"Side Chicks and all Project Pollo locations, except for the one in Rosewood, will be gone soon. In an Instagram post, owner Lucas Bradbury said that by Sunday, April 30 all the buildings, staff, and infrastructure would be turned over to an undisclosed national chain." - H. Drew Blackburn

I ordered the Nasville hot chick'n and everything about the burger was on point. The bun, the sauce, the spices, flavor and texture. This was one of the best vegan chick'n burgers I've ever had. Next time I come back I want to try another sandwich and their soft serve oatmilk milkshakes. My cousin ordered one of the chick'n wraps and tater tots and although she is not a vegan she ranked this spot very high on her list of vegan restaurants #3.

AMAZING! Everything about this place is fantastic. Combining your love for fast food with a passion for animals and the community, this restaurant is packed with excellent taste, superb quality, affordable pricing and extremely friendly customer service! The staff was really accommodating. We came here to try some of their food and it was even better than expected. I absolutely love that this business has “pay what you can” for a couple of their menu options which helps those that can’t afford a regularly priced meal, and has a strong involvement in the community to make vegan/plant based food more affordable and accessible for all. It’s basically a cruelty free KFC that tastes even better. Tons of chik’n options, Mac n cheese, fries and milkshakes. They also use eco-friendly boxes and plastic ware. A great way to turn anyone on to vegan food and eating animal-free meals. Also has dog-friendly seating outside! Great for the whole family.

Google
WOW this place. I wish I could give more stars! This is the juiciest vegan chicken I’ve ever had! Everything was delicious! The fries, the sandwiches, omgg! Can’t wait for them to be in Houston so we can ho every day 😂 Service is friendly and helpful, place is cute and clean. Theu have a small outside sitting area so it’s mostly to go BUT is definitely worth it. Will be coming back to Austin more ofter just for this place.

GET THE NASHVILLE HOT CHICKEN SANDO! You will not regret it! I forgot to snap a picture because I scarfed it down but wow so impressed. Another time prior I ordered the spicy chicken (pictured) and I felt like it was more soggy than I liked. Also, ordered loaded fries and do not recommend for takeout they get soggy so quick. Still taste delish. I love this place!

Google
We came straight from the women's USA soccer game... it was almost closing, but everyone working was awesome! It was our first time and everything was super yummy! They were very helpful in suggesting what to order and what was their favorite! We got the loaded papas (fries), Buffalo mac and cheese, Ceasar chikn wrap, and deluxe sandwich. We heard they are coming to Katy, tx and we are excited.

Had only two lunches at Austin and both were here. Amazing and super fast. Vegan chicken burgers redefined! 🌱 Would love to see this restaurant in Miami and in Chicago. Would be very successful!

Google
I was very excited to check this place out. Food is great. I had one bad experience here in 95° weather when they had no ice. Other than that, this place is dope. I'm glad they're growing. [They are labeled a dine-in option and inside was locked. Some of ordered sodas and the rest of us drank water. We were sweating like crazy and we had to dine outside. They had no ice. No warning. No apology or solution to drinking warm soda. No refund. There were eight or nine of us. I couldn't wait to brag about the experience to other veggie head friends of mine until my family melted into a puddle on the sidewalk alongside the restaurant.] That wasn't fun. But I forgive them. I like what they stand for and I've been told about how much the company gives to the homeless and has a "pay what you can option". Alot of really great people eat here too. Great food. Great people.

If I could give a million I would!! Best chicken sandwich in our lives was there, we stayed a day and a half in Austin and ate ((twice)) there and took some to go back to Houston! No words to describe the flavors and the textures!!

Yelp
This is a really special place!!!! The first thing that struck me is the logo - the sweet chick, and upon entering, all the cool and loving artwork on the walls. It's just a really cool spot. Everything on the menu sounds so delicious it's difficult to choose: but I tried the Nashville Hot Chicken Burger and the Garlic Wings. I'm obsessed with both of them. The Nashville Hot sauce wasn't spicy - it had a huge depth of flavor and major umami going on. The fries were some of the best I've ever had, which is so important for a burger spot but too often the fries fall short. The garlic sauce covering the wings - I want it on everything. Their sauces are absolutely 100% on point and I would buy everything bottled in a heartbeat. Special shout out to the bread which was like a nostalgia time travel back to cherished childhood fast food moments. I love what they're doing and I'll be back.

