Texas A&M University Campus: Where to Eat and Drink Around TAM | Eater Austin

"Tucked into the Republic Steakhouse, this College Station wine bar has its own identity. The diverse selection of Californian, European, and Latin American vintages is expected, as are the charcuterie and cheese boards. Still, Primrose Path mixes it up with Spanish and modern New American tapas. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Brandon Watson

Google
We love tapas and decided to check out Primrose Path on our first day in town. We sat at the bar and split a couple of dishes while each having a glass of wine. These might be the best French fries I have ever had. The lamb kefta was perfectly seasoned and the sauces are original and creative. We forgot to snap a picture of the Fromage Board, but it was thoughtfully done with a variety of cheeses and well-paired accoutrements. I can definitely see this becoming a regular haunt and a favorite stop on the way home from work.

Google
Pretty cool spot! I am knocking off a star because we didn't care for the crabcakes very much. My wife also didn't really care for the mixed drink menu options, but the other food items from here were done very well. Specifically, the bacon wrapped dates and the filet mignon empanadas! I will say that the service and atmosphere were on point.

Google
This place is incredible! The food/tapas are amazing! I highly recommend the Spanish ‘36 drink, and Tiramisu! Everything tastes like a delicacy! Love it all!

Google
Wow! Have been dying to try this place and finally did and it did not disappoint! Incredible food, atmosphere and service! Zachary “sweetness” was an amazing waiter and everything he suggested was top notch! Will definitely be back and cannot recommend this place more! You need to try the smoked gnocchi!

Google
It was good for celebrating our anniversary. The food was very good. My husband and I had a cheese board, 6 tapas, and two desserts for $129 which was perfect for us. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

Google
Excellent food, service and atmosphere! We met friends here for a light meal and drinks on Saturday evening. We made reservations so we were seated right away. Our server was excellent, checked in regularly without being overbearing. They had an extensive wine list and several interesting cocktails. Everything we tried was excellent and I apologize for not taking more pictures. We had six or seven different plates and they were all fresh and tasty.

Google
Update: Returned to learn menu has had an update. Easier to read and new items. I like it. You MUST ask for the Smoke Stack. Apple wood smoked version of a Manhattan or Old Fashioned. What a nose. Patron Chiles Tapas are really good. This ranks in the top tier of College Station dining establishments in my opinion. Great job guys. Love love this place. Our second year coming here for football games and our 3rd or 4th overall when in town. Jared the student bartender remembered us from last time. The menu of tapas is quite large - enough for anyone to find something they like several times over. Each tapas we have had was delicious. A creative and very receptive flavor profile to the palate. Good wine list as would be expected. And finally the interior atmosphere matched the food and bar wonderfully to complete the experience of being somewhere not in College Station (no offense College Station but it’s nice to have new experiences). Oh. And the bar tender staff are par excellence!

We celebrated our anniversary dinner here. We had outside reservations and the hostess was able to get us an indoor table which we appreciated since it was raining and it was cold. Our server Evan was outstanding. He was attentive and made sure our food came out perfectly timed. We ordered the patatas bravas (off menu special) and the potatoes came out soft instead of crispy. We shared our feedback and it was appreciated. The filet mignon empanadas and the truffle hanger steak are not to be missed. We enjoyed the red and white sangrias but preferred the red more. We ended our meal with the orange creme brûlée and chocolate pot de cream.

Yelp
My favorite place in college station! Incredible food. Tapas-style, so ordering lots of small plates is super fun. Doesn't feel like college station, which is awesome! The Alma Negra Malbec Blend wine, bacon wrapped dates, and the Forrest mushroom pizza are my favorites! But I've never tried something I didn't like.

Yelp
Great small plates, delicious and a feast for the eyes. Grace waited on us and made amazing recommendations!

Miyuki R.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in CS! Small plates and charcuterie are my faves! Always good service and atmosphere!!

Yelp
I been there for celebrated my boyfriend birthday foods excellent. Service was great. Nice restaurant and cozy atmosphere.

LaRhonda M.

