Ferry Plaza Farmers Market Favorite Proyecto Diaz Coffee Is Opening a Cafe in Oakland - Eater SF

"One of the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market’s go-to coffee vendors will open its first permanent location later this year. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Proyecto Diaz Coffee will open a coffee shop at 1416 20th Street in West Oakland by early November. The company, which has been a regular vendor at the Ferry Building on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for years, is known for sourcing beans from small farmers in Mexico and Latin America. It roasts its coffee at a facility in the East Bay, about a mile from where the company’s first brick-and-mortar cafe will open, the Chronicle reports. On the menu, expect drip coffee, espresso, and specialty drinks that will be familiar to the company’s fans including “cinnamon-infused cafe de olla latte and cold brew lemonade,” the Chronicle reports." - Lauren Saria

Amazing. Great coffee, great matcha, great freshly squeezed orange juice, heavenly tamales and other pastries….also kind staff despite how busy they are. Also, love how they wove in their family legacy and background into the decoration and overall vibes of the shop. This sounds so stupid and I swear I am a coffee-lover but OH MY GOD THE TAMALES. I can’t stop talking about the tamales. Also their iced horchata latte is divine. Anyways, if you are in Oakland this coffee shop should be on your list.

Google
They have the tastiest coffee and tamales. The service is always friendly, and the outdoor seating space is lovely, especially on a sunny day. I definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

Enjoyed the coffee, vibes and aesthetic! What a cool recent discovery. Look forward to returning to try the tamales and other delights.

Seek and ye shall find. And now, I have learned there are two places offering Mazapan lattes. Oh boy ❤️😘 I love that the mazapan isn’t ground into fine powder here. Yumm

Google
Love Proyecto Diaz! Such great coffee roasting technique and the baristas expertly make up the drinks of your choice. They’re also happy to suggest different beans to your taste.

Google
Amazing coffee and their pastries, tamales and chilaquiles are on point. Love the guayaba coyota (especially warmed up), their chicken tamal with salsa macha and the iced café de olla latte. Don’t get to go that often but when I do it is such a treat. Music is always good and the staff is super friendly! Highly recommend!

Google
Place is cute, drinks are great and pastries are delicious For my horchata latte lovers, the vegan version is not it. I knew that ahead of time and was informed. I still got it but wasn’t that sweet delicious nectar that we all love. otherwise. Delicious place and would come back

Google
Great coffee, friendly service, lots of dedicated indoor and outdoor (shaded and sunny) seating, adjacent to Pacific Pipe. Espresso shots are served with tonic and a mini caramel wafer. Gallery vibe with interesting ceramics on display and for sale. Just be mindful of birds in the hanger rafters. I dodged bird poop. But my book did not!

Yelp
Found this cafe by accident, and it turned into a happy accident! I tried the dirty chai latte, cafe de olla latte, and a really interesting pastry. The pastry was filled with raspberry, and it was light and flaky, just perfect! The cafe de olla latte was delicious, I could drink these every day! The dirty chai latte was okay, next time I'll have to get an extra espresso shot in it. Service was excellent, they offered to warm my pastry and I love that. The inside was interesting, not very comfortable seating, the better option is the patio outside, lots of tables and even chair swings! I can't wait to go back, highly recommend for your morning coffee!

Yelp
Went here before going climbing at Pacific Pipe to grab a coffee. The location is bright and spacious with tons of indoor and outdoor seating, but tables are coffee tables so you gotta hunch over or work on your laptop if you plan to work from here. It's not too loud here, music is played at a perfect level. The baristas are friendly and fun. Anyway I ordered a Mexican Mocha, was forewarned that it would be a little spicy. Took a sip and yeah it's got a kick to it. It was tasty, but hope to try other drinks as time goes on.

Yelp
Wrapping up a day hanging out with my best friends in the bay, they brought me to Proyecto Diaz coffee. This quaint but modern coffee shop serves up one of the best lattes I've ever had in my life. I was bummed to find out that they were out of their Horchata latte for the day, but thoroughly enjoyed the alternative that the barista suggested. You can tell that they put so much thought and care into their craft, using only the highest quality of beans. If you find yourself in the area and are needing a caffeine boost, I cannot recommend this place enough. Not to mention, they sell a variety of authentic Mexican products.

