Princess of Wales Review - Camden - London - The Infatuation

"A Primrose Hill stalwart for many years, the Princess of Wales is one of those pubs that doesn’t look like it’s got any kind of outside offering. Downstairs though, right in the heart of the pub, there's a nice little patio area, with a slightly questionable faux-Banksy mural on the wall. This is a decent tip if you’re coming from the park and want a drink before heading elsewhere, and the food is of the consistent ‘classy pub grub’ variety." - Jake Missing

An unforgettable experience! Princess of Wales Theatre is absolutely stunning—elegant, clean, and perfectly organized. The sound and lighting were flawless, and every seat had a great view. Staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we walked in. Whether it’s a Broadway hit or a local gem, this venue delivers top quality every time. Highly recommend for a night out in Toronto!

Went to see the lion king and had a great time. Seats were ok and we were lucky to have AA1/2 seat so we didn’t have anyone beside us and had free access to the exits for washroom and exit at end of show. Thank you it was my second show in 33 years. A great place to go to and watch live theatre.

Google
I loved it 30 years ago and I still love it today. The seats are nice, cushioned in comparison to others and I had enough leg room to cross my legs. I have long legs at 5ft8. The productions are great and immerse you in the experience. Parking is on-site, underground and affordable. The staff are professional, knowledgeable hold themselves high. Makes you feel like you are somewhere fancy, adds to the experience. Drinks, snacks and clean washrooms!

Very nice performance theatre. Staff are efficient and professional. The whole operation seems very well executed. The building is in pretty good shape considering the age and traffic it receives. Ample bathrooms that are relatively well kept. Lots of concessions and pricing of such is somewhat palatable.

The Princess of Wales Theatre is a beautiful venue with no issues on the facility side. Staff were friendly and efficient during the entry and exit process, which I appreciated. However, the overall experience really depends on the crowd. I saw The Lion King, and while the production itself was stunning, I was seated beside a very distracting group and had a rude encounter with someone behind me who complained to staff about my bag rather than politely asking me directly. While it’s not the theatre’s fault, I’d suggest avoiding weekend shows or kid-heavy productions if you’re looking for a calmer atmosphere. Alternatively, choosing balcony seating might offer a more isolated and peaceful experience, it definitely looked like a better option for solo or quiet viewers.

Saw the Lion King here. It was a stunning venue. The lounges were beautiful but needed more seats for guests. Overall had a wonderful experience.

Google
Beautiful venue with great unblocked seating and impressive sound. The staff were all very polite and helpful with inquiries. Parking is nearby and was surprisingly reasonable for a weekend evening (paid $16 on a Saturday night, just a block away from the venue).

Google
Well its actually two things the theatre and the play as one have to experience both together. As for the play (Lion King) it was amazing and the such and wonderful job they did was breathtaking. It was mesmerising, the costumes, colours, light and music were fe nominal. And as for the theatre goes….. wall it’s time for an upgrade as to sit on those uncomfortable seats for almost 3 hours was a pain. The staff are not hospitable. It gives the feeling of the 90’s.

Yelp
I had the incredible opportunity to see the Lion King musical, and it truly exceeded all my expectations! From the moment the curtains opened, I was captivated by the amazing cast. Each performer brought an authentic energy to their roles, making the beloved characters come alive on stage. The costumes were nothing short of breathtaking. The creativity and craftsmanship involved in bringing the animals of the African savanna to life were impressive. The masks for Simba and Mufasa were particularly striking, beautifully representing the theme of the circle of life that is central to the story. The musical is extremely imaginative, using innovative staging and visual storytelling that transports the audience to the heart of the African landscape. The respect for culture is evident throughout the performance, showcasing traditional elements that honor the origins of this timeless tale. Without a doubt, The Lion King is the best musical of all time! It's a stunning fusion of music, dance, and storytelling that resonates with audiences of all ages. The experience left me in awe and filled with emotion.

