I have been a client for about a half a year ,and I'm very appreciative of the nourishment, it's balanced and mine are very tasteful- the breakfast bags are excellent. Max and Franklin as well especially as well as Rafael because he gets stuck with the lottery of what's behind the door when I answer- physical difficulties and the associated moods especially when there's even more piled in a short time- like I was attacked at home ,he was carrying and let me tell the storyto vent and always has asked from day one how I was - they care and it shows. Franklin sent me a list of apartments. When you're barely in your 50s and no one left became in a medical spiral they are Angeles. If you are in need for anything like this -please do at least check into them. There are a few, however when it became time to renew and I was given my choices of where- I instantly told my care manager to get ahold of Franklin and Max may have a question- but I say not needed because she figured out a healthy ,balanced, delicious diet and I appreciate all their diligence and care. Thank you there at P.A.F. P.S. My emotional support cat appreciates the tuna treats when I open the weekly can. Even Charlie D. Tunaslayer is appreciative.and that adds to my happiness. Thank you.

Truly disgusting. They left rotten food on my doorstep after I cancel the subscription. Cancel my subscription due to them not giving me what was needs or requirements.

Favorite community service I was a part of to this day. Staff are so funny and helpful. They love the hell and always ask you to bring along a friend for your next visit. They also let you have lunch at the end of all the meal preps. Super super OCD clean procedures which is great for food handling.

Google
Great, place to volunteer! Give them a call They can always use an extra pair of hands! I volunteer one day a week. But you can volunteer one day a month. I pack the food that is put on trucks for delivery. They deliver three meals, every day, seven days a week.

Kitchen culture is always playful and wonderful! Project angel food is no exception! They are full of light and love. Hold on to your hats and have a good time as you volunteer among the best of the best.

Project Angel Food has been a true lifeline, a beacon of compassion and nourishment during challenging times. Walking into their space, I immediately sensed a community dedicated to providing more than just meals – they offer comfort, support, and a profound understanding of the impact of health challenges. The meals provided by Project Angel Food go beyond sustenance; they are crafted with care and consideration for diverse dietary needs. The organization's commitment to delivering nutritious, medically tailored meals to individuals battling critical illnesses is evident in every bite. What sets Project Angel Food apart is the genuine care exuded by the staff and volunteers. Their kindness extends beyond the food delivery, creating a sense of connection and understanding that is truly transformative. It's not just a service; it's a lifeline that extends empathy and hope. Participating in Project Angel Food's community events and volunteer opportunities has allowed me to witness the broader impact of their work. The organization's dedication to fostering a community of care is palpable, reminding us that even in challenging times, we are not alone. My experience with Project Angel Food has been heartwarming and affirming. I wholeheartedly recommend this organization to anyone seeking not only nourishment for the body but also for the spirit. In choosing Project Angel Food, you're choosing a community that provides sustenance, care, and a sense of belonging.

I was sent to do a service call there. Impressed. Professional, busy, CLEAN!( yes, going to various places, as a plumber I see how really clean or dirty a place is, and that place is very clean. And whatever they were cooking that day smelled so good. The synergy of everyone there is a love of labor.