Yelp
Do yourself a favor and check out this new fabulous coffee shop. They are super nice the coffee's are amazing! They have breakfast tamales vegetarian as well as meat. The morning I went they also had fruity empanadas and pastries. You will know you have arrived when you spot the art on the building and notice all the cars... no need to worry plenty of space the front patio is where the sunshine is early inside the vibe is super chill AND they still have another patio out back! Lots of art and trinkets to look at and purchase. Seriously this is a coffee shop all coffee shops should aspire to be. Thanks for the amazing morning experience!

Yelp
Super friendly staff!! They recommended the cafe de olla, so I got it! SO GOOD. Their house made syrup was just perfect. Sweet but not too sweet. Love the flavors from the spices. I gotta try the pastries and tamales next time! They look super good!!

Yelp
Proyecto Diaz Coffee opened it's cafe & coffee roasterie here recently. Roomy, upscale, spacious with soft music in the background. They source Mexican coffee beans, celebrates Oaxacan Culture. Nice writeup in S.F. Chron food section 2/4/24. Greeted, served quickly by associates. Offerings: pour overs, drip of the day, espressos, coffee variants, tea, non caffeine drinks, pan dulce, coyotas.. Drink ready on minutes. Self serve station pointed out to me. Drink: dark roast espresso, mexican "patria" (3.75) -bold & robust taste, slightly harsh. Easy sipping 4.5 stars parking spaces not easily seen *literally zig zag a maze to get here. Best route is either 14th st. or W. Grand, turn @Mandala Parkway, turn at 20th st.

Yelp
I had this coffee shop on my saved list for a while. I found it on instagram and decided to give it a try. I came in on a Saturday and there was a good amount of people there. First thing I noticed this is more of a hang out spot not somewhere that you can work at. It has a minimalist look I really like that. They do sell some cute things. We ordered two coffee and they only had 2 milk options. They sold some pastries but not too many. I ordered a latte and that was good. My husband ordered a drink that was overly spicy I don't know what it was called. He couldn't really even drink it. We took it to go since there was no tables. My drink was good like I said but I felt I wasted money with the other spicy coffee. I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews. I just hate when I feel I wasted my money on one of the coffees.

Yelp
Great addition to the neighborhood and conveniently located right by the Rock climbing gym. Tamales were solid and decent indoor and outdoor seating options.

Yelp
Good coffee, nice location, great service, nice outside tables sheltered under roof. Next to climbing gym.

Yelp
High quality and tasty coffee drinks with an assortment of Mexican flavors. We felt welcome, even with our 1.5 year old. Was pleasantly surprised when a staff member brought out toys for my little one to enjoy while I had much needed coffee break. There's a large outdoor courtyard outside that is also nice if you want some fresh air. The mocha was delicious, and had a spicy kick. I appreciated that the barista made sure I knew that. Will be back!

Yelp
SOO GOOD! Came here on a Saturday morning and I am glad I did! Cute local coffee shop - modern, minimal vibes with elements of their roots from Mexico. Right outside they have a beautiful mural that is eye catching and pleasing to the eye.. especially if you sit outside and enjoy your cup of coffee. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful when it came to sharing what was on their menu. The coffee itself is definitely top tier quality. My husband and I got the cafe de olla latte and the Mazapan Latte.. both were amazing, unique and absolutely delicious. The Mazapan was my favorite. Fairly priced as well! I hope to try their food options as well next time I come in. I will definitely be making this a regular coffee shop of mine!

Yelp
My new favorite Oakland cafe! I tasted the cafe de olla latte, fig coyote, and tamale de rajas. They were all so delicious!

Yelp
Easy to miss this spot in the same building as the climbing gym but there's a big sign that says coffee with an arrow. Been ordering the marzapan- peanut and sugar candy iced latte since I first been here and haven't veered away from it. Easily my favorite coffee spot in the area. The simple stools can double as working space for laptop. Great service too. Closed on Sundays.

Yelp
A much needed coffee shop in West Oakland. Amazing atmosphere, excellent coffee, pastry selection. I wish you all the success and you will be seeing more of me!!

Yelp
great energy, mellow playlist, fresh pastries and deliciously foamy cafe de olla lattes. I believe the owners took my order one on the register and the other was on bar. they had big smiles and even gave us some samples. I Will definitely be back! because I want to buy their cute ceramics! they only accept card/digital payments and there's tons of street parking

Yelp
Excellent coffee and exquisite service! Such a neighborhood gem. Love the Latin vibe from decor, items for purchase to the pan dulces. If you love ascintillating and a chill ambiance, grab your next cup of joe at Proyecto Diaz.

