Providence Park – Sports Stadium Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tell us about this stadium? Home to the Portland Timbers, Portland Thorns, and Portland State Vikings, this historic stadium, built in 1893, has seen a lot in its day—from cricket matches and ski jumping competitions to a hysteria-inducing 1957 Elvis concert. If you’re in town on a Timbers game day, don’t be surprised to stumble into a sea of green-and-gold scarf–wrapped residents marching resolutely toward Providence Park—team spirit runs high for Portland’s beloved Major League Soccer team, and their impassioned fan group, the Timbers Army, is famous throughout the league for its undying devotion. As such, the Army’s signature acronym is RCTID (Rose City ‘Til I Die). How are the seats? With a few exceptions, it’s hard to find a bad seat here, you may want to avoid the uncovered front seats if you forgot your green poncho though. But for many, especially the non-soccer-savvy, the best seats are less about sight lines and more about proximity to the Timbers Army, which makes for a very good time on game day, whoever wins or loses. Originally based in section 107, the group now takes over the stadium’s north end (specifically sections 101-108 and 202-208), so book accordingly; adult language flies during matches and things can get pretty rowdy. The whole affair is best summed up by one of the Army’s favorite chants; “We are Timbers Army; We are mental and we’re barmy; True supporters forevermore.” We're here for the game, but how are the concessions? As far as ballpark food goes, Providence Park scores pretty high. The concession stands sell local craft beer and cider; The Double Post Bar, near section 109, and the 36-tap The Axe and Rose, near section 119, have the best selection. You can get a cheeseburger made with grass-fed beef and Tillamook cheddar, and the Portland Timbers Food Cart Alliance brings in popular food carts like Koi Fusion, Bokie Dokie, and Kim Jong Grillin'."

Fabulous experience attending our first MLS match. Electrifying environment - the fans are truly passionate, creating a fabulous atmosphere. Decent food and drinks but $$. Definitely family oriented. We sat in the cheap seats - really, a long bench - but views were still very reasonable.

Google
Our first professional soccer game was here. Timbers vs Quakes. The food, like in all stadiums, wasn't great, but the atmosphere compensated. Access was easy but parking almost turned into a headache since they don't have a designated parking lot. Good luck finding parking on the streets or using one of the $40 for three hours of use private parking lots. Besides that, we had a blast!

Google
Not very organized getting people into the stadium nor getting to your section. The security was really really slow, it took 20 minutes for our line to move 2 feet. Overall it was another hour to get in the stadium. Once we got in it was another fiasco to get into our section as the ticket checker wasn’t not very sure who was going where. Overall a cool stadium but they need to work on organization.

Google
I thought it was great for the concert. I think the staff will get better at handling the larger crowds over time. It was fun to walk around and try out the different pubs before the concert. I loved the open area atmosphere while watching the concert.

Google
Come here for matches all the time. Always a great time. Getting in the lines aren’t too bad, especially getting there 30min in advance no line at all really. Lines for food and beverages are usually pretty quick. Take a look at the concourse map in advance so you know all your options for food and drink, they have a ton of good food for a stadium. Personally recommend the jacket potatoes (baked potato stand) stand near section 118. Delicious! Get it early or it may sell out by the second half. Usually food will set you back like $16-$18, but you could get a slice or dog for something like $11. Beer and cider is a bit pricy, but waters always free. They have filing stations or stands are usually good about filling your bottle up as you can only bring in empty water bottles. Bathroom lines can get long during the half, but go before the match or miss a few min of the game and there won’t be a line at all. Great options if you want to pick up new gear for a game, remember to at least wear your scarf. The fan fair is the best here. Go Timbers!

This particular event that we went to was a major concert, and it was extremely unorganized. It was completely understaffed. It took hours in line just to get in and they opened the gates late and it was hot, and most of us paid hundreds of dollars for our tickets to miss the first half of this show because of poorly trained employees and understaffing. I am an avid concert goer, and have been to big huge venues, like Lumen field in Seattle, I've been to the Gorge, White River amphitheater, and Spokane arena, even smaller venues in Portland did better job than this place. I will probably never see a concert here again because of the experience, I hope they can figure out how to make it a smoother. PS....Post Malone and Jelly Roll were off the hook!

Gabi Vehring

Google
Might be great for soccer games but definitely not a good venue for concerts. Bench seating, no crowd control and the acoustic sucked. Will not be back for another concert at this place.

