The 16 Best Restaurants to Visit on a Colorado Mountain Road Trip - Eater Denver

"The last stop before Telluride, Ridgway is a surprising little food destination all its own. Among the many options in this walkable town is Provisions Cafe, located in an 1894 barbershop. Amie Minnick, a longtime Telluride private chef to the stars, now runs this unassuming restaurant. She serves brunch Wednesdays to Sundays and dinner Thursdays to Saturdays. Start with local coffee and breakfast hash." - Josie Sexton, Eater Staff

Google
What a great breakfast spot for an elevated dining experience. I really enjoyed my poached egg on arugula salad and the English muffin was delicious. The chef really cooks with love here. The others in my party also enjoyed their breakfasts and the smoked Applewood bacon was tasty. The latte also hit the spot this morning after spending a cold morning taking pictures.

Went for a quick brunch on a Wednesday and the place was so busy. We got seated at the bar right away and order some chai lattes and some dishes. Also, they have the best waffle in town!

My wife and I stayed two nights in Ridgway and had a very enjoyable, satisfying dinner at Provisions. My wife had the filet mignon and I had the rainbow trout. I've never had trout this good before and I complimented the chef as he walked by. It was pan seared in butter and the result was crispy, tender, moist and soooo good. Drinks are very reasonably priced. Food was prepared and served quickly even though the place was filling up. The layout is small with only about 10 tables and is a combination bar-restaurant. The theme works. Service was equally great. Two thumbs up for this tucked-away gem.

We Loved the food here! Stopped in three times over a four day stay. Cookies, omelettes, corned beef hash, and breakfast sandwiches were to die for!

Google
Rarely select 5 stars and rarely review based on one visit. Exceptions on both for Provisions. Stopped by for a breakfast sandwiches. The house made sourdough English Muffin, the fluffy scrambled eggs, the thick cut bacon, the argulua and dressing was over the top. By far the best breakfast we have ever had. Did I mention they are huge. Do not skip the coffee. 👍👍

Google
Great little European style café. Foodie options provide a brunch or breakfast that is elevated beyond Kates across the street. Highly recommended in Ouray/ Ridgway area.

I have been to Provisions before several times and it was exceptional. This time was a bit of a surprise. A lot of the staff was brand new. Service was good but, not great. But, the biggest disappointment was food temperature. It was cold. I saw several plates going back for re-heating. If they can get their act together, this could be the best restaurant in town. It’s going to be a minute until they win me back however.

Google
What a yummy place for brunch! Such a cute little cafe serving the best breakfast and brunch items. No waiting in lines! We ate outside and it was lovely and the food was delicious and served quickly and with a smile. Try the mimosas. They are wonderful as well! We will be back on our next trip through.

Yelp
Provisions at the Barber Shop is outstanding even though we encountered a little snafu. Been wanting to come here for quite some time, so we met up with a dear friend of ours for a special night out. First off, we ordered some wine and the Warm Pecan Crusted Goat Cheese app...which was super yummy! For dinner we ordered two Argentinian Style Flank Steaks and the Rainbow Trout...plus a couple of Side Simple Salads. The appetizer and wine came out right away as did the side salads, but as time went by we noticed people that arrived after us were being served dinner. We finally flagged down our waitress to inquire about our order. She was super kind and apologized for the delay. Back to that snafu I mentioned earlier...it would appear that the kitchen may not have received our dinner order...or something like that. Anyway, hangry's not a good look, so after waiting all that time...maybe a little over an hour and a half...we finally got our food! It was so good that we quickly devoured it! Undoubtedly we were starving by the time we were finally served, but nonetheless our meals were true perfection! Most importantly to note, hence the 5-Stars...concessions were made (which we so appreciated) to make-up for the unlikely mishap. Seriously, many restaurants won't even bother or take any responsibility. We know times have been hard and continue to be hard...especially for small businesses. This just proves that Provisions has a moral compass and is an upstanding and professional restaurant...that serves some pretty incredible food to boot! Hats off to the Chef! Printed at the bottom of our receipt it said "Thanks, You Rock!" Thanks again and right back at ya!

