Food Network Star Chef Michael Chiarello Dies After Severe Allergic Reaction | Eater SF

"I note that he had been hospitalized at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa while receiving treatment for an acute allergic reaction that led to anaphylactic shock over the past week, and that neither doctors nor his family know what caused the allergic reaction." - Lauren Saria

A Traditional Korean Deli Opens With a Bay Area Twist: It’s Online Delivery Only | Eater SF

"After missing authentic Korean food from New York when Clara Lee moved to the Bay Area, I learned she formalized the project as Queens, an “online Korean deli” whose online ordering goes live on February 15th. It will take orders for ready-to-eat dishes as well as fermented and frozen foods for customers to stash, make weekly deliveries to San Francisco customers (deliveries on Tuesdays in two delivery windows, with deliveries outside SF to come), and operate out of an Oakland commissary. The focus is on authentic banchan and stews like Kimchi Jjigae (aged kimchi, heritage pork, tofu, green onion, and dashi-anchovy stock). Lee emphasizes quite traditional food—you won’t find Korean fried chicken or other trendy items on her menu—and highlights fresh, local, seasonal produce common in the Bay Area, including wild greens like lamb’s quarters, foraged mushrooms, and abundant Napa cabbage. The business’s name nods to a New York borough but is actually an homage to her mother and grandmother and to the women who defined Korean flavors and cooking techniques, and Queens will also hold occasional pop-up dinners and tastings." - Caleb Pershan

I was taken by ambulance for a cardiac issue a couple months back. I was placed on a gurney that was in the hallway opposite a very busy elevator. The gurney was actually there because it was "SO OLD IT NO LONGER WORKED AND WAS TO BE DISPOSED OF!!" I was told by the nurse assigned to me that I would soon be put into a room.... THAT NEVER HAPPENED!!!! I was stuck on the gurney "MY WHOLE STAY IN THE ER, EVEN THOUGH I WATCHED PATIENT AFTER PATIENT COME AFTER ME WHO WERE PLACED IN ROOMS!!!" I WAS ASKED ALL MY PERSONAL AND MEDICAL INFO IN THAT HALLWAY AND THERE WAS NOOOOOO CONSIDERATION FOR MY PRIVACY OR CONFIDENTIALITY AS PERSON AFTER PERSON WALKED BY AND HEARD MY EVERY WORD!!!!! IT WAS HUMILIATING!!!! When it was determined I required an injection; I was taken to an office of another medical staff and given the shot.... IT WASN'T EVEN AN EXAM ROOM.... BUT AN EMPLOYEE'S OFFICE!!! Then to add insult to injury; the cardiologist assigned to my case NEVER spoke with my personal cardiologist and DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHO HE WAS!!! I had been there for hours AND THE DOCTOR DIDN'T DEEM IT NECESSARY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH MY PHYSICIAN.... In fact, even though he walked by me MULTIPLE TIMES as I lay on that crappy brokendown gurney after I arrived; HE NEVER ONCE STOPPED TO SAY I AM YOUR CARDIOLOGIST AND THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO DO 1ST.... in fact, I watched him go by me many times and I was invisible, EVEN THOUGH HE HAD TIME TO CHAT WITH THE NURSES HANGING AROUND AND DOING NOTHING AT THE TIME. Complaining about my situation fell on UNCARING EARS. I had NO CALL LIGHT OR WAY TO ADJUST THE GURNEY, AND AS SOMEONE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES, I NEEDED TO BE ABLE TO ADJUST THE GURNEY TO KEEP MYSELF COMFORTABLE! I actually had to beg anyone walking by to adjust it for me and if I needed help; BECAUSE I HAD NO CALL LIGHT AS WELL!!! If I had not had my personal wheelchair by this gurney so I could get to the bathroom; I BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE JUST CONTINUED TO BE IGNORED. THIS WAS A CALLOUS, NEGLECTFUL, UNPROFESSIONAL AND HUMILIATING EXPERIENCE AND I FINALLY LEFT NOT BEING TREATED. I have not even shared "THE OTHER THINGS THAT WENT ON IN THIS HOUSE OF HUMILIATION!!!!" If I felt making a formal complaint would help.... I WOULD HAVE DONE SO; but NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN OR CHANGE.... this is obvious by reading "ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS OF THIS ER/HOSPITAL----2.9 STARS OUT OF 5 says it all! I WILL RISK HAVING A HEART ATTACK BEFORE I WILL RETURN TO THIS ER FOR CARE. For whatever reasons, I felt I was treated differently than others in the ER. Maybe it was because I was there alone, I am low income, a person of color, a senior, a differently abled person.... WHO KNOWS..... But I left there feeling humiliated, dismissed, neglected, ignored, angry, frustrated and heartbroken how I was treated. HOW DO YOU ARTICULATE THE WAY ONE FEELS AFTER SUCH AN EXPERIENCE AND AT A FACILITY WHERE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE CARED ABOUT AND FOR?....... I left that place; and as I sat in front of the ER and waited for a ride; I quietly wept; and I am STILL weeping.... And the pain of this experience will NEVER leave me.

