The Best Cocktails in Oakland, Berkeley, and the East Bay | Eater SF

"Easily the best bar in the area, Prizefighter is off the beaten path in Emeryville. A roomy, low-lit bar is accompanied by a very pleasant patio. The drink menu is categorized by punch bowls, mixed cocktails, wine, beer, sherry, and best of all, “from the freezer,” a selection of batched cocktails kept at freezing temps and requiring no shaking or ice." - Nico Bianchi

Nommo, New SF Cocktail Bar From Bar Agricole and Prizefighter, Is Open - Eater SF

"Those drinks are more Prizefighter than Bar Agricole, says Vogler — although there’s plenty of rum to go around. Santer, who opened seminal SF bar Bourbon & Branch, where he met Vogler, has developed a reputation for un-fussy, patio-friendly cocktails at Prizefighter." - Caleb Pershan

I love this bar. The vibe is just right, the staff is great, and the owners are awesome. I love being able to support a locally owned, dog friendly, chill bar in my neighborhood. Their bottleshop around the corner is also impressive and definitely worth checking out! The variety they have curated is almost overwhelming. I love that they nerd out over these spirits and show it by offering clubs and now the talk and taste series. Stop in for a drink or several, bring food from one of the great nearby restaurants, bring your friends or make new ones!

We recently visited Prizefighter cocktail bar on our way home, and it turned out to be a delightful detour! The cocktails were so enticing that instead of just one, we ended up ordering two each. The selection of liquor was impressive, and the cocktail menu was both creative and intriguing. My personal favorite was the Pink Cashmere – a beautifully crafted drink that balanced flavors perfectly. It’s definitely a must-try! While the bartender was decent, I felt there was room for more engagement, but it didn’t detract much from the overall experience. The atmosphere was lively, enhanced by great music that set the perfect backdrop for a fun evening. Overall, Prizefighter is a fantastic spot for cocktail enthusiasts. I can’t wait to return and explore more of their menu!

Google
Excellent place to grab a fantastic drink in a chill atmosphere. We went on a Saturday night around 7 and there were people but it wasn't super busy. We got fast and friendly service, delicious drinks, and it was laid back and quiet enough to talk. We sat on the patio under the gas heater and it was glorious. They have some light snacks (and tamales that we didn't try). Also it's handicap accessible and they have gender neutral bathrooms which is great!

Ordered a gin martini. Got back to the table. There was one small olive that had been dropped in the glass without a toothpick. I guess you were either supposed fish it out with your fingers or wait until the last sip and then roll it into your mouth. Inexcusable. Won’t be back.

Google
Amaaazing bar! They have really, REALLY good cocktails - my favorite is Modern Love (also love the homage to Bowie). And their service is as good as it gets - everyone here is so kind and lovely. One of the best bars in the entire Bay Area.

Google
This is my favorite bar in the east bay. Great atmosphere. Lots of light, outdoor patio. Great people on both sides of the bar. Top shelf cocktails delivered by skilled bartenders. Supurb and ever changing brew on tap. Shuffleboard. Zapp's potato chips. Dog friendly (if they are well behaved ) Can't get any better that this. OH and a complete line of mezcal. And fantastic line of American Whisky.

Google
I didn't have the food but the drinks are always on point. The staff is flawless in their execution and heavy with their pour. A win each and every time.

Google
Great outdoor patio, exceptional service. We just went for drinks before dinner but it was fantastic and I highly recommend Prizefighter. We enjoyed the gin martini and bloody mary very much.

Yelp
Great indoor and outdoor space in a prime East Bay neighborhood. The bartenders here are very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend this location for a beverage before or after dinner. We will keep coming back for sure.

Yelp
One of my favorite cocktail bars in the east bay and what makes it is the bartenders? They are super attentive and seem to enjoy working here, the atmosphere is casual but the ambiance is pretty up there with SF If not better.

Yelp
Prizefighter is a nice spot for happy hour after work, especially when the weather is nice outside! They have a small outdoor patio with a number of benches, which is great for socializing. Personally, I feel like their drinks are a bit watered down with tons of ice, but the happy hour prices are decent so it's fine I guess. I got a sangria and a jalapeño tequila cocktail. They make their sangria here with rose, which I don't like quite as much as the typical red wine sangria. The tequila cocktail was much better and definitely had a strong jalapeño flavor!