Yelp
Warm olives were great, as was the sourdough bread. I did have to request more olive oil for the bread as there was not enough for that much bread. I had the wild mushroom ravioli, which was delicious.

Yelp
The Flying Dutchman was unbelievable. Among the best breakfasts in my life! Do not miss this place if you are anywhere within 20 miles (or more).

Kelly B.

Yelp
Killer breakfast, nice staff, friendly regulars. Add the waffle to your order; you won't regret it.

Yelp
The Beginning: We were greeted with a smile and a menu that boasts natural ingredients and amazing food combinations. We decided to sit inside. The ceiling fan cooled the place to a perfect temp. My wife & I are usually on opposite ends of the temperature spectrum, yet we were both very comfortable, even tho the temp outside was 81°. I noticed they even had Bullet Coffee! Unfortunately I brought my own, however now I know for tomorrow morning. They placed Cucumber-Lemon water on our table & we proceeded to order the Huevos Rancheros & Poached Eggs over Arubula.... The Middle: Well the food did NOT disappoint! My wife who does NOT eat any grains, told me about their 'House Made Sourdough English Muffin' we both made an exception and ordered it. It was worth the carbs! WOW!! The End: The food was delicious, the service was outstanding, the temperature was perfect, the music level was subtle, and the acoustics in the room overall allowed for great conversation and was not loud at all! I HIGHLY recommend this place!!

Yelp
Wow! Passing through and not expecting much. This place was amazing, from the service, to the friendly customers along side me at the counter and most importantly the food! Would love to have a spot like this in our hometown of Keystone!

Danell R.

Yelp
Holy cow! The food here is AMAZING! We have come for breakfast twice and both times the food has been absolutely fantastic. Cute little joint however the ambiance is topped by the quality of the food. Best mimosa ever. The waffle is the perfect combination of crispy, fluffy goodness. The homemade English muffin is stupid good. Veggies cooked to perfection, crispy prosciutto... who knew it was so good?! Best Mocha and hot chocolate to top it off. Will come back every time we visit the area.

Yelp
Top notch service with food that demands respect. I absolutely love this place and the smiling faces that make it a special experience every time. Well done team!!!
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
The food is delicious. I enjoyed the chef's creativity. The service is definitely lacking. I realize that everyone is short staffed. Perhaps the staff is just beaten down, and therefore don't have the energy/desire to be attentive. I was happy they had a patio and dogs were welcomed. It's my second time dining here. Both times the food was on point!
google avatar

Kelli C.

Yelp
What a great experience! The wait staff, environment and food was wonderful, definitely will be back. We had the gnocchi, sliders and raviolis and it was all excellent. This place is popular for good reasons so make sure to have reservations.
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
Stopped here to have coffee after breakfast across the street to... the service wasn't fantastic right off the bat. Got our coffees to go, they were just OK.
google avatar

Caroline M.

Yelp
This place is incredible. Top quality and lots of great service. If you find yourself in Ridgway as a destination or headed to either Ouray or Telluride, make a stop at this delightful spot! The place is SMALL, 5 tables inside and 5 out. You can see why reservations are a good idea! The atmosphere is intimate, and relaxed with a touch of elegance and the food and drink options were top notch. My husband enjoyed an old fashioned while we grazed on sour dough and goat cheese. I had the MUSHROOM RAVIOLI that honestly, could not have been better! My my husband had beef and roasted veggies that were also exceptional (but couldn't touch my ravioli!). All in all, a great dinner/experience. I highly recommend it! As I walked to the restroom, I almost yelled into the kitchen "Awesome food! Keep doing what you're doing!"

Cassidy L.

Yelp
Food is great enough to drive 2 hours for! Super impressed with this little place, headed back for another meal today.
google avatar

Yelp
This little place serves up some seriously good food. We came by one morning on our way to the Black Canyon from Ouray and fell in love with the cranberry ginger scone. We came back for dinner and were treated to very well prepared duck breasts and flank steak. It is definitely worth the drive here from Ouray. This place is popular so make sure you make a reservation.