Yelp
High top tables for tapas and wine inside or a wonderful patio to dine outdoors. I highly suggest reservations. The desserts are delicious also. The cheese board, garlic shrimp, steak, Mac & cheese and prosciutto wrapped asparagus were some of our favorites.

Amy L.

Yelp
Always love the experience. Great ambiance, attentive servers. Food is wonderful. Drink selection is great and everyone who works here very knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Actually we were at The Republic. It's always amazing! Can't beat the service and food is always the best!

Yelp
Came here with a party of 3 to celebrate a birthday. It was fun. The atmosphere was pleasant and we were well cared for. We tried a lot of the dishes. The cheese and charcuterie, the crab cakes were our favorite, but the shrimp, balsamic mushrooms, paella, ahi tuna, Tuscan steak, were all delicious. We had the "crianza" Red which paired very well, as well as the peach sangria. We were a little skeptical coming to a tapas place in College Station, but we need not have worried. It was a bit pricey, but for a special dinner it was perfect. We were able to sample so many dishes and we were well satisfied when we left.

Yelp
This place is beautiful. The shareable appetizers delicious. Service was excellent. Drinks and wine!

Rachel r.

Yelp
I think this place has a great ambiance. I have only ever had amazing service whether it be small or large group. And the truffle steak is just to die for! I also love all of their pizzas!
google avatar

Yelp
The place for tapas is not what to expect. This is a place for a drink and one tapa. Good to dinner after. The price is on the high end for what you get. I hope you consider going with you eyes open. Three tapas and two beers $60.00.

Yelp
Between our group of 5 we split these things: The Queen Margherita Pizza: kinda small but super delicious! We had to sub the pesto sauce for tomato sauce because of a tree nut allergy but still so yummy! The Mornay Mac & Cheese: INCREDIBLE! We all LOVED this!!! Super large portion size Roasted Brussels Sprout: INCREDIBLE!! I loved the flavor with the cherries! It was so fresh & flavorful! Burrata Caprese: super fresh & easy to share!! We loved this! Albondigas: these were delicious! Super filling & paired great with the Mac & Cheese! DRINKS: White peach sangria: so yummy & refreshing!!! Rain drops on roses: didn't love this as much!

Yelp
Wade and his team are great. Small serving items so you can sample lots of different things. The charcuterie boards are incredible and wine selection is great.

Yelp
Great place to celebrate graduations, birthdays, and anniversaries. Was not expecting the tapas to be so good. Loved the ambience inside and the wine wall in the back. Ordered the Calamari Fritto Misto and White Truffled Mushroom flatbread. Both were sooo good! Very fresh and the flavors were so unique. The batter that the calamari was fried in was really tasty and not dry. Loved the truffle oil that was used on the flatbread. Can't wait to try their other dishes. Also got the eternal odyssey drink, it was so light and refreshing!

Kimberly G.

Yelp
I love the food here. Nice, tapas atmosphere. Sometimes it gets loud but the service and food are always great.

Sandra M.

Yelp
I've been to Primrose Path many times and can not recommend them enough! The food and drinks are delicious and the ambience is great. If you sit at the bar, the bar staff is social and fun. This place is a College Station gem.

Lori H.

Yelp
WOOOOOW!!!! After eating at Primerose Path where everything on the menu looked delicious.... Grace, our bartender chose our courses for us. Grace was very knowledgeable about the menu AND the service she provided was fun and allowed us to have an amazing experience. While enjoying our meal, a big spill accident happened behind us. To our amazement the whole team jumped into action to clean up without a blink of an eye. This comes from the top in leadership. WE ARE RAVING FANS FOR LIFE!!!!!

Yelp
Stopped by on a recent "treat yo self" day not knowing what to expect! With no reservations, you can quickly grab a seat at the bar which is full service. The ambiance is definitely a "special occasion" kind of place but don't let that fool you; its a nice place to stop by for a drink as well. I tried two cocktails, one a special rose flavored & the other on the standard menu. Both were a bit on the sweet side for me and not quite as balanced as I had hoped. But the service was amazing. The bartender did double duty and was super professional. Food wise, it was okay. I've had better cheese boards but it gets the job done.

Morgan B.