Yelp
I have seen a number of musicals and shows at the Princess of Wales Theatres over the years. Specifically, I was a regular theatre attendee over a decade ago. I couldn't tell you why I stopped going. It took Hamilton, the musical, to get me back into the swing of things. I have been a fan of this production for a while. I have listened to the album version many times. I have also seen the Disney+ version of the musical. Princess of Wales Theatre, named after Princess Diana, had a ticket sale through the Mirvish site. I secured a ticket on a Friday in mid-July. It was heavily discounted and I ended up sitting in the third row, almost dead centre. Parking has changed over the years in the theatre district. I managed to find parking in a small lot a block north of this theatre. I was pleased. I had no problem filing in to this theatre. There was no security check. You basically show your ticket on your phone and a staffer will direct you to the proper entrance. I was seated in the orchestra section. I had the nicest usher direct me. I also got a program from her. The two women ultimately seated next to me were kind to stand up and let me get past them in the row to get to my seat. The musical was excellent. The only concern was one of the cast members being replaced after the first intermission. I hope that he was okay, but his backup did a fantastic job. I used the washroom before and after the show. There was no wait before the show. There was a bit of a wait after, though. There were many stalls, but the volume of folks needing to use them was more the issue. The women's washroom was in impeccable shape. The sink area was fun. It was like a waterfall. It was pretty. It may seem a bit unusual to folks who want a more practical hot and cold set of faucets. I wouldn't know whether the men's had a similar waterfall sink. I got a souvenir after the show. I don't have many shot glasses, so I got a Hamilton-branded one. I paid with a credit card. The woman at the counter was helpful and friendly. She wrapped my little glass shot glass in paper and then placed it in a small plastic bag. I thanked her and happily left the theatre. When you step out of the theatre and look down at the sidewalk, you'll see Canada's Walk of Fame. It was cool seeing inductees, from Monty Hall, to Wayne Gretzky. It was great returning to this theatre again and taking in a musical. I hope to do it again soon, but not over a decade later. (328)

Yelp
I have been attending numerous theatrical shows over the years at Princess of Wales Theatre. Every visit was always enjoyable. Not only the shows always top notch, the venue is stunning and the staff always professional. My latest visit was last week for Hamilton. Thanks all the staff and performers at Princess of Wales Theatre for the World Class experience!

Yelp
I actdually worked for the architect who built this building and LOVE seeing all the best musicals in the world - here is a shot from Hamilton last summer- but I need to take a star off for Yabu Pushelburg I cannot stand the colours of the interiors sorry- NOT FOR ME. But Thank YOU to all the amazing cast and crew and musicians at Hamilton- it wasnt as good as what I saw in person on Broadway but pretty stellar !

Yelp
I had the pleasure to visiting the Princess Wales theatre twice in the last couple of months, once for the musical, Hamilton and another time during a TIFF worldwide screening of Ezra. We opted for front or near front gallery/balcony seats, which is a decent spot for films due to the large screen but not ideal for musicals or plays as they make it hard to see facial expressions. Theater binoculars would be a handy addition for plays. The seats are cozy but don't offer much storage space in front, so be cautious with your belongings as people move in front of you to get to their seats. The staff as usual always pleasant and courteous. They kindly suggest checking outside food at their coat check for free during TIFF if they see you bringing outside food. However, there is popcorn and refreshments closeby outside to grab your snacks. Despite this, the seats themselves are quite comfortable even though they are close beside next person, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. We walked up multiple flights of stairs to get to the our seats and didn't find the elevators but from research there looks to be elevators in lobby to access all floors in the theatre if needed. There's ample amount of staff so you should be able to get assistance easily.

Yelp
We came here for opening night of Wicked! I just don't think this theater can handle its capacity. There are very limited washrooms and elevators. At intermission, I spent about 15 minutes waiting in line for the washroom which is a little tough when you're 34 weeks pregnant! Additionally, there is only one elevator and no stairs leading to the parking garage, so the exit to the theater got really crammed after the show, and again there was a really long wait to get to our car. If you're driving in for a show here, I highly recommend not parking in the garage below the theater for this reason. You're better off parking elsewhere and walking a little bit. Finally, it is located really close to the Blue Jays stadium so if there is a game the night of your show, you'll end up caught up in the game traffic on your way out.