Bobbie M.

Yelp
Service was terrible, yes it was busy, the inside and outside were both full, and only 2 young servers for the entire restaurant. Took us at least 20 minutes to get water and an hour+ to get our food which was decent other than the overcooked bacon. I ordered a macchiato, not good, so I then ordered a regular coffee which I had to ask for 3 times and finally brought it out, then was offered cream, which I never received but she was kind enough to make mimosas for the table next to ours, which wasn't hers to wait on. All in all a terrible experience and will probably never return. If zero stars were an option I would have done that!

Samuel M.

Yelp
very good great service besides being slow but amazing atmosphere and great breakfast recommend it
google avatar

Jibbs M.

Yelp
We ordered the Flying Dutchman and huevos rancheros. The hash on duck fat potatoes was exceptional, the apples added a perfect touch of sweetness.
google avatar

Sheila R.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor seating with careful attention to every detail. Delicious coffee with plenty of refills is always welcome on a cool mountain morning. Perfectly poached eggs atop super fresh arugula with earthy sourdough English muffin. Loved the duck fat potatoes. Will definitely be back for another brunch and dinner.
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Amazing breakfast. Recommend the Flying Dutchman, homemade pastrami hash?! Who's the evil genius who came up with this deliciousness? Great vibes, really tasty homemade bread. Must stop in Ridgway.
google avatar

Kimmy L.

Yelp
YAAAS incredible! I loved this hole in the wall in the cutest town. Delicious mushroom ravioli I would 100000% recommend. Creative flavors in everything even their island tea. What a treat! The ladies who worked here were hilarious and informative.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast, pet friendly outside table. Brown butter waffle very good, soft and melted in my mouth. Husband had biscuits and gravy, which were alittle too runny. Coffee was very good
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Stunningly well executed food. We ate their twice in 24 hours and were pleased both times. Excellent breads, good coffee, fresh produce. Good Bloody Mary and grapefruit mimosas. Well done. We will return again and again.

Yelp
Amazing! Wonderful service! Such nice ladies! We really enjoyed all of our food! The specials were awesome!

Yelp
Easily the best breakfast sandwich I've had. Great food and cool spot. Love this place.

Yelp
Seeing the fresh and locally sourced menu, we knew we would be coming in at least once during our relaxation weekend at the hot springs nearby. We slipped in just after opening and were given choice of any open table in the house. We took the smallest since we were a party of two, next time through, I'm pushing for the bigger tables with full chairs, since I nearly upended my backless stool twice. The seasonal brunch menu was every bit as exciting as we hoped, though it held near-zero selection if one isn't a fan of eggs. Since I'm only so-so about eggs, I went for a dish called the Flying Dutchman, which was basically corned beef and potatoes topped with julienned apple and a sunny-side-up egg. I found myself sighing with relief and gratitude for the obvious free-range quality of the egg since I was able to slice out the yolk and give it to Raz without any risk or fear of it accidentally rupturing and leaking all over the dish. If I actually liked yolky ooze, it would probably have been a very different and much more cohesive dish, but as it was, my egg white, corned beef, and quartered potatoes baked in duckfat were good quality individual tastes that each went well with the apple, but were otherwise unrelated. Raz's omelette with its mushrooms, cheese, and baby spinach was much more cohesive. The omelette was fluffy, buttery goodness, and made me wish I'd ordered it, despite my relative distrust of all things egg. Both our meals came with a delightfully fresh and obviously made-from-scratch English muffin, which was the perfect final touch that made the breakfasts stick to our ribs all the way through a morning of adventure.

Jaimee E.

Yelp
So happy to have a wonderful breakfast place on the western slope! The servers were very friendly, the atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and we got to enjoy relaxing at our table for brunch on Saturday morning. We both had the Flying Dutchman and it was DELICIOUS! The flavors all worked together perfectly and we really enjoyed their hot sauce! We had to take home leftovers because it was so filling.