Yelp
I've apparently been living under a rock because I had no idea cocktail bars were so popular! We were lucky to find parking right across the street and walked right in to catch a pre dinner cocktail. I ordered the margarita de tamarindo and the bartender made it right away. The cocktail was HEAVY on the tamarind (which was why I got it) and was a good twist on your traditional cocktail. I really enjoyed the boxing theme that was woven throughout the bar and the indoor and outdoor seating were spacious.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute drinks! Location seems pretty sketchy since there's nothing else around, but that meant easy street parking right in front. Pretty extensive list of drinks to choose from. I opted for the Pink Cashmere and it was so tasty! Definitely a good drink if you're into sweet cocktails. Didn't stay too long but it seemed like an overall cool place to hang out with lots of seating both indoor and outdoor on their patio.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night; the bouncer checked IDs at the front and then let us in right after confirmation of our age. It was full of people but not packed to the point of no sitting space. We ordered a couple drinks, all of which were good. I got the pink cashmere, which tasted like a strawberry milkshake and lemon drop, which tasted like a lemonade with sugar rim. The vibe is super chill and not too loud so you can talk without having to scream at the other person. There's a ton of seating inside and outside the bar, which is nice. There's space heaters outside in case you're cold. The prices were pretty typical for cocktails. I would recommend coming here if you're looking for a chill spot for date night or catching up with friends and good, reasonably priced drinks.

Yelp
Cool bar - would recommend stopping in for some good cocktails! The patio is a really great spot as well to enjoy your tasty beverage.

Yelp
This bar was a pleasant surprise. There was a certain vibe that I was looking for and this spot was exactly it. The spot: Randomly located in an industrial area which makes it pretty unique. When we arrived, they had a guy checking ID's. The patio was pretty awesome with lights, plants, and had about 6-7 tables with chairs. Pretty dope space and felt very cozy and welcoming. They were playing hip hop music during the first 2 hours we were there, it was pretty great vibes for an early Saturday evening. Dog friendly bar. The indoor space is pretty big with a handful of tables and a long bar with barstools. The bar is stacked with a huge variety of liquors. It was quite overwhelming, but also pretty exciting because they were nothing short of a variety of delicious handmade specialty cocktails that could be made. Restrooms were gender neutral and appeared to be pretty clean. They only had an air hand dryer, which are not my favorite. They didn't have paper towels, so I had to use my shirt to open the door after washing my hands. Parking: There's plenty of street parking. Not too much street traffic, so parking didn't appear to be an issue. The service & drinks: The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. They made some pretty amazing drinks too. I tried the Margarita de Tamarindo with Mezcal, it was fire. The drink was flavorful, I just wish it was rimmed/garnished with something creative to elevate the flavors. The Prairie Artisan Ales Slush was a great sour, with flavors of strawberry, raspberry, and citrus. The liquor/drink menu is almost 40 pages long, with some very unique and specialty options. So they have something for every palate. They also have some good beers available too. Food: They have $4.50 tamales. Who doesn't love tamales and a nice cocktail. They had a meat and a vegetarian option available. Which both sounded amazing, unfortunately we didn't try them. Definitely next time! Overall, this bar is fantastic! If you're in the area, you'll definitely want to check it out. It's a quick drive from the Emeryville hotels and a quick find from the freeway.

Yelp
Our group of 20 enjoyed the spacious patio with heaters. Mac the Host greeted us (carded us) with a friendliness that set the tone for a very happy Happy Hour. All the drinks were delicious, including the whiskey sour and pitcher of lager. We loved the pizza from Rotten Pizza just down the street.

Yelp
Pretty place. Nice decor. As an old Golden Gloves boxer, I enjoyed the theme. It's too expensive, though. A beer and a shot of well tequila cost me almost $19. I can sort of understand expensive cocktails because they require skill and quality hooch, but a beer and a shot of cheap tequila shouldn't cost that much.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
Great drinks and chill ambiance. Indoor and outdoor seating. The bartenders are pretty cool to talk to and hang. There is a pizza shop across the street that is pretty good and will deliver to Prizefighter any time! Not a lot of other stores around, mostly apartments and industrial area.
google avatar

Yelp
Prizefighter is a place we used to visit somewhat frequently, but stopped when we had to stop/cut back on drinking. We were in the area recently and popped in, and were delighted to see that they have a large nonalcoholic section! While that's becoming more common, it's rare that you see it this large. We tried one alcoholic drink, and the two top mocktails, and they were all delicious. Thanks for having good N/A options and mocktails, Prizefighter!