Really disheartening to go into the ER looking for my spouse and be told "we don't have anyone by that name" As I'm walking out the ER, an ER nurse calls me to relay a message from my wife. I understand patient's name may not always be available, but this facility would benefit from establishing a system where ER patient's names (when available) are relayed to front desk so spouses aren't left confused having to call other hospitals/police departments to figure out the whereabouts of loved ones. 8/28/2025 @ 11:55 PM

My wife cut her hand and required four stitches. From reception to pre-op to the actual procedure, everyone was nothing but understanding, kind, and extremely professional. We are visiting from out of town and were expecting a few hours of waiting (we’re used to triage in a major metropolitan area taking some time), but we were in and out in 1.5 hours. In my book this is “as good as it gets” as far as trips to the ER go. Was surprised to see so many negative reviews after coming here to post this.

I had one of the worst experiences at this hospital, particularly under the care of Dr. Smith. I was in severe pain due to ongoing gastrointestinal issues, and not only was I treated poorly, but I also felt completely dismissed. Dr. Smith showed a lack of knowledge and professionalism that was alarming. He didn’t review or explain any of my lab results, including the fact that I had a kidney stone. I only found out later through looking at my lab work online & my PCP also questioned his competence which is low. The way patients are treated here seems to depend on assumptions about their financial status, which is both offensive and unethical. It’s funny because he has no clue who I am. Anywho, I felt neglected disrespected, as though my pain didn’t matter. Dr. Smith’s behavior in particular was unacceptable he spoke loudly about patients in the hallway, showing a disturbing lack of privacy or compassion. I even witnessed him completely mismanage another patient’s care, she could have had a stroke but he assumed I’m sure she was “too young,” and prescribing everything except the correct medication for a migraine. He believed she only had a headache, and he BP was high but he said that was not concerning, again incompetent. If you care about your health, I strongly advise avoiding this hospital. The lack of prioritization, medical knowledge, and basic decency could seriously put patients at risk. This is not the place to go if you're looking for proper care or accountability. RUN!!! to save your life. I had to go to another hospital too!

I recently visited their ER in the middle of the night due to a possible foot fracture and the PQVMC team was wonderful. Within 10 minutes of entering, vitals were done, I had a private bed in the ER and met with the medical team (including my attending doctor), who addressed urgent concerns related to pain and upcoming travel. X-rays were completed and I was on my way within 2 hours. The only other comment I have is that the facility is outdated, however don’t let that deter you from receiving care here.

I had three (unfortunate) visits to the Emergency Department in the last 14 months. All three times were five star. All the way. (One was stitches in a finger from a new kitchen knife, one was sepsis and acute appendicitis which led to a two week hospitalization and major surgery called a right hemicholectomy, one was two weeks following discharge when I was treated for complication from the surgery. All incredible staff and medical attention. I’d give a five star review but during the 2 week stay I had one terrible nurse. The only time she was in my room on the surgery floor was to change my IV. I had two friends visiting me at the time, and they were floored by the way she treated me. I talked to a very nice nursing manager about what happened. The nurse never came near me again, and everyone else was wonderful. The reason I’m deleting a star is because no one acknowledged this was completely inappropriate of her, no one apologized for her behavior. I felt unheard and like I was being difficult, when in fact the IV needle was not inserted properly and was causing great pain in my arm. I screamed when they tried to put fluid into it (to test it for a CT scan with contrast). Obviously they fixed it immediately in radiology - they were great - but when I’d told the nurse it hurt and I didn’t think it was in my vein she stood up, “Said maybe you’re just a hypochondriac!” and walked out the door. I would have felt so much better if the manager (or if she had) apologized to me. But other than that! I loved everyone who took care of me. Very grateful to Dr. Matthew Shephard for being willing to operate on me when I was just a wildcard after having an “appendectomy” in Sicily where they actually didn’t remove my appendix at all. I am so lucky to be alive, and very grateful to everyone at The Queen…and don’t get me started on the food!! It was fantastic. 100x better than the food in an Italian hospital, who would have thought??!

Google
You must be absolutely 💯 desperate to go here. My Aunt request the right to die... and was told she would recieve that. After 48 hrs, they pulled her IV, and have woken her up not once but twice, to tell her she wasn't dying fast enough and thst she needed to leave and go die elsewhere. After I valled and corrected this horrific nursing decision, I was contact by an oncologist who told me that in no way would happen. Reassured me that she woudlnt be transferred and that she would be cared for. Not.more than a day and half later, I watched as they did it again. Pulled her IV and brought her around to tell her to leave and die elsewhere. What cruelty is this? This is suppossed to be a Catholic Christian Hospital? Who does stuff like this? This is inhumane and cruel. What a joke of a hospital. No one here took an oath to help and serve people, thats for sure clear. If at all possible, PLEASE TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE ELSEWHERE. Noone that you care about should endure this. They will not give them dignity or comfort. I walked out of her room and three of the nurse staff was watching youtube and ticktock videos about clothing. Are you serious?!?!! Do your job or quit.

