The Best Restaurants in Portland’s Woodstock Neighborhood | Eater Portland

"Proper Pint offers a thoughtful tap list featuring a savvy balance of IPAs, porters, sours, ciders, and wine. Most beers are available in the U.S. standard 16-ounce pour as well as a U.K. imperial, or “proper” pint of 20 ounces. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the taproom, and an honest-to-goodness pizza hotline phone hangs on the wall to summon a tavern-style pie from Bridge City Pizza down the street. If the bar’s relatively modest indoor space is full, visitors can try the ample heated patio out back." - Nathan Williams

Met up with an old friend here. What a fantastic place with excellent staff that know their beverages. Enjoyed a cider and nice conversation. Nice edition to a neighborhood I lived in in the early 90s! Can't wait to go back and try the pizza phone!

Google
An absolute gem of a place. Great staff and friendly community vibe. BYO food keeps it simple. Gorgeous hand-built interior and patio with fire pit tops it off.

Google
This place is the best! Great selection, wonderfully crafted furnishings, knowledgeable staff. Plus there is a 'Pizza Phone' on the wall. A direct line to Bridge City Pizza will get you the BEST Chicago style pizza to pair with you beer! What's not to like?

Google
Very nice folks. They love dogs here, and the dogs seem to love this place back. Nice selection of brews and you can do can pours as well.

Candice Sanchez

Google
Great local bar with the most welcoming and friendly staff! Great rotating beers. Don't be shy about your dog! They are very welcomed here and you can bring your own food!

Google
This place is my new favorite taproom in the Woodstock area. Good tap selection and the bartenders were really friendly. Really cozy atmosphere (with awesome furniture). Will definitely be coming back regularly.

Google
First of the staff and the site are cool. Nice location, good employees, and a great variety of beer. However on my last two visits I found I cannot go back due to the dogs that people bring inside the restaurant. A large group of people were celebrating a birthday FOR THEIR DOG. Silly as heck but got worse when they sang and talked to their dog, expecting a response. Two dogs were continually barking on the most recent visit and their owners were oblivious to the impact upon those around them (kind of like people with kids right?). Becoming an old guy who wants to go to establishments that do not allow animals or children.

Google
Great spot! Low key, dogs allowed inside, and nice selection of ciders! They have games to play as well. Good vibe.

Yelp
Great vibes with terrific selection of beer, board games, '90s music, and DOGS! Wait staff is friendly as are the patrons. We heard about this place in our Airbnb recommendations. It was a great spot for a rainy afternoon!

Yelp
Proper Pint, where have you been all my life?! This place is awesome. Cozy. Laid back. Dog friendly. A true neighborhood gem. The staff are inviting and knowledgeable, as well as just fun people to talk with and catch up of daily events. The outdoor patio is super comfortable with a fire pit and long wooden tables for sharing and conversing. My only complaint - I just wish the Proper Pint was in my neck of Portland. Alas, I guess I will be making g the drive out to Woodstock. Well worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
You can be dog friendly but no GD dog belongs on the table, period!! 6 p.m. on 3/23...couple has their dog laying on the table the whole time they are there...where people eat and drink...BS!! Reporting to health department and will never return!!
google avatar

Yelp
Cool Chill spot. Good selection. Nice patio. Cool Chill spot. Good selection. Nice patio.

Yelp
What a great place! Stopped in to try a brew. And it was so crowded inside and outside. But we still got a seat. Portland's soccer game was on. So much fun. Portland scored and we all got a pour to celebrate. This place is a great neighborhood place with great atmosphere and high energy. If you are in this area stop by. The bartender Max is friendly nice and And such a hard worker with a smile!

Yelp
This place is awesome. Gotta thank my cousin for bringing me here. Good vibes. Great beer. Incredible service. Neighborhood spot. No parking lot, but easy on the street. Outside has a fire pit and inside has bar seating and tables. New to the area, and love places that have a sense of community. Stoked to know about this place.

Yelp
Happy to have a place like this close to home. there's a cozy, woody feel to the place. They boast a fine selection of beers from quite a number of local and otherwise brewers. Prices a little high. Great service. The owner made stools like good, but a few years of service had left the leather/seat saggy and uncomfortable.
google avatar

Yelp
Not really into soccer but I am into great tap selections, affordable growlers and a bunch of niche singles. Also generally have sours on deck which I really appreciate!!!

