The Best Speakeasies and Hidden Bars in Minneapolis and St. Paul | Eater Twin Cities

"Prohibition Bar isn’t exactly hidden, but considering it’s tucked away on the 27th floor of the Foshay Tower, it has the hush-hush feel of a classic speakeasy. Try a vintage cocktail like the Wilbur’s Manhattan, finished with bitters and tart Amarena cherries. The bar drips with the ornamental charm of the 1920s and 1930s." - Natalia Mendez

12 Twin Cities Restaurants Where the Views Match the Food

"Possibly the highest-elevated public lounge in Minnesota, Prohibition offers panoramic views of downtown Minneapolis and beyond. The cocktails are worth the elevator ride to the 27th floor of the Foshay Tower: Try a Manhattan made with oak-aged bourbon, or the “Jackie Diamond,” a mix of Keeper’s Heart whiskey, cherry dark bitters, and orange peel in a smoked glass." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

Bars and Nightlife in Vancouver

"One of the only lounges in town that has regular live jazz, the Prohibition Bar caters to an upscale, classy set. Drinks range from experimental (try the New Prohibition with pisco and coca leaf liqueur) to sophisticated twists on classics like the Negroni. The wine, whiskey, and spirits list make up for the thin variety of craft beer. It’s only open Thursday through Sunday, adding to the sense that you have indeed come to a special place." - MATADOR_NETWORK

9 Secret Bars For Clandestine Cocktails Around the Twin Cities

"Prohibition Bar isn’t exactly hidden, but considering it’s tucked away on the 27th floor of the Foshay Tower, it has some of the hush-hush feel of a classic speakeasy. This out of the ordinary speakeasy is an unexpected treat. I think of speakeasies being in clandestine basements off alleys. Although you’ll miss that thrill this gem makes up for it with city views and posh nooks to linger and sip in. The cocktails have prohibition inspired names and are out of this world. The small plates all looked fantastic. We tried the meatballs and I’d highly recommend these. They have a kick. The bartender was friendly and informative. It has a bit of a more glamorous entrance up the art deco styles elevators. I can’t wait to go back.

I'm a huge fan of the prohibition vibe in any bar or "speakeasy". So how can any place compete with a historic building with skyscraper views, art deco vibe, and built months before the great depression? This place oozes history and authenticity. I get it, they have a business to run. But if it were me I would give the bar, furniture, and whole space a makeover that is sympathetic to the history and originality of the woodwork and ceilings. Not a makeover. But it is looking worn out. Still, just being here sipping a drink is so choice. And looking out the window at the great views and thinking, what was it like to be here in 1929 or 1930? By the way the drinks especially the Old Fashioned and bar service was outstanding. I can't wait to come back. It is definitely not cheap though.

We went right when they opened for the night, and the hotel desk staff were courteous in helping us find our way up to the restaurant. The drinks are pricey but are very tasty. The views are incredible, and the decor in all the little nooks and crannies fits the Prohibition theme very well. Super cool atmosphere and certainly a one-of-a-kind experience.

Our server was extremely attentive and wonderful. The ambiance was amazing (we went on a Saturday night around 8:30), great views of the city. We ordered off the Manny’s menu and the food was great, the seafood tower portions are quite large. Some of the best cocktails (Blue-eyes Betty, Attitude Adjustment, and Hush Money) we’ve had in Minnesota. Those drinks were all unique and delicious. The drink price is a little high compared to other places in the Twin Cities, but we found them to be worth it if you’re into cocktails and trying unique concoctions. Great place for a date night. This place would easily hold its own in Chicago or NYC!

Google
Great location for a quiet, intimate date night. Seating is limited which only aids in creating a quiet, personal environment. My wife and I rarely get date nights with our 2 young kids, but even considering the drink prices, it's worth it. We really get to connect here as opposed to a loud traditional bar.

First cocktail was good, but my second was too sweet. Food was okay. The old fashioned was not worth 22 dollars though.