Yelp
Where does one begin when there is so much to say about this incredible organization? Let's start from the beginning. Project Angel Food prepares and delivers more than 1.5 Million medically tailored meals each year, free of charge to homes of men, women, and children affected by life-threatening illnesses. I became involved with them during the COVID-19 surge, recognizing that many community members are at home with limited resources. Driving and dropping off meals to medically fragile folks in Los Angeles was my way of giving back through the partnership with Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Opportunities extend past driving and delivering, so yesterday a group of us from CHLA decided to work on the prep/packaging lines to help with getting meals together for delivery. After a brief orientation that stresses the importance of hand hygiene and food handling, we were off to our stations of need. In the short period of 2.5 hours, we were able to collectively put together 1,200 meals as a team. If that isn't rewarding, I'm not sure what is. It is the staff that make this place shine. Each member of PAF is committed to serving with excellence. I need to shout out Travis who basically was everywhere anticipating the needs of the volunteers, and did it with a smile and humor. Marlene, was efficient and determined about their work, while being so helpful to our group as well. Holly always helps organize our volunteering experience and sets us up for success through her communication and organization. Volunteering is fulfilling, meaningful, and keeps me grounded. Giving my time to PAF is more than rewarding, it is habit forming. This non-profit is worthy of your time and efforts, with ample opportunities to participate. You can donate directly to them or offer your time but either way, you are helping the lives of others who are in a very fragile state. Project Angel Food is where my heart is, preparation is as important as handing the bags filled with nutritious foods to the families in need. We all contribute in different ways, so think about how you would like to make a difference. I know this is the PAF Yelp review, but I must give credit to Olga Taylor from CHLA who helps set up and provide our organization at CHLA opportunities for community service. For volunteering opportunities and guidelines, visit their website.

Yelp
Great place to volunteer at whether you're with a group or on your own. You get to meet new people and really see how a kitchen works, except it's definitely more friendly than what's shown in the Bear Hulu show. Location is conveniently located in the heart of Hollywood. They have their private parking lot which is very helpful! Our shift started at 8:15am and orientation was about 10 minutes. Then you wash your hands, get your kitchen attire (net, gloves, apron), and get assigned your station. We were chopping veggies, seasoning items, slicing cake, and even packaging the ready made meals for deliveries! There's so much you can help with and staff are friendly, even when everyone's running around everywhere. And if you like, you can eat there after your shift too. Overall, I would totally come back again!

Roxxy G.

Yelp
Visited this place thru my employer, the experience overall was great, it makes you feel like you did something good by helping others who are in need by donating your time in order to help prepare meals for those who aren't able to. Down side was that one of the guys there Im guessing he was in charge of something was talking bad about us saying we didn't know what we were doing and we were doing things wrong, obviously we are not professional cooks or food preparers but we all tried our best and that wasn't cool. Overall experience was good, you leave there tired but feeling like you did a good deed.

Yelp
Very kind and welcoming people work here. I volunteered twice and had a wonderful time collaborating with people in the kitchen towards a great cause.

Yelp
Elitist to the core, not for real people in need. Been here since 3;15 and leave hungry at 4. I got here being a person with HIV I haven't ate today. At 3:15 on Sat nobody here; but plenty of people outside with bags of food to deliver. They all said it the same. "Someone is inside. After using my $ to get here nobody can answer the door in front or back like the people delivering food said to me. They looked at me like I was crazy. Only crazy for food. None could offer the food they had all around them.

Sam W.

Yelp
I'm looking into another service similar to Angel food because I've been a client for several years and the deliveries keep shrinking getting smaller and smaller...and I don't appreciate waiting for their deliveries and I have to call to see if I'm still receiving it...I highly recommend for whoever is looking into becoming a client look for an alternative

Yelp
Wonderful organization to volunteer with! Orientation was quick and efficient. My colleagues and I had a rewarding experience. Would definitely volunteer again at Project Angel Food. Thank you for the heartfelt experience.

Yelp
Project Angel Food is such a great place. They prepare meals in packages and partner with other organizations to deliver them to people who are house-bound due to health issues or are otherwise in need for meals. My exposure to them has been on the volunteer side. I've organized groups from my place of work to volunteer here. You'll have to go through orientation, which is mainly about food safety. After that, you're off to work. Hair nets, gloves, and aprons are provided. They do put you to work, so you should be prepared. I've done various things like: chopping bags and bags of onions, joining an assembly line to make lasagna, rolling burritos, portioning partition trays, and even sealing the meal trays. It's fun, and you're doing a good thing for people. Win-win.