Yelp
Well i had heard a lot about this place because it's a texas chain but after trying it i mean it wasnt bad but it was way too oily there was no chikn it was just like barely any chickn and only oily fried breading. What i thought was hot sauce was the oil lol and i ended up with a project pollo lip gloss overload lol with oily buns and oily pickles lol

Annie Y.

Yelp
Project Pollo completely blew my expectations. I had no idea what it was going in and my friends and I quite literally made a random stop here and it was one of the best decisions we made that day. We went on a Tuesday which is also their 2 for $12 chicken (VEGAN) sandwich day so we got a definite bang for our buck. AND if you check in on Yelp, you get a free mint oreo milkshake. The two sandwiches that I got were the Original Project and Nashville Hot Chicken. Not gonna lie, I did not know it was a vegan restaurant. I was expecting a full blown chicken in my sandwich and it wasn't until halfway through my sandwich that my friends told me it wasn't chicken. I was very pleasantly surprised aside from missing the chicken chicken texture, nothing was amiss which left me very thoroughly impressed. - Nashville Hot Chicken: This was extra extra juicy. Literally the sauce was dripping down our hands when we were eating it and it was one of the most filling and delicious sandwiches that I have had (I was also very hungry). The sandwich was well balanced, it was overly heavy or light. The crunch of the fake chicken and the sauce was literal chef's kiss. In my opinion, it wasn't really super spicy, there was a very minor kick to the sauce, if anything, I wish there was a stronger flavor in the sauce. Everything else was great, loved the bread, great toppings, and it came out extra hot & crispy. - Original Project: I saved this sandwich to microwave and eat for later. I thought it was a pretty solid choice. I think this is a great starter sandwich just to get an idea of what they offer but compared to the Nashville Sandwich, this didn't have as much flavor. But the each individual aspect of the sandwich was well cooked and still delicious after microwaving it. - Mint Oreo Milkshake: I loved the way it was packaged. It was super cute. I personally thought it was way too sweet for my taste but this is a great option if you do have that sweet tooth. The consistency was on the thicker side. This place has a major fast food vibe which it kind of is but the employees were so attentive and nice. He kept on checking in on us to make sure we had everything we needed and was really great with all the customers. I would for sure come back and try their mushroom burger!!

Ryan G.

Yelp
Wait, I had to do a double take because I thought this was actual chicken. Price Taste Ratio = Fantastic. The Original Sandwich with extra pickles and sauce on the side was exceptional. The Hot Nashville - Stunning. Incredible. This sandwich for a non-chicken eater is truly a showstopper. Highly recommend. I definitely recommend to anyone that is a Vegan, Vegetarian or has a Poultry Intolerance to try this sandwich and restaurant out! As a chicken eater I will be going here again!

Yelp
Unfortunately, this is the second time this has happened to me. I have very clearly ordered wings, and they send shitty tenders and tots. Also, I ordered buffalo and garlic parm wings... and they send nuggets and tots with 2 buffalo sauces. Make it make sense??? You can choose to not accept an Uber eats order when it comes in. Especially when you know you won't be delivering the correct item. I normally love project pollo but this is just insane when it keeps happening. Are you out of wings? If so, why would you send an order through when you KNOW the customer is not going to receive what they spent money on. I just don't get it and I am sad. I feel swindled just to get some cash. Loved supporting this plant based spot, but will not be ordering from them again.

Yelp
This review is for two things: THe east austin location, and then specifically the new menu item of the hot Nashville chicken sandwich. This was the first time for me at this location, and it's super cute! It's a walk up window and there are tables outside plus a small parking lot which is clutch for those of us who can't street park haha. I had placed an order online and it was packaged well and waiting when I got there. Overall, would definitely go back to this location. I ordered the fried pickles and was excited to try the Nashville chicken sandwich. I got the pickles extra crispy, and they were a little dark when i opened them so I was concerned they would taste burned but they didnt! And that coating help up so well while I drove the food home. I know that pictures always look amazing compared to real life, esp for food, but I was disappointed when I opened the sandwich container. The sauce was pooled and dried on the bottom, and the chicken patty itself was really small looking for the size of the roll, especially compared to other chicken sandwiches I've eaten there where the friend chicken is thick and sticks out of the bread. I was also looking forward to the cold creamy cole slaw against the hot sauce, and there was very little coleslaw as you can see and it was very dry. If you like it hot, it was definitely spicy. Overall, the sandwich was a letdown but the pickles still great, and the location great, and food was prepared on time. I will be back, but will probably not order the Nashville sandwich again.