I really hope the server was just having a bad day because she seemed pretty miserable. Made us feel like we were an inconvenience and was very rude to us on multiple occasions. She got really upset when we only had one drink each and left but honestly its because we didn't want to stay. The drinks were fine but we had visited several other bars that day and the prohibition had our least favorite cocktails. They tasted okay but all the other bars had better cocktails. (The best that day was Hells Kitchen). We wont be back do to the service. On a positive note we really liked the bouncer/security guard. He was very friendly. We liked the atmosphere too.

We visited the Prohibition bar on a Saturday. We arrived just after opening and were excited to have a view of Downtown Minneapolis. Our visit quickly turned into a bucket of disappointments. The pictures you see on the website show a nice view, but what the pictures don't show you is that there are only a handful of tables that have a view. Most people coming here will not get a seat with a view! It's a really poorly designed space. Yes, we understand this is a historic building that probably has restrictions, but there is a reason they don't show you full pictures of the space on the website. And there is so much wasted space there. Half of the floor is taken up by private party rooms. I'm guessing those have a great view! Also, the place smelled musty and wasn't the type of clean you'd expect if you are paying for high-end cocktails at $17-$21 each. The bar itself is tiny, with 5 stools at it. We came off the elevator and the crowd at the bar was 4 or 5 people deep. Fun! Then you basically make a turn from the elevator and wander around with everyone else trying to find a view. Good luck! You're better off with the view from your hotel room. We found a cold drafty corner with 2 chairs. No view, just dark paneling, a cracked mirror on the mirrored post and fruit flies. Yum! Our first server was very nice. A+ for her. The second server acted pissed because we asked for our check. We lied and said everything was great, so she had nothing to throw the RBF at us about. Yeah, do better. We're done here. Note: We are always very kind to service workers. Our drinks arrived and they were cloyingly sweet and not well-balanced at all. My drink had a mint garnish, but it was floppy old mint that should've been tossed out 2 days earlier. It wouldn't have been sold in a store and it smelled like cat piss. Hey kids, wonder where you got the fruit flies! Rotten mint is neat! The only thing that could save this bar is the view, but sadly you'll pay $17-$21 for a poor cocktail, rotten garnish, fruit flies and only a view of confused people packed together and wondering where the hell the view of downtown is. Avoid this dump. There are much better bars in downtown Minneapolis. They clearly don't care. Why should you?

Yelp
VIEWS FOR MILES We enjoyed a beer and a 'zero proof' cocktail at Prohibition right after a weekday 5pm opening when it was very quiet. We were tucked away in a corner on a high-top table with great views of the surrounding Minneapolis skyscrapers and distant views of St. Paul. I was able to take some great photos out the windows throughout the bar before it got too busy. WE SKIPPED THE OBSERVATION DECK, CHOOSING PROHIBITION INSTEAD We chose visiting the 27th floor Prohibition over paying to ascend to the Foshay Tower and Observation Deck (30th floor), because we thought the views were good enough. We put our money towards cocktails instead! If you want to learn about the history of the place, it's easy to research it on your phone while sipping. :) 1920s SPEAKEASY FEEL The decor is 1920s-ish with dark woods, blacks and purples with splashes of reds, occasional armchairs, couches and book cases. It was originally a retreat for the builder magnate Wilbur Foshay. I thought the actual bar didn't quite have a wow factor, but the rest of it felt 'speakeasy', although it's not quite as mysterious and clandestine as some we've visited. MOCKTAIL The zero proof cocktail I tried -- A 'Crime of Passion', complete with a real flower for garnish -- was one of the best 'mocktails' I'd ever had. It wasn't too watered down with ice and was quite flavorful. ($12, summer of 2024). TAKE THE ELEVATOR TO THE 27TH FLOOR In order to get to Prohibition, take the elevator up to the 27th floor from the ground floor where you find the check-in desks at the Foshay (W Hotel). When we took the elevator, there was a large crowd of conference people also waiting, so it took a few rounds of waiting before we got up there. For great photos of the Foshay Tower, go across the street.

