"The great thing about Psoas is that founders Jennifer Lighthouse and Scott Schwartz bring so many different types of massage under the same roof; they offer everything from neurokinetic therapy to orthopedic massage. They're particularly great for sports massage (Jennifer is a former gymnast and diver) and pre-and post-natal bodywork."

Thank heaven for this place! I received expert care to address some chronic muscle pain/stiffness. Would recommend it to anyone dealing with injury.

When I was pregnant I somehow developed frozen shoulder in both shoulders. Not only was it incredibly painful, I wasn’t able to sleep on my side which you’re supposed to do as the baby gets bigger (sleeping on your back can lead to risks when the baby is big), so I was really anxious for my shoulders to heal. I was referred to Psoas by a friend and was lucky to book an appointment with Jason. He was knowledgeable, talented, and so, so kind. After a few months of sessions (they were painful and I could barely move my arms after), I felt like my shoulders were making progress and combined with PT I was fully better by my third trimester. I am so grateful to Jason for what he did to accelerate my healing, and also his empathy as a father — he squeezed me even though he’s in high demand and probably does massage therapy for pro athletes. I cannot recommend him enough if you need some sort of musculoskeletal rehab. Please pass my gratitude to Jason!

I suffered a lower back injury a few weeks ago that left me barely able to walk. Since my regular doctor didn't have anything to recommend aside from pain killers and rest I decided to try my luck with massage therapy and chiropractic treatment. I chose Psoas because they seemed like a full service clinic and I have not been disappointed in the slightest. First I got a sports massage from Marc and that loosened me up. Then a few days later I got my first chiropractic adjustment from Katherine. She recommended I get trigger point massage from Robyn and after subsequent session from the two of them my back was loosened up enough to enable to me to enjoy my former range of motion. Rest helped alot, but I don't think I'd be enjoying my current quality of life without their help. The process took about 3 weeks, but they've now set me on a path to better health. I really appreciated the synergy between them and the way I had a consistent file where they could compare notes and strategies to arrive at the optimum treatment. I've got a few more appointments with them, and I'm looking forward to each one.

In a big metropolitan city, you'd think it would be easy to find a good massage therapist. There's definitely no shortage of options in San Francisco. But I thought the search was hopeless after countless tries, until I came across Psoas Massage + Bodywork. I should preface this by stating I'm a Doctor of Physical Therapy and perhaps have high expectations. Even still, Psoas Massage + Bodywork opened my eyes to a higher quality of care both from a client and clinical perspective. What stands out most is their professionalism, communication and cleanliness. The staff took great care of me, took time to listen to my pain story, and specifically addressed both what I thought needed work, as well as what they perceived to be the issue. Aren't you tired of massage therapists working the whole body despite wanting focused work on one area? PSOAS Massage + Bodywork is a place I will confidently send my patients, friends and family alike.

Rose was great! She knew exactly how to fix my pain issues and was very helpful. I walked out in much better condition and would definitely schedule a massage with her again. I must add, I've visited many massage businesses and so far I can say Psoas Massage + Bodywork has been the best. I appreciate that all Psoas Massage + Bodywork therapists are knowledgeable, professional and know I can always get an awesome therapeutic massage.

Google
Derek is such a competent and knowledgeable therapeutic bodyworker that he was able to relieve my lower back pain AND heal the remnants of my frozen shoulder in one session. A number of weeks later, the pain returned in my shoulder and we agreed that stress was the source of my reoccurring muscular tension, which was causing more pain. Derek was willing to keep working on me, but recommended that I wait to schedule my next appointment, until I got my stress under control. I appreciated that. I went back to him once the stress lifted and he healed my body again. I’ve not had any pain since. I try to get back on a monthly basis so that I can maintain optimal body strength and it’s working out well for me. As some reviews have mentioned, it can be an expensive proposition, but when you are in pain and don’t have your health, I’ve discovered that the therapy is worth the money. I highly recommend this business. Meg

I was so impressed with my first two sessions at Psoas. They clearly know what they are doing and are incredibly thoughtful in their approach. I felt immediate progress with tightness I have been experiencing following a running injury and look forward to going back to stay tuned up. I had no idea how much massage therapist could know about the body and the intricate ways in which they can resolve issues.

Google
I had an awesome session at Psoas with Scott! I am a competitive runner, and I really felt like I was in good hands with him- He's definitely very professional and knowledgeable with athletes. The space is also very welcoming, and the reception staff were incredibly kind and helpful! I am so happy to have found my new go-to massage place!!