Yelp
Last week, I attended this theatrical show, "Joseph and the technicolor dream coat" The play itself was very musical with great actors and dancers. I thoroughly enjoyed it with my family. It was on the more expensive side to what I deemed the show to be worth. Though, I would attend again, perhaps the "Harry Potter" show that is in release. The theatre itself was ho-hum, nothing special, I was hoping for more options at their concessions stand but they seemed to only have and promote their liquor choices. More snacks and beverage options please for the family outing! Otherwise, I would attend a show there again if something gathers my family's interest.

Yelp
We saw Wicked here and while the theatre is beautiful, it could definitely use a few improvements. First off, not nearly enough washrooms for patrons, I was lucky that my seat allowed quick access and I was 4th in line at intermission, by the time I left the line was at least 30 people long. It's nearly impossible to go to the washroom and get a drink or snack in the 15 minute intermission. They would also do well to offer more snack and beverage options. That said, our seats were balcony, row C seats 6 &7 and I found them to be quite good, would have been better if I remembered glasses! The theatre is great, but kit equipped to handle a full house

Yelp
Saw the Book of Mormon (again) on opening night. Excellent show. Very nice theatre, as well. Only a short walk from the St. Andrew subway station. Very polite, friendly crowd, which, given that we were there in January, I assume were mostly Canadians.

Yelp
I'd been here years ago for LOTR but haven't since then. I was sad that I had missed Lion King the last time it performed here and therefore was super excited when I got my hands on tickets this time around. Included with our show tickets were vouchers for parking and a gift. It was an easy exchange once we entered the lobby. Once we picked up our tote bag there was a program inside along with a coupon to use for merchandise. I'm glad we got an aisle seat for one of our tickets. There was a bit of a commotion at the beginning of the musical and to our surprise and delight there were actors coming down the aisles in huge animal costumes! The whole stage was made use of wonderfully as well as the aisles to keep the audience engaged. It was a superb evening at The Princess of Wales Theatre.

Yelp
One of the best things about living in a big city is the opportunity to take advantage of a host of cultural events. Most recently, I was at this theatre to see a riveting and scintillating rendition of Singing in the Rain, complete with water pouring in from the ceiling to mimic rainfall. The cast from England was fantastic, the singing and dancing were captivating. You cannot go wrong attending a performance at this majestic theatre! You will be dazzled by the magical atmosphere!

Yelp
Seats way too small. No cup holders for our drinks. Washrooms way too far away. Will never go here again.

Yelp
We got to the theater about half hour before the show. Here to see Phantom of the Opera. Parking was $20 but very convenient, elevator access to the theater. The parking turns are a bit narrow but understandable given the downtown location. You have 2 options to get to the theater: elevator and stairs. Once on the ground floor, the ticketing counters are right there. They also had a small concession as well as a souvenir shop running. There is also a CAA "lounge" where you can get drinks and snacks. The layout was very easy to follow. We had orchestra north seats. Other than the tall-ish guy in front of me, the view was excellent. The staff letting the people into the theater were super professional and courteous and friendly! The stage set was amazing! So were the costumes. The inside of the theater feels extremely grand and the stage set made us feel immersed in the show. The chandelier was magnificent. We sat on the right side so were able to take the elevator to the parking after show quickly and not feel stuck. Will be back!

Yelp
The theatre was huge! And we were here for a TIFF screening. Also got to go to the VISA infinite lounge which had amazing drinks and snacks to munch on. Probably the best experience i have ever had when it comes to a movie screening and thanks to VISA - the theatre itself is about 26 years old but seats about 2000 and you can only imagine how big it can be Very well organized theatre because seating that many people and having to play the movie on time is a hassle and they made it seem so smooth and nice. over all we had a great time including the movie and the audience were incredible especially during the Q&A session we had with the movie team.

Yelp
The Princess of Wales Theater, named after Diana, Princess of Wales, is 25 years old. It opened in 1993 with the Canadian premiere of MISS SAIGON and has hosted over 78 shows. Its a stunning theater, with a turn of the century feel and virtually no bad seats. On this night, I saw Charlie and the chocolate factory from the 7th row, pictured, and was impressed by the sound and sight lines.