Yelp
Great service and 10/10 food overall. I would recommend the gnocchi and the pita dip!
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
Everything I get here is always amazing. Every time I come to College Station I will eat here. The food is always amazing and so is the energy. My favorite cocktail is the Maximilian execution.

Courteney R.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. Delicious food, great ambiance, friendly staff, and good drinks. I normally get ~4 plates to share. Highly recommend the black truffle steak and the mushroom arancinotto. Everything else on the menu is great too.
google avatar

Tim V.

Yelp
Was there for a late dinner, it was overall a nice place with great staff. Had. few different plates, per the tapas style. I would say the food was a solid 7-8, nothing mind-blowing but still worth the visit.
google avatar

Maureen W.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible! The service was so far above and beyond, Faith and Brandon made our experience top notch, between their knowledge of the menu and their expert drink making it was truly a wonderful experience. The food was far beyond anything we expected and had such an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend Primrose, if you don't want to sit at the bar make sure you get a reservation because they are usually booked (and rightfully so!).
google avatar

Yelp
Food and wine were great. Ambiance nice but a bit loud. Service was good. It is a bit overpriced for portions but good food. Wine was very nice.

Yelp
Really gorgeous venue, brick walls, huge crystal chandelier, charming layout, and best of all, a crazy inviting menu that makes you want to order everything. Add in great bartenders and servers and you've got a winner. One thing they do that I love is your choice of wine in a 3 oz taster, standard 6 oz glass or by the bottle. So for half the price of a glass you can try 2 different wines. They've also got a very good craft beer selection and a nice selection of top shelf liquors (along with a creative cocktail menu). I ordered a cheese plate (lovely selection of high end cheeses with lovely Marconi almonds and fruit goo and crostini). Then I had steak with truffle butter and some sort of magical Brussel sprout dish. Brought home plenty of leftovers. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Fantastic! What a rare find and so refreshing. Everything was exquisite. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food, great drinks. This is a total gem in this town.

Yelp
Great place for tapas and drinks! Service was wonderful (our cups were never empty!). The brussels sprouts were very crispy, which I liked, and the gnocchi was creamy + had good flavor from the smoked pork belly. The steak was cooked a lot more than I would have liked (between medium well and well done). I really liked the truffle butter though! The cinco leches was one of the best parts of our meal (not pictured bc we dug in). The cake was so moist and the berries were macerated with some sort of liquor which really elevated the dish.

Yelp
Simply great place to enjoy for any special occasion. Our server, Grace, was simply marvelous and very detailed. I love their signature cocktails and they offer vegan options for me and my life partner. It is her favorite restaurant. Definitely come and enjoy.

Bobby C.

Yelp
Always incredible food and a great dining experience. I've gone for many special occasions and it has been a consistently memorable and positive event.

Yelp
Primrose Path is an upscale place where you'll spend a few hours casually chatting with friends and family over tapas and wine. Tapas means snack or small portion, so--unless you have a small appetite--one plate will not make a meal. What you do get for your money is great food, beverage, service, and ambiance. Our family of 4 tried Primrose Path on a Thursday night. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our table was near the door, and we had no trouble hearing each other throughout the evening. The space is warm, modern, and welcoming. Since it was our first time here, our waiter suggested the number of dishes that likely would satisfy us. When we couldn't decide which chardonnay to order, the manager brought us several samples so we could choose. Very nice. We ordered the fried goat cheese, Catalan crab cakes, fried mozzarella bocconcino, patatas bravas, and chile rellenos. Our waiter told us the food would come out 1-2 plates at a time, which was perfect. He also checked in on us periodically and filled both water and wine glasses. The food itself was delicious. We decided to splurge on dessert and ordered the churros and chocolate pots de creme. These also were delicious. We'll definitely be back when we visit the family members who live here, and they plan to make this their 'special night out' place.

Yelp
In College Station solo on business. Good sign when a place is 3/4 full on a random freezing Tuesday. The Hilton hotel on University St. is half a block's walk. The gnocchi w/ smoked pork belly dish ($17) was amazing and perfectly portioned for one. I left feeling refreshed rather than bog-down full. Grace and Erica at the bar were very welcoming, attentive, and knowledgeable about all the offerings. Comprehensive wine and cocktail list. Looked like 10-ish beers on tap. Very trendy decor without being pretentious. Would happily treat my wife here for a special occasion or random kid-free night!