Yelp
I was really excited both to try this place and to try their version of a Nashville chicken sandwich after telling my brother to try it out and he said he enjoyed it. The Nashville sandwich was the most vile thing I've tasted, it was very clearly burnt or something because I immediately got a disgusting burnt smell filling up the car. I've got two of these sandwiches, and I pretty much only toss out food if it is expired, but this was an easy choice to lose this item. It had decent spice in the two bites I could stomach, had a LOT of saltiness to it (unbearable), but other than that, it just tasted like I was eating charcoal. Sucks because I really did want to support a vegan chain concept that is rapidly expanding, but when I get such an abysmal introduction, I know to never return. Maybe an established chain will build up an robust vegetarian menu. I hope the flavor is not the norm, and this was a mistake - but it's a huge mistake to give me the worst food item I've ever been handed. I guess they'll forever be memorable to me, but whatever I tasted this day was not food. As an aside, there is zero customer support on their website. I've never wanted my money back so much in my life over something so little. If things go bad, no one cares.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
One of the best vegan burgers you'll ever have! I came here with my sister and got the Original Project and my sister got the Spicy Project. Both were so GOOD. In my opinion, I thought the vegan patty was a lot tastier than most chicken burgers I've tried. Sometimes, chicken burgers can be very dry and bland but the Original Project was one of the juiciest burgers I've ever had. Seriously! I'm also very big on having a nice crusted/fried patty and Project Pollo did NOT disappoint. The patty was so crispy that I could even hear a "crunch" when I took a bite. We ordered the papas to share and they were also crispy and delicious. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Yelp
Perhaps branded a bit too unassumingly, I walked in here on accident. I was having one of those "2023 new me" kind of moments where I looked for the closest place I can get a green smoothie as if I always ate and drank healthily. Instead, I walked into this small restaurant that I thought was the place next door. The workers greeted me upon arrival and eagerly explained the whole restaurant idea that it was vegan, etc etc. I was hungry anyway, so I decided to get a grain bowl. Everything seemed pretty affordable, but I wanted to eat something a bit healthier than something fried. The menu is limited but it didn't seem like the place that wanted some sort of Cheesecake-Factory-sized menu anyway. I ate outside since the weather was nice and the seating inside was limited. I was surprised with how much flavor was in this bowl that didn't have any meat or anything that pretended to be meat. The cauliflower, rice, mushrooms, pretty much everything was a flavor bomb (perhaps due to the really nice dressing on top). Not many times I actively said mmm (at first ironically until it turned unironic, haha). Definitely going to make this spot a regular lunch visit! It made me feel full (I wasn't able to finish the entire thing in one go, but I can see how some people could), but it didn't make me feel unhealthy in the slightest. From a pleasant experience that accidentally came upon, I am happy I took a chance on this place!

Tracey Z.

Yelp
I would give this place a 2.5 stars. I was really excited to try this place, because vegan fried chicken !! that's a rarity. However I felt feeling pretty disappointed. The Spicy Project reminded me of cafeteria lunches. The meat was cardboard-esque and the buffalo sauce was missing the wow factor. The bun however was very tasty - very soft and easy to chew. The Loaded Papas were decent. The potatoes were well prepared and the "load" on top completely the chewy fries perfectly. The vegan cheese sauce did not resemble real cheese in any way, but added depth to the dish. I really would not recommend the Vegan Macaroni. As my friend described it, "it builds up and up to absolutely nothing, it has no climax". Overall, the dish was pretty lackluster and there was nothing satisfying about it.

Autumn M.

Yelp
This was my first time at the Rosewood location. The inside is smaller than the Anderson Lane location. There is seating along the wall, but your best bet would be to sit at the tables outside. I ordered the original sandwich since I knew I liked it, and it did not disappoint (just wish it wasn't $9 for a fast-food sandwich.) I didn't realize you could add lettuce, tomato, and onions so I opted for those things this time. I subbed in the Birdy sauce which was a great idea because that stuff is GOLD! I also ordered a S'Mores shake for the first time (did the cup size get smaller??) and OMG it was absolutely delicious!! I'm pretty sure they just made me a graham cracker one though haha. Ice cream isn't usually my go to sweet but this would make anyone a fan! The only issue I had is that it didn't look as appealing as the photo online - there was no whip cream and no drizzle and I know I would not opt out of them when I placed my order. A little disappointing but at least the amazing taste made up for it.

Shradha A.

