Beautiful pub with fine beers on tap and a tasty Sunday Roast. Disappointed with the laughably small size of the portion for £30 though. See pic (there are two other small pieces of potato under that beef). A friend speculated that the small portions were on account of us arriving a little later in the day (around 3pm) but I’m not convinced it was about the time of day.

Great place with fantastic food. We sat right by the fireplace and it was super cosy. Beautiful decor and friendly staff. But it was the food that was amazing - super tasty and freshly prepared. I had sausage and mash which was so tasty but event the cabbage and samphire were a hit! I could have had a plate of just the cabbage it was so good. We are already planning our return visit.

I had a burger and fries with a gluten free burger bun! Really pleased because I thought I’d have to have it with no bread. Very friendly service. The fish and chips are good too (especially the chips). My mum had the Orzo and feta salad (pictured).

Without a booking I was able to be seated right away which was nice! I ordered the sunday roast with pork belly which was delicious. The potatoes were extremely rich in flavor, the carrots had the ideal texture and a smooth taste, the yorkshire pudding was crispy and delicious but of course the gravy stole the show. It tied all the different foods on the plate together so well. I had some trouble signalling the staff for the bill but that was not a big deal, the experience was wonderful and I would return again

We booked our Christmas lunch with trepidation. So pleasantly surprised by the warmth of Cormack & the team on the day. Most important, the meal was excellent. Hot, juicy, well cooked, portions amazing.Atmosphere was just right, being Xmas Cormack had agency staff but he managed to lead them with aplomb & deftness. We were warmly embraced on this special day. We are so glad we chose the Prince Albert. We will be back to be welcomed by Cormack as if we belong. Thank you & the team

My pint glass runneth over with Youngs Original (AKA Ordinary, a very fine pint). A proper old school boozer close to Warwick Avenue tube station. Small public bar and snug on the corner, divided from the dining room by wood panels with hinged access doors. We ate excellent fish and chips / bangers and mash. Comfort food at a realistic price. Met the kindest most helpful bartenders a couple weeks ago! Justine and Rhianne on the bar with Eva in the restaurant was really the dream team. Justine helped me find the perfect ipa whilst rhianne guided me through the wine list for my wife! Eva was very attentive and brought our scotch egg out with ease! What a relief to go into a pub without a big TV screen throwing sport at me. A feeling of stepping back in time and enjoying the elegance and ambience of surroundings that modern developers would have ripped out. One can imagine drinking with the ghosts that must exude from the old wood dividers and panels and discussing perhaps the siege in Sydney St or the sinking of the Titanic. But to come up to date; it's a good working pub that suits all tastes and a restaurant that serves a popular menu that is not too expensive. The Prince Alfred, more than a pub, a London landmark - an institution !

My buddy lived in London for a few months in London and recommended this bar for a drink. It is a little out of downtown, but a great walk. There is a subway station nearby if you want to take the tube. The place use to have sections where depending on your class, you would sit and have your libations. Very cool. The bartender was nice enough, but the atmosphere was top notch. Make sure to go to the basement to check out the bathrooms. It is pretty cool down there.

The staff though busy, are friendly and the service is prompt. -------------------------- Came by here with friends for dinner on NYE'21 in the dining room. We had a great time, the staff were really friendly, food was great, large portions and the drinks were great too! The menu has a couple of good options for vegetarians - Breaded brie was the star of the table. - Baked camembert, wild garlic pesto, beer sourdough, crudite quickly become another favorite! - Spinach, pea & watercress soup, toasted campaillou, pumpkin seeds was delicious too. ------------------------- As they do a seasonal menu, we sadly couldn't find the breaded brie on the menu anymore. -Irish soda bread and marmite butter, the bread was full of flavour but the butter seemed like plain/garlic butter butter rather than marmite. -Burrata and Nutbourne tomato salad, croutons, wild garlic pesto was absolutely yummy and filling! -Beetroot and freekeh wellington, carrot puree, steamed rainbow chard, gravy , the pastry on the wellington was really good, however the filling could do with a little more flavour. Though slightly expensive than your average pub, it is definitely worth a visit if you are even in the area!

Went here for lunch the other day and it was empty. Pretty good menu of sandwiches, served on toasty bread. Also a good chicken ham and leek pie. Bright dining room with lots of dark wood and plenty of large tables. Also a more exciting cocktail menu than your average pub, with 4 different kinds of G&T. Overall the food was decent, service was excellent, atmosphere was excellent. Great pub.

