Principe Cerami

"The menu at this restaurant aims to return to the basic principles that lie behind chef Massimo Mantarro’s cuisine, namely the use of local and seasonal niche ingredients. Sicily boasts a bounty of produce full of different flavours and colours, taking guests on a journey from the coast to Mt Etna – as an example, vegetables (which dominate the menu) are grown around the volcano and are full of rich and intense flavours. In addition to the à la carte, guests can choose their own dishes from the “Principe Cerami” tasting menu, which includes fish and seafood from the Ionian alongside a few meat options. Although the wine list focuses on Sicily, it also includes some superb wines from elsewhere in Italy and around the world." - Michelin Inspector

My fiancé and I celebrated our engagement here on our recent trip to Italy and it was the best meal we had on our entire trip! Everything was amazing from the food to the service. We are so happy we decided to celebrate such a special time here as we were treated like royalty from beginning to end. This is a truly unforgettable experience that we will cherish forever!

We were staying at the San Dominico Palace and therefore decided to try their flagship restaurant on our final evening. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing, being to one star Michelin restaurant, we did have certain expectations . First of all, I was surprised at we had to choose exact same courses for our degustation menu (not just the number of courses) The signature etna pasta was starchy and should be replaced….. the black crumbs resembling volcano ashes and 5 kinds of tomato sauce was not very enticing…. What happened to the great seafood that you have around you? Main course… piglet, was a cube of fatty pork, probably slow cooked with soggy and sticky skin and all the fat remaining in place so the course was actually…. Not very edible. Deep fry the skin? Oven roast the pork to get the fat reduced? Cheese was great and so was the wine. Overall I expected much more being a one starred Michelin restaurant. To be honest, the weakest link of the stay to such a great hotel in Taormina….

We had a lot of expectations here, one michelin inside the $3,000 per night Four Seasons Resort. Overall service and food were ok. But what was unforgiven was the hair on my Wellington. The server saw it try to pull it out and without success served it to me anyway(photo attached).

DINNER Dinner was wonderful, a beautiful experience from beginning to end! The restaurant is lovely, the service is fantastic (Matteo is amazing, very knowledgeable and charming!), and the food is delicious! We enjoyed everything, including the wine pairings. And the view is gorgeous. BREAKFAST The PC team is excellent, the service is perfection. They do an amazing buffet (beautiful presentation) with delicious a la carte options. Denise (the best!), Elania, Alberto, Adriano, Victoria, Vera, and Dorothea are superstars!

Stunning atmosphere, inventive fresh food and stellar staff. Gaetano and the rest of the team made our dinner last night a memory we will cherish for a long, long time. Highly recommend.

We had dinner at principe cerami in the terrace. We decided to follow the suggestions of the waiters, which were spot on. The food was overall nice, but only one plate, a risotto, was unforgettable. We arrived at the restaurant and the table was not ready. No drink was offered for the wait. So we decided to get a bottle of prosecco by the pool. We were then told the table was ready, but we wanted to finish the bottle and there was no offer to take it to the table. We are then rushed to go to the restaurant since it was the latest time dinner could start. We thus rush to the restaurant to be told the table was not ready. And waited ten more minutes. This is all super far from the service expected at a michelin star restaurant! To finish off, after having to wait for the table so long, we had to pay 30 euros of parking at the hotel because we exceeded the parking time included with the dinner!! Simply outrageous!

Dinner last night was unfortunately quite underwhelming. We chose the 4 course degustation menu and looked forward to what was to come. The flavours, detail and creativity of a Michelin rated one star restaurant was just not there when compared to other Michelin rated dining experiences. The food ranged from average - good but never great, the service was attentive but varied significantly across three servers with one being particularly cold and disinterested, a smile or even a greeting was out of the question! The biggest disappointment was the timing and temperature of the meal, with the initial courses being very slow to then shifting to express service with a course leaving the table to then being immediately replaced with the next course. This appears to be a kitchen issue and significantly impacted the quality and overall experience.

Google
what a wonderful dinner. we spent a week at the four seasons and had dinner one night at the Cerami…the food was very memorable. We ordered the four course version which including two pre-course plates and one pre-dessert dish was actually 7 courses. Not huge but more than enough food. We did laugh at how small one of the anti-pasta dishes actually was but it was two amazing bites so why complain. If you have Euro 450/for two to spend its well worth it. I would say we also enjoyed the dinner we had at nearby Tiramisu for Euro 100 but it’s not the same type of event. .

Yelp
I enjoyed every minute of my stay at the Four Seasons San Dominica Palace. The hotel undergone some major renovation and reopened in 2021 after being part of the Four Seasons. The staff and the Italian hospitality delivers throughout our stay. The planning / correspondence with the concierge was great. I have all the meals and activities planned out about 2 weeks ahead of my stay. Recommend to also arrange your pick up from the airport (we regrettably did not - and the taxi ride was 180 Euro, more than a Four Seasons pick up in a Mercedes. We have the sea-view premium room with a terrace, which costs a fortune but the view is just the killer. The terrace is good size so it is very practical / functional to sit on the balcony, have a drink and soak in that panoramic view of the sea. We opt to venture out to a private tour organized by the hotel: horse back riding on Mount Edna, follow by a lunch and wine tasting at the winery in the area. The logistic was flawless, driver super professional, the view of Mount Edna on the horse back was fantastic, what a great combo of activities. Pool staff at the hotel is top notch, the call button on each table is the modern world way to receive the world class service of the Four Seasons. The current decor in the pool area are all Dolce & Gabbana Casa, very over the top! Even the Granita cart is Dolce & Gabbana, oh yes it is! We had lunch at the restaurant closer to the pool (Anciovi), serving seasonal Sicilian seafood dishes, fresh seafood pastas, seafood salads and fish. Book in advance for to sit next to the beautiful view. The hotel is timeless, the only complain (is any) is there is no adult only pool, so if you are allergic to screaming kids like myself.... But the timeless decor and world class service more than compensate for that.