Google
Receptionist, staff, nurses are all rude to me and our family has been waiting from Friday 12-6 until Monday 12-9 and we still do not have 1 staff member who will tell us what diagnosis or status on my brother. I understand there are confidential concerns due to him coming from Napa State Hospital- but so far there is no compassion, dignity, justice, excellence, nor integrity. He was in ICU and no one called us at all, and no common consideration. I have been on the phone since 9am and still no info? When I explained I was on hold for 45 minutes waiting to talk to his nurse I was told I was being nasty? I am still waiting to know his diagnosis and condition. Very disrespectful and they blame Napa State Hospital - still no info.

Yelp
When your advice nurse tells you you need to go to the emergency room on Thanksgiving evening, you are feeling all kinds of dismay. From the glass of wine I had after dinner, to missing the early morning Black Friday experience (this is the best part of Black Friday). So after calculating the time it requires to sober up, I was gonna head off to the emergency room at 10 PM. I showed up at Queen of the valley emergency room. It was surprisingly full for Thanksgiving evening. There must've been somewhere between 3 to 5 patients in the waiting room. Signing in at the registration desk was a piece of cake. They give you the usual bit of paperwork to fill out. And then it was just a matter of waiting it out. Given the time, it wasn't a surprise that many of the patients had much more urgent medical situations. I ended up waiting till close to midnight. Once it was my turn, things move briskly. They measured this and measured that and then put me in to the queue to see the doctor. I wish I could remember names, but I was darn sleepy. I would say the doctor showed an abundance of caution. They x-rayed the critical spot. They wish they could take an MRI but that equipment was too bulky for the emergency room. They concluded my injury needed to see an in office doctor ASAP. Since it was Thanksgiving evening, parking was a snap. It was relatively quiet. And since my injury was to my foot, the entrance was clearly very accessible. All in all, I got back home around 2 AM in the morning. If you want to get prompt service in the emergency room, honestly the best thing to do is to show up at 2 AM in the morning when everyone else has sensibly gone to bed. I would totally recommend using this emergency room, the wait time is certainly less horrendous than other urgent care/emergency rooms that I have been in, the staff and the doctors were meticulous. But keep in mind that I had a very different experience from your every day situation in the emergency room. Clearly many people had probably put off anything until after Thanksgiving. I also showed up rather late in the evening and that always helps.

Yelp
Compassionate, Skilled, and Truly Exceptional ICU Care The ICU team at Queen of the Valley is beyond exceptional. Over the past year, our family member, was admitted several times -- the last time, he did not come home. Dr. Schroeder guided us through the hardest decision a family could face, with compassion, empathy, and professionalism that words can't fully capture. Every nurse, doctor, and staff member treated our family member with dignity and cared for his three young adult children like their own. Their skill, kindness, and humanity made an unbearable situation just a little more bearable. From the bottom of my heart -- thank you, Queen of the Valley ICU. You are a gift to this community.

Yelp
Anesthesiologist was indifferent and unhelpful. Did not listen and did not do her job well. I had the same procedure (cataract removal) 3 weeks ago on one eye and the same procedure on the other eye today. If my first experience, which was done at a different facility but with the same ophthalmologist, had been like this one, I would not have had the procedure done. This should not have been a white-knuckle affair. It was, due to the failure of the anesthesiologist to do her job well. If I knew her name, I would give it here, but I don't I made my feelings known at the time, and she assured me she knew best. She did not. If I could rate my experience lower than a 1 I certainly would.

Yelp
I had a truly exceptional experience at the ER at Queen of the Valley hospital. As a local in Napa Valley, I have had other excellent scheduled appointments at Queen, but today's unexpected visit to the ER really stood out. From my first encounter at registration until the time I left, they all took exceptional care of me. Kind and courteous; they all went above and beyond to make me feel taken care of and a priority to them. Hospitals can be very stressful. Each person did their best to alleviate my stress. Thank you all and a very special shout to Zoe in imaging. Your kindness was very much appreciated.

Yelp
Went in for unbearable back nerve pain at 5am. Was admitted within a few minutes. Yes I had to wait because they had an emergency and my total time there was 3 hours but it was well worth it.The Nurses are the best and Dr. BEAUVAIS is a genius. he checked for a kidney infection first and then told me the problem. THANKS TO ALL. Medicine is working. THANKS DR. BEAUVAIS. I'm very sorry to all those that met with problems. Al

Yelp
I have nothing but praise and respect for Queen of the Valley ER Staff. Highly professional, caring, compassionate. You feel safe and cared for the moment you walk in. If you need to go to Emergency, I highly recommend the Queen of the Valley ER..

