Progreso Cafe - Review - Long Island City - New York - The Infatuation

"Progreso Cafe is a Chinese bakery in Long Island City's Koufuku Mart. Their classic offerings—egg tarts, red bean buns, roast pork buns and more—are baked in Flushing every morning. They also have specialty drinks, like a salted egg yolk latte. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

Progreso Cafe is nestled within Kofuku Mart so I highly recommend making a pit stop by the cafe if you're already at the market picking up groceries and whatnot. The drinks are creative with an Asian inspired flair on common cafe drinks and their pastries are priced better than most cafes in LIC. I've had the pleasure of speaking with the owner before and she specifically mentioned that she tries to keep the price of the pastries down in spite of the crazy high LIC rents. My first time visiting was as part of the Yelp Queens x LICP 2025 Boba Crawl and the owner had laid out an exquisite sampler of their pastries for people to try, completely for free during the event. We were also given a sample of their espresso smoothie containing bananas and dates that made for a wonderful pick me up and a sample of their classic latte which showcased the high quality of their coffee as it struck the right balance between earthy aromas with a not too bitter aftertaste that I notice a lot of coffees tend to have. I ended up going back the next week to buy a full size of the espresso smoothie because it was just that good. If you need a place to stop by for a light breakfast on the go before work, I strongly recommend making Progreso your go-to.

Finally leaving a review after my third visit.. highly recommend here for creative drinks and great breads from a famous bakery in Flushing. 🌹🍵💗Rose water matcha latte was a new item in their upcoming spring drinks. The great balance between the sweetness from the rose water and the bitterness from matcha was amazingggggg.. Really refreshing option. ☕️🥛✨Cappuccino I got the other day was wonderful as well. Creamy and rich. They use beans from integral which is professional. 💜🍰💛Taro pudding roll will be the sweet that I try ink is the MUST get if u r looking for cake. Super rich, big portion. Worth the price! It always sell out in the Flushing location. Almond cake was good too. Something less common but nice. Would love to try more items in the future..!) 🍴Pork bun was delicious too! It was also hugeee!

There’s a cool new cafe & bakery inside Koufuku Supermarket, and it‘s super unique! The salted egg yolk latte, when you mix it up, totally tastes like drinking the filling from a molten custard mooncake. And the rich coffee bean aroma blends perfectly—so satisfying! 😍 The coconut milk latte is super refreshing, with a smooth, silky texture—such a thirst-quencher! 👍 The rose latte 🌹 is just so calming! The owner was super excited to show off their beans, saying they’re high-quality from Colombia. You’ve gotta check it out and taste the quality for yourself~ If you’re avoiding caffeine, you can go for milk instead. Their nutty, rich black sesame milk is a lifesaver for anyone staying up late and worried about hair loss.

This cafe inside of Koufuku Market offers a variety of Asian pastries as well as drinks. When I came, I just got their drinks. I got their black sesame latte and their matcha latte. The black sesame latte was a bit better than their matcha but the paste they used did not blend well with the coffee at all. So, when I drank it, it was basically just drinking coffee with thick chunks of black sesame paste. On the other hand, their matcha latte tasted like nothing (I mean, in the pictures it's almost pale/white). Would not recommend their drinks, maybe their pastries are better?

the service was fine but please do not get matcha here unless you want to waste $7+ dollars. It does not taste like matcha and the color is truly pitiful

OVERPRICED and bad taste, tried their specialty salty egg yolk latte, almost $8 for a super small cup, weird texture like they put a real smashed egg yolk in it, threw it away after I took a sip. (I love salty and sweet flavor and I love a salty egg yolk and pumpkin drink from another spot nearby, this place doesn’t know how to make good drinks. )

Their coffee is very sour and astringent, and their flavored matchas are cloyingly sweet. Their pastries are ok — not bad, but also not that different from the pastries available at the other Asian bakeries in the area.