Yelp
This is a beautiful theatre with a more modern aesthetic than the other theatres owned by Mirvish. There are large, colourful abstract murals near the lobby. Pros: - sightlines are good making it easy to see what's happening on the stage without being blocked by the heads of the people in front of you (a huge improvement over the Ed Mirvish Theatre) - elevators are available (unlike the Royal Alex) - washrooms are clean - the box office is efficient if you are picking up your tickets before the show - the walk from St Andrew subway station is doable with a view of the CN Tower along the way Cons: - legroom is pitiful in the upper balcony section even for a short person. If you have long legs, don't sit there. - there's often a bottleneck near the doors to King Street when getting out of the theatre.

Yelp
We had our tickets for months, anticipating a show that I saw years ago at the old Pantages. The Princess of Wales Theatre is a throwback to the grandeur of the past; elegant, classy and sophisticated. Definately a spectacular marker for Toronto theatre set, up there with the Royal Alex a few steps away. Entering the doors you are met with well dressed ushers, replete with the standard-issued headsets and ticket scanners. At every corner you are met with additional staff to ensure you arrive at the correct seat, often tripping over and squishing kneecaps to get there. A full house for tonight's performance reflects the reviews of this updated version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical. Synthisizers, cheezie 80s bombastic sounds, and you are transported back to two eras;, 19th century France and he 1980s golden era of musical. Splashy, effects laden, with a budget all up there on stage. With the theatre, you can catch the smells of the gunpowder, the ambiance and sound you just don't get from the cinema. What an amazing experience. When we were in New York, we got to see Evita on Broadway, and this performance certainly rivals the best of them. For the theatre operations itself, a bit of a miss with restroom line ups and facilities availability. Many missed out at intermission to buy a snack because they waiting in lines (especially the ladies) when they should have relaxed with a drink or snack. Speaking of snacks, I know it's a theatre but $3.50 for a bottled water grabbed out of the case in a bit lax and poor taste. The popcorn was good (bad for teeth) but definately an opportunity to add a roving kiosk to service more folks as the intermission is brief. Overall, a great theatre and show. Well done! -Zuk

Yelp
my wife and i are going to Toronto from the southern US for a weekend and wanted to attend a play, we booked tickets from the broker that the theatre uses and 72 hours before the show we get an email that there is an issue with our tickets, they no longer have them. we were offered seats but went from orchestra to last row in the balcony with no other options being given. i am hoping that the show is worth the effort and i doubt that i will do business with the theatre again if this is how their ticket brokers represent themselves and the theatre. not a good start to the trip.

Yelp
Saw the Lion King here last week. Very Beautiful and entertaining production. Fabulous singing voices. The theatre itself is very fancy and elegant. One problem I had is that they don't do a security check when everyone enters the theatre and they let you bring bags to your seat. This could be dangerous considering all the civilian attacks recently.
google avatar

Yelp
Great theatre and location. Parking underground and many restaurants close by. Easy to get to by ttc, bit of a walk from union if taking GO train and driving is annoying with the King Street project Orchestra centre has great view and snacks/drinks available at bars on site. If you are a CAA member, you can get free coat check and coffee!

Yelp
Spectacular. This was a show for my birthday this year that happened earlier however the show only debuted closer to know, so it's like a belated birthday present! I really liked all the actors and how they portrayed the characters that I remember from the movie of the past. I especially liked Climb Every Mountain, the way it was done by the actor that played the Mother Abess. So much energy in her voice. I also liked the "So Long, Farewell" song, it cute and Done well here. They have taken some liberty to insert some more songs than existed in the original which is good to make it a bit more fresh and new. Decor wise this location is always solid, got concessions relatively easily. Just make sure to use the main one and not the ones on the sides if you have the Mirvish Card. We dressed up decently, but it's not a requirement of course. It's nice though to be all prettier up for a show. Given the location parking is ok, paid under $10 for the evening so looking good here. Would be nice if I could find some street parking but not this location. There are a handful of places to eat that are open late that are within walking distance so you definitely won't go hungry.

Antonia Marie C.

Yelp
Beautiful theatre. Great helpful staff. Fabulous views from all seats, although I always get the most expensive seating, because I want to be close to the stage! There's a lot of stair-climbing to get to your seat, or to the washrooms, which is a bit of a drag! And WHY ARE the women's washrooms NOT bigger than the men's, given we ladies don't use urinals? Seriously. Huge line for the women, no line for the men...it's ridiculous! The drinks and snacks are outrageously overpriced, so I never bother with them! I saw An American in Paris here about a month ago, fantastic show fyi. I'm going again end of May to see Motown.....I can't wait! Then I'm seeing Phantom this summer. I'm going to eat at corned beef house and Hooky's fish and chips place close by, there's not a lot of great sit down restaurants close by, which sucks!