Yelp
recent employee for 2 years. this place is absolutely toxic. no one cares about the mission anymore just earning money for an 80 million dollar building. they can't pay their employees properly with all that money. it is the most fake place I've worked in my life of work. HR and the ceo and everyone above you are complete trash and no help. My clients have complained many times that the people are fake and rude and the food is trash and they throw it away. It has many lawsuits and more to come because of HR not knowing his job.

Yelp
Once I attended the orientation 2 weeks ago I immediately signed up for volunteering and have already done 2 half days and 1 full day. The people I've met have been amazing from the volunteers to the chefs and the PAF team who manage this awesome NPO. I've always hesitated to do something like this but now I've thrown myself in I'll be looking for similar opportunities wherever I travel in the world. What a great way to make friends who all share a common goal - to help the needy. Thank you Project Angel Food for all you do !!

Yelp
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of volunteering with fellow Yelp Elites. Firstly, a huge thanks to Katie B. for arranging this great experience. I've been wanting to volunteer with Project Angel Food (PAJ) for a few years now, but life gets in the way and I never found time. Katie was able to schedule a time and date for a small group of us and I made sure to be available for it. I worked alongside some other great and hardworking Yelpers to get the task at hand done, which was to prepare and package meals for those who truly need the assistance. Robert from PAJ shed some light on the company, its history and walked us through the orientation process for new volunteers. Just listening to him speak about the company and the good being accomplished already made me feel like I was about to embark on something great and do something that would help others. After orientation and washing our hands continuously and aggressively, we "suited up": hairnet, apron, gloves - and continued on to accept our given task. Some of us were serving food on trays, others were shrink wrapping and packing ready-to-go meals, but I got the task of meal prep - which was great! I love cooking so following a recipe was a piece of cake, but only with the assistance of Juan, the kitchen manager. With the assistance of other Yelpers, I made an apricot sauce for the roasted chicken thighs that someone else had cooked and prepared mashed sweet potatoes. Once these two sides were done, we swiftly formed a conveyor belt that scooped, poured and ladled even portions of food into trays and set them on racks to be packaged. It really does take a lot of elbow grease to get this job done and you will break a sweat, but it's so worth it! I left with a smile on my face knowing that my hard work will benefit someone and the satisfaction of this experience is my own; I'm being rewarded by being able to help others. Plus, I got to meet some awesome Yelpers. I didn't expect to be rewarded for performing volunteer work, but Katie graciously treated us to lunch. She's got a heart of gold. Thank you again!

Yelp
PAF kept saying they would call and they didn't. When I finally tracked someone down they said they'd deliver on Wednesday and they never showed up. I understand nonprofits like this can be overwhelmed but if clients like myself can't depend on them at all, they aren't doing a good job. The day after they didn't show up like they said they would I called and canceled them. I'd heard some anecdotal reports of how good they were but this was pathetic.

Cassandra Y.

Yelp
One of the best organized non-profit I have ever known. They have been in the community for years. They have lots of supporters including celebrities. They spread out the awareness to the public. They have done lots of fund raising. They have many volunteer opportunity, in the office, in the kitchen, etc.

Yelp
**FUN VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE** Thanks to Katie B. and Yelp, I was able to volunteer for a worthy cause! ABOUT ====== They prepare and deliver around 1,200 meals daily with people like us. That's a WIN! PARKING ======== 922 Vine Street between Willoughby and Barton. Free parking behind the building and parking on the street. VOLUNTEER =========== 8:00AM-11:30AM Watched an Orientation Video and then: - Scooped rice into trays. - Packed food into bags. - Defrosted and seasoned chicken parts. (I didn't break a nail, thank you!) OVERALL ========= The shift went by fast. Had a great time getting to know the volunteers and staff (thank you, Dan and Chef John)! Love the good feelings and vibes of volunteering! HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you have some free time.

Paul D.

