The 38 Best Restaurants in Markham, Ontario | Eater

"Providential 9 nails higher-end Cantonese-style dim sum, impeccably crafting standards and plating them as feasts for the eyes (and IG posts). Diners come for the signature red rice rolls filled with crispy shrimp, but they stay for an array of items that’ll make your head spin like a Lazy Susan — crispy cuttlefish, deep-fried pumpkin and okra in egg yolk, and spareribs with taro and olive, to name a few. Sweet selections like the unreal Cantonese sponge cake and sesame balls in salty egg yolk only add to the experience. [$$ - $$$]" - Faiyaz Kara

One of my girlfriends invited me for lunch. From the outside, I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but the inside was surprisingly nice — beautifully decorated with a classic oriental vibe. We ordered a good amount of food for eight people. One of my personal favorites was the crispy shrimp eggroll. I usually love shrimp dim sum, but I wasn’t a big fan of it at this location — I’ve had better elsewhere. The service was actually pretty good, especially for a dim sum place. I’ve had servers slam dishes down at other spots before, but that wasn’t the case here. Everyone was polite and attentive. The washroom was clean, and I enjoyed the tea. With the cash discount, the value was great for what we had.

Decent dim sum at average price. Their baby cuttlefish with curry sauce were delish and not too spicy... definitely not baby though - 4 pieces of gigantic cuttlefish at $9. The mango glutinous flour dumplings were a hit with my family, but everything else was alright. Brown Sugar sponge cake was too fluffy - the cake fell apart easily whenever I tried to grab a piece. The restaurant fills up fast, and parking is limited. We were lucky to secure a table at 11am.

Went for lunch on a Saturday — the food was quite good overall. However, the servicing of food felt a bit delayed. We added a sesame ball partway through the meal, but it turned out to be the first dish that came out. Eventually, most of the dishes arrived after a bit of a wait. Unfortunately, the shrimp dumplings didn’t come until I was already at the counter paying, so we had to cancel them. That said, I did enjoy the food. The beef tendon was especially good, and the fish maw is something you don’t often see at other dim sum places and worth to try. The waitress recommends their steamed scallops but it was not as good as it was described. The sesame ball seemed tasty but was like a deep-fried black sesame tangyuan, it was too sweet for my taste. The environment was quite nice — clean and well-decorated.

Google
This dim sum place really disappointed me. They charge high price but the food didn't taste good, most dishes were either no taste or very salty. It wasn't not worth the money. And, there were only limited food items in the menu. We spent quite some time to find out what to order but after we figured out the dishes we wanted, the captain said they didn't have those items. Furthermore, I don't understand why did they add oatmeal to the dim sum, a very odd combination yet making the food tasted funny. I will not go again.

Google
Providential 9 has a clean and tidy environment with a nice traditional Chinese decor. The food was average—not particularly impressive, but decent overall. The staff were noticeably more friendly and welcoming compared to other dim sum places.

Google
The overall food quality is well above par while the service is also attentive. I like it being not too big, just good size for friends' dinner gatherings. The atmosphere is great!

We came here in the morning for dim sum on a weekday. The interior design is phenomenal. The dim sum is delicious. The interior design is dedicated to a lot of expensive investments such as Chinese traditional chairs, different kinds of walls: stoneware, wooden, die-cut pattern and the printed one with backlighting. For the washroom area, each individual of them is using different vanities with a marble top. Some of them are with the vessel sink.

Yelp
Food was delicious, portions were huge. The space was nicely decorated. The service was impeccable. Alas, the prices were a bit on the high side. Driving up to the restaurant, the exterior of the building made me question if I had the right place. There was no proper signage. And it looked as if it was closed. Once I stepped through the door, I was surprised by how nicely decorated the space was. The dishes offered were more unique than other. Everything was salted just right. It was delicious.

Yelp
Clean tasting dim sum and stir fry noodles. The highlight was the crispy rice shrimp roll and stir fried beef noodles. The shrimp roll was red and had great crispy and soft textures. The beef noodles had a good wok hei. You can skip on the squid tentacles. The durian puff was not too sweet.