Yelp
Every time I come here, I try a new plate and I am never disappointed! For food options, definitely try their Albondigas and dip the focaccia di Parmagiana in the left over sauce! The paella, smoked gnocchi, filet mignon empanadas and truffled mushroom arancinotto are all to die for as well. As for drinks, the Lady Primrose is very refreshing if you like gin. If you have room for dessert, their dessert drink Key Largo actually tastes like Key Lime pie and it's a must try! I can't wait to go back and try more of their food.

Lyndsey R.

Yelp
I made reservations to eat dinner yesterday with my daughter and I am so glad I did. If I could give more than five stars I would. The drinks and food were spectacular and so flavorful. Lots of fun things to try and share. But our experience was over the top because of our waiter Austin. He was excited about describing the menu options when we asked his opinion between different plates to choose. He had terrific suggestions and was so kind and nice to us. We eat at a lot of restaurants but an experience like last night is rare to have a server who just makes your day better.

Yelp
Primrose Path is a hidden gem you'd more likely find in the big city. Its elegant decor is inviting and the more casual feel makes you want to stay awhile. The staff is young but very knowledgeable and they want to make everything perfect. The food are mainly small sharables and some or our faves are the gnocchi, steak with truffle butter, garlic bread, charcuterie board, shrimp risotto, among others. Its a fun place to sit awhile and share food with friends. Everything we have had has been wonderful. It will become your new favorite place.

Kara C.

Yelp
Beautiful, intimate atmosphere with delicious drinks and food. Great for a GNO! Don't forget to make a reservation as it can be very busy.

Steve R.

Yelp
Perhaps the worst experience in College Station. Keep in mind, there are about 45 great days to eat ouside in this town. I went to Primrose on a rainy, humid night, and I did have reservations. I was surprised to be ushered out to the "patio." It was dark, and the humidity was about 90%. When I went to mention my concern, the hostess rolled her eyes & was rude. Later, I saw someone who looked like a manager visiting with her. Very inconsiderate and careful not to look outside. The next two parties that arrived outside lasted about 3 minutes outside, and then went back in. Putting people outide in bad weather is not an oversight. It is 100% obvious intention to fill empty seats. To compound the miserable time, the waitress limited herself to about 4 visits to our table. I really don't blame her. The weather was simply gross. I will never go back, and I will never recommend. The correct resolution would have been to ask us to wait inside for the next available table or go to the bar to eat.

Ken S.

Yelp
I had never been to Primrose Path, nor will I ever again. The atmosphere was way too snooty for me. I like to feel welcome when I walk into a restaurant, not like they are doing me a favor serving me. The food was very expensive for tasting mediocre. After $50 per person, we all left the table still hungry. If you are hungry, keep looking. This is not the place for you!
google avatar

Scotty S.

Yelp
I came here with a friend. Overall nice place, but incredibly busy for an mid-week evening. TBH, I wasn't too impressed w the food. The waitstaff and owner were attentive and helpful.

V W.

Yelp
Great food with excellent service from our server. The only improvement will be having a more welcoming hostess when we check in.
google avatar

Maddie H.

Yelp
yum yum yum! love this tapas restaurant. great service. limited ish seating and can busy! good atmosphere and has outdoor seating too. everything here is delicious. Literally can't go wrong. Highly recommend. Pricey side but worth it.

Yelp
Such a fun place! Perfect spot for date night. Service is always great. Food is delicious. Our favorites so far are: burrata caprese, filet mignon empanadas(best thing on menu!), Tuscan steak and four cheese ravioli. We tried others, but these are our favorites and ones we order every visit.

B R.

Yelp
I'm impressed across every aspect of our dining experience. Service was knowledgeable, attentive, and personable. Cocktails were very good. Shared nearly 20 of the small plates amongst our group and every single one was interesting and delicious. Planned to finish with desserts and aperitifs but afterwards we were tempted by the impressive scotch whisky selection and had to cap off the night with a round of small pours. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
Just had drinks. The bartender was great. We had signature cocktails and were very pleased.
google avatar

Madelyn D.

