"The wine-driven American restaurant that became a fixture on 'best of' lists from D.C. critics over the past decade, poured its last glass in February. Owner Jason Kuller could not re-negotiate a lease to keep the Penn Quarter stalwart in its current location. Proof was the first restaurant founded by Kuller’s brother, Mark Kuller, a former tax attorney who opened a string of hits on the D.C. dining scene before he died in 2014. After Mark Kuller opened Proof in 2007, the family’s restaurant group grew to include Estadio, Doi Moi, and the former 2 Birds 1 Stone cocktail bar on 14th Street NW. Max Kuller, Mark Kuller’s son, split from the group last September, taking Estadio with him." - Tierney Plumb

"All weekend, the Penn Quarter mainstay will offer 50 percent off select women-made wines off its “Women Rock Wine!” menu with a $16 “Amelia Earhart” flight featuring four women-made wines. Proof will also be open for a special Saturday lunch from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. to feed march attendees." - Tierney Plumb

This place has the most amazing appetizers and I am posting this before it has arrived this is so good. Just got completed eating main course. Absolutely delicious. Steak, duck anything you choose will be delicious and amazingly prepared. Appealing to the eye, smell, and taste. Will return as soon as I come back to DC. Get the sticky dessert!!! Always remember this place. So amazing!

Excellent service. I have been a customer since 2009 and never had a bad experience. Yesterday was really busy because of the Caps game and Sting concert outside the potrait gallery but the service remained the same. The food is good- order the beef carpacio.

Known for wine selection, but great craft sodas for non-drinkers. Great table service, great atmosphere, good food. Warning: Nude art in the men's bathroom, if that matters to you.

We had mixed experiences here. Dessert and wine in the bar was wonderful. On a second visit we had a delicious appetizer but our pasta dishes were too salty and we left a lot of food on our plates and didn't choose to take it with us. However, the management was very responsive and reduced our bill and said they would ask the chef to taste the dishes.

I went here with my family for my birthday last weekend. This place is amazing!! Our server was lovely and he offered great suggestions. The cheese course is wonderful with so many options to choose from. The tuna tar-tare is to die for!! Each item we ordered was perfect for sharing and it made it so everyone got a little piece of everything, we left with our bellies full but that feeling stuffed which was perfect. Would recommend this restaurant for any occasion!! Not too bad price wise either. We had 3 people, plenty of food, a scotch and 7 glasses of wine and the bill was $145 before tip.

I've gone here pretty regularly over the last few years, and always had a great meal. Proof prided itself on its wines, charcuterie and cheeses, but it had a lot of other great dishes as well. The beer list was pretty short but always had one or two really good choices. There was usually some variation of gnocchi that was always excellent. And they had a fantastic sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Sadly, after many years of operation, they closed their doors forever after last night. Apparently, they've lost their lease. I don't think they were doing enough business to just find a new location, which is a shame.

We used to love this place, the small pours let you try so many different wines with the food, which used to be excellent. Last time disappointing. Food was mediocre - a whipped bone marrow dish tasted like whipped salty butter and mayo with an unpleasant consistency. Service was slow and unenthusiastic. Not sure if he ever asked us how we liked the food. When we ordered a new dish to replace the marrow (basically untouched) no question about whether it was okay and still showed up on our bill. Wines, of which we ordered a number, showed up half way through courses. In fairness, the wines themselves were excellent and unique, so kudos to the sommelier, who should have a chat with the rest of the team before they take this place under.

Amazing food and wine selection! Checked this restaurant out on a whim and was not disappointed. The cheese and charcuterie paired with the wine selection was a real treat. Special thanks to our server Mike P who was very knowledgeable and helped steer us in the right direction with our selections.