Yelp
Visited during dim sum time. There was a line to queue as usual. When we called ahead, the waiter said there was no queue, you can just walk in. That unfortunately wasn't correct and we ended waiting 45 minutes for a table. After receiving a table, the food arrived fairly promptly. The seating arrangement was very comfortable and spacious. The food looked fairly good and taste good. Will visit in the future and arrive earlier to avoid the queue.

Yelp
Extreme Caution! Diner beware, a celebratory dinner including Peking duck and other items, unfortunately ended with a disappointing and very concerning experience. The pancakes that were served with our Peking duck were covered in mold! All diners including three small children ( 3 to seven years old) ate one serving before we realized that the remaining pancakes in the dish were completely covered in mold. When raised with the servers and management, the response was concerning as they seemed to brush it off and did not understand the severity of the health concern that we noted with a response to give them a call if the children get sick. Needless to say, we will be staying far away and reporting to the health authorities. Diners beware :(

Yelp
The restaurant is tidy and spacious. Comfortable seating. Decent service. People said their Peking duck is great but so so for me. The warping pancake was very good, thin and soft with chewy texture. But the roasted duck skin is soft, it should be a crisp skin and the duck is too meaty, well, the duck taste was ok. The steamed fish was a bit over cooked. Claypot chicken is ok but nothing special. Overall food taste ok, and just ok. lol

Yelp
I'll give 0 start if I can. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE My friend and I were seated around 11:40am. Around 12:30, a server came by and asked if we were done and ready to pay because there were other customers waiting with reservations. Excuse me? Our table still had half the food left -- clearly visible. We politely said we were still ordering more. At around 12:40, another server came to check if all our dishes had arrived. We said yes, again politely, and she left. Then at 12:53 (yes, I checked the time because it was getting ridiculous), a woman who seemed like a manager came over with a condescending attitude and told us we had to pay because there were many people waiting and the next reservation had already arrived. We replied that we had only been eating for about an hour. She insisted, saying "this is how weekends are." We responded politely but firmly -- we understand weekends can be busy, but being rushed three times within an hour is excessive. Her attitude remained dismissive, saying we could "stay for a bit more if you want." Excuse me? She must've realized we were annoyed -- maybe surprised that two women actually pushed back -- and returned again asking if we were unhappy. She said we could sit a little longer but had to leave within 90 minutes anyway (still with a very indifferent tone). By then, the mood was completely ruined. We just said, forget it, we'll pay and leave. Here's my question: where exactly is it written that dining time is limited to 90 minutes? Even at all-you-can-eat places, people usually get two hours. We were only there for just over an hour and you were rushing us multiple times. Do you think because we don't speak Cantonese, or because we're two young women, that we're easy to push around? We get that it's the weekend and restaurants are busy -- we're reasonable customers and always leave promptly if we're done -- but at least let us finish our meal in peace. To top it off, we were charged mandatory gratuity. I didn't want to argue -- it's not a big amount and I get that the other staff are working hard. But after what we experienced, it just left a really bad taste. For two people, six or seven dishes, the bill came out to $102. Let's just focus on facts: with this level of service, pricing, forced gratuity, and the rushed dining experience, the value is extremely low. Maybe instead of focusing on pushing customers out, the restaurant should invest in improving food and service quality. As someone from China who has enjoyed dim sum at many great restaurants both in China and in Toronto, I can confidently say this is one of the worst experiences I've had. I absolutely do not recommend this place.

Yelp
With a dear friend visiting from Vancouver for the first time since the start of the pandemic, our foodie adventures resumed, exploring restaurants around Toronto, with good food! Our first stop was for dim sum at Providential 9 in Markham. The decor was nice, resembling an old Chinese courtyard. They even had real tablecloths on the tables, not the cheap plastic sheets. With a few stops planned for our day, we ordered only four dishes. The portions were bigger than what we're used to from other places. - Pork Short Ribs, Chinese Yam, Black Bean Sauce - Bean Curd Roll with Vegetables - Crispy Turnip, Taro Cake, Oat Bran - Beef Tendon The flavours were good and the prices were very reasonable, with an early bird discount. I'd come back to try more dishes.