Yelp
We got a formage board and some signature cocktails and everything was wonderful! The combinations of flavors were paired very well on the board. I recommend the lady primrose drink.

Cara A.

Yelp
I would consider my husband and I foodies for sure. We love trying new things and we love GOOD food. We did a random date night and I highly recommend this place, especially if you're one that loves trying different things. Every dish we had was delightful. We had a hard time picking our favorite of them all. We had a filet dish, shrimp dish, truffle mushroom dish, and a pesto pasta dish. We also had a cocktail each. I got my norm (a dirty martini) and it was made perfectly which I usually have issues with. My husband had a drink that is similar to an old fashion. It was also delightful. Super smooth. Of the food, my husbands fav dish was the pasta, and mine was a close call between the pasta or shrimp dish. Our waitress was super helpful and patient with our decision-making haha. She helped recommend things and talked through each dish. I loved that the dishes were almost like appetizers so you can try a bunch of dishes and not get stuffed off of one. Each dish is around $16 unless you get the more expensive selections. The vibe was great. My only complaint was it was noisier than I was expecting. But, I had someone tell me it was a quiet place so that's what I was expecting. Had I not been expecting a quiet sit-down, it wouldn't have bothered me. It wasn't loud, just not a quiet place. You can make a reservation online. While I was at work I put in for us to get a table and we got one for 8:00 pm. This was on a Monday, though. So weekends, I'm sure, are pretty busy. We will 100% be back to this place!

Yelp
A great addition to CS/B! It's a cute wine bar with a nice selection of wine and good food. As with the Republic, the decor is done nicely and it has a elegant and cozy feel. Selection for wines by the glass is decent and the bottle selection was even better (some were pretty pricey). We had cheese board, mushroom arancini, grilled shrimp, daily special risotto, black spaghetti, and dessert along with glasses of wine. Everything tasted good but was pretty small and simple. For example, shrimp tapas was maybe 8 or 10 small to medium size shrimp simply grilled with butter and lemon. Spaghetti didn't have any protein. So they were great as tapas (with an exception of the mushroom arancini because there was only one and did not feel like a "tapas" to share and enjoy with friends) but didn't feel like a meal with a number of plates we ordered and $$ paid. Servers were nice but they had this "all three bartenders will be serving you" arrangement, which at times resulted in sporadic checking in (for example, someone checking on us right after someone else did). They could answer some questions about wines but did not appear to be too knowledgeable. It was pretty loud and we could hear every conversation of the couple next to us. They have a nice patio but the waiter/bartender did not know if dogs would be allowed. Overall, it is a great wine bar with good snack food. We personally like great bistros with good wine selections, so it didn't trump our favorite bistro across the street. But we will definitely come back.

Yelp
This place is so amazing! The food, the service........absolutely impeccable. I'm from Vegas and have to say the food is right up to par with the upscale restaurants. Thank you for an awesome menu variation and comfortable environment.

Yelp
Everything was stellar. Paella, gambas, tuscan steak, parmesan bread, & burrata. Beautiful. Great service from Brandon. Will be back soon, highly recommend.

Yelp
Outstanding first visit. We have been going to "new" Republic (and old) for years. This place is attached to "new" Republic. We are kinda of kicking ourselves for not visiting here before tonight. Great menu and outstanding staff. I love the Tapa style theme. We had the cheese & charcuterie board (very generous serving), fried goat cheese, mornay mac & cheese and black truffle butter steak (wow!). For dessert the churros and blackberry empanadas (another wow!).

Yelp
This is a breath of fresh air in the BCS food/bar market. The cozy atmosphere is intimate and I recommend sitting at the bar to enjoy the attentive wait staff, easy access to drinks and tapas tapas tapas. There is a wide variety of them (though I wish there were a few more vegetarian options--there are Brussel sprouts, Pommes frites and Mushrooms). Check out the unique craft cocktail menu and grab a good old box of matches on the way out the door. Kudos to this place.
