"The former Stan’s Doughnuts, a neighborhood institution, has been taken over by West LA’s Primo’s Donuts, keeping an affordable, local fritter shop in Westwood Village. The buttermilk doughnuts are Primos’ famous flavor, with a cake-like interior and ample, golden brown glazed exterior." - Matthew Kang

I loved their donuts, and I always went in every morning for a custard filled one. The help was very friendly and nice. One morning, I went there, and they were closed, and the place was empty. Just like that with no warning, Primo's was out of business in Westwood. It was a shock. I will miss that little donut place. I heard the rent was too high and the homeless people were a problem. Let's hope that the City of Westwood addresses the same issues that have become problems for other businesses as well. George Vreeland Hill

Google
went to primos for a cheat meal cause I’ve been controlling sugar for a long time and just craving donuts :’) Def rly good! Not as fancy as some other ones in town (thus also fewer calories ig) but the quality is top notch! Would def recommend it to ppl in the area craving sweets for a local treat

Google
Newly renovated and looking great! Someone definitely put a lot of love and thought when it came to opening this place. Staff is super friendly, chatty, and really willing to help to ensure you get the best choice. Doughnuts are good, classic recipes and had some fun twists for the more adventurous. Only minus was they had no restroom available.

Michael Ong

Google
So glad to see them open! The space is bight and airy inside. Not yet as wide of a selection as the original store, but you can't go wrong with a buttermilk bar! A worthy successor to Stan's Donuts, already a local favorite and now even easier to get to. I hope they can bring back some local favorites like those with UCLA themed yellow and blue sprinkles or the peanut butter and chocolate "Huell" donut.

Clean store, friendly staff, yummy donuts 🍩 😋 😊

Google
Even day-old, stale Primo's donuts are better than fresh ones from many other donut shops. The glaze or frosting is always very flavorful and the buttermilk dough base is lightly but not overwhelmingly sweet. I've never been unhappy with a filled varietal or felt they skimped on custard. Since I always want to walk out with more than I could safely eat in several days, I like to roll up near the end of their hours and let fate help me choose from whatever's left. Just be prepared for possible disappointment (like, they're out of your fave) or experimentation (as in, they do have a slightly wild seasonal flavor instead) if this is also your strategy.

Google
Had every flavor of the gluten free donuts and now this is my go to place. I just wish they made them more often.

Hummus Lover

Google
I wish they would label the flavors because I feel bad asking them to explain it for what’s probably the hundredth time that day. But the donuts are great! The cake donuts, especially, are delicious. I appreciate how the donuts aren’t sweet, apart from the glaze.

Yelp
I passed by here after getting some boba and I had also been craving a donut. So I just popped in here to get one. The place was empty since it was the afternoon. They had all their donuts on display and they had a good variety. I just went with a classic chocolate glazed donut with sprinkles. It wasn't warm, but the dough was soft and airy, yet substantial. It was a pretty good donut, I would definitely come again.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Solid donuts! Soft, doughy and tasty. Also friendly and helpful service. Are these the freshest, most incredible donuts that I've had? Definitely not. But they're above average and will satisfy your cravings.

Ves S.

Yelp
Tasty donuts and fast service. Selection is limited but they're quite nicely sized for the price point. The Apple fritter was $3.50 and quite rich.

Esther M.

Yelp
I just happened to be walking by and looking for a dessert area. The price is average and the location is convenient for those in Westwood/UCLA. The donuts were so yummy. I would come back although the worker was quite odd and threw the donuts at me and my friend when she was done with us. The store was clean inside but I'd still come again despite the worker.

Yelp
A MAJOR SHOUT OUT TO TALSY BEHIND THE COUNTER!! I saw her today a left her a sizable TIP because her positive attitude is almost as good as the amazing donuts! She is an asset to Primos in Westwood Village who epitomizes customer service and kindness!! I'm going to return after an operation and hopefully celebrate with a 1/2 dozen! And my condolences to the entire Primo family on the loss of the founder, Ralph Primo. I have been a loyal fan for decades to their Original Sawtelle location. Ralph would be very happy to know that employees such as TALSY continue to reflect the values of this great brand. Michael P.

Yelp
Agreed with previous reviewer about the cashier! The young lady was the nicest person! Donuts are fresh and homemade. I got a dozen and if I'm in the area I will definitively be back

Alli B.

Yelp
Delicious and adorable! This is a great neighborhood spot with lots of donut options. I got a chocolate cake donut and a chocolate raised donut. Both were delicious, this place is super cute and in a great location.