What a pretty, pretty pub!! I finally understand what Ashley meant about tiny little doors! I like them (even though I was worried that I'd hit my head!!) We have a friend who lives around the corner from here, so we wandered in for a drink after spending all day outside in the sun (as soon as the sun went in, we became cold, and in need of drinkies!!) Apart from the pubs good looks, it was great because: * I love all the little compartments to divide up drinkers * The staff were speedy and friendly * The food smelled lovely * A previous review said it looks unremarkable...but I thought it looked beautiful! I like the frosted glass pattern, the pretty ironwork and light, airy space (although I suppose this would be less impressive if it was a cloudy, grey day!!) **I should probably mention that I was in a reeeally good mood....so I may have had a rose-tinted and tipsily happy view of the world when I visited this pub!!

Started out NYE 2012 here, and went several other times past that. What a great, friendly, amazing, gorgeous pub. Made several friends here, and had a BLAST of a New Year's Eve. The little sections divided up by wood and short doors were allegedly were businessmen brought prostitutes - and who among us does not find that fascinating. The gorgeous front windows - etched glass sinuously winding around the front - has NEVER been broken in all the years this pub has been here. Well over 100 years without a break. Yanks could take a lesson from the Brits in taking care of their stuff.

If you have time, go there. 4 star decor, beer selection, food, and service at a bar 2 star service at a table Bathroom is outside, so make sure to ask where it is. Don't bother to look for it yourself. They gave us beer right away when we were waiting at a bar waiting for a table. As soon as we sat down, we waited and waited...finally waitress came to our table. From the 2nd beer, we just went to the bar and brought it back to the table. So, I recommend to go order directly at the bar. We ordered beef pie, and it was excellent. Nothing like the one I had in the U.S. They get it from the restaurant next door called Movember.

Very unusual Victorian Young's pub located in Maida Vale, north west London close to Warwick Avenue tube station and Little Venice. The exterior of The Prince Alfred is rather unusual, consisting of wood and etched glass. Inside, it is very quirky indeed, made up of a series of wooden booths with miniature doors connecting one to the next! Moving around the pub is a little like moving around a submarine, ducking low in order to pass through bulkhead doors! The ceiling is high, with chandelier type lighting hanging down. The bar itself is of a fine wooden design with a high gantry which reaches almost up to the ceiling. A clock is incorporated into the design. A very interesting pub indeed and well worth a visit!

The Cumberland sausage and mash was great; the fish and chips is great with the mashed peas getting unique zest from mint and the banoffee tart was sublime. Service was attentive friendly and prompt. Recommend it highly.

What a beauty. I have to take my (proverbial) hat off to this pub. Why? Because it is exceptional. Why? Because it's like the "shire" meets Oliver Twist! Old British heritage neatly displayed in a compact yet spacious establishment. High ceilings, oak bar, ornate windows and teeny tiny doorways that make you feel like you have stepped into Lewis Carroll's fantastical world. If I wanted to share this I would probably say that I highly recommend it, that it's not to be missed and it's one of the best pubs that I have ever had the pleasure of frequenting, but as I don't want to share I didn't say a word.

Seemed like a fun place to go. Went in as the people immediately demanded for ID. When I handed it to them, they they told me it was fake and said the only way they would serve me was with a passport. The manager told us that they could buy an ID off any street corner therefore, he wouldn't take ours. We went to the Warrington Hotel down the street. They were much friendlier and took our IDs without question.

Tiny little doors always get one star! A great local pub on a really cool little street. Grabbed a cider and sat outside at these high tables in the spring sun, aahhhhh. It's right on the corner so you can people watch in this interesting part of town. Kind of out of the way from me but it seems like a great local to hangout in.

Went to the Prince Alfred for dinner in the Formosa dining room. The decor of the bar is very nice, and the staff serving us were very polite. The food was good - a little expensive but good none-the-less. This is why I'm giving the place 3 vs 4 stars. I had the lentil soup to start and the steak and ale pie for the main. I would consider coming back here again if I was ever in the area.

A really cool quaint pub situated in Maida vale, nice quirky partitioned rooms that require you to duck down and crawl into each one. The decour is unremarkable but the atmosphere on a Friday night is friendly and welcoming. A average selection of drafts and one or two real ales. The restaurant seats plenty and a large portion of the guests look like what one would assume Maida vale locals look like. We had the lobster and ribs at a very reasonable £30. The lobster was a little small but the ribs very tasty. If I lived in the area, this place would definitely be on my local list.

Nice restaurant on the inside, but service wasn't fantastic, (to say the least) and gratuity was already added on. Also, one of the restaurant staff recommended the "Crab Burgers" which are apparently the restaurant's special according to the menu. DO NOT ORDER THESE! They cost £16.5, and barely have any crab in them. Because it's deep fried, when I bit into the burger I couldn't taste any crab, just a deep fried chunk. From what I understand, they have nothing else to do with cheap buns and minuscule pieces of deep fried crab.

Right down the street from our place, the Prince Alfred is a favorite and we are waiting for it to open again. I saw one of the managers that used to work here working in a pub nearby, so not sure if that means they are going to be shut for a prolonged time, but we are definitely missing our neighborhood pub.