Yelp
What a great spot, staff is so friendly, restaurant is clean and love the farm style decor. Black Bean Quinoa bowl is delicious!! My fav spot to eat.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
This is the most amazing place ever!! Came here for brunch and sat outside on a beautiful morning. Ordered oat milk lattes and Madison made them perfectly!!! We had the brown butter waffle and the breakfast sandwich. Literally the beat food I've ever put in my mouth!!!! Provisions...YOU ROCK!!
google avatar

Jackson M.

Yelp
So amazing- really high quality food and a perfect brunch menu. Delicious baked goods, really good coffee. Great staff. Definitely go here!

Lisa P.

Yelp
Amie is nothing short of amazing. Excellent wine selection, creative food, and affordable for what you are getting. People who complain don't understand how difficult it is to staff a restaurant in a small resort town with no affordable housing anymore.

Ramp F.

Yelp
Once great but terrible service. Victim mentality doesn't belong in hospitality. Complaining about lack of staff as excuse for cold coffee, cheap jellies and bad attitude. No thank you.

Kellie D.

Yelp
Every dinner I've had here has been exquisite. Went there again tonight and had incredible ceviche with homemade tortillas, a Paloma and a green salad with beets and goat cheese, it was delicious! The wait staff was excellent and friendly. The building is a hundred year old structure that has been renovated and maintains the original stone on the interior - it's very charming with a European flare. Love this place!
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
We enjoyed an outstanding lunch here a few days ago, selecting Provisions based on the interesting menu and ambience. The focaccia chicken sandwich, and the chicken caesar salad, were very flavorful as was the local coffee roast. Although we did not sample any of the baked goods, they looked amazing. Great spot, can't go wrong, they clearly know what they're doing with a limited menu and attention to detail on every plate.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
AMAZING!!! Great service and fantastic food! I had brunch here. Had the two poached eggs over arugula with a homemade English muffin. The dressing on the arugula was light and tangy and perfect! There were pieces of crispy prosciutto in the salad and shaved Parmesan. Eggs were cooked perfectly. The English muffin was the best English muffin I've ever tasted in the world and I was told they make them homemade there. I had the NOLA coffee which was absolutely fantastic! The coffee was smooth, the right temperature and the sweetened condensed milk and half and half added just the right creaminess and sweetness. I will be returning every time I'm back in town.
google avatar

Jeff Fisher F.

Yelp
Kamron was an excellent server and great guide through the menu. Such a great man. The food was really good and exceeded our expectations. Such a welcome stop in Ridgway! We'll be back for sure! Try the petite filet! Most excellent.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Waited in line for 15 minutes before I decided to leave. This place is stupid slow. Don't waste your time with these clowns.
google avatar

Alison G.

Yelp
Liked this place a lot better than Eatery 66. Flavors much better. And choices too. Seasonal veggies on my breakfast were delish - romanesco, asparagus, turnips and cherry tomatoes. The sourdough Stella muffin is made with a blend of flours (anytime I can get whole grain is a bonus). Love places that have delicious food that's healthy and nourishing.
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
Got recommended this place by a local. Tried the quinoa bowl for brunch this week (takeout during COVID) and it was delicious! I added an egg to mine and it was the best breakfast I've had in Ridgway this far.
google avatar

Julia W.

Yelp
Was excellent! Healthy and tasty food! Will have to return when in Ridgway again. The NOLA coffee was drool worthy, better than the mocha even. Brown butter waffle too was delish!
google avatar

Leah P.

Yelp
Amazing and truly fresh ingredients with gourmet dishes and fine wine. I had the baby kale/Brie salad and the butternut and coconut milk bisque. Spectacular flavors!!
google avatar

Elie Z.

Yelp
This place is incredibly cute, has incredibly thoughtful service, and makes really tasty breakfast. We swung through on a whim for my bday breakfast, and I could not have been happier--starting my day off with Pablo's coffee, a cranberry ginger scone, and the breakfast sandwich was THE move. Highly recommend.

Bob V.