Cara Schuler

Google
I am giving Providence Park 3 stars, and they probably only deserve 2. I will say the star rating is only for concerts as I have never attended a soccer match there. We flew to Portland for the Post Malone/Jelly Roll concert. Our seats were located on the floor. I would recommend arriving way before the gates open as it was a complete cluster. I have traveled all over and have never seen anything like this as far as staff directing and moving people into the stadium. They were slow as turtles, not enough staff to accommodate the mass amounts of people. No staff out on the streets helping direct. Intersections were mobs of people trying to funnel into their gates. They finally opened another gate for concert goers. I felt bad at the amount of money some paid for tickets and some were still outside when Jelly Roll went out. News outlets talked about Portland PD was there in full force, and that was good, but their job wasn't to assist people getting in and creating lines. Thank goodness a riot didn't start. By the time we got to the front of the line, they were no longer checking bags, and the metal detectors were going off. They said to just come in. One worker made the comment that he didn't agree with the change. It was a little unsettling to know knives and guns could be brought in. Thankfully, nothing happened. Probably won't be back there for another concert. Please make improvements and go see how other venues work for stadium tours.

Yelp
I am up in the BB nosebleeds, but considering how loud it is up here, any closer my ears would be bleeding lol So this show was back on September 25. I was practically at the top of the stadium in the corner. Not to mention there was a steel pole in my line of vision, but for $47 this had to be one of the best deals for a concert. Let me go down the lineup that I experienced. 1) The Linda Lindas: Now I had only heard of this group when the concert was announced. They are a group of 4 girls. They play hard core punk and I have to admit they were pretty damn good. They played a small set, but they killed it, and from the looks of it they are Headlining a tour in 2025. 2) Rancid: Now this band was formed in 1991...this the year that I graduated High School...needless to say they are one of the "OG" punk groups. They went harder because they have way more experience. They did make us novices sing along with the MTV hits "Ruby SoHo" and "Time Bomb". 3) Smashing Pumpkins: Now this was getting to the real "meat" of the show. They played lots of music from their discography. They played tons of popular hits and some deep tracks. The icing on the cake was hearing "Zero" live. Billy Corgan is an amazing performer. Their newest guitarist is a fox as well lol 4) GREEN DAY: Finally the band that I have been wanting to see for years. These guys have been rocking for decades. This was the Saviors Tour, but they played "Dookie" and "American Idiot" both in their entirety. They mixed some other songs in there too, but Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool gave everything they had. Not to mention Billie Joe politely asked people to put their phones away. "I swear, your friends will believe that you were here." Freaking brilliant. I would have loved to see Foo Fighters , but this show was definitely one of my favorites

Yelp
We've been here for so many soccer games over the years and we always love coming back. The fan experience here is unmatched at any of the other MLS stadiums I've been to. That being said, the food options are somewhat limited (not to mention typical stadium pricing). The concourses in parts of the stadium are narrow and hard to navigate during times of high foot traffic. There are also a number of seats where you need to either sit by a pole or look around one to get a good view of the pitch.

Yelp
The Tanner ridge section of providence park is amazing!!! We had four tickets to the thorns vs reign and entered through the A GATE, we were in the building in less then 2 minutes and the line on the other side was down the block. Never being to a soccer game before or to Providence park we got lost right away, but a helpful staff member escorted us to the correct area that was only accessible by elevator, when the elevator door opened we were greeted immediately by staff who explained what all our tickets have included with them and OMGOODNESS what a surprise to learn all snacks were free we had chicken nachos, candy and unlimited water and drinks! And at the 90 minute mark they brought out a dessert of donuts! Best sports event I have ever been too and i cannot wait to go again. The ambiance was astounding cheers from the crowd were loud. Super fun experience.