Yelp
Went here solo for a quick drink before a dinner reservation, elsewhere. It wasn't too clear if you could seat yourself or if you need to check in. But I ended up seating myself and had someone help me order. The drink I got was super unique it was the first time I tried a schezuan buzz bomb! I'm glad the server told me how to use it properly since I did see another bar use these and didn't realize they were edible!

Yelp
Stop by for some drinks for my friends birthday. Drinks were good, but pricey. $26 for one drink with a tip. The furniture definitely needs to be replaced some of it because it was very worn. Customer service was overall good, but it was pretty difficult to find our waiter for the majority of the time and she didn't remember what each person ordered. Therefore, it was a bit of a process to close out our tab.

Yelp
Prohibition wasn't very busy when it opened at 5pm. By 7:30pm it was filling up fast. The actual bar is small with most seating in the other cozy rooms. The specialty cocktail is the Verbena. Chew the Szechuan Button for a mouth numbing effect. The swirl the drink in your mouth. Very fun. The Verbena - Herradura Silver Tequila, Monin Ginger Syrup, Lemon Juice, Yuzu Sour Puree, Szechuan Button Your food choices are a limited menu of small plates or you can order from the Manny's menu (food will cool before it makes it to the bar). Don't miss the Steamed Buns - they were excellent. The Tuna Poke was good but didn't have a lot of favor. Order the banana cream pie off the Manny's menu; it's big enough to share. Adam was a fun bartender and made a nice virgin fruit punch drink. More small plate choices would be helpful. Prices are higher for drinks and food. The view is wonderful.

Yelp
Prohibition bar is a little upscale, however they have great cocktails and service. It's more of a unique experience, tables wrap around the entire floor with some having more privacy. They also offer a VIP seating area above the bar, reservations only.

Yelp
This was a nice place to stop for a quick happy hour trip before my dinner reservation. Drinks were pricey but strong. The views were good but I thought they would be better.

Yelp
We had a great time getting drinks at Prohibition this weekend to kick off a friends wedding weekend. The drinks were yummy, the staff was nice and the views out the window were incredible. The bar sits atop the W hotel, on the 28th floor. My ears popped in the elevator, we were so high up! We were *those* people and brought our child with us. We were traveling from out of town and had no one to watch our daughter. They happily welcomed us in and gave her a water. :) We didn't stay long, maybe 45 minutes, since we didnt want to be too disruptive with a child. But we never felt like they were looking down on us or were annoyed.

Yelp
As of Jun 2022- this bar is not closed! The bar does not serve any food though (despite their online menu). If you want food, there is a restaurant on the first floor of the building (Manny's steakhouse $$$). The drinks were good and strong, and the view from the speakeasy was really awesome! If you walk around the speakeasy, you almost get a 360 view of the downtown area of Minneapolis!

Yelp
My buddy and I went to this bar after getting into town this past Friday. It was so crowded and the drinks were not that great and way over priced. We had to stand, which isn't a huge deal but there were a ton of people there. From what we could see, the views were good. I ordered an old fashioned and it tasted like a glass of straight Jim Beam. Overall, I don't think I'd go back to this bar.

Yelp
This is my favorite little spot to take people for special occasions- even the most Minneapolis-familiar folks haven't been here so it's fun to surprise them with such a beautiful view and fun ambiance! Every time I've been here in the past, I've always sworn I'm going to try new cocktails but their Epiphany is SO incredible I always went for that every time. It helps that one is all you need! Seriously, I've had to call Ubers home after ONE of these cocktails. My friends have tried various other cocktails that I've really enjoyed, the Genevieve's Holdout and More on That Later were both refreshing options. I'm now pregnant and sober so opt for mocktails these days, which also never disappoint. Some bartenders are more creative than others when coming up with a tasty non alcoholic choice but regardless, it's always nice to cheers to those celebrating with alcohol with something other than a Shirley Temple. Great place for those who drink and those who don't!

Nicole P.

