they are usually mediocre but usually that's not the case with Primos. This particular primos is sub par. Subs are slopped together and meat isn't always fresh. There are better primos out there just not in the northeast. (Note that the primos at Mechanicsville and Street road have the same owners but seem to serve a better product) Personally I'd rather go to meatheads at Grant and Academy

John B.

Yelp
Went to this location 3-4 Times, the other times the food was pretty good, but I was there on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend and the C team must've been working because after I ordered and got the Chicken Parm Sandwich to work after the second bit I realized that it was pretty RAW inside, after that I couldn't eat the sandwich and was far enough away where i could not bring it back. Instwad of Chicken Parm they served me Chicken "Harm"!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
EVERYONE SHOULD BE AWARE THAT THEY OVER CHARGE THEIR FOOD THEN BLAME GRUBHUB! I will never support this location again. I ordered from Grubhub. A sandwich was missing from my order which the manager tried to argue with me at first and then blame on the driver instead of just apologizing. And instead of having another one sent out he told me to come into the store and pick it up! Also I ordered pepper shooters which on Grubhub says $8. I received $4 worth (as per the label on the container). When I asked about this the manager said Grubhub up charges. (Which anyhow, you should deliver the right amount instead of allowing your customer to pay double for an item for no reason) I called Grubhub to be refunded of the items that were wrongfully priced and missing. I asked them about the upcharge. They told me that they get their prices from the restaurant's website! I compared prices from Grubhub and Primos website. Everything is more expensive on Grubhub. Pretty sure Grubhub does not dictate your pricing! So instead of being good business owners, this location overcharges their customer and blames third party vendors for their mistakes! Never ever again will I buy anything from here. You should be ashamed about how you treat your customers!

Sierra T.

Yelp
Hoagies are always good, employees are also always rude. They'll look right at you more than once, not say a word and continue to let you stand there. I encountered whom is described as the owner on here and he seems very nasty and bitter when I'm nothing but polite. Just a heads up, don't expect good service even though you get good food.

Shawn S.

Yelp
Primo's as a franchise is great but this location lacks customer service skills. While waiting for my hoagie today, an older chunky man with glasses presumably the manager repeatedly ordered other staff to not answer the phones for incoming orders. After 9 calls passed, the same man began picking up the phone and hanging up immediately, and then after doing this multiple times left the phone off the hook to refuse orders. Customers in the store can hear the phone off the hook and the lack of professionalism is absurd. How is this the customer service practice for any successful business? Primo's should address this issue with this staff member immediately before his attitude and behavior causes them to lose more than just the 9 orders they missed during my visit.

Charlotte D.

Yelp
I really like this location. The manager and staff are pretty friendly. They also make the hoagies pretty fast. You can't go wrong with Primo and this location is pretty good. It is in a strip mall so they have plenty of parking. This makes for a great location so you can get in and out fast on a lunch break if you work in the area
google avatar

Juan R.

Yelp
I always come here when I'm going to be hosting a party or a luncheon. The hoagies always taste amazing and I plan on ordering from here again soon, so if anything changes I will update this review.

Patrick R.

Yelp
I was headed down to the Phillies game and I wanted to pick up a couple of hoagies to eat in between cheers. I found out the South Philly location closed at 4, so I opted to grab the sandwiches in the north east and bring them down with me. I was a tad wary using a location that was not the original - in the heart of hoagie country. I had nothing to worry about. The Northeast Primos is nestled in the corner of the Blue Grass Plaza shopping center. The interior is extremely clean and bright. Along with their famous sandwiches they offer party platters. Olives, cheeses, lots of mouth fillers perfect for ingesting while watching a sporting event. The staff there is extremely friendly and informative. Their famous sandwiches live up to the hype. The meat is fresh and of extremely high quality. They use seeded rolls on all but the small sized hoagie. Another thing I wasn't sure about, but once I tasted the seeded roll combined with the oil and delightful Italian meats I forgot all my worries. Primos makes a great sandwich and this location has liberal hours, a pristine shop, excellent service and it is beyond simple to get to. I'll be back and I'll continue to tell everyone else to check it out.