Yelp
Wow. This place was absolutely amazing. Our first time at the venue did not disappoint. The signs are easy to find directing you to your seats. There does not appear to be a bad seat in the house. The entire staff was friendly. The restrooms were clean. I'm not quite sure what else you would want from a sports venue. While there was a lot of construction outside the venue, it did not feel congested. The only real complaint was that the Lyft pick up stations were not at all marked. Being brand new to the area I had no idea where to go to get picked up for a ride. Normally I won't combine two separate companies into one review but it appears that Lyft has a partnership with the venue. So if you're planning on coming down to the venue, be sure you know where to get picked up and dropped off before hand

Yelp
We saw a Thorns game here and sat in the FAN section. I've never had so much fun cheering a sport and I LOVE "football" (to be clear, NOT soccer,) hockey, basketball and I've just gotten into baseball. But I don't "get" the appeal of soccer lol. I could have watched two games there. The atmosphere is electric. Kids LOVED it. People were super friendly and everyone was just having a blast. HIGHLY recommend to even a non-fan!!! I'm a doubter and I'd go back a hundred times over because it was great!!
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
Great place to watch the Thorns play! The only real downside is the food options, but they are on their way to improving. It would be great to see more local restaurants serving food here.

Yelp
I came here tonight for a thorns game and was blow away. The view from the box seats were amazing. You can see everything very well, and there's several tvs in the rooms to watch replays as will as a live tv to the game. Food was amazing. We ordered hotdogs, a ceaser, chips, and popcorn and it easily fed all of us and more. The staff were friendly, great help, and I enjoyed talking with them and the help they gave us. Checking into the park, don't bring a bag!! Ladies your Lulu belt bags are toooooo big!! Get a clear bag!! I'm excited for summer and watching all the women's soccer games!

Yelp
30,000 fans can't be wrong. In and out in 10 minutes, lots of food and drink options. Staff was smooth, like they've been doing this for years. Great job!!

Yelp
If you love soccer, family time or date night, come to a game. Support Portlands Womens soccer. Not sure? Well 5 of our ladies are playing for the womens World Cup this August. How great is that, to have great athletes representing USA and other countries. The energy here is magnatizing. Go Thorns!!!

Yelp
The foo fighters were great as always. But the venue was horrible. First we bought what were labeled as "Floor" tickets, however when we made our way to the floor we found that they had put out folding chairs and we had assigned seats. Floor means floor...we expected to be standing in a crowd. The chairs were incredibly uncomfortable, and so close together. Why have chairs on the floor? Could have sold more tickets by removing the chairs and making room for more people. Not to mention that it's a better experience to be in the crowd. We paid extra money for (what we thought) were "Floor" tickets, and ended up with a more uncomfortable and worse view than regular stadium seats. Also, the venue seemed really unorganized. There were lines to get into lines, and no clear signage for people to follow. Also, we were relegated to 2 entrances since we had "Floor" seats. We wait in that line and go through security, and are told we need to get in another line to get wristbands. This line was just in the middle of the concourse with no signage or organization. This was made worse because there were two other lines right there: one for merch and one for beer. If we had specific security lines for "Floor", why not have the wristbands handed out there? The second line seemed unnecessary and confusing. All-in-all the music was great, the sound was good. But it was confusing, chaotic, uncomfortable, and a little deceptive. The worst show I've ever been to, which is such a bummer because the band is one of my favorites.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Providence Park. Purchased tickets for a group of us to attend a Portland Timbers Playoff game. Parking: Prepaid for valet parking a few blocks away and walked on over. Seating: Fantastic. It appears that every seat has a great view. If you are looking for a rowdy time, purchase the tickets in the Timbers Army section (drums, smoke, chants, chainsaw, dancing, etc). Food: Although they have quite a selection of snacks, they weren't prepared for the crowds at halftime. I was able to place an order ahead of time, but they didn't have enough staff to handle the crowds that were just picking up their pre-ordered food. Despite it being a cold day and difficulty getting snacks, it was a great game and venue.

Malachi ..

Yelp
Do NOT go here for a concert. It was so overwhelming I had to leave before seeing Green Day. The acoustics were piercing, loudest venue I've been to by far. Even with earplugs, which they should be giving out for free. They would have to make huge sweeping changes for me to even consider going back and I probably won't.

Neal S.

Yelp
I have season tickets for Thorns games and the games are always fun to watch and the crowd is amazing. A great game day experience. Never had an issues with any employees. However, concessions are overpriced (not a unique thing but typical for sports venues) and there should be grass instead of turf, so I can't give the physical venue 5 stars

Yelp
My brother in law took me to my fist soccer game here and what an experience it was! We were in the upper decks which was a bit of a hike, but once in our seats the view of the game was awesome! The Timber Army was relentless in their zeal and awe inspiring to watch. On the other side of the stadium (the older section) my brother in law said there were seats behind posts which could obstruct the views of the field, but from where we were that wasn't an issue and the sun set moments before the game which reduced the glare. The stadium was the cleanest I have ever been in without a doubt, and while people were drinking beer there weren't a bunch of drunk loudmouths spoiling it for others as you typically find at sporting events, especially in Arizona. Overall it was a great game (we won) and I really liked the layout and feel of the stadium. It's a smaller stadium and doesn't hold a huge crowd, but that only helped the general feel of camaraderie in the place in my opinion.