Yelp
You guys, I have been wary of Instagram hype lately and didn't know if this newest addition to Austin vegan dining was worth the hike. I was near there yesterday and picked up an original "chicken" sandwich on a gluten-free bun and, my friends, even my non-vegetarian husband nodded in approval. I'm generally not a huge fan of "mock meat" and prefer creative dishes that can be originally vegetarian. But this place has won me over. They are really sweet and friendly at the counter, have a good variety on the menu if chicken sandwich ain't your thing, and serve a good portion size that was extremely filling. I am impressed and add my Yelp-stamp to it.

Gurpreet L.

Yelp
Austin is a city full of one of a kind delicious vegan joints but this is not one of them. When I came, they were out of half of the things we wanted, the employees were apathetic (not their fault, it was pretty late), and the food was lacking. I was expecting more

Kate Z.

Yelp
A meatlover's review: The chick'n is like well breaded chicken nuggets. The wrap was tasty and filling, and didn't fall apart. It was a subtle spice and a good experience. The fries were crispy but the cashew queso was subpar, as it lacked in flavor and just made the fries soft. I'm not a huge fan of their pico either. There's a couple of parking spots and outdoor seating tables, which was perfect for our group of 6. Overall, I'd be back if I had a vegetarian friend but wouldn't come here with my omnivore buddies.

Jeffrey B.

Yelp
Stopped after a bike ride, tried an Original Project, Loaded Tots, and a strawberry shake. It was all very tasty, the patty on the sandwich was juicy and well seasoned, before breaded and fried, tasty either way. Super yummy shake made from oat milk and strawberries. We enjoyed it a lot.

Ali W.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying that I'm not vegan but thoroughly enjoyed Project Pollo. I stopped by as part of a Yelp Elite perk and bought another meal and some sides as well. I would honestly choose a Project Pollo sandwich over some other chicken sandwiches in the area. Fries were top notch and I also really really liked the cashew Mac and cheese! The only thing that was just a bit off was that the spicy sandwich was just basically dipped in hot sauce and a bit messy. I would also say that it's very decently priced compared to many other restaurants that offer vegan dishes. Definitely want to come back to try a milkshake!

Blake I.

Yelp
Let me tell you, I have been in exploring Austin's vegan scene this week and thus far this was the first establishment where I could keep my meal under $20. Finding the shop was a bit of a challenge, it's between a pizza place and a soup restaurant. A smallish pick-up window that you could pass if you blink. They also have some seating if you want to eat outside. Onto the food. It was my first visit so I went with what was popular on Yelp so went with the "Original Project" with a side of fried pickles. Make sure you ask for the toppings you like, there weren't suggestions offered. After I paid for everything, the order taker says, you know people love our burgers. I was like, why didn't you say that before I paid?!? Anyway it was like a clown car of fried pickles in that little box. They were good too, I just wasn't expecting so many. Definitely enough to share. The chicken sandwich was really good too. Next day I am doing the tourist thing and wanted to visit the George Washington Carver museum and guess where I wind up? Across the street from Project Pollo again. Well, I was hungry and that burger suggestion stayed in my head so I ordered the double cheeseburger and tots. Hear me when I tell you that burger slaps! Like everything about it was good, I was trying to eat extra slow so it wouldn't run out. Do the on your first visit and save the sandwich for round two.

Kaitlyn R.

Yelp
Hit the spot! Since coming to Austin we've been wanting to try this place. We arrived around 1pm. It was quiet, and we were quickly greeted. We ordered a Man n Chik'n, Single Cheez Burger and a Chik'n Caesar Wrap. *Mac n Chik'n had the perfect kick of spicy. The Bun is fluffy and lightly toasted. With the sauces, the Chik'n didn't stay as crispy, but I still enjoyed that bite! *Single Cheez Burger... Well, my son finished the whole thing, and he said "Mom, that's bomb.com" *Chik'n Caesar Wrap was delicious! It's very light, and not overwhelming. There was an abundance of kale, which, honestly I needed! The dressing complimented the wrap, and was the perfect amount. I would definitely order this again. Excited to come back and try something new!

Andy C.

Yelp
Third update. Staff awesome. Outdoor seating great. Food pretty good. Try the chickn parm! Wish the kale in the wrap was cooked a little bit - raw is rough!

Nicole C.

Yelp
Got the Nashville hot and the loaded tots...it was sooooo good! Needed a quick vegan spot close to my air bnb and this was perfect, will go again next time I'm in atx.

Mary L.