Kev C.

Yelp
It's gotta be one of the best damn hoagies in Northeast Philly !! I used to think Greenman's on Robbins Avenue was the best, but Primo's got them hands down. I still like Greenman's, but I think One more thing, I'll never eat another hoagie from Wawa ever again. They were O.K. if you were starving & there was nothing else to eat, but Primo's gives you a ton of meat & the roll they give you is delicious !! Give me Primo's or give me death ! Lol !!
google avatar

Shannon Y.

Yelp
Their hoagies are the absolute best you will ever have. From the meats to the seeded rolls, Primo is king in a town that prides itself on its sandwiches.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
always clean. I always call in my order so its ready when I get there. Only once did i have a problem and they corrected it right away
google avatar

Ry R.

Yelp
Worst Primos in the city by far! I frequent Primos all around Philly as they are my favorite sandwich shop ( the R special is my sh!t ) but this one falls short in all areas of customer satisfaction. The service is terrible it's like they don't want your business or they're too busy to worry about your order, they're quick to rush you off of the phone like your bothering them, they mess up any, even the most minor details of what you wanted on your sandwich, and I've seen more meat on a Subway sandwich than on whatever these clowns are putting out. The three total times ive been to this primos has been horrible. I personally reccomend WaWa for a better experience.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Hands down great food, quite expensive but absolutely worth every penny! All Hoagies are made fresh to order, and they pack on the fixings! I personally order their famous Schwartze everytime their homemade russian dressing is to die for! They do close early so remember if you want the the best hoagie in Northeast Philadelphia you have to get there before 8 o'clock ;)
google avatar

Valentino G.

Yelp
Best hoagie in town! The Big T or the Spicy Italian with hot pepper shooters is a must have. I come to Primos for all hoagies and any tailgating food.
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Had to short a start cause sometime my sides are forgotten which sucks when I forget to check too but in love with the slim T, wish they were open longer hours.
google avatar

Elaine L.

Yelp
I love primos. We order out from here every Sunday for lunch, it's a family tradition. I usually get the chicken cutlet diablo and it's amazing. It's not Sunday without Primos.

A O.

Yelp
I called today to order a small tray at around 3:00 pm (they close at 5:00). They would not make me a "new" tray because they wanted me to take a pre made tray from the magee frankford store. They "didnt want it to go to waste". However, it wasnt what i wanted. I dont understand why they wanted to sell me an old premade tray. If im willing to pay there high prices why cant i get what i want?!? Never using them again, first time even i was offered a premade anything if im calling to request a tray with my hoagie choices not there. Lesson learned Primos on Welsh is off my ordering list. Disgracefull!!!
google avatar

Kyle U.

Yelp
Love the hoagies here. Would give it five stars if they didn't ALWAYS forget hot peppers on the side. Every time you have to go back. The one girl that works there rolls her eyes and gives you a ehheh when you say excuse me you forgot the hot peppers. God forbid she has to walk three feet to get them. Lol anyway food is great and the whole hoagies are insanely big enough to feed an eithiopian village.

Yelp
I've been going to this PRimoHoagies on Welsh Road in northeast Philly since it opened about 10 years ago. This is one of the first Primo's in the northeast and let me tell you - you shouldn't go anywhere else!!! They always treat me nice, they remember me and they always get my food right. I hate it when I have to return food or complain; its annoying. When I go to this particular PrimoHOagies - I never have to complain because everything is made right. My favorite hoagie is the WHACKED. I don't know how they came up with this name or the ingredients but I'm very glad that they did. I order at least once a week. Also, I don't know if this means anything to other people, but I like to order food from places that are clean and where they use gloves. This primos is always clean and they always use gloves. You really should call them and get a sandwich. You won't be disappointed. I even think its the same owner all these years because you kinda see the same person/s working there. I give them a great big THUMBS UP!!

sunny d.

Yelp
These hoagies have the most quality lunch meat out of any other joint in the phila area!! Ask for extra mayo and mustard!! I go there every tuesday after AA.