Yelp
Came here Tuesday night with friends and it's half full. Inside is newly renovated with big sitting area. We ordered: 1. Chicken stew-5/5 2. Eggplant and Tiger shrimp stew -4/5 3. 椒丝通菜- 3/4 4. 白果水鸭汤- 5/5 The service is very attentive and prompt. And interior decorations are nicely designed. Price wise, It's towards a bit pricy end compared to other Cantonese restaurants. I heard that they serve good dim sum as well, will come back and try.

Yelp
This is a classy dim sum place with a top notch reputation but also with quite an unassuming and modest exterior and some cryptic signage to boot.   After a puzzled double-take though, we entered to enjoy not only a classy dim sum brunch but one with a lot of exotic, creative, and tasty dishes.  Service was prompt, professional, and attentive.   We had the following dishes.  All were excellently prepared and as mentioned many were exotic and uncommon. Foie gras siu mai  King prawn har gow Abalone with minced meat tart Beef tendon in satay sauce Scallop/prawn dumplings Mushroom and pea leaf dumplings Tofu skin rolls Rice rolls with mixed mushrooms  Pumpkin and Chinese yam porridge Baked durian pastries  Sesame balls with salty egg yolk There was also a $15 CD charge for our 2 pots of different teas.  Overall, a very enjoyable and delicious dim sum outing and probably the most exotic one in our dim sum experience.  The value was also amazing for the menu with the total pre-tip bill being a relatively modest $118.53 CD or  $87.80 USD.  A tip-top thumbs up and highly recommended!

Yelp
We went here for some dimsum before hitting Jokers club. Unfortunately, they didn't have dimsum and it was over at 3pm. We had to order a LA carte. We've ordered the sweet and sour pork with pineapples and the crispy fried vermicelli with tender beef slices and bitter melon in black bean sauce. My date enjoyed it and I was so nervous because it was his first time in a Chinese restaurant like this. We enjoyed the food and the chili sauce. Can't wait to come back for their dimsum! Happy eating fellow yelpers.

Yelp
I don't have a picture for this review Sorry But I had a regular dim sum 1. Har Gow 2. Sui Mui They were very good but nothing to rave over I just had it for take out But Upon entering, I did notice the fabulous renovations and fantastic decor of this dim sum place. It looked very high end, luxuriously decorated. Right away, I knew I would return for dine in with my family. I will keep all you Yelpers updated for when I come back Hopefully they can increase my rating to 5 stars! SYOY everybody.

Yelp
A bit pricy for dimsum, I think we spent about $60 for two people but it is definitely fancier than typical dimsum restaurants in NY. The decor was nice, I like how they have bamboo curtains between tables for privacy. My fav dish was the curry cuttlefish because we can't find that in NY

Yelp
Food was fantastic here. Celebrated a birthday and we were in the party room. Lots of dim sum option .

Yelp
Stylish & elegant interior. Many groups of people lined up for tables during busy Saturday lunchtime. We did not book but were offered a table (for 3) in 10 mins. Had - Har Gow - Shrimp spring rolls - Crispy red rice rolls with shrimps - Steamed scallop on a half shell - Crispy beef short ribs - Crispy Squid legs - Sticky rice in lotus leaf - Crispy fried meat dumplings - Mushroom & snow pea dumplings - Sticky rice and vermicelli stair fry - Deep-fried chicken knee All dishes were refined - had the very right amount of seasonings, never too strong never too sweet never too salty, just the right amount, extracting the best of each ingredient. I loved their red rice rolls. Plump shrimp and crispy vegetables (deep-fried) were wrapped in the sticky/chewy rice rolls - enjoyed the new texture! Sticky rice noodles embracing deep-fried crispy vegetable & donuts and plumpy shrimp. Enjoyable. Steamed scallop - the grass noodle on top soaked up the juice from the scallop, eating it with a plump, perfectly cooked meaty scallop & eggs and fried minced garlic - Yum!!!!! I will come back again :)