Marissa A.

Yelp
While I appreciated your concern, your maternity ward doesn't advocate patient health or wishes. Your system is broken! No one should give birth there without an advocate because of your emotionally abusive nurses.

Yelp
Nine days in this incredibly clean, friendly hospital with such knowledgeable doctors, and nurses! Best nurse ever was Virginia on the third floor. Oh my, did I love that girl! Tried to give her a gift and they can't accept gifts, but they can except food for the staff to put in the break room! So I'm going to bake my famous rum cake soon for all those incredible nurses! Thank you all for your knowledge and expertise and kindness!

Yelp
Operator of the ED name Reina was EXTREMELY rude and condescending. Had so much attitude, very short, and not helpful at all when I asked simple questions. She kept sighing and was being a smartass. Can't even do her job properly being the operator, don't know how she's qualified when she can't even do simple tasks.

Bruce Alex R.

Yelp
QOV ER. totally incompetent people stacked to the rafters no dr in attendance waited for hours and finally came home without care never going there again

Michael P.

Yelp
Went to the ER recently. They didn't clean or dress my wounds. They didn't prescribe any antibiotics or pain killers. They left me alone for long periods of time with no care. I'm going to a follow up with my doctor tomorrow and feel like I should have just skipped the ER. Because as bad as my clinic is(and they're bad) these people did even less. If you're dying it might be worth it.

Yelp
I recently moved permanently from Reno to the fabulous little city of Napa. Upon reading horrible reviews about "The Queen", I was scared as I had brought some fairly important health issues with me. At my new internal medicine office, I was assigned a PA instead of a real Dr. (hmmm). She's absolutely great!! She fixes what she's supposed to, and gets me into appointments with the specialists. At the hospital, I've had a surgery that required an overnight, many other tests and procedures and several ER visits with my late, great wife and myself. Yup ER visits were slow; I've been in a ridiculous number of ERs around the country....they're all slow. I've seen others, as well as myself treated very well by very caring good medical people....without exception. The food wasn't bad for food mass produced in a distant kitchen, it worked just fine for me. I was impressed by the fact that everyone seemed to take pride in their work, and genuinely cared. Good, caring experiences in tough situations.

Yelp
The wrong phone number was shown on yelp. The correct phone number is (707) 252-4411 for Queen of the Valley Medical Center hospital located at 1000 Trancas Street in Napa, CA. Hopefully, yelp staff will correct this mistake as soon as possible.

Yelp
Visited this hospital during my grandfather's last week before his passing, and although it was a hard week, I really appreciated the hard work, love and effort all the nurses had done for my grandfather. They were so loving, patient, kind, attentive, and everything you think would define a nurse. The nurses helped us celebrate his birthday by singing happy birthday to him, and overall just took great care of him-- both day and night shift nurses. I'm very thankful to all the kind staff for being so kind, gentle and understanding to him and to our family.

Kristina L.

Yelp
I went to this hospital ER with Kidney stone moving through my urinary tubes screaming in pain on a scale of 10. My Dr is with this hospital and told me to go here if my stone moved. I got triage in a reasonable time frame but was told There were NO BEDS NO ROOMS and to WAIT.... What?? What??? You can't wait for a kidney stone that's pushing through your body for pain meds. The triage nurse herself said "you need to be getting major drugs and monitored for your pain so we need to wait for a room." Exactly!! An hour went by I was still screaming in pain. I called the doctors office. They told me to find an Urgent Care, but they won't administer morphine, which is what you usually get when this happens and there are are no other ER closer than another half hour drive. I asked even asked to be put on a gurney in the hallway. They told me that the hallways were full. Wait Really??? What the HELL is going on that I can't get care in Napa for an emergency kidney stone??!!!!!! I'm a resident and my Dr is with the hospital, I'm so shocked. After two hours I'm now home in so much pain trying to manage this myself no help no care in Napa! So tomorrow I'll drive to Fairfield to Sutter and go to a real hospital! Don't go here if you have an emergency ‼ EVER

Moj Y.

Yelp
Awful. They are always short staffed. If you go to ER it takes them 10 hours to get you out. You might as well die in ER. They don't have a radiologist at night to read your CT scans. They have to send out to third party. And the third party takes "multiple hours" we were told. Then why are you open at nights ??? How can you help people with emergencies if you don't have a radiology department? There has got to be better options in Napa than this

Sam C.

Yelp
If I could provide zero stars, I would. This review specifically concerns Dr James Lau and his receptionist Emma, who are the rudest, least helpful service providers I have ever encountered in any country or medical system, ever. Dr Lau refused to accept a referral from my physician despite the condition being clearly within his area of expertise. Any positive reviews of his practice shown on the Providence web site are not to believed, as they are selected by Providence (and you cannot add to them online). We have proceeded to file a Breeze complaint with the Medical Review Board of CA and strongly advise anyone considering his practice to avoid him.