Yelp
Right in the middle of the city by the Alphabet district, Providence Park is a great place to watch sporting events. It's so much fun! Sure hope we can do it again soon! They did a fantastic job with the remodel; the stadium is modern and absolutely gorgeous. The seats are comfortable and have lots of leg room allowing people to get in and out without everyone having to stand up. No matter where you sit, there is a great view of the field and the huge screens. There is a variety of new food options that go beyond just hot dogs and popcorn. And of course there are lots of beer options and some hard ciders, which I prefer. Most important, at least for me, the bathrooms are clean. On a warm sunny day or evening, it's the perfect place to be! Timber games are always sold out and the crowd is rowdy, especially the Army that sits on the north side of the stadium. I get a kick out of watching them; they stand and chant one song after the other the entire game. That's dedication! Whether you go early or on time, there will be long line to get in but the process is efficient and the line moves quickly. Once inside the stadium, it's easy to find your section and seats. Right on the Max line, many people take public transportation as parking is a challenge, there is no way around it. Usually have to park several blocks away. Pay attention to the rules on the parking meters. You have to pay past 7pm and the price is higher per dollar on game days/nights. On a warm summer evening or a crisp fall day, it's the perfect place to be! The green field stands out against a bright blue sky and is so beautiful. Actually, any time at Providence Park is fun experience.

Yelp
This is really cool gigantic stadium! I interacted with many staff members and they were all incredibly pleasant and helpful. I've been to a few stadiums before and my only issue is that when you walk around the whole stadium you can't see the game inside (except for small door peeks). That allows for their ample seating though so not necessarily a bad thing. I just like walking around during games. The concessions area can get frighteningly packed and you're just standing still like a sardine waiting for a small opening in the crowd so you can get through. I'm usually great at getting through large crowds and was struggling here. Feels like a safety hazard but not much you can do about it. My jaw literally dropped when I paid about $50 for 3 beers + tip but I'm not used to stadium pricing. They require covid Vax info so make sure you have that handy!
google avatar

Shon K.

Yelp
Back in the day I used to watch a lot of baseball here at this stadium, some soccer as well over the years. They did a phenomenal job redesigning/remodeling the park into what it is today and overall it is a pretty good spot to watch a sporting event - be it like all soccer now. I support and appreciate the Portland Timbers - always have in all iterations of the franchise - this one is no different. If you are not a Timbers fan and support the visiting team, my word of caution to you would be to NOT sit near the Timber Army as they are less than nice for the most part. Portland fans can be unpleasant no matter what the sport, the Timber fans are no exception.

Yelp
So the whole harbour jumped out of a plane. We found the ships, and the shipyards, but where did the Port land? And a pig jumped out too, so where did the pork land? The Portland stadium is an absolute credit to the region, and it's the oldest soccer stadium in the country, and houses both the Thorns and the legendary Timbers. It's a region that doesn't have many real big name professional sports teams and the Timbers are one of the pride and joys of Oregon. They are also former Champions and when they play in the stadium it's honestly very hard for anyone to beat them. It is close to downtown and utterly amazing. We're going down, I'm yelling Timbers. Well I am not personally a fan of Portland and while I'm not personally a fan of this team I do have to say that it makes me proud see that an American football team can get such a passionate following in a definitively nontraditional and smaller market, for that matter. But Portland is a real boomtown and it shows in the obsessive raucous support for this club. I've been very impressed by everything I've seen from the Pacific Northwest MLS and long may it continue. It's been nothing short of amazing what Seattle and then Portland have done for the league. They're now integral to the league and great rivals and so they should be. It's been such an organic rise to prominence (sorry if I sound like a hipster but hey, it's Portland) and I have nothing but admiration for them and their amazing support as well.