Molly V.

Yelp
I really liked this Primo's, but now there's a sign on the door that says "closed indefinitely," and the Primo's website says this location is now permanently closed, as of Jan 5.

Jordan W.

Yelp
Great customer service! Donuts may not be the best in LA but still really great! Make sure to go early to get top pick!

Malisa R.

Yelp
Let me start out by saying that I love donuts. If I could swap out my basic food groups, you can find donuts. I have probably driven my husband crazy driving around town and cities to chase my donut cravings. Primo was no different regarding the adventure, but the donuts. Oh boy! Yumm! My favorite donut is a plain cake donut with chocolate frosting and rainbow sprinkles. If that's not available, anything cake donut will make me happy. I lucked out and got the last one. Score! At checkout, my husband reminded me of my donut tank "I run for donuts." I was so excited to show off my tank under my sweatshirt, I may have scared the girl during checkout. Luckily, she found my donut tank comical and gave me a free glazed buttermilk for all the entertainment. Double score!! The experience at Primo was awesome sauce. Once I sat down to stuff my face, the donuts didn't disappointment. They were pretty fried and not greasy. The perfect little donut for me! I wish I could tell you I didn't eat both donuts during one sitting while my husband watched. The glazed buttermilk was just as amazing!

Steven C.

Yelp
OTM 4/17/22-4/23/22 I came in on an OTM offer for an Apple fritter. I am a massive fan of Apple fritters and this location was right next to work, so it was a no-brainer for me. The Apple fritter was probably one of the best I've had. It was doughy and not too sweet. The size was generous as well. The two ladies that were working were extremely nice. I was in and out in less than 2 minutes. Street metered parking that is kind of limited, so keep that in mind.

Claudia B.

Yelp
For starters, I'm not a donut connoisseur, but because my husband IS, and we happened to learn that THIS place with its 5 star rating replaced the once beloved Stan's Donuts, well, he just had to give this place a try. Unfortunately, I tried a taste of what he did, and while this review is based on my thoughts (since I'm the Yelper), the reality is that he agrees with my assessment, and he's usually far more positive in his reaction towards donuts. For me, I just don't physically react well to fried dough. It sits very heavily in me, and I end up with heartburn. Not worth it. Plus, it often just tastes greasy going down... but I suppose, not if it's well made. Anyway, we tried a seasonal yeast donut that had pumpkin filling. It was "almost" really good because it was very light and airy, and the filling was very tasty. The problem, however, was that there was such a small amount of filling. It was all dough and a tiny little blob of pumpkin filling. Why couldn't there have been a considerable amount more of the filling? That's just not acceptable to me... or my husband. Then, we also split another yeast donut, which was a log shape and had a VERY thin layer of chocolate icing on top. I think this one had been sitting a day or two because it wasn't as fresh (light and airy) as the pumpkin filled donut, and it sat heavier on my tongue when biting/chewing it. Worse yet, the icing, while evident, was very thin, so the dough to icing ratio just didn't work for us, and instead of tasting chocolate as I should have, I only tasted fried dough. I took the one bite and was done, refusing to finish it. In fact, HE ended up throwing out the remaining donuts. That's something I would do, but NOT my husband !! Stan's, this wasn't... by a longshot. Again, I'm no connoisseur, but these donuts simply weren't to our liking.

Win Y.

Yelp
I was craving donuts last saturday Morning and didn't realize Dunkin was already open. I thought primos was the only donut place around Westwood area and reluctantly sent my husband. We had tried primos from the Sawtelle location and was not impressed- maybe our expectations were way too high? However to my surprise the donuts from Westwood primos were really good! I can't comment on the service or ambiance since I didn't personally go in the shop but I heard no complaints. I think we'll be frequenting this spot when we get donut cravings.

Angela W.