Yelp
After listening to the news of a potential nuclear strike at the war zone, the first thing came into my mind is to have Dim Sum with my family before it is too late. Since I have bad experiences with discount morning Dim Sum and Hong Kong style café Dim Sum restaurants, I decided to try something a bit fancier. The first thing attracted me at the Providential 9 restaurant is their Jiangnan scenery style décor. This elevates the whole dim sum tea time experience to the next level. My personal favourites of all the dim sums we ordered are the caviar and foie gras Siu Mai, hock pork with ginger in sweet rice vinegar, baked BBQ pork bun, crispy taro w/ mushroom dumpling, and Cantonese sponge cake. I also ordered some of their "bird's nest" feature dim sum such as the seafood and bird's nest dumpling in soup and fresh bird's nest milk tart. Some of their dim sums are over steamed, like the Chiu Chow style dumpling (just skip this one) and traditional salted egg yolk layered cake (very soggy). The Seafood and bird's nest dumpling in soup is a bit salty, as I believe the chef uses the Cantonese style "high soup" consommé that is super concentrated. Overall, my family and I really enjoyed this Jiangnan scenery style décor place. Plus, the dim sums are great as well. Also, the manager is very friendly and helpful. Friendly advice, this dim sum restaurant is packed during lunch hour. Make sure you book a table in advance and choose an early timeslot (I booked 10 AM on a Saturday morning).

Yelp
At first glance, this place didn't look like much from the outside and it's could be very easy to miss. The interior is decorated well and resembles a traditional courtyard back in the dynasty days in China. The furnishing and thoughtful touches also go very well with the whole place. I'm honestly more impressed by the decor and design than the food. The food is pricier than some other dim sum restaurants we normally go to because they try to dress up the food with touches of delicacies and luxury items, such as the fois gras caviar siu mai and fish maw congee. The siu mai were big but tasted dry and bland in taste. I prefer the har kow more. The fish maw congee didn't have much taste at all and almost resembled plain congee. They probably used a very small amount of fish maw in it. Such a scam. I would have much preferred plain congee if I knew that was what it would taste like. The rice noodle rolls (腸粉), which I didn't get pictures of, were one of the better dishes. I also liked the molten custard salted egg buns (流沙包). Service is very slow and sometimes you have to flag down a waitress because they don't stop by to check on you often. That is very typical with chinese restaurants though, so I wasn't surprised. Overall, it was decent at best but I'm not sure we will be back for dim sum here.

Yelp
Came here for dinner. Not a big place and may not be easy to find the place on dark rainy night. Our party was seated in a private room. Staffs are attentive. Food are delicious. Big lobster dish big fish veggie good too. When finished dinner place enpty

Yelp
Came here for dim sum. Came around 11:20am on a Saturday with 25 tables ahead of us. You can go in and put your name on the waitlist on the tablet and they'll text when a table is ready for you. This place is super busy with huge lines and we knew it so we ran some errands first. It took 2 hours before our table was ready. Some unique dishes on the menu like foie gras siu mai but honestly taste wise it was only okay. Same with their truffled beef rice rolls. Their fried dishes seemed more solid! We really liked their deep fried turnip and taro cubes (with oats on top...) and their shrimp spring rolls were really nicely done. Definitely not worth waiting a long time in line for, but would be decent without a line! Prices are on the higher end for sure as well. Lovely interior and aethetics though. Spacious with individual washrooms.