Yelp
I love this theatre. I've had years of wonderful memories in this building. I'm so glad that it's not going to be destroyed! The foyer is rather small when you enter but its no big deal, there are much nicer places to be. I've had a subscription for the mirvish shows for 15 years and have been here often. I've mostly sat in the cheap seats waaaayy up at the top by the ceiling. The seats themselves are comfy. But the ceiling seats are narrower and have about 1/3 less legroom. Squishy. Orchestra seats are wider and have great leg room. Best seats are front row of the middle balcony!!

Yelp
Unbelievable theatre. Went to see Book of Mormon and although that play deserves a 5-star rating alone, the Princess of Whales is probably the one of the best theatres in all of the GTA. Extremely comfortable seating, in which none are blocked by some pole or wall (sorry Ed Mrvish Theatre). The food stands at 'halftime' are delicious, with a great choice of drinks or snacks to keep your mouth full while you spit it all out by laughing at BOOK OF FREAKIN' MORMON. Keep being awesome Princess of Whales, because I hope you stay standing for years to come.

Yelp
We had good seats at Orchestra G27 approximately. When I arrived and needed them to print my tickets, I was able to go to their box office and they printed out new versions for me with no problem. The theater seats were bearable and the show was entertaining. Staff were friendly and helpful. I also saw a premiere here for Gravity starring Sandra Bullock. Nice venue. Only complaints is the bathroom is kind of out of the way, and getting access to parking on a busy night is annoying.
google avatar

Yelp
Saw the illusionists last night I was sitting orchestra centre S this is pretty far back but I still had an amazing view!! The theatre is beautiful & all the concierges were super friendly and helpful Only flaw here is parking - the street gets soooo rammed with traffic and people trying to turn in. You have to pay before entering the parking lot and this causes crazy congestion. #torontoproblems

Yelp
This theater is downright first class. Right from the time one walks in one is taken aback by the thought that must have gone in to get this place right. We came here on the opening night of a lauded show and it was understandably sold out. Even with a capacity crowd one is not overwhelmed. The flow of people never crowded one particular area. Now for the main theater itself the seats are good but the backs are not sprung (Elgin Theater) so one has to adjust after a bit just to be comfy. Even though the seats we had were way back the view and acoustics were good. The stage is a bit smaller IMO for a theater this size. The washrooms are clean and maintained well so bonus points for that. Plenty of options for drinks and icing on the cake was American Express card holders area with free wine tasting (I missed out on the snacks) before the show and at half time. 4 Stars.

Yelp
Went to see Beautiful the Carol King musical on the weekend. Nothing to complain about at this theatre really. The ushers at the theatre are really nice & it's a nice theatre. The acoustics are fine & the bars are okay. Only thing to nitpick about is the slowness & size of the elevator. The elevator is slow & it's small. My dad has knee issues so he takes the elevator & the rest of us accompany him. Well with 5 people in the elevator is okay. Put more & it gets squishy. The carpets could use some updating too. Other than that good theatre. I like this theatre better than the Ed Murcia Theatre which used to be called the Pantages Theatre if I remember correctly.

Yelp
This is my second time at this location, mind you the last time I came here it was 1998. My hubby and I attended The Illusionists show at this spot last night. This venue has changed massively.. the place itself is outdated and filthy.. as were going up the stairs to our entrance door we were disgusting at how much dirt was in the carpet. The place definitely needs a deep clean vacuum. They should really look into sprucing up the place, it just look tired and outdated. Could use a facelift. My husband and I are nowhere near being overweight but we found our chairs to be a very tight squeeze. You literally had to hold your arms in so that you were not touching the stranger next to you. The drinks were so bad.... they didn't have any brand name beer that was decent and my cranberry vodka had an odd taste to it. We paid $16 for them and after one sip ended up throwing them out. The Ed Mirvish Theatre makes this place look like a dump. I will only come back here if there's a show I really really want to see but other than that I will look to stay at the Ed Mirvish Theatre. Also, the show was just "okay" in my opinion.. it was kind of cheesy and seemed like it was missing something.. their were a couple of illusions that were awesome but mostly were fake and seemed like their was someone in on it..