Yelp
This is a really cool place to grab a drink. The view is super cool but better on some sides than others. There were times on a Saturday night where it got quite crowded but there was enough turn over for people to sit. The pictures make it look extremely fancy and it is a chic place but there was a wide range of people. Some were super casual in jeans and tshirts and others were dressed to the nines. Drinks were good, a little pricy but strong. Would definitely recommend a visit!

Yelp
Love the views from this bar at the top of Foshay, but unfortunately can't add many more positive comments. I visited recently with a large group. Service was slow. Drinks were tasty but significantly overpriced. A friend of mine ordered a glass of Prosecco and instead received (and was charged for) a glass of very expensive champagne (V Cliquot). It was absolutely freezing in the lounge (thermometer set to 61- so bring a coat!).

Yelp
Great bar with amazing views of the city. Several different rooms to pick from, with differing ambiences or just have a seat at the bar. The drinks are fabulous too!

Yelp
I came here for my birthday celebration and it was a perfect space for a group of 8-10 people. We reserved their loft space and it was $150/per hour for a minimum. All of us got drinks and food and we easily reached well over $150. Their food was surprisingly good too. We ordered flat breads, wings, grilled cheese, a fish dish, and more among everyone. I enjoyed the flat bread very much, and it wasn't terribly priced given the place. The drinks were about $13+ for cocktails. They were all super strong...I didn't really like the one I ordered but drank it anyway because it was pricey. The atmosphere is definitely what we came here for though...they had dark lighting, intimate and interesting seating throughout, and a great view of Minneapolis from the windows. Best of all, was that there was dancing right below us at the on the first floor (The Living Room), so it was a great place for a birthday party since you don't have to worry about getting a ride to the next place (if you only want to do a couple places).

Yelp
Prohibition is a bar with an identity crisis that just so happens to have terrific views of Downtown Minneapolis. While everyone should come here at least once, I think that there are many things they could do to become a truly great bar. Here's what's good and what's not. 1) The view! Great views of the city, although many of the tables are not set up to showcase that view as well as they could be. Still, like the "Top of the Mark" in San Francisco, this bar offers the city's best vantage point from which to enjoy a cocktail. 2) The drinks: Good, but not great. While both of us certainly enjoyed our cocktails, we've had better drinks downtown. For the prices they charge, patrons should expect (and receive) the best cocktails in the city to go with the best views of the city. 3) The happy hour: An affordable way to enjoy the view, although the drink selection is very limited, and don't even bother with the food. 4) The food: Pretty blah. We were not impressed with the happy hour appetizers, they were very small and pretty tasteless. 5) The atmosphere: Very strange indeed. Seating is half plush, intimate couches and chairs, and half business-like tables (there is also a bed). The music is night club, but quiet. The lighting is an odd and bright shade of purple. The result is a mix of couples on dates and business men/women doing business. They say they have a dress code, but I saw everything from expensive suits to jeans and casual shirts. Like I said: identity crisis. Again, everyone should come here at least once, but until they figure out who they really are, once is probably enough.

Yelp
Legend has it that the Forshay building, now where the W Hotel is located, use to be the tallest building downtown Minneapolis, the Prohibition bar which sits on the 27th Floor was the place to be. Well, times have changed and downtown Minneapolis has surpassed the Forshay building by many heights. I have clubbed at Prohibition and have had a couple happy hour rendezvous here as well and have had a good time. I think there are many other Happy Hour options downtown but there is a uniqueness to this spot. It can be seductive and hidden but also open and airy depending on the side of the room you choose to lounge in. Small to medium size groups are best for happy hour since the location is not that large. I like a drink or two but food is my main objective! The happy hour drink specials vary so I am not the best to give you an opinion about them. However, when it comes to their food and specifically, dessert I can be your point of reference because I will spare no detail. For a friend's birthday we celebrated at Prohibition during Happy Hour and got a spread. I will only comment on what I was able to take photographic evidence of. Their dry rub wings were basic but they were some juicy wings so they balanced out there. The cheese curds were some of the crispiest cheese curds I have ever had and a tad salty. Now, the brownie sundae cake concoction was the sure winner. For a group of 12 there was enough to go around. I mean, all they may have done is pile on pieces of brownies to make a tower and then put some whip creme with strawberries but don't forget the chocolate syrup and ICE CREAM! But whatever the effort, the result was on point!!! It was a winner for the birthday girl and the happy friends who took endless bites!