A bit hit and miss. Beautiful pub, with traditional snugs, nicely re-decorated dining room, and a good selection of ales and ciders, with some choice of soft drinks, such as Fentimens or standard juices. Staff were friendly and very helpful, although not entirely well informed; when asked if the meat was free-range we were told it was not, although the management later told us it was (great!). Foodwise; glad to see they no longer serve Fois Grais; poor on veggie options, although the one option did sound lovely. The presentaion of everything we ordered was lovely, but quality wise, not all worth the rather high price: The olives were overly salty, but that's a matter of personal choice. The scallops were perfectly cooked and glorious, as was the hake. The 'confit of duck' was just a rather tough, dry duck leg, rather than fat stored, slow-cooked, fall off the bone confit. One of our party ordered chips and proclaimed them the best they have ever tasted, whilst parsnips served in the veg side were dry and withered. The giant yorkshire pudding, was impressive looking but dry and chewy, rather than crisp and tasty. Overall expensive for food that was a bit like a practise run. £16.50 for the hake, whilst lovely served with a crab butter, is a little steep when it only comes with 4 halves of new potate and you have to pay and extra £3.50 for dried out veggies to make it substantial. Made more dissapointing by a visit the previous evening to the exceptional Grain Store at Kings Cross, which charges a similar price, but to a consistant & much higher standard.

This pub is a friend's local and worth visiting for their decent selection of real ales. If you are in a small group and wish to have privacy, look no further: they have retained the old wooden partitions that separate the bar from back in the day where the working class sat in different sections to the middle class. I think there were 3 or 4 sections in all.

The Prince Alfred is a charmer! Original curved and frosted Victorian glass windows and partitions, killer backbar woodwork full of architectural details and flourishes and those historical partitions with the 'duck under' passageways. I've gotten two different answers on the origins and they are probably both true to some extent. The first answer was that the partitions separated the classes drinking in the pub. The main entrance on the corner was for the livery men and the private entrances to the sections were for the gentry. A second version told of prostitutes gathering in the front and bankers (why bankers? I dunno. Just relaying the story) would take the woman into the privacy stalls. Whatever the story, the relics of history give the pub some additional cache. One quirky outcome of the interior layout is that there is no interior access to the toilets. You have to go outside to the door by the restaurant (separate entrance). The staff here is friendly as are the patrons who range in age from young singles to neighborhood regulars and professionals. It's very close to the Warwick Avenue Tube Station and is well worth checking out.

Cute pub- it has walls diving throughout the pub - supposedly, they were class dividing walls in old days. Drink on the menu is what you would expect from London pub. Nothing disappointing but nothing great. The dinning room adjacent to the pub has a full dinning menu with quite long list of wine by glass. The good just does the job- nothing to praise about but not too bad also. If you happen to be in the area - why not try?!

I love this pub- when we can actually manage to find a seat! The interior is stunning, with their little hobbit doors and gorgeous wood class dividing walls. It's great going during the day or on a slow weekday night, sitting by the fire, and playing scrabble! But trying to go on a Friday or Saturday night? Forget it!

I was staying at the Colonnade next door and the concierge recommended this spot. Walking by it looked totally empty and I took it as a bad sign, but when we walked in it was packed (the pub side). Funny how when we sat down, more people started to flock into the restaurant side. I had the potted brie as an app, and the foie gras burger after. I asked if I could have my burger au poivre, and it totally threw the waitress off. She kept running back and forth to the kitchen trying to describe what I was talking about (russian language barrier I guess) and I even wrote "au poivre" on a sheet of paper so she could show whomever she was trying to explain it to. A short while later the chef comes out to our table, and by now, I'm thinking maybe I should have just taken it as-is, to avoid any unwanted "spices" on my burger. The chef was polite and confirmed my request, and said he could do it no problem. My old lady had the foie gras and chutney as an app and the sea bass. Unless you like the UK version of sea bass go for it, otherwise I'd stick to something else. Not saying the sea bass here was bad, just that it's bad all over the UK, especially if you're used to how sea bass is in the US or Japan. The wine list here was decent and the rocket and parmiggiano salad was a good side. The wait staff was polite and went the extra mile and the chef came back later to check if everything was ok with my burger, which was pretty damn good. The slice of foie gras on top was generous and the burger was perfectly cooked.

Great neighborhood pub. I even learned a piece of British history on my first visit. Don't be put off by the partitions when you first walk in, just go with it. Overall it is a nice pub and the staff is very attentive. This will be my pre-going out spot.

What a perfect Sunday brunch spot, this pub and restaurant is extremely distinctive due to it's curious head bumping interiors. I'll leave you to Google the actual meaning of why the booths are divided by low wooden beams, my flatmate informs me that the Prince Alfred was a knocking shop, the partitions providing partial seclusion for the ladies to conduct their business. No idea if this is true or just one her yarns, but it certainly adds extra flavour to the Sunday roast, lying in a delicious wedge of plate-sized Yorkshire pud. God bless locals!