Yelp
Well, I do not want to come across ungrateful but of late especially the meals have NOT been good! Reminiscent of the "Hamburger helper" meals one may recall and compare to. I enjoy the breast chicken & green beans, carrots mostly. The shredded chicken surprise is dreadful! Also, it would be better if the delivery personnel did NOT wear T-shirts advertising "Project angel food" . Some people prefer a level of privacy and that does NOT screams the person getting food has a terrible sickness, poor... Nothing wrong with that but when neighbors start gossiping it, feeling sorry for you etc.... It is problematic. People get food deliveries all the time now like normally dressed delivery personnel. Is it that important to advertise the brand "Project angel food"? That is concerning to me and quite bothersome.

Yelp
Project Angel Food provides the much needed service of delivering three meals a day to the homes of people who have serious diseases and can not muster up the strength to work or cook for themselves. Knowing you will have food on the table alleviates the stress and financial trouble of finding your own food, so the patients can focus on other aspects of their lives. How is it possible that they can crank out three meals a day, every day, for these folks and still have time to hand deliver them? Yes, you guessed it...that's where the volunteers come in. Volunteering at Project Angel Food is as rewarding as it is fun. We attended a quick orientation where they showed us a really cheesy video, then we were on the floor, gloved, aproned, netted, and put to work. Our group of Yelpers were divided to do different tasks. Some scooped cereal into plastic packages, others pried off defrosted chicken, and I was put in an assembly line portioning food to be shrink wrapped. The meals are healthy and look filling, and after they are wrapped TV-dinner style, the meals for the day are packed into styrofoam boxes and are ready to go. The three hours we were there passed by quickly, and I really would have been okay with working a longer shift. Maybe it was because I got to work with yummy smelling granola instead of raw chicken! Sorry, Katie and Betty! I believe they feed you too for your time, but we dipped out to get salad together. It was a pleasure and a privilege to help this worthy organization, and I would not hesitate at the opportunity to go back again! It would probably be a fun idea for a date too :). Definitely left feeling better and filled with purpose.

Yelp
I believe I have truly mastered the art of being in a food production line as well as increased the muscle size on my left arm in just a few mere hours of volunteering! So I jumped at the chance to volunteer....especially a chance to volunteer AND mingle with fellow yelpers! We met up early in the morning at 8am to check out their cute and quirky orientation video, signed some waivers, then were led downstairs to wash our hands, put on plastic aprons and ugly hairnets. We got a mini tour and I was in awe at the efficient system they have. Different stations for peeling, dicing, cutting, cooking, scooping, and packing. Everything was SUPER CLEAN AND SPOTLESS. I specifically got to scoop BEANS...yes, thats right!...I hate beans and I got stuck with them for a good hour or two....my specific food line was super fast...A LITTLE TOO FAST because we finished wayyy ahead of the anticipated time and my left arm was seriously about to fall off from the continuous scooping motion but I LOVED IT! The food is then placed into small microwavable trays (like TV dinners) and frozen then delivered in batches of 7 meals inside styrofoam boxes. I noticed that even dessert was included...super awesome! In total, I believe we made 1200 meals that day. This nonprofit organization caters meals to sick people (HIV, cancer, end stage diseases) in the LA area by providing them with fresh healthy meals. Some of the food is even tailored to specific dietary restrictions such as vegetarian and renal diets. I highly recommend people who have extra time on their hands or would simply like to give back to the community to volunteer. You show up whenever YOU like and just offer to help out. Its a great feeling. TRUST ;)