Yelp
Cool little spot to meet friends for a drink or date night spot! Lots of quaint seating options. I heard this used to be the pent house of the man who built this tower. Amazing views, good drinks - but pricey. Happy hour specials. Food is from Mannys steakhouse. Delicious but expensive

Patti G.

Yelp
A group of 12 from out of town stopped in for some pre-dinner drinks and had a blast. The bartender, Sully, was a wealth of knowledge and a fun bartender to watch. The drinks were next level (I had the tequila drink with the Szechwan Buzz Button) and it was a really fun beverage! We did not eat there. The service was amazing!

Yelp
I was wary of this place after reading reviews saying it was overrated, but my SO lives abroad, and I am only living in MPLS temporarily, so we thought a drink with a nice view of the city would be a cozy way to end his visit. Unfortunately, aside from the coziness, we were both pretty underwhelmed by this "speakeasy." There weren't very many windows, so you couldn't really see the view, even if you scored seating by the window. I was expecting floor to ceiling windows, but the windows were small, and you had to stand up to see anything nice. There was a small corner (next to the bar) that actually did have a good view, but it was restricted for parties of 6 or more only, and sadly, it was empty the whole time we were there. Seems like a waste when people are there to enjoy the view! I paid $15 for a Bailey's on the rocks, and my SO paid $15 for his cocktail. He enjoyed the cocktail, but overall, we both agreed that there are cozier ways to spend your evening around MPLS that give you more bang for your buck.

Tanna B.

Yelp
Super good espresso martini! It was creamy and strong! Had great flavor! Expensive but the bar itself is really cool and nice hangout spot too

Yelp
Prohibition offers a unique experience as you travel to the 27th floor of the Foshay, but the atmosphere is a bit strange and the prices are a bit high. My group split a giant Fish Bowl which was absolutely delicious and I recommend getting if your with a group of friends. We struggled to find a place to sit. Seating is very limited and certain areas are very dark with strange things happening at other tables and booths (trust me, you don't want to know). Honestly it was really fun getting the Fish Bowl, but I'm not sure I would venture back for anything else.
google avatar

Yelp
I took my mom and grandmother to the prohibition bar. Becky, our server, was absolutely wonderful. She spent a lot of time explaining the history of the building and gave attention to my nana's questions. I would absolutely recommend this lounge.
google avatar

Dondi D.

Yelp
Grabbed a drink after a long flight. Nice ambiance ... very nice views. But serving beers in cans? But I guess the other patrons got glasses so it may have been my lack of 'presence'.
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
My friend was celebrating her birthday and reserved the lofted space here. It was a very nice space and perfect for a small group of people. The drinks were very good and about $13-$20 for the cocktails. Which for a place like this is expected. Some drinks are more depending on what type of alcohol you choose. The food was quite good surprisingly. I ordered the dry rub wings. $15 for about 10ish wings give or take. It was more than I expected and they were some of the best wings I have had in a while! Super tasty and flavorful. They did not disappoint. The waitress and staff was very nice as well and accommodating. The reserved space I believe is $150 per hour. So if you order foods/drinks that get you to $150 then you are covered for the hour. Great place to have a birthday celebration, impress a date, or just have a fancy night with some friends!

Jeni H.

Yelp
The views are beautiful. The drinks are delicious, but you pay. As for the bartenders service we had on November 11... Horrible. If you are a person of color, others will be served before you. Even when another in line pointed out to the bartenders that you (the person of color) were there first. HUGELY disappointed. Last I knew, all money is green.

Yelp
Cool views and cool drinks. Nice service and a fun place for a little date or small group.