Yelp
I absolutely loved this Theatre! I was here on Saturday to see The Lion King and I from the moment I entered to the moment I left, I had the biggest, most stupid smile plastered across my face! The theatre was magnificent, beautiful views of the stage from every seat in the house. The foyer's and lobbys were also gorgeous with elegant fixtures adorning the ceilings and walls. I especially enjoyed the bathrooms, as odd of a thing as that is to say, but the pipe with hundreds of holes gently spraying water out at all angles was a very creative way to ensure patrons wash their hands! As for the show - mesmerizing! The costumes, the performance, the closeness of the storyline to the original and the interaction and involvement with the audience at times - exciting!! I felt like a kid seeing the movie again for the first time - LOVE! Pro-Tip: As I mentioned there is no bad seat in the house but if you'd like a great view AND be able to escape and beat the crowds I suggest you pick seats on an aisle and in the Orchestra level any row after 'P'. I was seated in row S and was able to access concessions and exit at show end long before the crowds became an issue!

Yelp
I went recently to see the Illusionists at this theatre and it is a place that is comfortable with friendly staff. Eve though sometimes seats can get tight, great theatre, facilities. Also now Mirvish has a great partnership with CAA so if you are a CAA member, free coat check is included. Also there is a CAA lounge where you can also get complimentary coffee or tea. Love the perks!

Yelp
While the venue itself isn't as visually impressive as some I've seen, the seating is comfortable and the sound is good. I ordered my ticket online for pick up at will call. That day before email saying to get there 45 minutes early if you're picking up at will call wasn't terribly necessary, as it took about 30 seconds. But I know they're thinking ahead and planning for the mad rush of people who all show up 5 minutes before the show and then probably throw a tantrum if they don't make it in. Or maybe that wouldn't happen here, since overall Canadians seem about 100x nicer than the average human being. Anyway. I had a ticket to see Titanic the Musical, which had been on my theater bucket list since I saw the original Broadway cast perform on the Tony's back in 1997. Well, this cast did not disappoint. It's really en ensemble performance without huge "leads," and everyone was wonderful. If you exit the theater at intermission, you do need to bring your ticket with you, as they check the upon reentry. Enjoy the show!

Yelp
Love this venue for seeing live theatre ! Love it ! Ideally located on King Street with fantastic, quaint, overpriced restaurants nearby, it is one of the best venues in Toronto for experiencing live theatre. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. We were on the Orchestra level (nothing beats scoring free tickets) to see the new Les Miz and had ample view of all the stage...even the tall dude in front of me did not obstruct my view (we were row O). During intermission, I ventured out to grab a water and visit the washroom. I was directed by one of the friendly staff members to the bathroom on the upper level because, as the usher put it, it's less busy than the one below. She was right...during an intermission, I was the only person in the washroom....DURING an intermission !!! Line ups at the bar moved quickly and prices were not ridiculous as other places charge for water ($2) While the theatre is not as "grand" as the Elgin or Winter Gardens, or as beautiful as the Canon, it's appeal is in it's simplicity. It's comfortable, ideally located, acoustically excellent, etc. As a side note, if you get a chance to see the "reworked" version of Les Miz playing (it ends it's run on Feb 2, 2014 before heading to Broadway), go see it. It is excellent. Stellar cast with the amazing Ramin Kirimloo as Jean Valjon. A must see.

Yelp
Super gorgeous theatre on King! Every seat has a wonderful view lots of bathrooms to go to, a bar on every floor. If you're sitting in the balcony and taking the stairs, be prepared to walk up a lot of stairs! They do have elevators to use if needed though.

Yelp
I've had two experiences here in the past month: I saw a TIFF film, "A Little Chaos" here, as well as going to Book of Mormon. Seats are pretty comfy. If you get a tall asshole sitting in front of you, you may be doomed. Bathrooms have a lot of stalls, so even with a line up, you'll have enough time to pee, but I absolutely hate their water-fountain-art-deco sinks. I just want to wash my hands like a regular person, is that so much to ask? I also don't fully understand why they sell alcohol (or why people buy it - you really have to drink a beer during the theatre?), but I guess it's a feature.