Yelp
Having relocated from Los Angeles to Napa almost a year ago, I recently underwent surgery at Queen of the Valley Hospital. I am beyond impressed and grateful for the exemplary care provided by DR. James Lau and the medical staff at the hospital. Their expertise and commitment to ensuring a positive patient experience have left an indelible impression on me. my experience at Queen of the Valley Hospital has solidified my belief in the superiority of the healthcare provided in Napa. The medical staff's exceptional skills, compassionate nature, and unwavering commitment to patient satisfaction have surpassed the standards set by larger metropolitan hospitals,. It is with the utmost confidence and gratitude that I highly recommend Queen of the Valley Hospital to anyone seeking superior healthcare services. Thanks everyone

Tom E.

Yelp
Something to consider. On June 1st of this year I went to the ER at the Queen of the valley hospital for some pain relief on a sciatic nerve issue I was having. For about 4 hours they pumped me full of pain meds and muscle relaxers thru an IV. that did me no good but made my insides bleed. The staff didn't seem to know what the hell they were doing all I did was suffer for about 4 hours on a gurney, it was the worst experience I've ever had I would recommend never to go to the emergency room at the Queen of the valley. They wanted to admit me in the hospital for pain management, and run the same cycle through me again I probably would have died if I stayed in there. They started with zofran, toradol, lidocaine patch wow that was helpful, Percocet, toradol again, robaxin, decadron, ketamine and last but not least morphine it was a good time out... Decided not to get admitted to the hospital for the same go again so I left the hospital feeling more pain than when I went in... Now I have some fat hospital bills to pay and got no relief at all... What a shame...

Julian A.

Yelp
Thank you for the love and care and professionalism that the nurses and staff has provided in the labor and delivery! Shout out to the security personal Tyrese! As well as the Doctors! If you don't have a wonderful experience here it may be time to check how you treat people.

Yelp
I want to Thank the admitting Dr.. She understood about our family disorder, when the ER Dr. did not and did not want to here what we were saying.

Yelp
Took my dad here like 4 times now and it was not satisfying each of the 4 times. I took my dad to the emergency room 4 times and don't help at all. They just put my dad in a room and left him there. NOTHING. They didn't do anything at all. They took some blood tests each time we went. They tell him about different diseases every time. We just found a place in Vacaville where they care about their patients. We had one appointment so far but they have done way more than they ever did here. Never took my dad or any of my relatives here.

Yelp
Today I returned a phone call from my Healthcare staff requesting I schedule an appt to review recently completed labwork wth my NP. Appt desk offered me their first appt.... which was 7 weeks later! (47 days!). I thought I misheard them. This is pathetic. What is happening to our Healthcare and providers? I am a senior on 6 daily. In the past I have been very satisfied with my interactions and care provided by my assigned Healthcare professionals. But, if you can,'t get a timely appt. to see them it really doesn't matter, does it?

Yelp
I've never been to a hospital and felt like it was going to get me sick before. Granted, I only experienced the waiting room and the ER. So you can have 1 Star in hopes the rest of the hospital is better. But somehow I doubt it. Let's start with the staff. One nice lady when we checked in was the only staff member I saw that wore a mask and took it seriously the whole time. The rest of the nurses and doctors alike just couldn't keep a mask on their face! For a hospital full of people that have to contend with Covid on the daily, this blew my mind. You can't really get away with telling people to wear a mask, if you yourself don't have the capacity to do it. Also, it seems as if all the people that work here are on the same page about being gross little piggies! I watched numerous staff members just throw trash all over the room instead of the garbage! WTF?! Yes I see the garbage is over flowing, but seriously? Now to single out my least favorite person. You win the biggest asshat award. You wear a green suit. Your badge says therapy. And your name is something like Backlava. I watched this dimwit walk into the room with gloves on, and wash her hands. With gloves on. Then take the gloves off and throw them away. Ok. Stop right there. You shouldn't be allowed in a hospital unless it's a mental hospital and you live there. And they let you run around with needles? Now I know for a fact the medical industry is short staffed. You single handedly make nurses look bad. When she walked in the room, the real blood drawing lady asked you to turn out the lights when you left the room. That didn't happen. Pay attention. Do your job. Or go recycle garbage at bottle rock. Maybe you won't be awful at that job. Onto the general ambiance of this trash heap. So who doesn't like a trip down retro lane?! When you see an old car that fits into the classic category sitting in someone's yard with weeds growing thru it, knowing that there's some old guy going, one of these days I'll get around to fixing that thing.... You don't think wow, that's amazing! You think, get rid of that pile of rust! Same can be said of this hospital. You would think wine country might pool their resources and have a safe clean hospital to take their ill too. Guess those families don't get sick. How lovely for the rich.... This place hasn't been cleaned since the 60's. Consequently it's the same time they installed all their "working gear"! Cool to see relics of the past. But I don't trust my wife getting medical attention at a disgusting run down museum! Your best bet is to burn this place down and start fresh. I'll include a fun pic that you can play a game with. Zoom in and count how many things you see that you don't want to see in an emergency room

Ellie S.