Aaron L.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning for an early dim sum lunch. It wasn't too busy and we were seated relatively quickly. They have an iPad waitlist system so you can always enter your name and phone number and come back when your table is ready. The inside is nicely decorated, reminiscent of a Chinese courtyard, and tables are very spaced apart. This gives a very relaxed ambiance compared to the loud and chaotic nature of other dim sum spots. Service was relatively friendly and attentive for a Chinese restaurant. Pricing is on the higher end, and they have a lot of interesting takes on dim sum items, such as the black caviar and foie gras siu mai. The dim sum itself was so-so, a lot of the steamed dishes were made in advance, so it wasn't fresh. Portions were decent. All in all worth checking out if you're looking for a unique, less noisy dim sum experience.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
I don't have high expectations for dimsum restaurants unfortunately in terms of service (love eating dimsum though) and I knew it was too good to be true when Providential 9 takes reservation. Even after reading previous reviews, it's sadly true - there's additional wait even after your reserved time. We booked for 12pm and sat down closer to 1pm. The restaurant seems to focus on accommodating walk-ins more. Other than that, the restaurant is aesthetically pleasing but on the smaller side compared to surrounding dimsum places. Their menu options are limited, on a 8x11 paper size for reference. Everything came out hot and in a timely manner. Definitely order the sesame ball with salted egg yolk filling!

Yelp
Ate here with friends tonight and it was really delicious. Authentic Chinese food. It was nice for a change but I must admit it helped to go with Chinese friends who knew what to order

Yelp
Haven't been here for 3 years since Covid started. The environment was still elegant with the ancient Chinese decorations. I just loved it. The waitress approached my table and introduced the special dishes for the night. I just picked one of the promotional items, steamed scallops with garlic and vermicelli, green vegetables and steamed chicken. The scallops were big. It tasted ok, nothing outstanding.l loved this dish the most. The other two dishes were ok. I prefer having dim sum at this place instead.
google avatar

Wing C.

Yelp
My extended cousins recommended this place for dim sum. Overall - I thought the dim sum were just okay. Everything was a bit salty. Service was almost non existent but I guess that's the norm with the ongoing pandemic.
google avatar

Maggie Y.

Yelp
Beautiful decor. Just like a classic ancient Chinese imperial garden. Great food! Be prepared to wait in line for a table during the weekends! They had lobster on special for $22.60/lbs so splurged on lobster with glass vermicelli. Dim sum price starting at $4.60
google avatar

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
Absolutely loved dining here for dim sum multiple times during my visit to Toronto. The interior is lovely and the wait staff are excellent. All the dishes are top notch, and are made elegantly with excellent flavor, and often with an extra flair based on the traditional dim sum dishes. Hands down my favorite dim sum experience thus far even compared to places I've been to in Asia!! (but keep in mind I was born and raised in the US...). Anyways...I loved and already looking forward to coming back!
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Food and indoor ambience are decent but the service is very poor. We sent our order in at noon and each dim sum came one at a time so slowly that we'd finish the dish and be waiting 10 minutes for the next one...for nearly TWO HOURS. This is not how dim sum is supposed to be enjoyed, like some omakase dish-by-dish meal. When we asked the hosts and servers, they brushed us off with a lame excuse that dim sum takes time to steam. Needless to say how silly this excuse is. I'd rather they be frank with the customer and tell them the situation so that we can make an informed decision about our own timing. We waited so long for the bill as well so we went inside to pay. Food wise, the dim sum is not bad but hello, you're in Markham. There are plenty of dim sum restaurants with better service and better food.
google avatar

Cin C.

Yelp
I came for dim sum and was so pleasantly surprised. Definitely a more upscale experience, as each dish had a unique twist or presentation. I appreciated the fact that the dishes were never too salty or oily. We even got a second dish of our favorites. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it is meant to be a treat and to gather with family over tea. I prefer their decor to other Chinese restaurants as they made it look and feel like an old family house. The main dining area is in the middle, so you are sitting in the courtyard having tea surrounded by bamboo curtains and tiled roofs. Very nostalgic.