Yelp
This is my new favorite place. Never mind the super friendly staff, the amazing customers, the excellent selection of beer and cider (there is also a hint of wine,) and the superb location from my new apartment. You are allowed to bring your pup inside - which is super awesome. They also have Apple pay and Android pay - so that's nice too for when I'm out on my walks and didn't bring my wallet. I've already met a ton of cool people here and I've only been in Portland for 6 days. :) *Note: my dog is a bit of a talker - but I haven't had anyone tell me that I had to leave. Now, mind you, it's clearly a "hi" and nothing malicious. That's been my experience so far, as least (and LOVING it.) I couldn't be happier that I found my "Cheers" here in Portland already. Maybe the staff at this place are going to get tired of me... but that's too bad. ;)

Yelp
Great local spot to grab a beer (all local, no behemoth companies allowed), and catch up with friends. If you can, catch a Timbers game here. Quite the crowd! Use the phone on the wall to order pizza from down the street.
google avatar

Michael V.

Yelp
I must say that PP has upped its game. I went there tonight and was very impressed by the staff and the ambiance. It was a Timbers game night but they handled it with aplomb. Joe, behind the bar and everywhere , did a fantastic job of serving and socializing. I will be going back more often for sure.
google avatar

Yelp
22 craft beer selections on tap and many more bottles and cans! Sampling of the taps and very informative and friendly service. Great place to hang out either inside or outside ( pit fire place). Love the local vibe and pet friendly!
google avatar

Tiva F.

Yelp
Wow this place is amazing. We came here on a Saturday evening around 6 for a drink and sat at the bar. Both guys were friendly and so knowledgeable! The ambiance was super cozy and cool, not hipster or douchey. Loved looking around at all the thoughtful touches put into the taproom, down to the font used to light up the tap list! And what a list! I wanted to try everything. I can't wait to come back. People around us were all having a good time playing games or just engaged in conversation. They show Timbers & Blazers games and the tv is off when those aren't on. You can order pizza from Bridge City pizza to be delivered and it looked so good! Next time!! I was also fascinated by the beer cans you can take to go. A nice option over a growler if you don't want to lug around the heavy or makes a nice gift! This place is for over 21, so kids are not allowed but it is dog friendly. It was a great place for our date!!

Yelp
Owner operated nice down home place. Spoke to him while we were there he actually built most of the tables, bar tops, shelving, etc himself. The beer was good it's a nice small neighborhood place.

Kezia W.

Yelp
This place is an great neighborhood spot with awesome beers, good ambiance and really nice bar staff. Love it!
google avatar

Elton C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our evening here. Had some ciders from the tap and played some games. Pleasant ambiance. Feels new and warm. They also have an outdoor area with fireplace and connect four.
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
Proper Pint has just the right selection of brews on tap. Good mix from IIPAs to Sours, Ciders and even a wine on tap. There is a good mix of indoor/outdoor seating and dogs are welcome. The clientele was friendly and talkative if you wanted but left you alone as well. I will definitely be going back much more regularly. It's a massive step up from Beer Bunker and Belmont Station.
google avatar

Bubba Y.

Yelp
A very nice place to sit and have a sip, especially if the weather allows for outdoor seating. Can be a touch noisy when dogs and people are all chatting at the same time. I'm especially pleased that they stock my favorite brand of ginger ale - Vernors - in their cooler. Good for the neighborhood, parking sucks though. Regardless, we enjoy the location and will continue to come back.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Good brews on tap, knowledgeable bar tender, comfortable atmosphere, board games, dog friendly and large outdoor fireplace all make this a nice place to relax and catch up with friends.
google avatar

Bria J.

Yelp
Proper Pint Taproom is my favorite local spot to watch a basketball game! It's super dog friendly and has a great beer selection! Jess is our absolute favorite bartender she deserves all the raises!!! Only downside is the majority of bartenders are men, wish there were women there. Other wise, 10/10 recommend! The outdoor area is the best on a warm day with plenty of seating.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent addition to the Woodstock neighborhood. A Proper Pint has 24 taps, a few of which are reserved for ciders. The list is well thought out and curated, and I like that you can get half pours on most of the beers. While not a huge bar inside, the space is very well appointed, and the patio outside is very nice. The bartenders were all extremely friendly when we visited (about a week after they opened), and they even brought in free pizza for anyone in the bar later on that night. There's no food service here, but you can bring your own in or order delivery. There weren't really any great beer bars in the area other than Double Mountain, so this is a most appreciated addition that will see me again often.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
Awesome new beer spot for the Woodstock neighborhood. Gorgeous space, beautiful furniture handmade by the owner. Fantastic, deep and local taplist, done in Cricut plastic with backlighting, very different from the chalkboard or TV screen taplists around town. No food yet, but you can bring in any food you like, and Ate Oh Ate is right across the intersection. Super nice staff, happy to give you tastes to help you decide. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Port L.

Yelp
Great beers on tap and wonderfully crafted place...but it needs sound absorbers on the ceiling or walls. It's extremely sound-slappy and loud...when there's a small crowd there. Other than that, I highly recommend this place...unless you have sensitive ears.