Yelp
OH MY GODDDDDDDD! This place is SO SO SO cool! Fernando started me off with their medium roast drip from Vera Cruz and it was REALLY really perfect ! (Silky and chocolatey with some silky butterscotch and tropical fruit layers ....maybe even dried mango notes! I tried their super cool espresso set too which comes with a side of club soda and a delicious little Obleas Milk Candy Wafer (super authentic and unique)...... this espresso was an entire experience with the wafer and sparkling water chaser ! I showed up hungry and they have DELICIOUS Tamales hot and ready to go with the best salsa I've ever tasted ! I got all 3 flavors and they are ALL just to die for ..... Everything is super clean and handcrafted and infused with art and a lot of heart and authentic Oaxaca origin ! The entire staff vibes brightly and everyone is talented and smart about coffee if you choose to ask them questions about their stuff. I am a coffee roaster and a coffee geek so I love these vibes! Wow! Wow ! Wow. I would drive here from up to 50 miles away just to have these things again and enjoy time in this space !

Yelp
Amazing place to grab a specialty coffee and delicious tamale or pastry! My only suggestion is to add much more seating in the sunny patio and make a large coffee garden for all patrons to enjoy ;)

Yelp
Even before it officially opened, this place became one of my most favorite local spots. The location is beautiful inside and out. The outdoor space sports a stunning mural and plenty of space. The most important thing, the coffee is amazing and I'm very picky. I buy beans here for my own espresso machine and they do not disappoint. The customer service is top notch and I am always treated warmly. That warmth spills out to the space itself which is beautiful place to enjoy your drinks and pan dulce . They display an array of unique artisan products and I have gotten a few and all have been excellent quality. The space is chic looking but underneath that is a lot of authenticity that you can feel as soon as you walk in the door. Clearly I am a big fan.

Yelp
Cute coffee spot for a meet up or to work. I had two coffees and enjoyed both very much :) I started with the hot cafe de olla latte and cheese & chile tamale and they were delicious. We sat outside and there's a spacious amount of seating indoors and outdoors. The only thing I noted was that the indoor tables are extremely low so it would be hard to work on a laptop inside. Then I stayed so long I needed another drink, so I tried the nitro cold brew with the cafe de olla syrup (can you tell I loved it?!) and a cajeta pastry. The cold brew was powerful and delicious, the pastry was a bit dry-- I expected the inside to be soft and gooey like dulce de leche but it was dry. Would have been better to dip the pastry in a hot coffee! The service was phenomenal, the barista kindly filled up all my giant water bottles and was attentive and friendly. Overall I would highly recommend this cafe.

Hannah P.

Yelp
What an absolute gem in this neighborhood!!! Extremely high-quality coffee, unique, menu, and ambience, kind people. I'm especially fond of their nitro cold brew and all the little treats and gifts around!

Yelp
Popped over to this place as I was leaving Pac Pipe. (The old pop-up cafe inside PP seems to have closed down, so this is a nice alternative.) Proyecto's got a very clean, nicely lit Oaxacan vibe goin. The atole and the dirty chai latte were both excellent. Texture of the masa in the alote was rough and soothing; spicing in the DCL was a perfect mix of sweet & hot. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Been a fan of this place for a long time. So glad they finally opened a shop. The customer service is great. The pan dulce is delicious. Quality coffee and a fair price. Plenty of seating and the space has some really cool Mexican art for sale. I am definitely picky when it comes to my coffee and where I spend my money. This place is worth it every penny. Hannah and the rest of the staff is incredibly nice. So proud to see Latine coffee and Mexican baked goods and art getting the attention they deserve. I will definitely be a regular and still buy their beans online!

Matthew G.

Yelp
This is by far, the best coffee in town. First sip slaps you in the face then cuddles you like a warm blanket. That trek to the SF Ferry Building farmer's market was worth the trip. Glad to see a brick and mortar in Oakland for a quicker trip to caffeine heaven.

Ellen M.

Yelp
Cute and lovely little cafe. Everyone behind the counter was so nice and took time to answer a few questions I had. I got the atole and it was freaking delicious. 10/10 will come back to try more.

Lindsey H.

Yelp
Cafe de olla is so good! If you're lucky they may have atole too! Staff and owners are super nice. Great add to the neighborhood.