Jahleel C.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my father in-law and my baby. He said this place was really good and a new spot for our dim sum outings (we go to many different dim sum restaurants quite often, perks of marrying into a Chinese family =D) There are no lights to turn into the restaurant, but it's right after you pass Hwy 7 if you're going south on Woodbine. There isn't much parking too especially if you come during busy hours (during good pricing dim sum hours before 11am). They also have warning signs that say to not park on the CAA side. Inside it looks quite clean and "fancy". I never went into their washrooms so not sure how they are. Price was a little below $4 per dish of sizes S, M, or L (so always get L of course) before 11am. The food comes out pretty fast and the waiters are all attentive. The food was really good in my opinion. There was this "seafood rice noodle roll red special" that was my favourite. I couldn't take a picture of it as it was immediately devoured. The rice noodle wrap is red, a shrimp inside each of the pieces and some crunchiness inside. Get it if you come here for dim sum. It's a must eat! The only reason it's getting a 4 star is because of parking. Otherwise, overall I had a great experience and would definitely come back here again for dim sum.

Michael C.

Yelp
The congee, beef noodle with veges, and choi sum vegetable were tasteless. The sui ma and the beef steamed rice roll had some really rare taste. Services were good and foods came not late. Prices are higher than most other comparable Chinese restaurants. There is a 2.4% surcharge fee on the full amount of the bill for using a credit card for payment. Cash and debit card carry no surcharge. Not Worth it.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
My first time here for dim sum and it is quite a lowkey spot. It is large and spacious but wait times can still be long. The food is decent but service is slow and could use a bit of improvement. Parking shouldn't be a problem as there are some spots closer to the front but more at the back.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
My current favorite dim sum place. High quality, premium and specialty items. The almond bun is to die for - imagine a bun with almond dessert gushing out when you bite into it. They have so many unique items that are one of a kind. I like their reservation queue as well - you call in advance and you will get a text to confirm your reservation. I even got a call to ensure i was seated! Highly recommend
google avatar

Anni D.

Yelp
I have yet to have bad dim sum in Markham and providential 9 is no exception. Providential 9 serves quality dim sum with a "bougie" flair. The caviar foie gras siu mai was a unique combination that I did not love but glad I got to try. The restaurant decor is a lot fancier than neighbouring restaurant. This is a good dim sum spot if you're looking to impress!

Yelp
Mixed feelings about this restaurant. My overall experience was also probably marred by the fact I went at a bad time - peak lunch hour and on a holiday. We made reservations one day before, but we still had a 30 minute wait because it was just so packed. Those without reservations will need to take a number, but can be waiting upwards to over an hour. Some of the waitresses later told us they did not realize today was a holiday since not everyone gets the day off (Remembrance Day) so they were definitely very flustered and somewhat disorganized in handling the large queue of people waiting. Decor was nice and classy inside. Quite a renovation from the previous vegetarian restaurant! Parking is an absolute nightmare. Not enough parking spots for the capacity of customers the restaurant can hold. Some cars made their own illegal parking spot by parking wherever they pleased which added to the already chaotic parking situation. As for the food it's a little bit of a hit or miss: 1. Their interpretation of lo mai gai is a little weird. Two sheets of egg omelette sandwiching the glutinous rice. Interesting. I'll still eat it though. 2. Siu mai was a little dense. The meat inside seemed like the same texture and taste as "pork meat balls", the type you use for hotpot and not the juicy pork you find in siu mai's at other restaurants. 3. Milk white egg tart was pretty good! Nice flaky, crisp layers. A little bit pricey and it comes in a set of two (instead of 3/4 at other dim sum places) 4. Char Siu pastry was decently sized and delicious. Again, nice flaky layers. 5. Beef balls was okay.