Yelp
Volunteered for a few hours for the first time at Project Angel Food's kitchen in Hollywood in a global collaboration with my company to give back around the world on 6/11 of this year. I've made feed bead bracelets for them many years ago, from our office before but had never been to this location. What a treat it was although I should have had breakfast and coffee before arriving but rushed to get here by 8A for orientation. I helped load hundreds of meals into their sealing machine, scooped rice and beans for awhile, baked cookies, packaged cookies and called it a morning! I'll definitely consider PAF in the future when looking to help out. It's amazing how many people they provide meals for. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was solely me and my connection to the place, I've volunteered with Dress for Success and the LGBT Los Angeles Center in the area and felt those, "felt" a bit more meaningful to me which strikes me as odd given hunger is a cause near and dear to my heart and here we were actually prepping, cooking, and preparing the meals for delivery but I felt a bit detached. Maybe it was my lack of caffeine, who knows! But I'm certainly looking forward to helping out here again soon. Like many other reviews, this place runs like a well oiled machine once things get started and it's pretty amazing to see just how much gets accomplished in a short amount of time with the help from their volunteers and staff. Definitely a place worth looking into if you are looking for a way to give back in your community.

Snigdha D.

Yelp
What an amazing place! I volunteered here once and loved it. They make and deliver meals to people with critical illnesses. Volunteers can spend a half day helping to prepare/package meals. You do not have to be a cook. They tell you exactly what to do in very simple terms. I am glad there is an organization like this to help those with debilitating illness have healthy hot meals.

Jennica S.

Yelp
Still volunteering months later and LOVE it!! Super Friendly chefs with positive attitudes that really know how to cook Great, fresh food for a great cause. Come with a positive attitude and be willing to help with anything and you'll be fine! Friday morning shifts between 8am-1230pm are best and my Favorite time to volunteer cuz its not too crowded and Chefs John and Daniel are super nice and fun to work with. Afterwards, they usually make lunch for the Volunteers as a Thank You for helping out. Gotta say, I'm damn proud to be an Angel!!

Christopher P.

Yelp
It's like...an industrialized version of Union Rescue Mission. Prep food, cook it, package it, deliver it to those in need - mostly HIV and cancer patients, I believe. I mostly helped with packaging the food, a fun experience that made howevermanyso hours go by fairly quickly. If you have an opportunity to volunteer, I highly recommend it (and I mean that almost anywhere, not just here). Exciting tidbits: - Parking is available behind the building - All your fellow volunteers are people who love to serve - amazing people, in other words - One of the many beautiful Los Angeles angel wings paintings is on the side of this building - fitting and amazing. Cue the Instagram photos! - They recently celebrated packaging and providing 100 MILLION meals! I think we packed 1200 meals that day, ahhh-may-zeeeng! And always a perk, I made some friends =]

Yelp
Volunteered for the first time today after taking orientation 2 months ago. Started at 8am and was done at noon. Juan, the staff chef on Sunday, was very nice, funny, friendly, grateful, and good with people. The org is very well run, focused on keeping volunteers happy and Robert the volunteer coordinator is also great to work with. You park in the lot right behind the bldg whereas staff have to somehow find neighborhood parking. You can get free lunch when you volunteer in the kitchen from about 12pm-1pm. I came with my boyfriend and we worked together for the first 30 min and the last hour. Aside from that you do various tasks that Juan assigns you. I sauteed, cooked, measured, mixed, stored, sorted, and plated all sorts of food! I also saw my bf chopping zucchini, bagging, labeling, opening cans, and gathering supplies when we weren't doing QA of the beans and plating the beef patties and penne. The huge industrial kitchen was neat. The stirring paddle was almost as tall as me! Juan is running around the whole time checking in on about 20 people who are all doing different tasks; amazing mgmt skills. The kitchen is big so you don't feel cramped. Wear comfy shoes! You stand a lot. Everyone is nice and friendly and all ages and backgrounds. Some volunteer for fun (us), some would rather do it vs paying a traffic ticket, some need school credit for HS or college. We plan on doing this every other month. Here are some guidelines. Please remember the following essentials: * Please arrive promptly at 8:00am for your orientation. We will begin your orientation when all the participants arrive. * Please wear closed-toe, rubber-soled, flat shoes when working in the kitchen. No sandals. * Wear comfortable clothes (No cut-offs/mid-riffs, cap sleeves or tank tops, please)--shorts are okay when working in the kitchen. * No hanging jewelry. * You will need to cover your heads so either bring a baseball cap or we will provide hairnets. * Your AM kitchen shift will end around 12noon * If anyone on your team is sick, please ask them to stay home. Many of our clients have very low immune systems and we don't want to compromise them. * You will be encouraged to take staggered breaks throughout the shift. Please don't all take a break together.

