The 38 Essential Copenhagen Restaurants

"Copenhagen is home to some of the best coffee bars in Europe. Prolog, opened by Jonas Gehl and Sebastian Quistorff back in 2016, has two shops in the city, both hubs for the most devoted coffee nerds. Opt for the one in Kødbyen to enjoy pastries from Juno bakery and a nice cup of java. Prolog works directly with around 30 different farmers, mainly from Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Ethiopia, and Kenya. You can also stock up on beans and all kinds of coffee equipment." - Anna Norström, Gabe Ulla

Walked in with no expectations. Walked out reminded why I fell in love with coffee in the first place. The double espresso hit like it had something to prove. Tight, clean, no hesitation. Bitter in the best way. Layers of fruit and roast showing up exactly where they should, nothing more, nothing less. The kind of shot you don’t talk over. Double latte followed. Milk steamed just right. No foam art circus. Just structure. Texture. The espresso still held its ground, which says everything. Staff? Dead calm. No fake smiles. No overexplaining. Just people who know what they’re doing and let the coffee speak for itself. I’m a barista. I’ve made thousands of drinks. This was one of the few times I didn’t want to adjust anything. Prolog isn’t trying to impress you. They just do.

Very cozy and lovely way to end our Copenhagen’s days. Very simple: eat your bun with wipped butter & cheese. Grab your coffee you like and end your stay with a croissant or a roll. Then, stroll your journey.

Prolog Coffee: A Love Affair in Every Cup You don’t just drink coffee at Prolog—you fall for it. Hard. The kind of love that lingers long after the last sip, that pulls you back for just one more, that has you ordering beans across borders just to keep the feeling alive. The scent alone is enough to stop time. The baristas move like artists, the espresso pours like liquid gold, and every cup whispers, this is how coffee should be. I walked in for a drink. I left with an obsession. And there’s no turning back. One sip, and I was hooked. Now, even miles away, I’ll keep the ritual alive—ordering my favorite beans, chasing that perfect taste. Because some experiences don’t end when you leave. They follow you home. 🫶🫶

After a long journey of flights and layovers, our first breakfast stop in Copenhagen was at PROLOG to recharge with their delicious coffee and bread! (I had read beforehand that PROLOG’s bread is made by HART, one of their store is right across the street.) Even early in the morning, PROLOG was bustling with people. Fortunately, we managed to find a seat outside while the inside was packed with customers lining up to order. We got a batch brew and a flat white—both were incredibly comforting—and the bread was absolutely divine! The cardamom bun, in particular, was a flavor I had never experienced in Taiwan (nor have I seen it sold in bakeries there). Our experience at PROLOG was wonderful and made for a fantastic start to our Skandinavien adventure. Before leaving Copenhagen, we made a point to revisit the shop to buy coffee beans (and help friends back home with their orders too). I picked up a bag of Peruvian beans for myself, which taste very sweet and clean. Whether brewed as pour-over or espresso, the coffee was consistently amazing.👍

Best coffee I've had in along time. Very formal bright and sweet. A bit of a line at Sunday at 11am.

Food was good, and service fantastic. We had the almond croissant (a bit stale), and the cardamom bun (fresh and very good). Coffees were nice (good, but not the best that we had on our trip), and kombucha also nice.

lovely little coffee bar in the meatpacking district. got a flat white which was smooth and yummy, made with washed colombian beans. also had a cardamom bun (from the famous Juno bakery it seems) which was excellent, buttery and doughy layers of pastry with a delicate balance of sweet and cardamom spice. the baristas are friendly and professional, while there is a cozy atmosphere inside though seating is limited.