Yelp
A beautiful hotel with the most AMAZING staff! Megan is a manager here that treated us like royalty! We asked where we could get grilled mozzarella with lemon leaves in town so she picked the lemon leaves and the chef made us this special meal. There were also keto treats in the room for us.

Yelp
Beautiful spot for a drink at the bar or poolside - expect to drop about $20 for a drink - comes with fabulous Sicilian olives, house made spiced almonds and chips (appetizer) Service is great - fabulous views and beautiful setting in a monastery. But...you could be anywhere nothing charming about this place - I liked the 90's version better

Yelp
My wife and I spent a week here last month. Since our visit I read The San Domenico was rated the #1 hotel in the world, and in my experience that's very well deserved. From the time you set foot on the property the staff are welcoming and anticipated your every need without being in your way or smothering you. The restaurant's, bar and food were truly superb, and staff were super friendly. After the first day we knew everybody, and they knew us by name. The room was top notch, a beautiful suite overlooking the Med, with a HUGE balcony and outdoor living space. I can't emphasize enough that EVERY SINGLE aspect of this hotel is far and away the best we've ever experienced, right down to the bellmen and housekeeping staff. A true five star property. I haven't even mentioned the world class pool, gardens... this place needs to be seen to be believed.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, beautiful scenery inside and out. Even if you're not staying here, just come for drinks! Tour the place. It's magical.

Yelp
Super snobby if you want a five star hotel with way better views and a private garden and better pool (without the attitude ) go to the belmond TIMEO. On a side note ....I am so tired of these high end places like the 4 seasons blaming their reduction of service on the covid. We all know you got PPP money. Stop disrespecting people that spend the money in your hotel. If you are open be open and give us what we are expecting. This is a new hotel that opened after covid stop using covid as your crutch.

Yelp
If I could hand out six stars, I would. Recently spent a week at the San Domenico Palace - and probably because it was off-season, it was a nice and quiet week. The service was impeccable everywhere, and the hotel itself had a fantastic old world charm while still being very well maintained. The courtyard is a fantastic spot for a night cap and the two star Michelin-restaurant Principe Cerami was, well - let's just say it's worth a visit. We were seated on the balcony, and with just a handful of tables and a stunning view of the ocean it was definately a night to remember. The combination of location just a minute or two from the main street in Taormina and stunning grounds with a big, quiet garden and relaxing pool is fantastic. I will definately be back here someday. All in all - no complaints. Well, maybe one: The wifi was kind of slow. But then again, that actually forces you to experience the place so maybe it's a good thing.

Yelp
Every year, about this time, my best friend of long standing and I travel to Europe for a week of bonding and adventure. Leaving home husbands, adult children and grandchildren, we try to select a trip in an area where we can experience the lifestyle of those native to the area. We do not go to modern facilities, for there are so many of these in America, where an establishment built in the 1800s serves as historic, rather, we seek out the quaint..the ancient..but with a great amount of comfort and elegance. Such is the San Domenico Palace. Built in the 14 th Century as a monastery, the hotel still has many areas where you can sense the timelessness and almost feel as if you are peeking into a past where quiet and peace were precious commodities. This is not to say that the hotel is not absolutely beautiful. Our room had a balcony that hung over the Ionian Sea and a magnificent view of the Greek theater. Appointed with antiques, it was spacious and extremely comfortable. The wifi was excellent, yes, we diverge from the monks in our need for the Internet, and to my companions delight, the television had movies in English, a passion which she enjoys before retiring. Breakfast every morning was served on a beautiful deck overlooking the sea, where bougainvillea and orange blossoms perfumed the air. It was a very lavish buffet, and the waiters were attentive as well as friendly and even amusing. If you have any needs, Adrianna at the front desk is amazing!! With a cheerfulness and caring not quite displayed by the more formal front desk males, she made miracles with her cheery 'ciao ciao cha cha cha!' You ask and you will receive. Louisa Cacopardo, the assistant manager, is always on hand as well, bustling about to make sure your stay runs smoothly. The Michelin rated restaurant is fantastic, with staff one can only call superb! As we sat down to dine, we received 'gifts'. A pair of pate meatballs for me, served in a tiny tree stump, a caprese salad for my friend, fried asparagus spears on a small salad for both. The food was delizioso and served with grace and aplomb. Again, after dinner, more gifts, wonderful desserts for tasting, cookies, chocolates, (they have a chocolate 'bar'!), and my downfall, homemade lollipops, coffee and jelly apple, served again in the small stump. I can go on and on about this property, the magnificent gardens, where you can recline on a glider and enjoy a good book or just the sight of Mount Etna and the smell of citrus blossoms, the afternoon cocktails served on the lawn, the lovely heated pool, but I will end my narrative just by saying, if it is a taste of Sicily you crave, the San Domenico Palace will be your home away from home as well.

Yelp
Beautiful, charming, lovely, this hotel has so much to offer. The history of the San Domenico Palace and it's list of legendary guests is amazing. The service is flawless. To say it is the best hotel in Taormina is an understatement. If you can't afford to stay there, go for a drink in the beautiful courtyard.