Yelp
No gimmicks no hype, just my new favorite doughnuts in LA! I was in the Westwood area and saw that Primo's Doughnuts was finally open. I had tried its predecessor, Stan's Doughnuts, and found them to be pretty average, but I wanted to give Primo's a go as well. The shop looked largely the same, and there was a decent flow of people in and out. Both people at the counter were incredibly friendly and actively took the time to strike up a conversation with me, which was quite nice :). As someone who recently had the dubious "pleasure" of seeing what felt like a whole hive of bees take up residence on the cinnamon rolls of another doughnut shop, I appreciated that Primo's doughnuts had a closed-off display case, and was in general more hygienic. I got the maple bacon bar, a glazed twist doughnut, and a chocolate-glazed buttermilk loaf, and they all blew me (and my friends) away. I've had many doughnuts that were sugary grease sponges, but the ones from Primo's were light and fluffy and not greasy at all. Coupled with the fact that their glaze must have some kind of witchcraft keeping it firm in my overly-warm hands, and I've never had a neater doughnut-eating experience. In addition, I tasted spices (cinnamon, at the very least) in the doughnut itself that added extra oomph to the overall flavors that I haven't really tasted in other places. Extra shoutout to the maple bacon doughnut, it was PACKED with well-cooked bacon bits and the glaze tasted strongly of maple syrup. I've never truly appreciated why people go crazy over this flavor combination until now. The sweet and savory combo on top of that delicious delicious doughnut, man I want another one just thinking about it! The cherry on the cake, for me, was how WELL these doughnuts stood up to time/reheating. I tried a bite of each when I first bought them, but then they remained crammed in my backpack next to some other purchases and carted across LA, finally ending up in my fridge around 11 pm. The next day (and the day after that, AND the day after that..) I progressively polished off the doughnuts, just popping them in the microwave for 10-15 seconds, and the dough remained incredibly light and not stale. Primo's doughnuts doesn't have crazy flavors or novelties like many of its competitors, but what it does have is exceptional doughnuts at a reasonable price. I can genuinely say that I enjoyed LITERALLY every bite of every doughnut that I got, and cannot wait to go again!

Yelp
Fast pick me up. Fresh donuts, a little on the sugary side. And a little too expensive for its quality...a dozen for $28.50??? Geez...

Daph H.

Yelp
I had been mourning the closure of Stan's Donuts in the Village but having Primo's open helps makes up for the loss. They did a fantastic job remodeling the space, creating a light and bright shop. It's so fancy now that they even serve Stumptown Coffee. Primo's has a nice assortment of yeast and cake donuts, including gluten-free and vegan options. The yeasted donuts are so light and fluffy that I like to think that they have zero calories (I wish). I tried their butterfly, which was like a cinnamon roll, with cake crumbles on top instead of icing - a perfect selection for me as it wasn't too sweet. My family declared that Primo's was just as good as Stan's. I do miss some of my old Stan's faves like the chocolate chip cinnamon roll and The Huell - though it's probably better for my health that I can't eat them any more. Happy to have a Primo's in Westwood! Metered street parking and free one hour parking in the Broxton garage before 5pm.

Yelp
Visited Tuesday, 10/19/21. This place used to be the famous, well-known Stan's Donuts (the heart of Westwood). Now that another donut place has been replaced, I wanted to try it out. Primo's Donuts recently opened and they were shown at the weekend KTLA 5 news. I ordered a half dozen ($13): - 1 Orange Cake - 1 Blueberry Cake - 2 Glazed Buttermilks - 2 Butterflies You can tell that the quality is definitely there despite the cost. Overall a 5/5 and will go back and try more. Interiors look great + a more modern look to it. Very close to the Bruin theater.

Emily F.

Yelp
Okay, we need to talk about the glazed raspberry jelly donut. THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD. The ratio of donut to jelly is PERFECT. I honestly can't say I've had another jelly donut as delicious as this one. The other donut I had-- chocolate cake-- was just okay. I didn't find it particularly unique or special compared to other chocolate cake donuts I've had in the past. I really appreciate the connection Primo's has made with UCLA and the deals they offer UCLA students. If the Bruins win a home football game, UCLA students get a free donut. PARENTS OF UCLA STUDENTS: Buy your kid a Primo's gift card for the holidays! (Yes, they offer them on their website!) They will thank you :)

Janelle A.

Yelp
I stopped by to pick up donuts before work! The mobile orders/ pick up was really convenient. The team loved these donuts! We will definitely be coming back!

Erin Rilke T.

Yelp
Always delicious and quick service :) haven't tried their coffee but should soon! Ambiance is cute too!

Gabby N.

Yelp
The Primo's employees were so kind! I came into the shop for the first time for a large group order, and they were happy to give me suggestions on donut orders and answer my questions about the different types. They also have vegan donuts as well as gluten free, but no both vegan/gf ones quite yet. Donuts were very high quality and delicious!

Hannah M.

Yelp
I was so excited when Primos came to Westwood village. I especially like their buttermilk logs which if you get fresh are probably one of the best donuts in the world. They have the perfect amount of glaze and have a cake like consistency that isn't too thick but very satisfying. Their chocolate old fashioned donuts are another stand out with thick and rich cocoa flavor and a buttery donut base they pair perfectly with your morning coffee. Primos doesn't sell your average plain coffee either, they stock Stumptown roast. They have an espresso machine for lattes and cappuccinos so you aren't limited to just drip coffee or cold brew. Their cappuccinos are my favorite and their is rarely a wait so it's a great high quality coffee option if you are in a rush in Westwood. Overall I highly recommend this donut shop for a delicious donut and gourmet coffee.