Yelp
What a gem. The environment and music was great. The beer was delicious. The bartender was courteous and pleasant. I had the Pow IPA which was great. Citrus flavored with a good nose. I met interesting peeps. This place is not pretentious but a little fun establishment. The price of the beers are fair. Yes you can drink a 16 oz Coors Light cheaper at the Olive Garden but this is good beer. This is a gem and I will be back. Bathrooms are modern and clean. Seats and tables are new and comfortable. It still has a dive feel in that there are regulars from the neighborhood here but it's not run down. Come get a beer and say hi to Bernardino. Really great guy and he will take care of you.
google avatar

Andy O.

Yelp
Can I say I like the lighting? Good vibe and Baerlic brewing top of the tap list. Honest pours.
google avatar

Corrine C.

Yelp
Don't bring your dog here unless you have an old dog who sleeps the whole time. I tried to bring my dog here and she wanted to say "hi" to other dogs and barked once and we were talked to by the bartender about how she wasn't allowed to bark (she's a dog?). Why allow dogs if you don't actually accept basic dog behavior? We don't use a shock collar on our SIX MONTH OLD PUPPY but that's clearly their expectation. Proper Pint, reconsider your dog policy if you don't actually want dogs in your business. We had already ordered food but felt so uncomfortable with this interaction that we took our food to go as soon as it arrived.
google avatar

Logan C.

Yelp
Delicious beer, peaceful enviornment. It was cool to see people reading and drinking!
google avatar

Geoff G.

Yelp
My wife and I live in Woodstock so it's great to have a spot focusing on craft beer as there are not too many options within walking distance. Service and selection are always solid. They have a couple TVs for soccer matches and Blazer games. The outdoor area with fire pit is fun on nice days.
google avatar

Beerboy M.

Yelp
OK place to grab a beer and probably (see below) a nice addition to Woodstock. The interior is nicely put together, small, but extremely loud and cramped. The exterior is nice also. Hard to hear someone sitting right next to you inside. Perhaps the patio is better, while the weather is nice. Nice taplist, but absolutely no description of beers on the board other than the name, and not posted online. Challenging at best to figure out what you want to drink out of the 24 taps other than beer/cider/wine unless you already know everything that is on tap. Either more detail on the board, or a beer menu with descriptions would help immensely. They also have a few bottles for sale in the cooler by the front door with the same lack of description. While this may work when there is nobody there, on a busy night it is not very user-friendly. Staff were nice, but not very friendly or helpful and busier talking with folks they appeared to already know. Not really available to help you choose a beer. As far as Woodstock goes... I wouldn't want to live nearby. The place is loud, audible from around the block and there is no parking which forces you to park in front of neighbor's houses. If the neighbors want to sleep before midnight, good luck. I hope Proper Pint prospers and works out their limitations because it would be nice to have an option for craft beer in the area, but there are still some things that need to be ironed out.
google avatar

natalie z.

Yelp
Great beer, super friendly staff, and AMAZING dog friendly place. My pup is allowed inside the bar and he loves the cool floor! This is an incredible addition to the Woodstock neighborhood and we are very excited to be returning customers. Also, love that kids are NOT allowed inside. Major plus.

Yelp
I don't know, I'll qualify this with " I might be getting sick of the typical Portland tap room". This place was small, packed with people and 5 frigin dogs!!! Dogs are ok in the summer on a patio but inside in the winter barking in an already crowded place was ridiculous. We came here because it was new and they advertised on Facebook that they had "trailblazer viewing party". We got there and it was packed with only 2 small TVs. The sound was not on. When I asked about the sound they said, "no, we would only put the sound on for a Timbers championship". Hello! That's not a viewing party. You are a tap room that has 2 TVs. Just like every other tap room. Nothing special. You will be good for neighborhood people but you won't attract others. I won't go back. I literally passed 50 just like it on the way there. I was hoping for something different.
google avatar

Ash R.

Yelp
Awesome place. Great to see Sean and his great crew (Greg+Emma) have a brilliant taproom. Dog friendly, great beer, outside seating. Awesome.
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly tap room in Neighborhood that is needing this type of business. Proper Pint sits right at the corner of 52nd and Woodstock. This has become a very busy intersection. They share the building with a coffee shop and a yoga studio at the least. Floor to Ceiling windows mostly, good for people watching. They carry an eclectic mix of craft beer, cider, and a single wine on tap. Purveyors from all across the country and some International beers, too. Menu is crafted from a stencil machine that they spell out each beer individually, it adds a unique touch. 24 taps and some package beverages offered in their cooler, too. Bartenders offer and encourage sampling so you can decide what beer you want. Beers priced the higher range $6-7, but you're getting the premiere new, random, one-offs and Proper Pints. Bar stools were handmade one by one, by the owner, Sean. Very comfy, rustic, yet updated look, you'll have to see. There is the bar top, high top-buddy bars, and picnic type seating. Outside they have benches and a beautiful fire pits. You may order a 16z or a Proper Pint 20z, some items are served in a smaller vessel if it's very high octane or rare. They allow you to bring your own food in, as they don't offer their own food. I was pleasantly surprised though, one evening I turned up and the owner had food catered in for his b-day. Reverand's BBQ. Exquisite. The bench seating inside has Pendleton type blanket back covers. Cozy and Dog Friendly, too. One complaint: I find it disturbing if I hear dogs barking while trying to enjoy my bev.