Yelp
I love fried chicken--and eat too much of it. But Project Pollo is the sort of joint that could help me conquer my addiction. The nuggets are crunchy, just spicy enough, and delicious! It reminds me that a good part of what I crave in fried chicken is the spice and the crunch as much as the actual meat. In addition to being delicious and better for you than meat, the faux chicken here is reasonably priced. Too often I WANT to eat healthy food but find it's really expensive. I also like that they have a "pay what you can" option on the menu. And the service is friendly and fast. I'll be back to try everything else.

Sean M.

Yelp
First time visiting this joint, and I'm so glad I found it. Sooooo good if your looking for some vegan junk food. I got the Caesar chicken wrap and my husband got spicy chicken sandwich. Both were delish. Plus a side of veg Mac. Everything is made fresh. I definitely will return!

Elyse M.

Yelp
The food here is delicious! It's definitely junk food but delicious junk food. I've had the 2 for $10 tenders Thursday deal a couple of times and an original with fries. The breading, sauces, all of it is delicious! Ever time I've eaten here, it's been very consistent. Staff are friendly. I hope their shake set up is finished soon so I can order one!

Chanele R.

Yelp
This place not only offers delicious, quality, ethical food, but they are staffed by kind, friendly people. I stopped by to grab lunch, and when there wasn't any seating left, one of the cashiers came out to tell me that there was another seating area around the back so I didn't have to balance my food on my lap. Later, the same person came around to check on how my food was. Neither of these things were necessary, but they care and take it an extra step. I appreciate that! The food was, as everyone else has said, delicious! I had "The Deluxe Project," which was a fried chik'n sandwich with lettuce (hold the tomato), gouda, and bacon. It was incredible! The papas (fries) were slightly overcooked, but they were still tasty. I would definitely eat there regularly, but luckily (for my waistline only!) I am on the other side of town. Will be back!

Melissa M.

Yelp
Got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, the Buffalo Mac and cheese, and the original chicken. This is the best, highest quality vegan chicken I've ever had (in all 3 dishes.) I really respected that they actually made the Nashville and Buffalo sauces spicy. My carnivore husband destroyed his sandwich and said it smelled exactly like real chicken - he requested that we visit again next time we're in Austin (from someone who normally craves brisket and bbq.) The Oatly strawberry milkshake was also delicious. Bring this location to Dallas! The only negative was the wait - we were one of the only ones there on a Sunday night and it took quite a while for our order. Worth the wait, but it's an outdoor location so if it's really hot or cold out then this could be an issue. Parking also not great.

Katie G.

Yelp
Never had anything like this! Delicious vegan "chicken" sandwiches. Non-vegan approved/highly recommended by my highly skeptical husband who got the spicy sandwich. I loved the regular sandwich and the Mac and cheese was delicious too. It's easy to order online and pickup. Thank you so coming to Austin!!!

MK L.

Yelp
Hands down the BEST sandwich i've ever had!! It absolutely lives up to the hype! My non-vegan boyfriend is even obsessed, and he's an extremely picky eater! I got the classic with no pickles, added jalapeño and lettuce. My boyfriend got the deluxe with 2 patties. Everything was super tasty, even the fries! But I would like to offer a suggestion. I love spicy food but really dislike buffalo flavor, which is why I didn't try any of the spicy options. It would be awesome if there were non-buffalo spicy options, or at least a regular tenders option. But otherwise, amazing job! I will be coming back regularly :)

San San Y.

Yelp
Got the The People's Project which was $5.50 and helps the community. It's a tad smaller than the Original Project but the same sandwich. The aioli was delish. The chikn was tender and not chewy like cardboard. The bun was soft and fluffy. The pickles gave it an extra umph factor. My boyfriend said it's like a chik-fil-A sandwich but better. After eating we went back for seconds to save for dinner. We asked them to give it to us deconstructed and they obliged! We are heading back to Dallas and didn't want the chikn to be all soggy by dinner. Definitely coming back when we are in Austin. We also got the chikn Caesar wrap and that was simple and delish.

Hal S.

Yelp
If you're vegan and in Austin- you must make Project Pollo a part of your trip! The food was incredible and so full of flavor! Can't wait to go back.

Hannah E.

Yelp
Yum! Meat eaters and vegans alike can all enjoy the original project sandwich! Fried to perfection with extra crispy edges and juicy inside with crunchy pickles! Also very filling! Also loved the French fries. Prices and good and staff was friendly.

Wayne N.