Yelp
Came here for some drinks when the weather was nice! They don't serve any food just drinks. I got a beer and it was a reasonable price. They serve cocktails too. The people are friendly and service was fast. The area itself is a little hidden but the vibe in the outdoor area is great. Very low key.
google avatar

Stephy L.

Yelp
Great drinks and great vibe! Really love the heat lamps outside too especially when it gets chilly at night. Service is pretty good too, staff are friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything about this spot is right. Beautifully created cocktails with in house made syrups and bitters. High end alcohol. Yum. Very very good. I used to work around the corner and went there regularly. Staff is awesome.

Yelp
Went here after work with a few coworkers. Chill spot and love they have an outdoor patio. Plus we were able to reserve tables ahead of time and bring food in. Perks, they also have Happy Hour from Tuesday - Fridays from 4pm-6pm. I ordered the Tequila Fix and a Michelada. Both drinks were refreshing! Would come back again!
google avatar

Jeanie N.

Yelp
Cool spot for cocktails, especially since there aren't that many places in this neighborhood. Would come back to get a drink here but wouldn't go out of my way. Cocktails are good but not amazing - they try! Just not as good as north light in temescal or Comal in downtown Berkeley They serve some food but not a lot. Tried the tamales which they microwave for you and give you some sauce. It's not bad but not great Nice indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of parking available in the area Nice bartenders / service

Yelp
Great patio, disappointing service. Came by after work with a friend for some pre-dinner cocktails. I ordered a Rosalita and my friend had a Manhattan. We sat on their outdoor patio by the space heater; which made it very comfortable despite the cold temperatures. Unfortunately, I had my cocktail taken away by an overly-industrious server who cleared our table even though I had only take a sip of two of my drink! By the time I called out that I was not finished, be had already put his hand in my glass and walked to the next table :/ When you're paying $14 for a signature cocktail and only get a few sips, it's disappointing. Would recommend that staff ask before taking glasses.

Yelp
FAVORITE BAR EVER. Amazing drinks, awesome bartenders and a gorgeous atmosphere. The whole package!

Yelp
I wanted to get some drinks with some friends and Prizefighter has a great outdoor pad if you're looking for some socially distanced fun. It was super easy to make a recommendation for either indoor or outdoor seating, which I would recommend especially for the weekend. As of October 2021, they were also checking for vaccination cards regardless of where you are sitting. I ordered the Myth of Fingerprints (Vodka, Watermelon, Lime, Cappelletti, Salt) and their special for the night which was a special Daiquiri. The cocktails are a bit pricey, but I thought they were delicious and not too sweet. I love how you can watch them make the drink at the bar and how beautiful they all turn out. I also tried a cheese (vegetarian) tamale and it was pretty good. Definitely a nice snack when drinking. As a bonus, there's a bunch of free street parking nearby and tons of places to eat in walking distance!

Yelp
Super dog friendly, quick service, chill vibes - a great place to get your weekend started!

Yelp
What a hidden gem! This is a great bar in Emeryville with indoor and outdoor (covered) space. It's been around for sometime but surprisingly this was my first time here. We didn't need a reservation and just walked in (they do check IDs at the entrance). I enjoyed the Pink Cashmere drink (it's like the Starbucks pink drink, but with alcohol!). My fiancé also enjoyed his bourbon drinks. I think their specialty cocktail menu was a bit small but luckily I really loved the Pink Cashmere so was happy with my drink. We enjoyed watching the Warriors game here, and overall the spot didn't get too loud - it's nice to be able to hear the people you're with! They had a small menu, including tamales, which my fiancé enjoyed as a quick bar snack. Big plus is that they allow dogs - our dog enjoyed greeting people as they entered. The bartender was gracious in giving our dog a water bowl as well! Looking forward to going back here soon!

Yelp
Great bar that always leads to a great time! The cocktails are delicious and usually have a unique twist to them. They have an extensive collection of spirits and also beer and cider options. Service is fast and friendly. There's no food onsite other than chips and tamales, but they allow you to bring outside food in. Rotten City Pizza is probably the closest option nearby. There's spacious seating inside with TVs, but it can get a bit loud so I like to opt for outside. The covered patio is great and there are multiple heat lamps to keep the tables toasty. If you need seating for a party of 10 or more, you can email them to request a reservation.

Yelp
Great fun bar that's an ultimate east bay hipster experience. The drinks are pretty good too and I believe you can bring your own food.

Kerri N.

