Direct-farm Mexico/Colombia beans, piloncillo lattes, & horchata

"The popular coffee pop-up and roaster recently set up a permanent space inside Bread and Salt in Barrio Logan, ensuring their fans have a spot for regular fuel-ups. Featuring beans that come directly from farms in Mexico and Columbia, the menu offers single-origin coffees along with crafted drinks like piloncillo-sweetened lattes and dirty horchatas." - Helen I. "Drinks from local roaster Provecho! Coffee will be offered at Bica as part of its morning beverage lineup." - Candice Woo

"I've followed Provecho! Coffee Co.'s growth: after running sold-out pop-ups in Tijuana and throughout San Diego and starting three years ago by catering office parties and events, founders Gerardo Ledesma and Karem Alcántar shifted to selling bottled cold brew via Instagram during the pandemic and later launched a website to distribute drinks and beans to local consumers as well as wholesale clients in Los Angeles and Phoenix. Born and raised in San Diego, Ledesma spent a decade at specialty cafes including West Bean, Copa Vista, Coava Coffee and TRVLR Coffee; he sources beans directly from farmers in Mexico and Colombia — including a woman-owned micro lot in Oaxaca — roasts the coffee in San Diego, and aims to expand representation for Mexican coffee in the U.S. Their new cafe, opening inside Bread & Salt in Barrio Logan by late spring or summer, will occupy an entry hall of the former commercial bakery and incorporate one of the building's industrial mixers into the permanent coffee counter. Designed by Jerry Guzmán of Casa129, the space will add indoor seating and activate the outdoor patio and garden along Julian Avenue. Provecho will offer a full brew bar with single-origin coffees and teas, classics and specialties such as a piloncillo-sweetened latte, orange-cinnamon cold brew, and Dirty Horchata (espresso mixed with housemade horchata), a house espresso blend featuring beans from Oaxaca, Chiapas and Veracruz, and a light food menu with a toast program and pastries made by a local baker." - Candice Woo