Yelp
After an EXTREMELY wonderful dinner, my friend brought me to the top of the Foshay tower for a view of the skyline and a few drinks at Prohibition, a high class lounge with plenty of space for sitting and chatting. A little on the dark side, but it was super cool and very much into the swank of cocktails and high end libations. I'd recommend their top notch and smooth drinking Epiphany. There's some history here. Prohibition used to be the private office of Wilbur Foshay, the man who built this tower. Mr. Foshay was convicted of running a Ponzi scheme but was given a full pardon many years later.
google avatar

Jean Y.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stopped here on the 27th floor after the observatory deck on the 31st floor around 5pm on a Saturday summer evening. This is a cute and chill place. I love, love the decor and the old history even though Mister Foshay was sneaky. We each had a cocktail and they were delicious and strong. We also shared an appetizer- the Tuna poké; which you order off the Manny's steakhouse menu from downstairs.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Despite a limited menu, they at least have some good beers, and during happy hour they are a good deal. The food menu is also limited, but that's OK, it's not supposed to be a full kitchen way up here. You come here for the views and the cool cozy rooms. It's a fun place to hang out once in while, or as my friend says, a good date place.
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
Prohibition was one of the first places I visited when I moved to MSP. I went here with a Meetup group (before I was on the Yelp Elite Squad, silly me) and thought it was a lovely intro to downtown. I went back shortly after, and got gussied up with some friends for a "girls night out". But years later, I think it has lost it's allure. Even though it has cool views in a busy area, it's become overrated and blehhh. I do like a nice 1920s/deco theme, but the rooms are too segmented and awkward to navigate through. The drinks are too pricey and nothing to write home about. And what with the many other speakeasies in the cities now (Volstead's, Al's Place, Marvel Bar, YJ Back Bar...), Prohibition has lost it's appeal and uniqueness. Lastly, the crowd it attracts just drives me up the wall now, like dbags and tourists. Anywho, this might be a spot to check out once if you like going downtown or want to explore the Foshay building, otherwise nahhhh.

Yelp
Went here on a date night, was wanting a big city spot with a view and this place delivers. We found a cozy spot up in the balcony and the pink lighting makes the scene. One of the best bars for feeling like you are not in Minneapolis and many of the windows have great views. The staff that is dressed in all black are professional experienced and service orientated. Will be back next time I need a big city fix!
google avatar

Zulu B.

Yelp
We came for an after dinner drink and ordered a Brown Derby and Blanton's. My drink was delicious and our bartender was very helpful in answering any questions that we had. The ambiance was quaint and cozy, but lacked some prohibition themed decor/attire. Seating is limited and some couches/rooms were reserved for private parties or groups of 6+. There was quite an eclectic group of people when we were there but hey, if that's what floats your boat, go for it I guess. On our way down, I couldn't see the elevator capacity but I'm sure we were overloaded because that was the longest 27 floor elevator ride I've ever taken in my life.
google avatar

Yelp
I heard this place was really fun and bougie and was excited to give it a try. The views are spectacular and the feel of the place was very retro - I loved it as soon as I walked in. But for what the bar was trying to represent - an upscale cocktail lounge - it fell extremely short. The cocktails were fine, but when I'm paying $14 for a drink I expect more than fine. Also the ice they used was the same kind of ice you would use in a water glass and the drinks became watery before we were halfway through them. I would expect an upscale cocktail bar to know that you need one large chunk of ice so that it doesn't melt as fast and won't water down the drink. The one waitress they had working was great, very helpful and knowledgeable... when you could find her. Not her fault she was hard to find, the bar itself was understaffed and she was doing her best. Whoever does their staffing needs to realize that one waitress isn't enough when you have 50+ people in a bar. The views are great and worth going to see - but I'd suggest going early before it gets too crowded, and maybe get a glass of wine.