Yelp
Project Angel Food was a lifesaver after our 95-year-old neighbor became bedbound. We were fortunate to have heard about them through another neighbor who had used the service. The meals were delivered like clockwork every Monday. The offerings were super nutritious and tasty. I was continually impressed by the quality and variety of the dishes. Customer service was outstanding as well. They were extremely responsive whenever I reached out to them. PAF is an amazing organization to help people in need. Keep up the great work!

Linda K.

Yelp
I just got home from volunteering at Project Angel Food. What a great experience! I've done lots of volunteering in my life, but this stands out as the best experience. I volunteered in the kitchen cutting vegetables for a couple of hours. As other Yelpers have mentioned, it's definitely a well oiled/organized machine. It was a good feeling knowing that a couple of hours of work can make such a difference in so many people's lives. The kitchen is kept very clean. They really are organized & flexible at the same time in making sure that the meals go out to their clients. The quality of the food that they prepare for the meals is very impressive. It sure smelled good in the kitchen while the meals were being prepared! What a treat to be served such a delicious lunch, too. :):) Many thanks to Holly & the other staff members for such a great volunteer experience. I look forward to coming back very soon.

Yvonne D.

Yelp
This is an amazing organization that I had the pleasure of knowing when my mother was a client. My mother suffered from Parkinson's, Dementia and other medical ailments, when it came to caring for her, cooking her nutritious meals was challenging because of her dental and dietary condition. Project Angel Food was there for her every Monday, come rain or sun or holiday, with fresh and sometimes warm holiday meals. They have exceptional food, fruit and desert for there clients, they are punctual and always professional. This is an organization that I will continue to support. I will always be thankful for all they did, while she was a client.

Simone T.

Yelp
I guess if laughter is the best medicine, then charity work must be curing. I had a great time here with my fellow yelpers volunteering in the kitchen. The staff here is so friendly, helpful, and very appreciative. Like other reviews have said this place is ran like a well oiled machine, they will utilize all the time you are able to give. My duties for the day were packing up breakfast bags with fruit, cereal, milk, yogurt, oatmeal, raisins, and cheese. The time went by so fast, from chatting it up with my work partner Sean M., to the very entertaining Betty N. and the singing duet who knew the words to every song. I'm glad I had the time to help and I will definitely do it again. Thanks to the sweet Katie B. who passed out freebies and food coupons at the end of our shift, appreciate it.

Jes A.

Yelp
After my experience here last Friday, all I could think to myself was: "What an incredible system they have set up. What a well run organization!" There is SO much need in LA and too many places are subject to poor management and bad planning, rendering them ineffective, but not Project Angel Food. Going 25 years strong, preparing 1200 meals daily, about to deliver their 10 millionth meal - to people who are too sick to work or grocery shop, let alone prepare a nutritious meal for themselves. I can't express how impressed I was with every aspect of my experience here and can't recommend giving your time here enough.

Michael P.