Had a really good pub meal in the Formosa Dining Room on a Saturday night. Three courses each for three plus a bottle of wine came to £110, good value for the quality. Particularly yummy was the steak & ale pie and the sticky toffee pudding. We'll be back!

From the outside you cannot appreciate how unique this little place is. When you enter you will see that the pub is split into lots of little booths - divided up by dark wood panelling. To enter different seated sections you have to literally duck down through little doors which mean your drink/ get together can be quite cosy an intimate. No great if you are looking for someone and have never been there before but excellent if you're having an affair, I imagine. I hear that the adjoining dining rooms do great food too.

I had a lot of good times here back when I was going to college and lived down the block. This Pub is set up with large area for the pub, as well as several sections that are separated by small doors for access. The Staff was always nice and made you feel like one of the group. On Friday or Saturday night, we would hang out in the main pub section with a bunch of the regulars from the neighborhood and have a good time. I made a lot of good friend here with other customers as well as the staff. I learned how to pour a proper Guinness here. Most weekend nights the party would continue at one of the customers flats near by and most of the staff would come too. On weeknights, I would sit in one of the smaller sections and study. The blonde guy from Starsky and Hutch would hang out here some times too. I have many fond memories of the PA. Very historical pub. I'm sure it has changed in the 10 years since I've been here, but will always thing fondly of it.

Two of us went to Formosa Dining Room on a Friday night in the summer, not too busy. We just ordered mains. Another couple were seated after us yet got their starters and mains ... and were almost done before we got our mains. Duck breast and haloumi were tasty enough but pricey for what it was. We shared a chocolate tart for dessert- it was the size your grandmother would ask for when ordering a small piece (ie, a thin sliver). Terrible value for money at £6.50. Waitstaff and kitchen were clearly struggling with organisation and although friendly and pleasant not attentive enough to customers. Overall complaint would be that it's poor value for money.

The Prince Alfred is a few minutes' stroll from Warwick Avenue tube station, in the heart of Little Venice and on the corner of villagey Formosa Street. The main entrance boasts Art Nouveau tiling, screaming I'm a listed building of historical interest. That historical interest continues in this eclectic bar which has original wooden partitioning, separating it into several intimate spaces, all with direct access to the bar. This all sounds interesting until you decide to pop down for a pint on a Friday night. That's when you have to elbow your way through the crowd which spills onto the footpath outside on warmer evenings. I do like the Prince Alfred for its eclectic interior and Real Local Pub vibe. It's always full of W9 dwellers and others who find it worth a trek across town to visit. However, you have to be in an energetic mood to enjoy it at its busier times and I'm afraid I'm just past the willing-to-drink-in-a-sardine-can stage of my life.

As I walked down a neighbourhood lined with silver maple trees that glimmered in the moonlight with a sultry evening breeze teasing my hair, I sighted the Victorian pub on an affluent corner of Formosa Street and Castellain Road. It struck me instantly that the etched glass, richly carved mahogany and engraved tiles gloriously lit by warm lamps skirting the span of the pub ought to be at least a century old. Stepping into the doorway, I observed the flattering old school cubicles. Curiously, they had more than just one doorway. The doors connecting the different cubicles were just about 3 feet tall, whereas a second bigger portal for each cubicle opened to the street outside. As I bent through the tiny doorway to make my way inside of the cubicle, a smiling waiter came to my service. I asked for a gin tonic and their bestselling main, at the same time learning that the small doorways were intended for servants to serve their masters back in 1856 whilst the different cubicles would accommodate different castes of people who would use their respective doorway to access the pub. I found it all very intriguing but my excitement dwindled down steadily with what was followed by a long wait coupled with low-key music I could barely discern. When I could finally divulge into their beautiful marriage of cod fillet with ratatouille, kale pesto and black pudding, I ordered a second drink on a whim- their famous Young's bitter ale and the traditional sticky toffee pudding, vanilla bean ice cream and salted caramel sauce. The drink and British gourmet food didn't disappoint, but the cheque for it all certainly did. Offering a glimpse into London in the 1800's, Prince Alfred lives up to its name, albeit not being the most vibrant of pubs.

This is the perfect London pub. The scotch eggs were amazing with a few good pints. The service was fantastic, the ambiance and decor are classic, beautiful Victorian style.

The Prince Alfred is one of my favourite pubs in Maida Vale. However, it's often quite packed and therefore hard to get a seat. The staff are always friendly and the pub interior is quite quirky.

Lovely restored Victorian pub with a great atmosphere. Have eaten here twice in the Formosa dining room at the back. It's not cheap but steak was great and a nice dining space.