Yelp
We had a memorable meal tonight. My husband had the Flank Steak and I had the special Wild Mushroom Ravioli. Both were delicious. Madison was wonderful. Perfect evening.
google avatar

Mackenzie J.

Yelp
Just went by this cute place to grab breakfast. We could see they were very busy with no seats so we figured we could buy a pastry out of the case and a coffee at the register and take it with us. After being ignored by the staff for a few minutes, the barista at the register turned to us and told us that it would be a 20 minute wait. No big deal we said, we just wanted to buy a coffee and head out, to which we were told rudely that a coffee would be a 20 minute wait and we could wait elsewhere. I can understand if you're a sit down restaurant, but why not sell us the premade goodies in the case and a coffee if you're set up to look like a coffee shop? Guess we will go to Montrose from now on. Didn't end up eating here. Looked good- probably would have tasted too salty judging on the staff.

Keeley J.

Yelp
This is our go to restaurant for special occasions. Lovely ambiance, reasonable prices for the quality and care placed into the menu choices along with creative and delicious craft cocktails. I highly recommend!
google avatar

Nikita S.

Yelp
The food here is amazing!!! No other way to put it, scallops to burgers it's all good! The location is really cool and nice looking inside. Honestly the service could use some work, hipsters that don't really care about your experience and ignore you instead of serve you. The organization and management could easily be at fault. Take your employees on a field trip to chick fil a so they can see what a smile and good service is like. I'm normally harsher when the service sucks, but the food!!! The food!!! Those cooks are saving your restaurant! The four stars really is because the food is that great! It's kinda weird though that they don't have draft beers, especially being in Colorado!
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
Perfectly cooked rack of lamb. Quick to sub out potatoes for green veggies as I eat low carb. Delicious old fashioned cocktail. Nice, quiet place with attention to detail. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Mark K.

Yelp
I wanted to really "LOVE" this place. The food, coffee I had was above average. I envy the owner, she seemed to have invested in this tough business and sustained it. My problem was the staff, the older lady was very sarcastic, snooty, her attitude was foul, her persona was strained. She is trying hard to be "nice". I believe this is a management issue weather the person in charge is projecting or this person simply is not happy with her job. When you open your door to people you have to value those people whom enter your door. What your customer feel is everything imo. My wife and I had negative interactions with the staff. You have a beautiful place please ask questions.

Yelp
July 2016 - We are staying in Ouray and asked a few locals the best place to have breakfast; the common reply was Kate's Place in Ridgway. Headed down there the next morning, put our name on the list as it was quite crowded - During the 15 minute wait we strolled across the street to Provisions saw the menu, decor, one vacant table and grabbed it. The breakfast was delicious; fresh everything - eggs, meat, bread and juice, etc.. We headed back there for dinner that evening around 7:30 and the experience was even better. Apparently there was an early rush so the restaurant was roughly half full (lucky us). I had the scallops, my wife had tacos and our 13-year old son had the Mediterranean Chicken. The scallops were amazing, my wife said the tacos were some of the best she has ever had (her mother is Mexican and she grew up in Southern California) and our son devoured the chicken (he is a picky eater to say the least). The deserts were wonderful, wine list was decent (we live in the Sonoma Wine Country) and the service was very pleasant. Had a chance to that the owner, Amy, who seemed very nice. Can't wait to go back again. Please open Provisions in Sonoma, CA.

Ash A.

Yelp
My husband and I ate breakfast here on our last day in town. The Flying Dutchman breakfast was out of this world. We couldn't stop talking about it on our drive home. We will definitely be going back the next time we're out that way. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Alexandra H.

Yelp
Who would've known one of the best restaurants we've been too could be found in Ridgeway, Colorado! Accidentally happened upon this place; we were on our way to another restaurant and the decor drew us in. They have a limited menu but everything on there is top notch! We know this because we first stopped in for lunch and it was so good that we went back for dinner that evening! Also, we will most likely forgo our complimentary breakfast at our BnB for a chance chance to dine here on our way out of town. Make sure to save room for their homemade sweet gelato dessert, I promise you won't regret it!