Yelp
I've been receiving meals from this program since 2000. These meals come in coolers that lobsters are delivered in, wished I'd get a few of those thrown in sometime! At first it was a hot meal delivered every day with a light snack for later, then in 2005, they begin a cooler delivery program on Wednesdays from 11AM-3PM, which consisted of 7 pre-made meals, all portioned out and an entree, side and vegetable. They deliver with this cooler, oranges, apples and just about every fruit in season and that makes [ THIS FRUIT ] happy. Oh, they throw in some cookies and animal crackers too. =============================================================== With the many medications I take for studies for a cure for AIDS, HIV/AIDS, MTFSR, anxiety, OCD and pain, these meals specially prepared for me are welcome, so welcome that my dietary needs are met and if you doctor some of them up a little they really are gourmet! The staff are wonderful and if you need to cancel deliveries, just let them know, they will restart when you designate them to do so. I am truly grateful for what I receive and, grateful for those much less fortunate than I yet knowing that they get meals to help them keep fed and healthy only adds to the gratification in my heart. The dieticians here are very helpful and will design any type of meals you need to suit your needs, medications and tolerance of dietary needs. I still work in the scope of work as a PA-C & LCSW, and many of our patients receive these meals too, the benefits are tremendously obvious, especially on your Birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas when you receive a bag full of donated items that bring tears to your eyes letting you know you are loved and thought of too. Also, to ALL of the volunteers-THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! You ALL are truly my ANGELS of the day & the night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhY4jemcGyw

Yelp
One of my new year's resolutions was to start volunteering regularly, and I finally got started in February. So far I'm really happy with my choice of nonprofit because I really wanted to work with food, and work with my hands in a place that I could attend regularly but that I could also be flexible with schedule wise as I occasionally travel for work. Project Angel Food has provided all of that for me and I really admire what they're doing for those suffering from HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other terminal illnesses in the LA area. Once you get a tour of the facility (they require you to do an orientation before you can begin), you realize what a well oiled machine this place is. The kitchen is always spotless and they really seem to have their system down. It's been great chatting with the full-time chefs in the kitchen as well as the fellow volunteers. Occasionally they'll have big school groups or corporate groups come in, but there are always the stragglers like myself who just want to volunteer on their own. My favorite part of this experience so far is that when you show up they actually have things for you to do. If you're not packing the meals for that day's deliveries, you're prepping for the next day. They also have needs for their special events, fundraising, and admin. After four hours in the morning, I feel tired but in a good way! It's nice to actually jump in and help out instead of standing around like I have done at other volunteer organizations. I'm excited to continue my run with Project Angel Food and hope others join too!

Yelp
This is a charity that provides meals to people with AIDS and other serious illnesses. They also provide volunteer opportunities, both in the kitchen and on the road. I went with a group of people to work their morning kitchen shift today, from 8 am to 12:30 pm. It was a lot of work (we were standing the whole time while we chopped, stirred, and packed meals), but it's fun getting a group of people together to churn out hundreds of meals in a huge, industrial kitchen for a good cause. Note that just because I chose to work the entire morning and so stood for 4 hours straight, that doesn't mean it's a requirement that you not take any breaks. Volunteers are free to take a short break once in a while; I just wanted to keep going once I got started! NOTE: They just moved about 5 weeks ago. Their new address is not on Yelp yet, but it's 922 Vine Street Los Angeles, CA 90038 Phone: 323-845-1800 Volunteer Hotline: 323-845-1816 Client Services: 323-845-1810

Yelp
I've been looking for a fun volunteer gig! I was stoked when I saw that there was an organized volunteer event through yelp! I took a Friday off work to volunteer for a few hours and don't regret it at all. Everyone was really friendly and nice here! Our group was separated into small groups, some were preparing food and some helped pack the food. I got to pack food with Andre and he was super cool and friendly. Enjoyed answering questions about the organization and joked with us a lot. It's fine because after a while you get into a grove and it's quiet cathartic to be doing some mindless motions for a while. I know that doesn't sound fun, but i promise it is! Time flies. Note: Ladies, you will need to tie your hair up or have it in the hair net. It does warm up, unless you're near the freezing packing food. I can't wait to come back and volunteer!

Yelp
My experience at Project Angel Food could not have been better! This organization is a well-oiled machine both in the administration and operations department. It's a relaxed yet professional atmosphere and everyone who works there/volunteers on a regular basis really takes the time to make new volunteers feel comfortable. The program itself is awesome and such a wonderful service to the community. An aside: As someone who cringes at the thought of eating at "B" rated restaurants, going behind the scenes in an industrial kitchen that has such high food handling standards just reinforced my unwillingness to budge on the issue.