Yelp
I can't believe it's not chicken? In any case I would call Project Pollo a success. With the proliferation of vegan options in Austin, now is the time to try plant based meat. I would have never consider this place unless my sister in law who is vegetarian told us to try it. And I was pleasantly surprised - quality produce, quality bread and quality "chicken." I honestly wouldn't be able to tell the difference if it wasn't for the texture - it's definitely juicy feeling but the squishiness past the initial crisp bite feels odd for the uninitiated. That said, I think the original pollo sandwich is a keeper. My only quibble is that their "chicken" is too aggressively seasoned. Nibbling the patty, it's definitely flavorful but has an overly salty kinda feel.

Soledad C.

Yelp
Super easy online ordering, inexpensive, and was ready when promised. Both me (vegan) and my omnivorous fiancé loved the delicious comfort food. Nothing not to like, go try it!

Amy F.

Yelp
This place is absolutely fantastic. Easily catapulted to the top of my favorite places in Austin. This is the chicken equivalent of the Impossible patty, it's just so dang good. The chick'n is crisp and wonderfully flavored. I've had their sandwiches multiple times and the texture sometimes feels like a chicken mcnugget (which I absolutely loved in my non-vegetarian days) and sometimes it's more like a real chicken texture but a little softer version, like tofu. My meat friends love this place and one of my bbq-loving friends (who didn't know that we were ordering a vegan chicken sandwich) was so mad when she found out that it wasn't real meat, but she was a believer by the first bite. Both the original and spicy project are amazing. The spicy is pretty spicy if you pour all the sauce on it, but they give the sauce to you on the side so you can control how much kick you want. Loaded fries are pretty good as well! The mac n' cheese is very alright, me and my friends tried it and everyone was like ehhh, but I am also personally not a fan of vegan cheese, so if that floats your boat, go for it. Definitely try at least once!

Genevieve G.

Yelp
This place was awesome! Ironically enough I didn't realize it was vegan. My partner was shocked when he looked up the place after our visit to find that out. The food is honestly fantastic! The service was out of this world. I would totally come back! I loved how intimate it was. They even offered our doggos oatmilk yogurt which the boys loved! 12/10 would recommend!

Suzy D.

Yelp
Stopped here for the first time and we will be back to try more of the menu! We got the loaded papas and the queso was probably one of the best cheese (or as we say chez) sauces we've tried. We also split the original and the breading was crunchy and it would have fooled even the most discerning. Can't wait to try the "chik'n" strips on their 2fer $10 deal on Thursdays and the Mac 'n Chee, too. And don't worry - lots of parking and a few outdoor tables.

Steven L.

Yelp
I've had Project Pollo once before as part of a Yelp Elite Perk, and I really liked it - it's also about two blocks away from me. Their chicken sandwiches seem to be gluten-based, while their nuggets are tofu based, and I was originally much more impressed by their nuggets. This time, I had a really large order as my sister and her family wanted to try it, so I ordered for them as well. Wraps - The adults each had a wrap (3 chicken caesar and 1 chipotle chicken), and these are filled with the chicken nuggets chicken (tofu-based). Pretty good, what you would expect from a normal caesar chicken wrap, surprisingly filling. Chicken nuggets - Just as I remembered them the first time. Tofu-based, kind of tasted like if paneer was fried into a nugget. I think I actually prefer to these to actual chicken nuggets. Fried pickles - Crispy when eaten fresh, they can be a little soggy if you have to make a long drive after picking them up. Overall, pretty delicious as fried pickles should be. Loaded fries - Topped with a few nuggets, pretty good overall. The credo queso is very good for vegan queso, but these loaded fries don't hold up as well during a long drive either. Fries get a little soggy, but this is to be expected from any type of loaded fries if not eaten immediately. Tater tots - I'm not sure if they forgot this order or if they included them with the loaded fries, because there was no separate order but there were a few tots in the loaded fries for some reason. Overall, I'll find myself going back to this place fo their chicken nuggets (or any other chicken nuggets based entrees) and the fried pickles. Someday in the future I might give their sandwiches a try again (I'm not a huge fan of the gluten-based meat alternatives though).