Yelp
I just saw the Phantom of the Opera yesterday and the performance was AMAZING!! I've seen the Phantom 5 times and I would say that the new production is the best! The sets, the costumes, the special effects- everything was spectacular!! The view from where we were sitting was very good. The seat was very plush and comfortable and the beautiful stage was awe-inspiring! I also like that there are many wonderful restaurants near the theatre.

Yelp
Love this theatre! This was the state of art theatre back in the days of Andrew Lloyd Weber's Miss Saigon with full helicopter, Phantom of the Opera, etc.

Yelp
I recently got free tickets to go see the Sound Of Music. It wasn't my first time visiting, but I was never the less impressed again by the beauty of the theatre. I will say this though, the chairs aren't the most comfortable and although I had excellent seats (4th row orchestra) I still felt like the guy in front of me had a huge head (he didn't, it was just that there is no slope to the seating). Side note: the double layered chocolate bars they sell at half time are soooooo worth $4! Mmmmm creamy.

Yelp
The Princess of Wales theatre is definitely not fit for a princess like moi! The actual theatre is nice..you get good views of the stage from every section, which is good because even if you are not dropping big bucks, you can be assured you can still actually see the show (no craning your neck, or trying to look around a pole to see the stage here!) Unfortunately that is pretty much the only good thing I can say. The American Express "lounge" really is quite funny. A few (and I mean a few) fold up chairs and I think I saw 2 tiny tables made up lounge area. So about 8 people can sit. Nothing even slightly appealing about wanting to sit in here before the show. The carpets in here are dated. I even saw in several places red duct tape holding down the carpet in some areas (there is red carpeting in areas so at least they made an effort to match the tape with the carpet...lol) I will definitely go back if there is a play that I want to see here, but I won't expect any type of oohhh or ahhhh moment when I walk in. A shame really...

Yelp
I love broadway shows and I love coming to this theatre because it's classy looking, comfortable, spacious and you always receive great service. This theatre is a convenient 5 min walk from St. Andrew Station on King Street so there are plenty of dining options before the show. I have watched several shows at this theatre and enjoyed every single one of them. I recently came here to see The Illusionists and it was absolutely amazing!!! I have seen one magic show prior to this but this one tops it all! Every single act was just spectacular and almost all of them were jaw dropping. I would totally see this show again! Definitely a must see in Toronto!

Yelp
We attending a performance of The Lion King while visiting Toronto. The staff was very nice and helpful and the concessions were fairly affordable. The show was amazing and would love to see another at this location.

Yelp
I was here for a popular TIFF film and although the theatre is gorgeous, their screen is fairly small and the seats are not that comfortable for long shows. The sound system was good. I would come back but not for anything longer than 2 hours unless there was intermission as my back hurt.

Yelp
The more modern of the theatres that the Mirvishes have to put their productions on, the Princess of Wales Theatre is the sister theatre to the Royal Alexandra Theatre found just east of it on King St. W. Seating 2000 or so, the theatre's first production was "Miss Saigon". I saw that production and have since tried not to hold it against the theatre. The theatre itself is eye-popping. The glass front provides a great view of the street, and allows for natural light during the day or the streetlight-lit darkness at night. The theatre itself is a great design, with great main floor, mezzanine, and balcony seats available. As far up as you may be, you always feel like you're part of the show. The facilities are well appointed allowing for good group outings if required. The bars for pre-show and intermission drinks move with a great pace to allow you to get a beverage without risking missing the performance. Unless it's "Miss Saigon". Then you may want to hit the bar heavy.