Yelp
Came here for a Thorns game with my young daughter and we had a great experience. Entry was a cinch - we were through within seconds, which included the COVID check. Once inside, we easily found our seats with the help of staff. The stadium is very nice, modern, and clean. Only complaint was trying to get food in between halves - the lines were insane. But otherwise, it was a wonderful time and I look forward to coming back again soon.

Lincoln R.

Yelp
very great i loved the seats and it was a great game, i got to see the best game you could Timbers v Sounders and i have had no promblam exept how great the food is.

Yelp
How many sports game have I been to, zero... how much do I know about other venues, zero... how did I like this stadium, it was awesome and so originally Portland. Love the layout and the packedness of the crowd. Killer time, RCTID, right?
google avatar

Lauren M.

Yelp
I've been to stadiums and arenas all over the country and this was by far one of the best oiled "machines". I came here recently for a pretty packed Thorns game. So orderly, quick, and clear with entry. Everyone is following strict COVID guidelines and very polite. Mask up and vaccination cards currently required, which I'm sure may change with time as the regulations change. The stadium is clean and easy to navigate plus there's multiple food options, shopping and more. Great experience, not overwhelming, would be great to visit with kids because everything is so easy and clear.

Yelp
I love coming to Providence Park to watch the Portland Timbers, the Portland Thorns and T2 soccer. We ARE Soccer City, USA! And we have a great place to watch games. The staff at Providence Park are some really lovely people and have been very helpful to me personally many times when I got into the stadium and realized I was in a bind because I forgot...X. I was surprised to read someone complain about the food selections - it's a stadium and you're a captive audience so of course the prices are higher than off the street, but the food is actually pretty good! We have a rotating food cart option during Timbers matches and many vegan/vegetarian options such as field roast burgers and field roast sausages. There is also happy hour if you arrive early and need to save some ducats. If you find yourself in Portland, try to make it to a Timbers or Thorns match at Providence Park - it will be an experience you won't forget!

Yelp
2nd time here RSL FANS 4 life. Portland fans are still some of the nicest opposing team fans. Thanks for the generous welcome Timbers fans! P.s. As of now clear purses are not required yet.

Yelp
It's always amazing to me how much I don't know about my hometown's history until I go to research it on Google, but Providence Park has a fairly lengthy history even with the participation of a couple of U.S. Presidents. It was originally built in 1893 as an extension of the Multnomah Athletic Club. Theodore Roosevelt set a plaque under the foundation, and William Howard Taft gave a speech there. My involvement with the then PGE Park was in high school when I and a bunch of friends came down to spy on Kurt Russell. His dad. Bing Russell, owned The Portland Mavericks, a farm team for a major league team. I did see Kurt Russell, but he was too busy practicing baseball to pay attention to a bunch of high school girls. I also came back during summers home from college to see Beach Boy concerts which was great fun. Twirling the dial forward to the summer of 2011, I was living in the apartment building across the street and had the chance to watch the transformation of PGE Park to Providence Park now under the ownership of Merritt Paulsen. He is the owner of the MLS Soccer team, The Portland Timbers (male) and The Portland Roses (female). Portland went soccer-crazy and this has become one of the hottest tickets in town, especially since the Timbers have won the MLS championship three years! In fact they've expanded the bleacher seating by quite a lot and added covered seating. So there you go. Timber and Thorns fans are a jolly bunch and always seem to have a lot of fun. So let's get busy and go see them some time because I've never been to see them. I know; my bad!

Kathy B.

Yelp
Thanks for asking for proof of vaccination. I'd much rather be here with that in place. Great teams. Great beer. Lots of fun. Go Thorns. Go Timbers.
google avatar

Sean T.

Yelp
Well the Timbers FO have not messed with concession prices to badly this year. Their "happy hour" special for wristbands folks is a joke but the park is still amazing. Since the remodel it is awesome to just walk along the wall and see the history of the park #RCTID #PTFC #BAON #WHENIROOTIROOTFORTHETIMBERS
google avatar

Kelsie V.

Yelp
great arena to see a match. Clean, Lots of facilities, easy access from public transpo. and I feel they are quick to get people in and out for the events. My only complaint is the beer price. $13/beer. But the servings are larger than a usual pint and it's an EVENT, so that's that. Great Beer selection, too. If you don't see something you fancy in one beer stand, try the next one. I feel all the seating is pretty generous for a good view. The seats could use a cupholder though.
google avatar

Kirsten S.