Yelp
Project Pollo is the perfect vegan addition to East Austin. There is a unfortunate myth (which can also sometimes be the reality) that vegan food is both expensive and inaccessible. Project Pollo solves both of those things. When you look at their website and Instagram they have a variety of 2 for $8 specials on weekdays which makes the sandwiches comparable in price (and maybe even cheaper) to other fast food chains. The food itself is satisfying to both vegan and non vegans alike. They offer a variety of wraps, sandwiches, tenders, Mac n cheese, etc. I recently went for breakfast to try the chicken minis and they were delicious. While the biscuits were buttery and fresh, the star of the show was still the chicken. The chicken seems to be made from tofu from what I can tell. The breading was well flavored and had a little spicy kick with a hint of sweetness (assuming from the "honey" butter). Project Pollo brings something unique to the east side. I also love that they have a sandwich option that is "pay what you can" for those who need that option. Vegan food and plant based eating is the future, and a lot of times it takes veganizing familiar items and dishes for non vegans in order to peak their interest. I can definitely see Project Pollo converting some meat eaters to veganism one chicken sandwich at a time! :)

Yelp
Incredible the second time around! Placed an order for pickup. Everything was hot and ready on time. Easy on the wallet. Friendly staff. Food was bomb! My husband ordered the Deluxe Chik'n Sandwich, I had Chik'n waffles and we shared an order of fries and Mac n cheese. If you like ranch, highly recommend trying their side of ranch. Mac n cheese is a bit on the spicy side - I think they add salsa or chipotle seasoning to the cheese. Overall super satisfied and will certainly be returning. Thank you Project Pollo.

Yelp
So I've been here a total of 3 times and I swear I can eat it everyday! The best Vegan chick'n sandwiches I've ever had! I bring everyone who comes to visit us here. We usually order the spicy project which is a 10/10. And recently I tried the pico de pollo sandwich with their cashew cheese, so yummy . They don't go light on sauces or toppings which I love. We also always get an order of the loaded papas they're one of my fave items here. I've also tried the original project and loved it. I feel like I've tried the Mac n cheese but don't remember it as much as the other items.. so I would def go for loaded papas over Mac n cheese if you're thinking of a shareable side. Anyway I'll be back here again and again because the food is delicious, service is incredible and it's all Vegan .

Yelp
A hidden jem for vegans or anyone. I have been on all kinds of different diets and i'm currently not vegan but pescatarian & can I just say HOLY . This place is amazing. Delicious buffalo mac, A phenomenal spicy chicken sandwich (with a yummy jalapeño) & if you like fried pickles, definitely check them out. Shareable portions, and on tuesday's they do 2 for $10 on sandwiches. A must try for vegans and delicious tastes for anyone. Not a lot of parking but late at night I was able to park right up front. The chicken sandwich was my favorite but the fried pickles were the best i've had in a while. They have a yummy Ranch, it's got a tangy flavor and it's thick so it goes pretty good with the fried pickles. Extremely friendly staff, and excellent customer service at the counter. Love this vibe!Buffalo MacBuffalo MacSpicy Project

Yelp
Project Pollo is revolutionizing the vegan chicken sandwich! The spicy project and original project is the best vegan chicken sandwich I've had. The chicken MELTS in your mouth and the brioche bun it comes on is amazing. We love the spicy jalapeños that the sandwich comes with and always ask for a few more on the side. The tots and papas are great! What's great is that the sandwiches and sides are on the more affordable side from what you typically see from vegan restaurants. The flavors in the sandwiches and the sauces that they've created are so delicious. For brunch, the breakfast burrito was our favorite. The chicken and waffles were average. There are a few tables to dine outside of the restaurant. Vegan or not, this restaurant is a must try!

Yelp
Project Pollo is an awesome choice for those wanting an ethical alternative to Chik-fil-A-type places. I've been there twice and enjoyed both experiences. Though the food is pretty heavy, that's the point and they're doing a wonderful job with their business. I'd say if you are looking for flavorful fun food that doesn't harm animals, this is a terrific option. I've had the Original Project, Spicy Project and Pumpkin Pie Milkshake (had to save the milkshake for later, because the sandwich was so filling). The next time I go, I'd like to try the Chicken Ceasar Wrap or Ranchito (Hand breaded crispy chikn, brioche bun, agave lime dressing, chipotle aioli, cabbage, and pickles). Both sound delicious and will perhaps be less filling for me.

Yelp
Wow. It was delicious. Does this mean I'm vegan now? I bleed pork and beef fat from all the amazing Central Texas BBQ we have here in Austin so I was questioning about Project Pollo and if I'd like it. I ordered the spicy project pollo, papas (fries), and the mac and cheese. Sandwich: Delicious. Excellent. Not chicken - but still good. I don't think it tasted like meat, but it was really really good. It was dripping in an absolutely amazing spicy buffalo sauce on a delicious bun. I could have eaten like 3 of them. I honestly didn't miss meat at all while eating this. The texture wasn't really like chicken but it definitely wasn't weird (for all you texture people out there it maybe was like extra breading on a chicken breast). Fries: YES YES YES. Probably some of the best fries I've ever had. Thick cut and fried till perfect. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Mac and Cheese: Eh. This was where my new found veganism stopped. I think for what it was it was ok. But, it just wasn't what I wanted. The sauce was a bit runny and creamy in a different non-dairy way. I also wish they had more seating. I wanted to sit outside but they had only a few spots to sit and they were all full. If you're a meat eater I think it's a cool novelty - I would go back but probably wouldn't make it a staple in my out to eat restaurant rotation. If you're vegan or vegetarian this place would probably be a staple you shold go to every week.