Yelp
Nina in surgery scheduling dept is the worst employee I've ever had to talk to or deal with. She said she doesn't have a voicemail. What professional person who manages the surgery schedule for a major hospital not have a vm? Also the nursing staff in L&D has gone down hill so much since 2020. I don't know if maybe their motto is now to "treat patients so badly that they want to get out of there as fast as possible" but that's what it seems like. I was never checked on I had to call when I was past due for medications, they someone forgot to bring me dinner my first night after my c section (I had been fasting for 20 hours at that point so I was starving) however apparently the other new moms in the other rooms all got their meals... I was treated so poorly that I left after two days when I really should've stayed one more night. It sucks because when I had my last baby in 2020 I had the best experience ever. So I was hoping for a similar experience but was shocked to find a complete 180 has happened in L&D since then.

Yelp
I went to the emergency department after a fall. I was seen in a relatively decent period of time. I was seen by a PA. I was concerned about a foreign object embedded in my lip. This guy told me the best thing to do was either nothing and live with it or he could cut into my lip and probe for the object. in my world neither was an option and this guy insisted a CT scan, X-ray and sonogram were not an option. I went to Southern California to another doctor that was able to find the object before cutting and probing aimlessl.

Yelp
I was discharged two weeks ago after a 14 stint at The Queen. I was admitted through the ER on May 19th. The care I received was exemplary. Once on the 3rd floor, and the 2nd Floor South, I had equally good care. I truly appreciated my surgeon and the other doctors who treated me. There was one exceptionally rude and unkind nurse who came in to give me a new IV one day. I shared my experience with the charge nurse and she was extremely apologetic. The other bigger "ouch" was the delay in getting pain meds after surgery. I don't know where the ball was dropped, but there was no order on file for any meds, and my surgeon was with his next patient and the two other attending physicians in the hospital weren't responding to the nurses paging them. It was a 5 hour wait before I got meds, and I was in excruciating pain the last few hours. But other than that, it's a 10/10 for literally every other experience. We don't live in a perfect world, and I don't expect perfection. The staff of The Queen DEFINITELY saved my life. They were kind and caring. I was pretty traumatized when I was admitted and they were so supportive and encouraging. The food was even good, although I only got to eat the last two days out of 14. I couldn't be more grateful!!

Yelp
Our daughter was flown there for care. The knowledge, professionalism, and immediate care with specialist's was amazing. The tests she needed were completed and diagnosis made within 24 hours. We would recommend Queen of the Valley in Napa to everyone

Yelp
I was transported from a small hospital about 4 hours away. I was told I was having seizures that is why I was transported here. They ran a few tests told me it's wasn't seizures because you can't be conscious when you have seizures. The Dr told me that they where taking me off all seizures meds and fellow up with my primary care. She said that they could refer me to a specialist. She told me that I could wait until morning to go home and she would chart that. A few hours later a social worker comes in and said it's time for me to go. I advise her that I already spoke with the doctor and because of how far of a drive it is I could wait until morning to leave. She got upset with me and told me that I can't stay until morning the discharge orders are in. I would say this hospital is like every kaiser hospital out their profits over people.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience with the security guards in this hospital my sister was in ICU on a ventilator and I was here visiting and being with my family for support, I was aware visiting hours are from 8:00 am to 8:00pm and it was 5:30 and he approached my family with his hand on his weapon and was very aggressive with his words telling us we had 5 minutes to leave the hospital or he would escort us out of the hospital and he eventually did before visiting hours was over, I was very frightened of him and also that he was being discriminating toward me and my family, I'm very disappointed in this hospital staff on the way they approach people who have family in here

Yelp
5 hours in the ER. I was in a lot of pain. Never even laid eyes on the Dr. More than disappointing. Just left.

Yelp
The Acute Rehabilitation Unit could not have been better. Highly disciplined, mindful professionals with hearts of gold generate a loving family atmosphere that helped my healing tons. Tavarus, Jan, Bonnie, Ala, Pearl, Genesis, Danielle, Michael, Paul, Danny, Kenneth, Tiana, Terry, Rachel, Sharon, Katie and a village of many more wondrous people helped me successfully transition from high pain barely able to move to independent home functioning including kitty litter. With good enough food Dr. Alex Miner runs a tight ship with no weak links I saw in my 12 days recovering from fractured acetabulae with 90 days of BLE NWB in front of me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yelp
Great staff& great doctors! What's stopping me from giving a 4-5star rating is their poor management of their E.R. Understanding how busy the hospital is but to have someone waiting 3 hours, to then go "Oh! Yes hold on just a minute I'll call the back an see if a beds open for you" like you had honestly forgotten a person has been in the waiting room this whole time is unacceptable.