Yelp
Attended 10 home games for the Portland Timbers this year. The newly renovated stadium has improved the fan experience. The three new deck above Key Bank section are cleaner, less crowded, and with shorter wait times for concessions and restrooms than the rest of the stadium. If you can splurge on Tanner Ridge tickets, get there early and enjoy the elevated experience. I've sat all over the stadium. Tanner Ridge is my favorite, but my 11 year old son prefers seats on the pitch directly behind the goal.
google avatar

Teddy F.

Yelp
After the renovations this park is gorgeous! I have always enjoyed coming to this stadium. Sitting in the Timbers Army is usually awesome and my first choice but this time there was some political problems between the fans and MLS from what I could understand. It made it very difficult to just enjoy the game regardless if I supported the position or not. Many of the spectators were very angry about the signs in the field of view. Ultimately, we left at half and watched the rest of the game from the bar across the street. Well probably be back. I'm sure this will blow over in time.
google avatar

Smith Q. J.

Yelp
You don't even let women bring a purse in. They have to pay five dollars to put all of their stuff in a cheap plastic bag that probably cost 25 cents to make. We had a few tiny bags so I opted to take the bags back to the car. Not to mention that we had mace in the purse because women aren't safe here with all the meth addicts downtown. There's no parking within 25 minutes so I had to walk for 50 minutes (to the car and back) and missed more than an hour of the Timber's game. Also the website with the tickets had an issue loading which also wasted about 15 minutes. Thanks for charging me full price to watch part of a game. Never ever coming to watch the Timber's again...o

Lou F.

Yelp
Amazing park, especially since the remodel! But this girl I like works on the same day as the Thorns games. How am I going to woo her now in true Portland lesbian fashion now? One star Edit: She took the day off and we will be attending a Thorns match in a couple weeks. Three stars

Yelp
So just moved to Portland and started a new job and the company I work for raffled off suite tickets (oh yes they were sweet!) to the Portland Thorns semi-final game last Sunday. Of course I won a pair! Took a friend who's lived in PDX for a couple of years and hadn't been to a Timbers or Thorns game. We were both pumped for it! Getting in was a breeze. Employees super helpful guiding us in the direction of the suites. We walked through like the in awe newbies we were taking in everything especially all of the good bad food and beer. Made it to the suite and both said: "Damn!" The field is fantastic. I am not a soccer fan but I love the competitiveness of all sports. The energy in the park was dynamic. It is so great to be in a city where the residents get behind their athletes and the athletes play their hearts out! From National Anthem which was sung perfectly to the first moments of the game I was hooked. The Thorns did not win but it wasn't because they didn't work for it. Yup, already have plans to the Timbers in a couple of weeks. Great job, PTFC! *Only one complaint: the server, Katie, for our suite barely made an appearance and not sure why. We continued to see servers in all of the suites around ours. Had to go and get our own beer which is just shameful.*

Yelp
Timbers!! Love coming here for a game. We've mostly sat in the Timbers army general admission seating which is seriously the best. On occasion, we've sat in assigned seating which hasn't been terrible. Once close to the army, once on the sidelines. Both times had a pole slightly obscuring our view. Meh. The food is garbage and the beers and stupid expensive. I definitely think anyone who actually buys stadium food and drinks are crazy. Also, I remember some animal cruelty issue with the owner of the food supplier. No thanks! I wish that American stadiums would not completely rip people off for snacks, but that's common everywhere not just here. Anyway, bathroom situation is all about timing. There are lots of lines, but sometimes you can get lucky and find a bathroom without too crazy of a line. Being downtown, I highly recommend taking transit. Parking is a nightmare and parking meters are extended on game days. There isn't a designated lot, so good luck with that. Post game the MAX is stuffed but it clears out quickly at Sunset if you're going west.

Yelp
Bought tickets for a Thorns game for $300 and had my wife test positive for covid. Still no refund, rain check or anything to help. Just sorry but you will have to lose $300 or sell them with 24 hours to the game. This park is discriminating against people who are not vaccinated. Their loss, I was going to purchase season tickets if I liked the park but won't buy a freaking sticker In support of discriminatory organizations. Shame on you.

Yelp
Great atmosphere for any Timbers game. Went last night for the season opener and the Army was rocking per the usual. Lines were short and quick to enter. The only minor annoyance is the space to walk around the concourse, but the building is about 100 years old so it makes sense. Great beer selection, food selection, and merchandise is readily available. Staff is always courteous and helpful. Extremely easy to get to thanks to ample parking and Portland's excellent public transportation system. A must visit for any soccer fan.