Yelp
I love this place the most. The MOST! Amazing drinks (hello I can drink 3-4 and not be hungover? it's like magic!) The atmosphere is like nowhere else, such an incredibly beautiful space. I also have some favorite people that work there as well. Connor the bartender, is attentive, always makes sure to greet me and anyone else that comes in. He's helpful when I don't know what to order, super kind and really fast. He makes my drinks in a blink of an eye! Its actually really impressive. Also, Alex is really sweet. He is on top of it and never lets an empty glass sit on my table for more than a minute. I really enjoy this place and we are lucky to have it in the East Bay. If you haven't been yet, run don't walk. You wont be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Have been here quite a few times for after-work gatherings. Prizefighter is a (mostly) outdoor bar with good tunes and an impressive cocktail menu (lots of classics plus a page of signature drinks). Service has always been friendly, and they are pretty accommodating to large groups. This place is also pet friendly, so there are usually a few dogs in sight. Overall, Prizefighter has a good ambiance and is worth checking out if you like unique cocktails. I just wish they'd add more food items to their menu.
google avatar

Sophia S.

Yelp
Fancy drinks, clean spaces with social distancing, good music...this place has a lot to offer! I ended up here after a late movie (with social distancing). We were looking for a place that stays open past 8PM - which is near impossible during this pandemic. So imagine our excitement finding a place that's open and has so many cool options. I ordered a specialty cocktail from the menu and my friend ordered an old fashioned. Both were great - in presentation, taste and reasonably priced. Vibes!
google avatar

Helen S.

Yelp
Nice ambiance. Drink menu isn't overly big so if you get overwhelmed with options like me, it works! Love the outside seating -- I think they have games that people were playing or you can bring your own? Either way, parking isn't too shabby when I went (Thursday evening) and the bouncer is cool! Wanna go back!
google avatar

Michelle I.

Yelp
Nice casual atmosphere with heat lamps and a dog friendly patio. My favorite was the clarified pina colada (pictured on the right)!
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
This bar is a bay area hidden gem! I had gone for the first time the other day and I can honestly say I will be returning. The location once you enter the patio is clean and beautiful. The outdoor space is big and does not feel crowded with tons of chairs and tables available. Once you enter inside there is every type of alcohol you can imagine and there is TVs to watch sports. The bartenders were so fun and can make killer drinks. If you like sweet drinks the Pink Cashmere is the drink for you. You can find me coming back getting a Pink Cashmere vibing to the fun music and great environment.
google avatar

Ginevra A.

Yelp
Honestly wish I didn't have to wait to be carded on the sidewalk, but that's ok. Hip, hipster, good spot with lots of different spirit offerings and a long cocktail list. Fun times

Jay C.

Yelp
Never had a bad drink here. Bartenders are good at what they do even if it's an off menu item. Very cool spot for a lounge and cocktail.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
This place is such a hidden gem! Had a great night here with my friend. The outside patio is so pretty decorated with all the twinkle lights, covered and warmed up with tall heaters everywhere. Luckily California doesn't get too cold in the winter to dine outside! You scan the QR Code at your table and order off your phone. The pork tamales (which you had to order if you were getting a cocktail, but who's complaining?) were delicious and warm, I definitely demolished three. And the drinks were made really well! Strong and sweet/flavorful depending on what you got. Highly recommend the Democrat with bourbon, lemon, peach and honey if you like it sweet. Or the Mexican/Oaxacan Firing Squad if you love pomegranates but with a bit of tart. Haha I enjoyed both! Would definitely come back here. Nice service, cool atmosphere and most importantly, really great drinks!
google avatar

Maurice M.

Yelp
I've gotten drinks here a few times over the years. Most recently in 2023. Friendly bartenders and a good selection of cocktails. Comfortable seating.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Great drinks & a perfect outdoor covered patio. Easy parking too. Cozy backyard feel to it. Will not disappoint.
google avatar

Liliana C.

Yelp
Love this place. I love the vibe at this bar. The space is in an industrial area. Plenty of parking. It has an I door and outdoor area. They also serve food.
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
Nice, cozy bar with quality cocktails. I came here on a Wednesday night and loved the outdoor patio and overall atmosphere. I got the Rosalita drink which was a margarita with amaro in it. Unique flavor to many of the cocktails and they have something for everyone. Staff was super friendly and wanted everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. Will definitely be coming again!

Austin B.

Yelp
Good bar to get a beer or cocktail from. Outdoor seating is nice. Only seen it crowded a few times.
google avatar

Gustavo C.