Yelp
My husband suffered a seizure while out to lunch with his clients, and fell/bashed his head on concrete. When I got to the hospital, the staff in the ER were so thoughtful, and went into great detail to explain what the next steps are. Once he had a CT scan, and stitched up his face, he was transported to a room outside the ER. The staff up there was just as amazing. They checked on his all the time, and were just so informative and friendly. When I visited they treated me just as attentively as my husband. Our nurse Brittany was amazing! The whole staff, and the neurologist really went above and beyond! If we didn't live in Sacramento, I would make the switch to have them as our dr's and nurses. They made a very traumatic experience for myself and my husband a little more bearable by being so amazing!

Yelp
My mom was sent here for PT, which getting her into the hospital was a complete joke! Both parents are 80 years old, dad has had multiple problems with his heart and has congestive heart failure, mom has Alzheimer's and has extreme difficulty walking as well as a bad back that she's in constant pain with daily. Getting her in and out of the car is hard enough but when you can't find a handicap parking spot is when it becomes ridiculous! Too many reserved spots for young physicians that have the capability to walk across a parking lot, unlike the elderly. Never could find parking except on the other side of the hospital and had to push her chair not only to the main entrance but then through the hospital as well. There are doors right next to PT they don't allow you to enter just exit. It would make a world of difference for the hospital to make things somewhat easier for elderly retired vets that are in poor health. We ended up canceling the rest of her appointments as it just became way too much.

Yelp
I've been going to this ER and Hospital for years but was never so verbally mistreated until the other day. I understand that COVID-19 is stressing people out let alone the current fires going on but that doesn't mean you can treat your patient with so much disrespect. I was evaluated by someone. I won't be posting the persons name out of respect. This "Doctor" first made a comment and I quote "Is there a reason for these compression socks" I said "I have POTS and I need them." I already felt uneasy but I was there to have my leg examined because I felt like I had water dribbling down my lower calf with more pain. The "doctor" then went on, examined my leg for a short 2 mins. After the "doctor" proceeded to say, "I just can't do an MRI unless this was an emergency" "in a perfect world maybe 20 years from now I could but I just can't send you for an MRI from the ER" "You might have a bakers cyst but that's an assumption.. you won't know unless you have an MRI and I just can't give you that" " I have to do my job" "those are used for people who have had a stroke or something else emergency related" I felt like a fool and I was humiliated. I wasn't there for fun or to waste their time. I was there to actually get help for something I've been dealing with for almost 2 weeks. It was very unprofessional in my opinion to be treated this way. When I was seen at Prompt Care 2 weeks ago they took me in right away. I was treated with respect and sympathy. They had said that I might've had a bakers cyst and may have torn something but would need an MRI to determine that but they did order X rays despite nothing showing up because torn ligaments and such will not show up on those. I have been given the run around with the Orthopedic I was referred to therefore I haven't even able to have an MRI.

Yelp
Avoid going here at all costs. I've been here for two MRIs, a spinal tap, a trip to the ER for a blood patch for the botched spinal tap, and most recently another trip to the ER to see if I needed stitches for a gash on my hand. The only time I felt truly cared for was by the nurses before my spinal and the nurse and doctor during the blood patch. My most recent ER visit has been a financial nightmare. I've tried to contact the hospital to provide photos to back up my dissatisfaction, but they've never returned contact. I emailed multiple times and submitted the after-visit survey with a request to contact me. Radio silence. For a 1.5" cut on my hand, they decided to use dermabond instead of stitch it. Cool, except they didn't cover the entire gash, so the entire thing split open in less than 24 hours. I got a bill two months later with an almost EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLAR, completely vague "hospital charge." People go to the hospital to be made whole. They did NOT do this. They gave me a tetanus shot even though I said I had been recently vaccinated, which from my conversations with friends in the medical field increased my "level of trauma" so they could charge me more. Absolutely ridiculous, so I've refused to pay the bill, and instead of working with me, they've sent it to collections. I've already paid over $500 between my copay and the doctor fee i was billed. I think that's more than enough for a complete waste of time and money.