Yelp
The happiest place on earth...most of the time. The saddest place on earth all other times. But no matter my polarity at said times, I will always be RCTID! This is the most fun you can have with 22,000 of your closest friends! A great venue, excellent local vendors, fantastic world class soccer! It's an old park so the facilities are a bit dated...even if you have seats in the RESERVED seats, show up early because the narrow concourse does get backed up...but honestly, it always clears before the game starts...don't PANIC...either show up a little earlier or be patient...after all, you're gonna want to save that stress for the game!

Yelp
When rating a venue, you have to remember that you're really just voting on the facilities, not the jerks around you, not the sports teams... Having said that, I think the facilities are great. The view is always great, ticket prices are reasonable, the food is absolute garbage but hey what else could it really be? I think if they swapped it out for better and cheaper food there would be riots. I enjoy all the games I see here, and I love that it's covered.

Yelp
Nice work boys... nice work. I like the new field re-design here at Jeld Wen. What used to be home to lots of lazy-afternoon baseball games as well as a long history of Portland soccer is now strictly soccer - sports-wise at least. The new configuration is a well-designed rectangle with 2 high sides, the partially-covered east-side, and a (at least last night) rain-soaked uncovered beer garden on the MAC (South) end. From inside the hallways it has the same feel as the old PGE park, but once you get out on to the field, it has a great new feel. I was stoked to attend the home opener for the inaugural MLS season of Portland's home soccer club, and it was a doozy. The seats are great all around (as long as you have cover from the glorious P-town liquid spring), the beers are decent, the facilities can stand up to a large crowd, and the space overall is cozy (for a stadium). The only major downsides? The sound wasn't so good - it doesn't stand up to the roar of Soccer City USA's fans. Also, my phone didn't work inside the stadium (AT&T iPhone) - but I can't really blame the stadium for that, can I? Dunno. Oh, and the big one? No natural grass? Boo. Oh well, it's still a rad place to catch a match!

Yelp
Really? Are people really docking stars for having bad iPhone service at Jeld-Wen? I wasn't aware that it was such a critical experience to your sporting events...good thing it's not called AT&T Field. I typically have walked by here once or twice a week from when they started, & man...it is so nice to see it finally come to fruition. You have your 4 "main" seating sections. The South Bleachers (NEW), The West End, The Key Bank Club (NEW), & The North End (Timbers Army). The field is tucked in real close to the stands, although it retains the higher walls from it's multi-use days. Unfortunately it is not grass (supposedly due to being below the water level) but is supposed to be one of the best/latest FieldTurf fields ever put down. Google around & you can find a lot of articles around the country praising the stadium design & atmosphere it provides...so as a 4year season ticket holder, I'll just run through a few quick personal Pros & Cons. Pros: .Team store is open regularly. .Key Club section is beauuuuuuutiful. Kept sight lines from within the stadium to the street level too. One of my favorite views there is during a sunset, Oregonian building in the background...MAX passing by. EPIC. .Oddly, I kind of like having the Ushers checking tickets for each section. .Atmosphere, one of the BEST, if not THE BEST atmospheres in American Soccer. Retains the same loudness as before. .TV Angles provided from where they designate broadcast set-up are FANTASTIC. .Timbers Army has swollen. It made me giddy that you could hear singing coming from the fringes of the Key Club & West End as well. Can we dare dream that maybe one day the entire stadium? .Random...but I like how they did their "branding"/"visual identity" around the stadium. Good lookin' fonts for everything, clear, crisp visuals. Cons: .Oh, the bathroom situation...it can get pretty horrendous. Time your urination & bowel movements wisely. .With any sporting event...beer/food prices are pretty ridiculous. .A few (say, 10%) of the sections are uncovered...which might not be the most ideal on those rainy days...although we're all pretty much used to it. Looked beautiful on a rainy night, looked beautiful on a sunny day. We love our team & we love our new stadium. I've had friends that were soccer "naysayers" turn into season ticket holders. If you've never been...give it a shot...that's all I ask. You WILL NOT be disappointed. RCTID

