The long wait is finally over - a legit spot is now open in Terrace Heights! We've been hearing about this place for a year, so it's been really nice to finally see it open and doing well. It's located in the old Jackson's East building right along the main road in Terrace Heights. It's very close to the medical school so it'll provide a great spot for lunches!
Upon entering you notice how much attention they paid to the details of building this place. The building is beautifully done. Good modern touches, a lot of exposed beams and Edison bulbs give it a really nice rustic sort of flair. It sets the ambience very nicely for dinner.
They serve brunch, lunch and dinner here. We came in a couple of friends for dinner and what we found was food it was good, but that was not overly adventurous, which was a bit surprising. The executive chef here has done a lot of Italian cooking and that seem to flows pretty well through most of the dishes. Things are very good, but many of the dishes are plays on ones that we have had before. Ultimately, it's a very safe way to open in an area that doesn't have a ton of new American type options.
I will say, that the appetizers here were where most of the fun was living, at least on the dinner menu. We had fried brussels sprouts which were absolutely EPIC - we eat a ton of places and these were probably the best brussels sprouts we've ever tasted! I think they were probably air fried as they trending towards baked. Either way, those were an absolute highlight and something we will be getting every time we come here. The charcuterie board was well presented and had a lot of different options on it. It would've been nice to of seen some nuts and some local honey on it. In addition,There were a number of soft cheeses on it and incorporating some from one of the creamery's in the area would be a cool way to highlight the local market as well.
Four of us shared the appetizers as well as a steak salad, the provisions burger and a Braised short rib pizza. The pizza was excellent, perfectly done crust and the asiago cream sauce was divine. The burger was solid, but the real winner on the plate were the large spiral cut fries. Unique in how they looked and excellent and how they taste. It's hard to find different ways to make a potato, but they definitely did it here and that's a big plus! The steak salad was good, but split between two people there was not a lot of meat, though I will say that the meet was done very nicely.
They have plenty of beer and wine options including tons of local stuff. They're doing a really nice job of highlighting the local beers in and that makes all of us happy!
We got out of there for around $50 with one entrée, splitting two appetizers and a couple drinks - not bad for the caliber of the place and the food.
We're excited to go back and try the brunch menu where there are a couple more exciting items and I anticipate that the menu will be ever-changing. This is the sort of place that has unlimited potential and we're very excited to see what they do. My challenge is that they try to have something on the menu that I can't get anywhere else - once they've got that going, this will be the go to spot in the area. As it stands, they're very good and it's only a little ways to be great!
