Prince Arthur

Lovely pub, slightly tucked away from Old Street Station. Probably one of my favourite places for a pint in the Old Street/Shoreditch area. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and it has a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. The outside area at ground level and upstairs is great for a warm evening! Finally, the decorations and artworks upstairs are constantly changing, making it as enjoyable as a cultural outing as it does a social one.

This pub has a vibe. A hidden gem almost too far to wander gives it a favoured local, secret to keep place feeling. Vintage semi-corner with heritage bubble glass windows, reclaimed wood cladding applied well for a rustic, loved in style. Games & street art set in an interesting companion to stripped plaster walls & heritage pieces from lighting to the bar corner pillar. Flea market, eclectic balanced decorations around a great fireplace enhance the strong character & relaxed personality. These influence the chilled, grounded, comfortable atmosphere. This pub is a vibe.

I hired the upstairs event room (with balcony) yesterday and had a great time. All the staff working were all really friendly and contributed to myself/guests having a great time. My friends all said this would be a pub they would come back to due to it having a nice vibe and lovely tacos!!

Such a great old boozer. Staff are really friendly and chatty, laid back atmosphere and they've just started doing amazing food with a pop-up out the front. The halloumi fries are delicious and the kababs are amaaaazing

Nice pub with lots of games and a chill vibe. Prices are quite ok tbh. We made ton of noise paying Pictionary and none batted an eye, so amazing times! They have a pop up kitchen -Crunch- hats off, everything was really good. The area is close to old street and there now but at the same time off the beaten path.

My local! Yes, I'm here. I have a local. Everything's been sorted! Truth be told, Prince Arthur, despite its great location in proximity to my home, was not a destination for me as it was a bit downtrodden looking. Beyond that, it was also a bit shabby, had a boring list of ales (fair enough) and an old owner/landlord that kept odd hours. Ie; not open Saturday night, but open Monday at 10am. Old crisps served out of tinfoil. Nasty toilets. You know, the usual kind of beaten down, old looking pub in a back corner of Hoxton. Not enticing. Then last spring -- voila, MAKEOVER! New landlord! New life! The whole thing was shut down for about a month and they gutted it, repainted, refinished, rethought the beer menu, hired some fun people and now its quite a happening place. It's not the most pristine location, but its passable. On a warm summer night who cares, right? They've got some rag-tag patio furniture set out and outside is outside. I like it. The staff has always been very friendly the few times we've stopped in, and they've got an upstairs room available for private hire that is always bustling. Some more interesting beers on tap, very passable loos, and well -- the whole operation has just been bumped up a notch! The crowd is always mixed with locals and the odd Shoreditch party goers, but things are pretty jovial and fun. It's lively without being obnoxious, never overly crowded and the staff handles the crowd well. Nice to have our real "local" as a viable option for a few beers. Prince Aurther, you're alright!

Visited this place for the first time today - didn't even know it existed but am so glad to have been introduced to it. I loved it's over all vibe and the fact you can grab a drink and drink outside is just perfect for these warming summer nights. The inside is very traditional British - low ceilings, large bar area, wooden furniture but I liked it! Would definitely return and give their food a try! Lovely pub, great location and friendly staff - can't ask for much more really!

Strong pub. Got that good local feel that you ain't getting in most of London. Not an east end hive of knobheads, not a wine bar of city suits - just a great pub, with a good range of ales and beers on tap & a strong selection of spirits. Log fire in the winter, tables outside in summer? Might as well!

Upon walking in to this local pub you will take a step back in time, or possibly, a trip to your neighbor's crappy finished basement. Tired, worn, red carpet with a bunch of gents throwing darts and putting down pints. An array of cask beers among other traditional draughts lined the rail. You have gain a respect for English pubs somewhere and this place will give you a good perspective to judge all others. The bar keep explained each of the cask beers vaguely categorizing by alcohol percentage. Fine by me I'll drink nearly any beer especially if its local to the area. His lack of knowledge was evident when we asked for something similar to an India Pale Ale. He deemed an IPA a "brand" of beer and not a style of beer. This seemed odd since IPAs were originally brewed in England in the 19th century. His credibility at this point was zero. We drank a couple pints and were on our way. To his credit he was a very nice gentleman. I enjoyed the pints and the experience of a local pub. There a so many places to choose from in the area this should be a last resort. Those folks that aren't locals may not be welcomed with open arms and the hours are apparently sporadic. On to the next.

Classic, old school pub a pubby pub, not a bar, with that same hallucegenic carpet that all pubs were seemingly refitted with at some point in the 60s or 70s, scuffed wooden bar, good ales, doorstep sandwiches, and a mix of locals and ersatz hoxton types. Very busy on sunny afternoons after work.

I used to go to this discreet pub hidden behind hipster Old St/Hoxton after work all time. Used to give us free beef sandwiches as we played darts and drank outside. Very local old style pub which I love to frequent. It's a good step away from the youth of the scene 5 mins away and a step back in time. We need to keep more of these places around however old it may appear in modern times.

Small old fashioned Shepherd Neame pub with a dartboard (the darts area takes up about a third of the pub!), close to the city in location only. This is another boozer that reminds me of visits to pubs as a child (I mean with my parents, rather than as some underage drinker). And that's a good thing. Busy during the week but has been closed whenever I've taken a look at weekends, which is a shame for me as it's when I'm most able to pop by, but I guess it's main business comes from local offices so it would be less busy on a weekend. I believe this place is a regular in the Good Beer Guide and well deserved too, the ale was top notch.

Its great to find a real pub in hoxton,this tiny house as had the same landlord for over thirty years,good well kept ales,sandwiches available lunchtime.(cheap)very clean house.not big enought for a pooltable,but a very keen darts house.shepherd and neame beers.its a real old hoxton pub and well worth a visit.

I was looking for a traditional English pub and did I ever find it! The owner told me he was just looking to open a quiet place to have a drink and he succeeded. But the secret is that they play really good music (including house music) at just the right volume. Go there.

My local pub next to the office friendly good prices and not full of pretentious idiots like a lot of the other pubs in the area! A proper pub with a real local feel my favourite :-)

Just been here for an engagement party. Small but intimate. Ordered some fine beer and was then told to try the upstairs as there was a private party up there, and lo and behold, I arrived. Clean, nice furnishings - bowler hat light fittings, funky artwork, but the main draw is the ale. A Shepherd Neame pub, with good ale on tap. Friday evening, not too busy, but pleasant boozer. Pity not my local.