Yelp
I was lucky enough to snag tickets to the Timbers Opening Night, and it was indeed a memorable night! First off, it was my first view into new stadium. Second, well, it's the TIMBERS. I really like what they've done with it. Before it felt somewhat old and run down. But now, gone are the dugouts, the old manual scoreboard. In it's place is new seating on the MAX side, fancier looking suites and the simple HUGE field. AND A NEW FANCY SCOREBOARD! And there's even video on it. That was always the most perplexing thing missing at good ole PGE. Getting into the field is somewhat of a mess & once you're inside, you're smooshed up against numerous people until everyone goes their own way. The concession stands are the same, with different food selections, Widmer on tap. A new bonus - the beer stands take cards! What hasn't changed is the attitude of the Timbers fan. Sitting in the Timbers army is my favorite way to experience the game, even if it means sitting the whole time. Everyone is connected, everyone cares & you'll lose your voice by the end of the night for sure. (Note: do not sit here if you have kids, the chants are by no means PG). I'm SUPER excited for the next games.

Yelp
Riding the MAX to and from work, I would see the renovation done to the stadium. I finally got to go inside to see a Timbers game and I was quite impressed with what was done to the place. Sure, it was the same stadium as before, but the atmosphere was so much better. Maybe it was the huge Timbers Army section, or the fact that there's now seating all around, I dunno. However, I do know that it's a good crowd. Plus almost every seat offers a good view of the field (there's some behind the beams). There's some of the minuses that probably couldn't be taken care of: crowded hallways, huge bathroom lines during halftime, bench seating (I didn't buy food so I don't know how expensive anything was). The place is small in comparison to other soccer stadiums, but that's the charm! When the Timbers Army gets going, the place is electric. Go see a game!

Yelp
Beautiful field! It was a pleasure to be a guest and see the Sounders beat the Timbers here! LOL Seats were great behind the goal! Restrooms, beer and grub were a hop, skip and a jump away! Kudos Portland!

Yelp
This review is strictly of the stadium. It seems like it is newly built. It's smaller than I thought for such a popular team. But this makes it so that almost every seat in the house is a good one. The lower level basically no one sits, so why did even bother putting in seats? It's not historic yet but maybe one day.

Yelp
If you're in Portland, catch a game at Providence Park; Tastefully modernized twist to an antique stadium. Ideal downtown Portland location makes catching a game here convenient and easily accessible by walking, bike, MAX or even pedi cycle! This unique stadium was once a baseball field, being updated many times. It sits on Tanner springs so the field is AstroTurf rather than grass. Providence Parks undeniable charm is it's vintage artifacts, the art work outside the stadium and the antique arching architecture. Walking inside you see this days-gone-by motif continue with vintage neon lights, enormous bathing beauty, wrought iron and large old photographs of its time as a baseball field. Once you pass through those gates the stadium is all modern! Especially loved the unique TASTY food such as Timber Pies, Tillamook Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Carlton Farms Pulled Pork, Bacon Wrapped Timber Brat, Charcuterie Box and stellar pizza from their own pizza oven. This pizza was da bomb. A huge alcohol selection. Beer sold in the stands!! The downside of this stadium is it's AstroTurf smell on hot days, and the extra tight seating from past years as bench seating. The Portlanders nice hospitality is unforgettable even when you are visiting as an opposing team. Or choose to sit in the cheering Timbers Section and celebrate a goal by LumberJack Jim chainsawing a redwood log. Check out this cool stadium.

Yelp
First off I'm a New York Red Bulls fan. I was in town and wanted to check out the new kids in MLS and I was very impressed with the fans and the team.... the stadium not so much. JeldWen Field is a converted baseball stadium so most of the seats are in the endzone. They're bleacher seats and they're first come, first serve (no assigned seating). But in no way will you be sitting! Timbers Army section is standing, singing and cheering only for 91min. That's right, Ninety ONE minutes! They'll continue cheering after the game ends. If you plan to watch the game, you better stand up because everyone else around is doing the same. Good Luck PTFC! You've got amazing fans.

Yelp
Is there a better place to watch soccer? No. I don't feel any more explanation is needed. Oh ya, for the first time at a game, go to the Timbers Army. You'll be hooked.

Yelp
When I root I root for the Timbers. I am a big fan. Here is why. They cleaned up the bathrooms added additional food vendors and got a team worth supporting in the stadium.

Yelp
Don't use the Mobil food order. You orde, pay then get told they "ran out" and will refund you at the end of the night... I was scammed out of $20