Yelp
Ouch. It is unfortunate as this type of place really affects people's perception of vegan food. The protein bowl is a carb and fat feast with minimal protein. The chikin is so oily that is borderline inedible.

Yelp
The price was VERY reasonable!!! The Deluxe, Topo Chico, and papas. I didn't look at the price when I ordered but when he told me the total, I had to repeat the order to him because the price didn't seem correct. - thought the order wasn't complete. It was. I was thinking "Get out". Compared to other "vegan" places this place doesn't make you feel ripped off by price, quantity, and/or quality. The 'chicken" is on the black peppery side. I like heat but the pepper was very forward. The texture, so far, has been the best vegan chicken I've tried. It wasn't rubbery/spongy/dense like most. I've had Atlas Monroe and this place is MUCH better! Now if they can get the outside crunch texture like Altas Monroe - watch out KFC! One of the things I miss, since going vegan, is chicken (roasted, fried, anything chicken). This place satisfies me. The "bacon" tasted more like ham. It looked like raw bacon. No negatives on this. The ranch dressing tasted more like dill. Still on the hunt for a vegan ranch dressing that tastes like restaurant type of ranch. The papas I got was a bit on warm side, a bit floppy, but I KNOW if these were hot it would have been fantastic! Glad they're not shoestring fries - about double the width. Since it's made out of vital wheat gluten, it sits like a rock in my stomach. Wheat does that to me. Plus I had it with the regular bun. Next time I'll eat 1/2 and save the other half. I didn't try it but they have chocolate, strawberry and cinnamon crunch shakes. That'll be my next try. Double thumbs up on the staff on Saturday, 3/28 at the Order and Pick-up window around 2:00pm (?). They were very pleasant. Reminds me of real Austin folks. I was full to the MAX! Started to have a carb coma on my drive home. No need to ask if its worth it. I drove from Dripping Springs and I WILLl be back!

Yelp
We just tried the classic chikn sandwich and wow I was surprised by everything. So flavorful and the texture was amazing. We also got a side of the chipotle ranch which was delicious but I honestly didn't think the sandwich needed and stuck with how it comes (vegan Mayo + pickles). I do wish they had ketchup or some kind of tomato sauce as a side for the sandwich - necessary for a fried chicken sandwich in my opinion. Excited to go back and try more things!

Yelp
Great vegan/vegetarian sandwiches! I got the original project and let me tell you it was so good and tasty and I felt nice and full after. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I had high hopes going in but I feel my expectations were too high. The food was good but the service was pretty bad -- we waited 40 minutes for our food and there were several mix ups with the order. The chicken itself was great and tasted just like real chicken. The milkshakes and fries were also good. Tater tots were a bit too crispy for me. I'll probably come back just because there aren't many vegan chicken options in town, but I'm definitely a bit disappointed after my first visit. Edit: a few members of the group experienced horrible digestive issues after eating -- do with that what you will

Yelp
I've always taken vegan chicken for granted. It's generally fine and well, that's about it, but it did the job. Project Pollo has ruined me for sub-par chicken substitutes in the future. This is perfectly seasoned and breaded and it's the perfect thickness. Sometimes you get a patty (generally) that's too thick and it isn't quite right. The loaded fries were everything I've ever wanted from animal frie subs (the latter never delivers) and this hit the spot. The sandwiches were so damn good. Everything about our meal was done to perfection. And still, my favorite part was the person that took our order. They were SO friendly and helpful and were such a joy to interact with. Couldn't be happier. This place is a real gem.

Yelp
Excellent, especially for the money. We tried the deluxe chicken sandwhich, the hot and spicy chicken sandwich, and an order of loaded fries. The fries really exceeded expectations! Love the crema/queso on them. The chicken sandwiches were solid. My only real complaint was that the spicy one was not spicy. Like at all. But, tasty! And they had a few patio tables and very good COVID protocols. I would eat here again without hesitation.