Yelp
I was just here today for an afternoon performance of the Phantom of the Opera, which was a beautiful performance and the music and effects really keep you engaged the whole time. I don't want to spoil it but for someone who doesn't watch musicals regularly, this is a must-see, which is why I'm giving 4 stars. I have also been to this theatre twice in the past to watch The Lion King and all of my experiences here have been pretty consistent. In terms of the physical appearance of the venue, I would actually give it 3 stars. I personally think the place could use some minor upgrades and renovations to match up to the prices people pay for tickets here. There is only one way to enter and exit the building, which causes major traffic congestion in the corridor when you have everyone at once trying to enter and exit the building. An elevator for this place would be nice especially for customers like us who paid for seats at the very top balcony area. We had to climb several flights of stairs but luckily, it wasn't very exhausting because the stairs were built with a lot of landings in between. The ladies' washroom was clean and decent and I love the hands-free sink but the number of stalls available were pretty limited. On the positive side, when you enter the actual auditorium, the set-up is really nice and you feel like you have taken a time warp to Europe. Whether you have orchestra or balcony seats, regardless of where you sit, you'll always have a good view of the stage. The acoustics are perfect, especially for a musical like Phantom of the Opera, so the sound effects for this production were high quality and could be clearly heard even if the performers were not miked. Also, customer service was friendly. The guy who helped us locate our seating area had an awesome sense of humor. They also provide popcorn, drinks, and sweets, just like a movie theatre, which you can purchase before the show or during intermission. I wasn't very hungry this time around but maybe next time I'll give their concession stand a chance. In conclusion, although the physical appearance of this venue needs work, the amazing epic shows and the friendly customer service is what will continue to bring me back to Princess of Wales Theatre.

Yelp
Princess of Wales Theater has a lot going for it - it's a grand old dame of a theater nestled in the heart of the entertainment district with plenty of bars, restaurants and parking in the immediate area. We went to a TIFF movie (Loving Pablo) and were struck by the historic grandeur, the sweeping sight lines, and the general plushness of the place, but the acoustics were very poor up in the balcony and the seats are crammed uncomfortably together on the side and in front, so there's really nowhere to move around once seated.

Yelp
It's a good theatre and does the trick every time I'm there to watch a show. Location: There's a parking lot on the lower levels which fluctuate in price but with coupons that you can find on their website (or if you're a subscriber, you can just use your subscription card) you can get it anywhere from $10 to $20. Staff: I really wish they would not allow late comers to come in after a while during musicals like they do with plays. It's quite frustrating they were letting people still come in through to the second musical number I was watching. Venue: It's comfortable but I still need an aisle seat due to my 6 foot height. However this has a pretty good amount of left room and the sound is great. Two thumbs up!

Yelp
Last night I saw War Horse at The Princess of Wales theatre and the show, much like the venue, was grand. The bones of this theatre are historic and elegant, giving it the dignity of a west end London playhouse, without being at all dated. The lobby is huge and airy, and is full of really helpful and kind ushers. The bar is fully stocked, with a surprising number of options and you can bring drinks to your seats. This is rare in theatres, and it shouldn't be. There is nothing dignified about a bunch of dressed-up people chugging pricey beer in a lobby as quickly as possible at intermission. Well done, Princess of Wales! BONUS: Probably some of the nicest washrooms in the city. Crazy waterfall wall handwashing station. Go to the bathroom if you are seeing a show here, even if you don't have to go to the bathroom.

Yelp
My friend and I went to the see 'Motown' at The Princess of Wales Theatre recently, the day before the theatre's 25th anniversary. This was my second visit there, having previously seen "The Lion King" some years ago. Our seats were in the centre back of the dress circle, and the view was still very good. There are three seating levels, the balcony above us and a large orchestra below, with a total capacity of about 2000 seats. There is a good slope to the seating, so even with someone tall in front of me, my sight line was not blocked. There are lots of bright paintings on the ceiling, and a lot of red in the décor. The lighting was excellent, and the acoustics were great, never too loud. There is a very nice elevator that we went up in, and then lots of stairs to come back down. (The theatre is fully accessible however.) Apparently, the women's washroom line-up at intermission was very long as expected, but not so for the men's. We did not visit the snack bar, so no comments about it. Overall, another excellent place to see live theatre in Toronto. As a last note, the musical itself was also great, lots of old Motown songs with a plot covering how it came to be.

Yelp
It is not often I give a 5 star however.... I went to Les Mis... (finally here in Toronto) and OMG just LOVED the performance!!!! I heard a few people sniffling in the back ground during the last scene. Bah. I was thinking..... Geez would you die already and get onto the next scene..? Any hoot. I totally loved it and all the cast. BRAVO!!!!! The bathrooms are super clean and the whole theatre is really quite lovely. GO catch a play or musical here!!!!