Yelp
Such a great experience volunteering here! Volunteered with my Alum group one am and the staff & volunteers make this such a great experience that you can't wait to go back! Our 3hrs flew by as we helped package and make meals. Such a great organization and will definetly volunteer there again. They even have an automated volunteer login system and such a fun & nice staff!

Yelp
I've been a part of Project Angel Food for a couple years now. It's been a fulfilling experience. I remember making a beet salad the first time. The master chef was a super cool guy. Gave me some directions and I was off with one of the associate chefs. We cut, peeled, wash, sorted and baked to no end. After our three-hour shift, he made us some really good pizza from scratch, right out of the oven. I should've taken another slice cuz it was all gone by the time I was ready for seconds. I have a group reservation for 10 participating in a July event; definitely looking forward to spreading the word even more.

Yelp
I volunteer for Project Angel Food and am a donor. It's mission is beyond reproach. The staff and volunteers and leadership are dedicated to help those in need. Please get involved and donate or volunteer. You will have made someone's day just a little bit better.

Yelp
I volunteered as a CSULA alumni and it was a wonderful and fun experience. We all prep, cooked and packed fresh food to people who have terminal illness like HIV, Cancer and etc. The lady in the office is very nice and the chefs are so much fun and professional. My friend and I met great people, student chefs, many volunteers. We all got along and joked around with the chefs. I would volunteer again of I lived closer. Chef Jose and both chef Daniels are cool.

Yelp
Glad I was able to volunteer for a few hours with the help of Yelp and Katie B. Its always great to help out worthy organizations like this who provide 1,200 meals daily to folks with cancer, HIV, and other serious ailments. I have to say the shift was a lot of fun and the time went by fast. My job was packaging chicken down the line , and then makings hundreds of granola snacks. I recommend lending a helping hand from 8:00am to 11:30am if you have the time..... its well worth it.

Yelp
What an unexpected disappointment... It would seem that Project Angel Food demands that any prospective client essentially be on their death bed before they are eligible for any services provided by PAF. Before I learned this, I thought of PAF as being a non-profit that actually helps a wide array of people. However, when I looked closer into their operations, I learned that they only come to the aid of someone when they are critically ill and not expected to live. Well, guess I'm not gonna donate to PAF. Seriously, someone has to be close to death BEFORE PAF helps them? This is what PAF is about?... Really? What a letdown, sigh...

Yelp
Great cause and excellent set up. Spent the day preparing meals for those that are homebound and left feeling like I made a difference as small as it may be!

Yelp
This organization is wonderful to work for. I volunteered several years ago and now that I'm back in LA I look forward to getting back to it. The work in the kitchen is enjoyable, exhausting and incredibly worth it. I can't think of a better organization to dedicate time to, The people are friendly and the experience is rewarding. Sign up!

Yelp
I'm currently workin with PAF and it's really a pleasure. All employees are great kitchen, very clean and sanitary. I greatly incourage culinary students to ther externships with PAF, very educational for people who is new to the kitchen.

Yelp
Oh man! Michelle is too quick for me. I thought I was gonna be the first. I was in the same group that Michelle was in at Project Angel Food. Like Michelle said, it was alot of fun. Considering that these people have to coordinate with different volunteers everyday, things went relatively smooth. They start the day off with a testimonial video with U2's "beautiful day" as the background music that makes you so pumped up about helping that you almost wanna run through a wall after watching the video. I took off one star because even though they said we can take a break when we needed it, when we were on the food packaging assembly line, it was very difficult to coordinate the breaks. Most of us did not take a break over the 4 hr period simply because we were busy all the time, and we did not want to hold anything up. But We packaged approx. 800 lunches in 4 hours. The sweat was all worth it. I think our group will be going back again.