Yelp
I rarely review anything, but this was such a disturbing experience I had to say something. I had walked into a sliding glass door - hard. Not my house, all alone, had forgotten that room used to be outside. Stunned, in pain, grabbed an ice pack then called my husband who told me to go to the ER. I asked him to stay on the phone with me while I drove, in case I passed out on the way, so I walked into the er holding an ice pack to my face, saying "ok, I made it, oh no, I forgot a mask." The receptionist, who was so short I didn't see her behind the desk when I walked in, came out from behind the desk, shoved a mask at me and demanded I put it on- while I still am holding an ice pack to my face. When I couldn't figure out how to wear a mask and an ice pack she scolded me for not explaining to her I had injured my nose. Fast forward to me in the exam room, the first person to come in was a nurse who has her mask below her nose. What??? She was surprised the doctor hadn't seen me yet. It had only a few minutes. The next person in introduced himself by his first name and then proceeded to check my forehead and eyes. I asked him about my nose and he said he assumed I had hit my head as he checked my nose. Then I told him my teeth hurt, again, he said he assumed I had only hit my forehead and nose. Not a single question about what happened or what hurt. Then he clarified he is just a PA, not a doctor. The discharge papers didn't match what he said. After I got that clarified, someone came in to register me and explain that the doctors are independent contractors and bill separately and my insurance may not cover them, please initial here that you understand you may be billed by someone your insurance does not cover. Remember, this is part of my discharge. I wrote "refuse to sign" next to that. The pharmacy I thought I had confirmed as the place they called it in wasn't open, the pharmacy where they did call it in also wasn't open. Went back to hospital. Was told by a nurse that she doesn't live in Napa, how is she supposed to know about what pharmacy is open at night. While sitting there a couple comes in and asks Marie, the receptionist, if she speaks Spanish. She says no, nothing more. No English, too bad, can't help you. Incompetence and rudeness and no way to get me the Rx the doctor ordered. And after I got back to where I am staying, the id bracelet slipped off my wrist. They couldn't even get that right.

Yelp
Once again the doors from the entrance of the hospital are closed when it says visit ours are until 8pm doesn't make any sense to have a time set when they don't follow the rules

Yelp
My husband was a patient at Queen of the valley for 10 days. He received excellent care. We were exceptional pleased with the prompt admission and treatment in ER; the whole staff in ER was awesome! He also received prompt attention from his(soon to be) surgeon, Dr Dan Birkbeck, who also provided great care. The hospital room was clean and private, nurses professional, and the area fairly quiet. Our deepest thanks and gratitude to all the staff.

Yelp
Felt like a number here my wife and I both came here with the same sickness but without blood testing and a 5 minute conversation, 2 different Diagnoses and 2 different meds. Quick service though 1 hr waiting but instant sIgn in and 5 min doctor's wait once in the room. I have a worry, I some rare illnesses and the nurse didn't appear to believe me on a couple things and there was no history asked for by all I encountered. When I come in in the future I'll bring my file as I fear the history part is going to be needed but not believed.

Yelp
After the clinic in Napa messed up I ended up having an emergency trip here. I managed to get my depression medication and have a talk with the doctor whom gave me good advice on how to proceed to talking with the only place that takes my medication (Ole) I understand that since I was not injured that I was down the list of people to see, but no one made me feel silly for having gone in.

Yelp
I had surgery about a week ago. Prior to surgery I had some labs to do. I had to go to the doctor's office and get a copy of the orders before I could schedule the lab work. The lab said that orders take about 24 hours and they didn't have mind yet so they were happy I brought the copies. My doctor also ordered a chest X-Ray and an EKG. I had to make another trip to the doctor's office to get a copy of the orders. Once again the computer system doesn't process orders quickly. With orders in hand the hospital still had trouble scheduling the procedures. They have to follow the rules was what I was told. I had to beg them to consider doing these tests so my surgery could happen. The problem seems to be a huge system that doesn't work very well. Almost anyone you talk to over the phone is anywhere from Seattle to Las Angeles and has no idea that this is a problem. It takes about 20 to 30 minutes to connect and they tell you to call back because the orders are not in the system. This is a major problem. If I wasn't able bodied I would not have been able to have my surgery done. I was able to get everything done. People were very nice and capable once they agreed to do the tests. On the day of surgery everything went well and all the staff was wonderful. The only issue was the nurse at the end of the day wanted to go home and was pushing me out the door. Recovery was a slow process for me. I could hardly walk but went home. Hopefully this issue of slow computers can be dealt with. Also we need a hospital here in Napa. Most people I know are going to Kaiser or St. Helena where they seem more organized.

Yelp
My twin brother died here at the hospital while he was in the NICU, not to mention him and I were premature babies. The nurses wore acrylics nails and didn't care for my brother property. I wish my mom would have filed a lawsuit against this hospital. very unprofessional. I wish I wasn't born at this hospital... because maybe my brother would have been alive. Go to a different hospital if you can.

Yelp
The medical care here was ok, but the caseworker Jenna or Grenna, and the Case manager Danelle are terrible people who don't care about the patients or their families! They picked a facility to send my family member to without consulting my mom and lied about sending referrals to the area's the family requested. They bullied my 70 year old mother and threatened her, that if she didn't transfer my dad into the facility of their choice, she would have to pay out of pocket for everything!! They succeeded in forcing my dad into a facility 5 1/2 hours away from our home, against our families wishes and I am filing a complaint with medi-care over this ABUSE of their position. These horrible people do not care about the best interest of the patient or their families!! I can only pray they are stopped from doing this to other patients and families. May they reap what they sew. SHAMEFUL AND DEVOID OF CONSCIENCE AND MORALS.