Yelp
This will be forever my favorite place in the world. The vibe, the people, the music, it's just perfect. I don't think I will be in emeryville forever, but it shall forever stay in my heart. The way these people make me feel at home is heartwarming. I'd like to let everybody know how much I appreciate "the democrats" I get every time I come here. Forget drunk texting, drunk *yelping* is the best thing. Thank you guys for being so great on such a tuesday!
google avatar

Arantxa V.

Yelp
Really cool bar! It's a little too dark, there's a cool eerie to it. The Drinks were good and the bartenders are nice people.
google avatar

Nadia I.

Yelp
Came through here last night (Friday). Nice outdoor space, not a whole lot of seating but we were lucky enough to snag a table. Ordered drinks at the bar - was a little tough to get the bartenders attention. Ordered 4 alcohol drinks (an IPA, whiskey ginger, vodka cran, vodka martini) and 1 ginger ale came out to about $70 after tip. The vodka martini seemed like a little heavy on the vermouth but it was ok. Street parking was plentiful but little dark. No issues though. They check ID at the door so don't forget yours!
google avatar

Brandi G.

Yelp
The bartenders were nice and I liked the vibe! If I'm ever in the area again I'll definitely revisit!

Yelp
Came in on a Tuesday night around 7 pm with a friend who had already been. We found two stools by a wall and he went to order us drinks. He brought us back two tequila flights as well as tomato juice and pineapple juice chasers. While waiting for our drinks, I had a chance to look around. The outside patio is dog friendly and a nice place for some fresh air while chatting with friends. The inside was more of a laid back atmosphere with groups of people hanging out, chatting and enjoying their drinks. The tequila flight itself was very good; with three different types of tequila. The tomato juice was spicy and paired well. The pineapple juice seemed to have added cilantro to give it its own kick. If you're hungry, make sure to eat before you come as I'm not sure I saw any food thought it could've been separate from the drink menu and we didn't get it. Parking is street parking but we didn't have a problem at all locating something right across the street.
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
Cute bar in a random location with nice outdoor space. Chill place to grab drinks. People even seemed to be bringing food and eating outside. Would come back!
google avatar

Olivia C.

Yelp
Don't get the tamarind margarita because it tasted like apple juice. Don't get the chili and cheese tamale, it lacked flavor. Do get the Paloma it was refreshing, bright and tangy. Do get the pork tamale, it had a good pork to masa ratio. The pork was flavorful and tender, it had been cooked in a rich red sauce. The side salsa was rich in flavor and was a deep beautiful red. The bar is tucked away in an industrial park. The building looks like an old warehouse, decor is trendy and urban. Good old school hip hop was bumping. (It wasn't the same old tunes of Biggie and 2pac) it was busy Friday around 8pm, after we sat down there was no longer seating available. I will say it was busy but not overwhelming where it takes a while to get drinks because that's all that matters right.
google avatar

Kendra B.

Yelp
Cool cocktail bar in an industrial area. The drinks were good and the bar had a nice aesthetic. Crowd was a little loud for my liking but I went on a Saturday evening so that's to be expected.
google avatar

Juliana W.

Yelp
Great spot to meet a colleague for a drink. Lovely selection of craft beverages, great liquor selection and an extensive been menu.

Yelp
Came here with a group of friends and had a great, chill experience. Here's why! Beverage: A The drinks were made pretty strong. Seemed like not the watered down stuff you get from clubs, but actually decent alcohol and you can watch them do the whole thing. If anything they go a bit over. They have a decent selection of ciders and beers too (in cans). Price: C+ The drinks are about average on what you would see at a normal bar. Parking: A- The area around the bar is around what seems like an industrial area so lots of side street parking available on nearby streets with no parking meters. Shouldn't have any issues of finding parking, especially at night. Vibe/Environment: A This is what you go for. They have a very cozy indoor area for seating, but the outdoor is awesome. They have space heaters in several locations so you shouldn't feel cold in most areas. The place is decorated with wrestler photos back in the day and like the name, really upholds to the traditions of wrestling. Overall, the vibe is super chill and relaxed. Staff: A They were awesome from start to finish from our experience there. Very accomodating for our large group (10 people). And we got seated pretty quickly (within 10 minutes). Overall: A We will definitely come back here! Cannot recommend enough for a good time.

Yelp
Returned for the first time after many years! Outdoor space is beautiful. Quality of drink options have also improved (speaking about the specifically). Also, Lucy for the win.