Yelp
So in the W hotel in Minneapolis there are 2 bars. Prohibition is at the top of the hotel and quiet small with little windows and a tiny bar. The Living room downstairs is much better in my opinion. Though the bartender was really good and the clientel was very interesting (pot smoking/selling) girl from LA that was from Kentucky and littered with tats and jeans so low the crack of her ass was the first thing you saw when you walked off the elevator and who was there when I showed up at 6pm and came back for a night cap at 10pm....but I digress. Drink selection is exactly like the bar downstairs. Decor is not very nice....and it is a bit chilly there, plus with no good windows for a view at that floor level it was disappointing only able to look at the immediate surroundings (see girl above-grin). Worth a visit.........sure, if only to get a Yelp Check In on your smart phone...other than that...skip it.

Yelp
Fun place for an intimate conversation and great cocktails! Definitely a place I enjoy visiting when in the city.

Yelp
Super cool speakeasy-style bar overlooking downtown Minneapolis from the 27th floor of Foshay Tower. The drinks are well crafted but not terribly inventive, more just classic old school cocktails. A little pricey, a little posh, and very very small, it's a nice place to tuck away for a small group or one-on-one for a conversation. I dug it.

Yelp
I liked the vibe of this place. Foods are good because they bring from nanny's steakhouse. Drinks are good they can make good cocktail. Our server was so polite so cute (Jane). I'll come back

Yelp
It was hard to not give this one a five. Amazing drinks, luxurious setting and absolutely stunning views of downtown Minneapolis. I've been to Prohibition twice, and I'm sure I will visit again soon! To give you a little background info, Prohibition is a "speakeasy" on the 27th floor of the glamorous Foshay Tower. The tower has been converted into an upscale hotel--The W--and you can still visit the observation deck for Panoramic views of downtown. The bar was once a luxurious penthouse for Wilbur Foshay. Starting with the drinks; everything is fantastic and made to perfection. You can't go wrong with the Minnesota Mule, but the Maple Leaf is truly unique. This cocktail is the epitome of mixology--or at least I thought so at the time. Vanilla vodka, lemon and lime, orange juice, maple syrup and rimmed with vanilla sugar, if I remember correctly. The service is great, but not the most welcoming. I would wear something nice, because the staff and clientele will give you a side-eye if you're in your Twins hoodie. Also, the prices aren't great. You're looking at around $15 per cocktail, unless you visit on a weekday during happy hour, then they are only about $8.

Yelp
My husband and I came here on a recommendation and we were sooo impressed! We were pleasantly surprised to find out it was happy hour. We both ordered cocktails off the HH menu--they were more than happy to make me a mock-tail (due to me being pregnant). We had amazing seats on a couch tucked away in the corner which a view of the high rises. We stayed for over an hour just relaxing, talking, really enjoying ourselves!! They ended up comping my mock-tail which was so sweet and unexpected!! I guess that is why they mean by Minnesota-nice. :) we will definitely recommend this gem to friends and be back next time we are in town!

Yelp
I wish I had better service! Amazing drinks, fun options, and great ambiance but I wish there was more attentive staff! The dirty martini wasn't quite enough for me, it should have been dirtier. I ordered Belvedere, top shelf vodka, and I still feel that the waitress treated me like I ordered svedka. Very inappropriate considering I am paying for top shelf alcohol. Thank you to the bar but no thanks to my waitress!

Yelp
Meh. Kind of a weird vibe in here, very pink lighting and a mixed crowd (so pretty typical for a hotel bar). Drinks were fine, but nothing to write home about. Took a bit to get the waitress' attention, and she completely messed up one of our drinks. Also, the "views" from this place were very hyped up, but it's nothing special. The windows are pretty narrow so you can barely see anything when it's dark out anyway.

Yelp
We love it here. We stay at the Foshay to come here. Its limited seating so get here early and expect to be paying for a well made drink. The old time vibe in here is amazing. Great wine list and old fashioned cocktails. We would sit up here all night if you could.