Mike B.

Yelp
Perfect neighborhood doughnut shop. The best part of this shop is that there is nothing fancy about it. The whole focus is on provide a great selection of fantastic doughnuts. The doughnuts are made fresh, on site, daily. They will definitely be seeing me again.

Lisajo M.

Yelp
Best Apple Fritter I've ever had! So delicious; texture, crunchy, soft, favorable apples, yummy cinnamon perfectly cooked. Wow, so yummy it made my heart smile. Amazing staff, pleasant, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. The store is very inviting (with the smell of goodness in the air) and clean. While in Westwood one must stop in for a treat or two. My new favorite donut shop.

Shawn T.

Yelp
Gotta love a good donut! We have been going to their other location for a while, so happy there is now one closer to home. Lots of choices and always fresh. You have to go early if you want your pick because they tend to run out very quickly!

Cynthia J.

Yelp
I miss Stan and his donuts. I was reluctant to try this place because I figured it couldn't compare to Stan's. Well, that may be BUT this is still a good donut shop! The donuts we had were delicious and so fresh. When we mentioned to the server that this was our first time at the shop, she tossed in a free donut, which she explained was one of the shop's specialty donuts. The place also looked clean. The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that I think the prices are a bit high. Still, we will return!

Michelle L.

Yelp
Yesterday was my first time stopping in at Primo's Donuts in Westwood :) ! The employee who helped me choose my donuts was super nice and friendly :D !! I really liked his customer service :) !! The donuts are pretty simple, but delicious :) !! Just like so many girls love getting that baby blue jewelry box from Tiffany & Co, I love getting my baby blue box of Primo donuts in Westwood :D !! For sure, I will be coming back while I am still in the Westwood area :D !!

Johnny C.

Yelp
Very good donuts. Highly recommended. I had the cinnamon, the chocolate and the peanut. They were all good. The staff is friendly too.

Mila M.

Yelp
I went in today because a man was following me around Westwood. The girl working behind the counter was so sweet and let me stay while I called for help. I didn't get her name but she was the best, very pretty brown hair and freckles. They also have vegan donuts. I love primo's donuts

Judy T.

Yelp
Been a forever fan and customer of the OG Primos on Sawtelle. Awesome family and great neighborhood spot. Serving up delicious donuts to the community. Nice to see them in Westwood taking over the cute corner storefront. Picked up a cinnamon cake donut. Simple and tasty. The shop is so cute with some sweet tables to sit, snack and sun. Nice addition to the village!

Madie D.

Yelp
So happy to have a donut shop back in Westwood :) The blueberry sprinkle raised donut was soft and delicious and had the perfect ratio of icing to donut. It paired nicely with a Stumptown Coffee oat milk latte. The interior is bright and cheerful and all of the staff seems super friendly. 10/10 recommend!

Arecia S.

Yelp
Donuts are basic. Came since the reviews were good, but for the price they aren't worth it. Wasn't expecting to pay $13 for 4 donuts.

Brian W.

Yelp
Seems a little pricier than the OG location, but that's what you pay for the primo location in Westwood, including the beautiful clean decor and the cliche white tiles. Donuts are still as good as always, although maybe they don't seem quite as fresh as the original, maybe because there's less turnover here? The raised glazed twist seemed a tad on the dense side too.

Karl G.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended by a friend in the area. Came here after dinner and ordered a dozen donuts to try as many as possible. The staff was super friendly and helped us pick out a great selection. They even gave us a few complimentary donut holes! Our select favorites were definitely the buttermilk bar and apple fritter. Will definitely be back in the early morning to try them freshly-made!

Riggie E.

Yelp
A1 Service, a wide assortment of donuts to your hearts desire! I ordered a Ham and cheese croissant and made to perfection! Cheese was gooey with the ham cooked along with it! The Coffee was Bomb, i ordered a macchiato that was excellent, they definitely cater to your taste and the Ladies that worked there were very attentive and genuinely there for your every need! I definitely recommend coming to Primo's donuts for great food and coffee!! Claire ask for her!

Francis A.