Yelp
The dim sum at P9 is pricey but elegant. The service, especially when it's not really busy, is quite nice. They try to ask you how things are, pour your tea for you, help make recommendations, etc. The best dim sum items here IMO are the mango mochi, steamed beef balls, and the spring rolls. You can't go wrong with anything fried here I think. The reason why the sweet & sour pork here is so good is because they strike a good balance in the amount of sauce, and the outer crispy layer is wafer-esque while retaining good juiciness on the inside. This probably means they fry to order and don't skip steps. We've also come for dinner service, which was somewhat busy. I already mentioned the best item, but the worst was a steamed fish that took forever to arrive. That said, they were very apologetic and tried their best to make things right. I would probably stick to their dim sum for now, and try their dinner again some other time once they've had a bit more time to iron out their dinner service timing (it's hard... hasn't been too long since the situation was relaxed enough for restaurants to be fully packed, and dim sum places have a LOT of seats).

Yelp
I discovered this dim sum restaurant during COVID and it has become a go to for takeout dim sum. The food is of high quality and there is a good variety of options. My favourite is the fried squid tentacles which are at a premium price but in my opinion are done better than most places. They have their own website for ordering and the food comes nicely packaged in clear plastic containers that can be re-used. I have tried most things on the menu and have yet to find something I didn't like. My only complaint is that the food is pretty pricey - I would feel better paying those prices dining in but it's quite expensive for take-out dim sum.

Yelp
Probably the best dim sum I have had in a long time! There's a good and a bad side to this. I stopped in for lunch and had a few dishes. The good side: the food quality is excellent. Sparibs and black bean sauce, shrimp dumplings, bean curd sheet rolls with vegetables, and a mixed meat dumpling that was deep fried. The Har Gow was especially memorable. A big handful of shrimp stuffed inside an excellent wrapper that didn't fall apart when you picked it up with chopsticks. The spareribs were super tender and meaty with incredible flavor. Really, there wasn't any part of this meal that I didn't like. Except for one thing. The bad side: the menu is way too small! There were only about 12 items on the dim sum side, so eating alone does not give you enough of a representation of all of their offerings. But bring a group of 4 to 6 people, and you run out of things to order to get the variety that you really can enjoy with a larger group. The good outweighs the bad, so go and check this place out! I'll keep going until I get tired of eating the same things over and over. Hopefully they'll add to the menu.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favourite places for dim sum but they have unfortunately changed the menu recently. All the dishes that I liked are now gone :(, including the crispy seafood rice roll, XO sauce rice roll and the mango mochi. To make matters worse, we visited for dinner recently and the service was very subpar. A number of dishes were sold out so we had to order multiple times as each time we ordered we were later told that a dish was sold out. Then when the food finally came, we received only one dish and had to remind the servers after an hour before the other dishes starting arriving. When we paid the bill, the server told us to wait for dessert but again, it didn't come after almost 10 minutes so we ended up leaving without it. Food tasted fine but was on the oily side - especially the beef with gai lan (see photo). Very disappointed.

Yelp
Came for Sunday dim sum with friends and it was great. On the outside it doesn't look like much. The inside is very cute. Love the decor and interior. Service was great. The staff were friendly. A bit expensive but I guess that's similar to most dim sum places in Markham. It's worth coming back again next time to gorge again.

Yelp
Great dim sum. The food quality is high and the service is good. Their spin is that the food is cooked with less salt, oil, etc. but still tasty and they delivered on this! We had our usual dim sum staples like chicken feet, cha siu bao, long rice noodle with bbq pork, veggie dumplings, and rice wrapped in lotus leaf. They were all great! The interior is interesting in that they went for a 'old school' look with ancient style roofs inside the dining room. Unisex bathroom stalls with sinks in each individual room is a plus.

Yelp
Went to Providential 9 on a suggestion from a foodie friend and had a very good meal for a big party group (our first large group meal out in 1.5 years!). Their website doesn't show the full dinner menu yet, so I included it in the photos. Some of their highlight dishes were: Char Siu BBQ pork which tasted better than the one I had many years ago at the old John's BBQ on Hwy 7. Deep fried spare ribs w/ preserved olive sauce was super juicy on the inside with a lovely sweet crust. Lobster with Maggie sauce was also done perfectly (rivaling O'Mei's) and we all couldn't stop scraping off all the flavorful crust that was on the outside of the shells. Peking duck was ok, but the wrappers were a bit too thick for my liking. Other dishes were solid, and the only dish that was a bit lacking was the fish maw soup.