Yelp
Every time I come here the experience gets exponentially worse. Drinks are mediocre and inconsistent. Last night I ordered an Old Fashioned that tasted like something served at a college bar, half water and horribly mixed, especially for one of the highest priced cocktails in Minneapolis at $16. I have had better cocktails around the city for half the price. Service was slow at around 10 minutes per drink. The thing I found most laughable are the gigantic signs at the entrance to both bars in the W Hotel that outline the required dress code: "Dress to Impress" with details about how clothes should be fitted. Those signs scream trashy. For a place that tells patrons to "dress to impress," Prohibition bar needs to step up their game and serve to impress.

Yelp
While the drinks are a bit steep, you are really paying for the ambiance and the fact that you're on the 27th floor. The views are truly stunning, and the layout is intimate, cozy, and inviting. A great spot for date night, friends night out, or just to grab a table by one of the windows and gaze out, because there really is no such thing as a bad seat in this joint.

Yelp
This unique bar is on the 27th floor of the Foshay tower which has now been converted to the W hotel. The entire atmosphere of the building is sophisticated and classy. The bar itself, which I would more describe as a lounge, has a 1920's era feel, most likely due to its roots as a speakeasy. The area is pretty small (maybe 10-15 tables/couches) and seat yourself so it's kind of hard to find a spot, especially during peak hours. There is the option of getting one of the lounge areas up some stairs with bottle service for $300. When we eventually found a spot there were amazing views of the city. Very relaxing vibe albeit somewhat exclusive. We ordered drinks that were tasty for sure but, in my opinion, overpriced. The bathrooms had an interesting open layout that was kind of fun. I would say the highlight of the bar was the service- our waitress, Shaleesa, was awesome. Very helpful and attentive. Even when I accidentally spilt my wine, she provided a complimentary refill. Overall, it was a fun experience for a night out with some friends!

Yelp
Should visit at least once. Very pricey for drinks but worth at least one drink to enjoy the unique atmosphere. Initial bartender was great - helpful and welcoming. After that service was very slow and disappointing.

Yelp
Great night views of the city on the 27th floor. The service is friendly and prompt. The cocktail menu is decent. A little something for everyone. The specialty cocktails are the same as the ones served on the first floor in 'The Living Room'. I had a Sazerac, which they make with Knob Creek Rye. It was very good. My second cocktail was a Makers Mark old-fashioned. A perfect way to cap off the evening, following dinner at Manny's Steakhouse, also on the first floor.

Yelp
I've been coming here on and off for 6 years. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed Prohibition yet! The place is gorgeous. Located on the 27th floor of the W Hotel inside the Foshay Tower, it opens at 5pm everyday. They used to have their Happy Hour from 5pm-7pm every day, but on our most recent visit we learned they changed that to Monday - Friday only, no more weekends. It was a treat to pay $5 for a luscious cocktail and always a nice surprise to see what kind of cocktails they would have that day. An Epiphany - the most beautiful cocktail ever! Grey Goose La Poire (pear vodka), St. Germain Elderflower liquer, and champagne. They place the orchid on the end of your glass, and you can drop it right inside if you wish. It was almost too pretty to drink! Bluephoria - another masterpiece. Stoli Blueberi, St. Germain, fresh squeezed lime, fresh blueberries. Absolutely delicious. I've had this cocktail twice now, and both times it almost "blue" me away. An excellent spot to enjoy some wonderful views of Minneapolis. The space is not very big, but it works well. Prohibition is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail before splurging on a magnificent dinner at Manny's Steakhouse. It has become a favorite of ours since living here. A definite must if you are staying at the W Hotel and visiting this city!

Yelp
I did not have an enjoyable time at Prohibition Bar. The waitress who served me was quite rude. I had paid cash for my drinks and she was clearly annoyed that I was not going to start a tab using a credit card. The waitress then asked me to see some i.d., I was the only one she carded. Other people around me were not carded. Just card everyone, regardless of their age. This waitress also did not represent the upscale "look" of the Prohibition Bar. She was wearing a mini skirt and leotard top. I was dressed much better than her. To top it all off, the service was very slow! Please treat everyone with respect or maybe she should go find another job.