Cori E.

Yelp
Glad to have this place in the neighborhood! Great selection. They will be working with Bridge City Pizza soon to be able to order pizza and have it delivered to you. Kids are welcome on the patio until 7pm. Dogs are welcome anytime!
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
Good beer (wish they were $0.50-$1 cheaper), and good dogs. TV's are typically on with sports and the volume is off/quietbut bit why we come here. Because there's no kitxhen, you can get food delivered. Just a good all around beer bar.

Matthew N.

Yelp
5 stouts on tap! 3 just ok, 2 I really liked: Black Metal Farmhouse Stout, almost tart, very tasty. Parabola, meaty & dark.
google avatar

Harlan Z.

Yelp
Nice place - brand new and with a solid array of beers to choose from plus some cider and wine. It's got a friendly vibe and, while I was there, I noticed quite a few locals stopping in for a pint or a half. If what you want from a brew pub is brews, clean lines, friendly staff (Emma and Brit are delightful to chat with), and camaraderie, then you'll likely find this a welcome addition to your list.
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
Love the environment. This place is pet friendly and also offers an outside patio with a fire pit. They have decent amount of beer selection with price being comparable to the rest of the taprooms that Portland has to offer.
google avatar

Phimchanok K.

Yelp
This place is very nice interior; clean, modern, cozy and comfy. I and my friends love to come here have good beer and play board games after work. There are lots of good beer. Also service here is so lovely and friendly.
google avatar

John E.

Yelp
Always an excellent, rotating, selection of fine beers and ciders. Owners are very friendly, and their staff are a lot of fun! The red "Bat-phone" in the back delivers Bridge City' best pizza right to your stool.
google avatar

Damian D.

Yelp
This place is the best! Great selection, wonderfully crafted furnishings, knowledgeable staff. Plus there is a 'Pizza Phone' on the wall. A direct line to Bridge City Pizza will get you the BEST Chicago style pizza to pair with you beer! What's not to like?
google avatar

H D.

Yelp
If you want to pay double the price for your beers, sit in homemade uncomfortable seats, and watch silent sports - this is the place for you!

Daisy W.

Yelp
Overpriced is an understatement. You can get the same beer for dollars cheaper around town. They really need to fix the seating on the patio as well. No one likes to drink beer in a rocking chair
google avatar

Grant E.

Yelp
Great spot, both guys behind the counter know their beer, the wood decorations are beautiful, the gas firepit outside is cool, kids allowed outside but not inside which is great for both groups, and a good clean feel to the spot. Also, great food options in the area to take in (Ate-oh-ate and a mexican place which name I am forgetting).
google avatar

E L.

Yelp
I love love love this place. Bartenders are super relaxed and nice, very dog friendly inside the bar and it has a great selection of beer. You can order an amazing pizza (Thin crust Chicago style) from Bridge City pizza across the street. PLEASE, if you have a yapping dog, do NOT bring the dog inside. This is not a dog bar nor a dog park. I'm so thankful that the owner allows dogs inside and so do not ruin it for the rest of the owners. Not all customers love dogs and they are there to drink beer. This business is not here to serve your dogs, they make money to serve humans and they are graciously allowing dogs to come. Please don't bring your yapping dog inside! My dog is quiet and I intend to come here as often as I can!
google avatar

Rb G.

Yelp
Proper Pint purports to be a Portland Timbers place, going so far as to calling the taproom's soccer fans the "Proper Army" (with a trademark-infringing scarf). BUT, on 7/31/19, when Deigo Chara finally played in the MLS All-Star game, the manager chose to keep the sound off, in spite of customer requests to please turn the sound on. Really lame, and not as advertised!!
google avatar

Sydney C.

Yelp
We love coming to Proper Pint. They have a great selection of beers, ciders and wine that are always changing. The staff is great and always very helpful. Atmosphere is top notch. Reminescent of a cabin in the woods. Board games. Inviting fireplace out back. Plus they are dog friendly! Come here and leave your worries and troubles at the door.

Aldo G.

Yelp
Aside from the great beer selection and the atmosphere, the owner is super nice and accommodating!
google avatar

Bryan A.

Yelp
Such a nice outdoor patio with a gas fire and heaters! We got to sit at a picnic table and enjoy our beers while the dogs all got acquainted. Lengthy beer selection, I had the colab with Level Beer to represent my neighborhood. I love the Trail Blazers theme, and I can see it being a good spot to watch the Blazers game.