Yelp
Totally support this doughnut shop as it sells delicious fresh doughnuts, but today wasn't a good day for the filled doughnuts. Bought a dozen doughnuts and everything tasted amazing, but as you can see this doughnut isn't really filled as there's barely any filling in it. Their Cinnamon Roll is delightful and heavenly!!!

Stoney S.

Yelp
Solid donuts and just stick to that. Drinks and shakes are mid. Staff are consistent and nice

Ani A.

Yelp
I used to live across Stan's back in the day, so I was crushed to see a new donut shop today!!! However, YUM! I approve!!!!!!! I got the vegan blueberry and it was delicious! Perfect amount of sweetness :) The guy that helped me was also very friendly! I approve!!!!!! Great donuts & great service!

Marisol A.

Yelp
Move over DeeDee Reese, there is a new sweet spot in town. I was glad to see this place being taken over by Primo's as I am a fan of their original location. Donuts here are amazing and fresh. They aren't cheap but then again, this is a quality product and that's what you are paying for. If you are a student they do offer a discount so get your IDs ready. This is an affordable splurge in Westwood and the variety is fire. The buttermilk is honestly large enough to split between two people and the coffee here is also amazing. My coworker loves the maple bacon donut here that always sells out. Do yourself a favor and stop on by if you haven't yet.

Jamie L.

Yelp
I love this place. Whenever I crave for something sweet, I go this place. Staff is amazing. They are all nice and friendly.

Samantha A.

Yelp
Sooo good. I ordered a vanilla latte it was perfect and the donuts are bomb. Great customer service. Highly recommend !!

Blythe S.

Yelp
It took me a while to warm up to them. They do raised donuts better than cake donuts in my opinion and I mainly go for cake donuts usually. HOWEVER! I became a BIG fan of them once they started making Primos Peanut Butter Bannana and Peanut Butter Nutella Banana pockets in homage to Stan, who made similar donuts in this same location for decades before retiring. Primo's pockets were delicious and, dare I say, even better than the previous business's version. I tried to go back the next Saturday though to get more of them and was told they don't make the pockets every day. Maybe if enough people start asking about them they will?

Jo R.

Yelp
Yes!! We finally have a donut shop again in Westwood! It was tough to lose Stan's Donuts, which was a bit of an institution around here, but we got a very fine replacement in Primo's Donuts. The donuts are nice and fluffy, and very tasty. I love the maple bacon bar and the glazed buttermilk. Looking forward to trying all the other flavors, as well as the coffee. And I would love it if they started selling a Reese's Peanut Butter Pocket (aka the "Huell Howser") as a nod to Stan's. That would make it perfect.

Iman M.

Yelp
Wednesday afternoon. It is my routine. Stumbling through the door I humbly enter Primo's. They know me. Greeted with warmth and love I am reminded that I am home. Three to four donuts is the routine. Sometimes 5 if I skipped breakfast. I try a new donut every time I stop by, but I always get the butterfly and the jelly donut. I can't stop. Don't take it from me. Just go in there and find out. Forgot to mention it, but Tali is the sweetest, kindest soul. She always remembers my orders and asks about my day. Donuts and friends. Doesn't get better than that.

Daniel S.

Yelp
I love donuts and always try to sample well-regarded donuts wherever I go. I tried Primo's famous glazed buttermilk donut and it didn't do it for me. It was dense, dry, and overall lacking in flavor. Maybe it's because I went around 3pm in the afternoon; or maybe this donut just isn't for me. Alas, I'll look to allocate my calories elsewhere...

Eddie B.

Yelp
Great donuts ! Staff here are always super friendly and donuts are made fresh. We've tried the flavored frosted, chocolate bars, and my favorite the maple bars. All were great and fresh every time.

Cami M.

Yelp
Very sweet girl at the counter helped me out! I just think there is nothing special about these donuts. They didn't taste great. They tasted a little below average.

Keith S.

Yelp
Last few times the donuts have been underwhelming. Typically a family hit, these last few times the kids didn't have more then one bite and most of the donuts were left untouched. Not sure what's going on. The sawtelle primos has always been amazing. 3 stars for now. Will try a few more times

rr M.

Yelp
Delighted to see this legacy family with vintage donut shop experience in west LA has expanded to another familiar area for me- Westwood Village! The donuts are same recipe as their other shop so that = good. My favorite is old fashioned maple, their twist are melt-in-your mouth delicious if you get them warm, and their blueberry donut. I highly recommend a visit while doing your Westwood visits and chores.

Alex A.

Yelp
While i do miss Stans i have to admit Rice Flour Vanilla was outstanding. Friendly service and patient as well, will come back no doubt!!