Yelp
Absolutely ridiculous. My aunt ordered 2-3 days in advanced to have me pickup the order at 1115am for Saturday, I didn't get our order til 1pm. Why? Because they didn't start preparing the food until I arrived at the restaurant at 1115am. It was absolutely chaotic. The cashier was also answering the phones taking in new orders, while double checking the order before handing to customers. I kept asking her to check the status of my order, yet I got ignored every single attempt.

Yelp
Like their self service waitlist system at the entrance. Busy Sunday. We waited for about 15 min even though we arrived at 2:30 pm. We thought the food was good. Will come back.

Yelp
It's really a comfort food when you are home sick! Has been a long time without Yum Cha, finally can try some dim sum in Toronto. It's quite delicious and it's better to go with friends and family so you can try more dishes. Price and service are fair. But you have to wait for a long time to be seated. So many people are waiting outside

Yelp
We came here for dim sum today. This space was previously the vegetarian restaurant. I had no idea it was even open because the signage is black and the entrance isn't really visible from the roadside. They have renovated and it is reminiscent of a Chinese courtyard, all full of wooden pagoda accents and wooden furniture. The dim Sum menu is in a small booklet form It is annoying flipping through the pages and not seeing everything on one sheet. There is not a huge variety of dim sum. The typing is a bit small and the lighting is dim. (Other patrons couldn't see the menu too) Our food came out in a timely manner. Only thing that took a while was the sui Mai. Had to flag servers down for sauces and water refills. The food was decent and well seasoned. There is early bird special pricing before 11am and tea charge is $2 per person.

Yelp
The first time came here was on a weekend after reservation, the reception area was super crowded and no one cares about us. We left right away and decided to come during this week day noon. I stood beside the reception desk where I can see lots waitress were walk around inside and one lady standing in front of the bar computer busy typing stuff. The tables were not full. After about 5 mins, finally a lady approached and asked me for how many ppl..,. We had waited about 30 mins for all the food to come and it was not that busy. The taste of the food is average and light. Love the mango dessert must try. 2 are for this dessert. They can be much better with improved service.

Yelp
I like this place, the interior looks like it will serve Northern Chinese food instead of dim sum. The menu you got is fancy, unlike the big piece of paper that you'll always get in other dim sum place. Prolly because they don't have that big of a variety of dim sum to serve hence putting them in a little book will be a better presentation. The dim sum in general were not bad, my favorite is their baked almond bun, those almond juice was flowing out and sweet, I would go back just for that! The mango mochi was so-so, there were too many cream inside and not enough mango, and the skin wasn't too thick tho. My least favourite is the hock pork with ginger in sweet rice vinegar, it's not cheap but the portion is so tiny, and their ginger looks like remaining ingredients from other dishes! Otherwise, their dim sum are interesting, there's a little bit of twist here and there on many traditional dim sum that you may see elsewhere, be it presentation, ingredients used or flavour. That is why I give a 5 stars, because I appreciate restaurants that are willing to put the effort into making changes and improvements. Last but not least, they take credit card after 11am, very different from many other places! Going back for sure!

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere and food! I was able to walk right in on a weekday morning. Great service!

Yelp
I don't usually post reviews but I had to post my appalling experience at this shameful establishment. 1 hour sh*t service no food, eventually had 1 soup dish served and we had to serve ourselves. Absolutely the worst place I've been to, clearly understaffed, when asked where our food was they waved us off not even looking in our direction. Horrible experience go elsewhere

Yelp
This place is impressive!! Nice interior design which is very different than the normal dim sum restaurant. The dim sum seem to be freshly made and it come with decent portion. They also have some selection that you normally do not see it in other places. It also be a great venue if you considered to have a traditional Chinese elements involved to your wedding. I would come back again for dim sum for sure. I really enjoy the overall experience.