Yelp
I came here once last year and the massage I had was great. The only problem was they waited until AFTER my massage to tell me that the price was going to be about 15% higher than what was advertised on the website due to the masseuse increasing their rate. I don't mind paying more money for more experienced bodyworkers but the fact that they only told me after my massage really put me off this place. I'm sure this place has great body workers but just make sure you ask what the rate is before going in because apparently the rate on the website might not be accurate.

Yelp
Just had a session with Brenden that was amazing. It was a combo of Thai and assisted stretching and it I feel like a really good tool for folks that surf or Snowboard. Brenden does both and from the get go I could tell he knew what was going to work. Highly recommend for board sports people!!!

Yelp
Great experience! Derek was fantastic and was able to really focus on my shoulder (my issue at the time) and even go over exercises to continue strengthening. A+

Yelp
Stay away from this place. I was injured while I was there and when I called to let them know they offered no empathy and they took no responsibility. I've had body work many times over the years and have never had that happen. They offered me to come back and partially cover the treatment. Why would I trust coming back and why would I come give you more money? It's sick to injure someone and be so cold about it.

Yelp
This body work establishment truly goes above and beyond with the care they provide their clients. The front desk staff to the massage therapist... I'm so grateful I was pointed in the direction to come to Psoas bc they have been pivotal in healing my body/soul after 2 years of chronic pain with my shoulder and back. My massage therapist, who's name shall not be revealed (Bc I don't want everyone to realize what a world class massage therapist they are and snatch up all my appts :') ) is so intuitive and gifted in their craft. I don't know anybody else that can read and communicate with my muscles and tendons like they can!! And, getting to know the front desk staff over these past few years has been the cherry on top. They remember my name, remember to call me if something pops up and I can tell they really care about their jobs. I love the Psoas team!!

Yelp
I had a great experience with Sarah. I've had a bulged disk with sharp pain and hip tightness for over 2 years that impacted my energy daily and quality of life. 1 hour with Sarah and I feel better than I have in so long, I don't know why I didn't try bodywork sooner. If you have muscle / skeletal pain, she is amazing, understands the body really well on a technical and intuitive level, and can feel where your body is in pain, where it's working correctly, and where it's not and why, then apply pressure in lots of spots to make the muscles work together better and keep bones in better positions

Yelp
Is there a reason why your front desk is rude? I tried to make an appointment but it sounds like she does not want this place to have any new business. I asked when is the next available appointment. She didn't say anything so I asked again. She was like: "I'm looking at the calendar. Is that ok?" "Nothing is available in July." She didn't even offer to call me back if anyone cancels. Just waited there for me to hang up. When I asked, she was very implantiert. Her tone was harsh during the entire call. I changed my mind. Please don't call me back. Such a shame for the good reviews.
google avatar

Safak O.

Yelp
The only way to make an appointment is to read your credit card information over the phone to the staff member. This is wrong. If a business place cares about their customers and their own reputation, they should adopt a safe payment method like PayPal or Venmo. I've been a victim of identity theft twice on two different credit cards already. Don't do it folks. Don't make a payment over the phone, don't ask for it either.

Yelp
Getting treatment at Psoas Massage + Bodywork worked miracles for me. Sica was my sports massage therapist and she helped me heal my injury which all my physiotherapist/doctors failed to diagnose/treat. She spent some time before the session to identify what I was expecting from her. During the 1 hour session, she helped me identify my tight/stressed muscles which were the source of pain. She has a great understand of all the muscles and their interactions. After the session, she showed me some stretches and foam roll techniques. She also shared her bath recipe with me which helped a lot in my recovery.

Yelp
Psoas is the best massage and bodywork establishment in San Francisco! All of their therapists are amazing. I have been seeing Cheryl for massage and K.C. for Rolffing for the last year or so as they have helped me come back from an extremely invasive surgery to perform athletically and live in comfort. They also have an awesome infrared sauna! I like to use the sauna before bodywork sessions as I feel it loosens the muscles up and allows the practitioner to go deeper in their work. I like to use the hottest setting as it makes me work up a good sweat and I feel lighter and younger for days afterward. I've also noticed improvement in my skin and GI issues after using the sauna as well. Definitely try adding it to your services, it's totally worth the time and money!

Yelp
Best place for massage with knowledgeable therapists! Fairly active and had a hiccup with PT and this is the only place I would trust

Yelp
Hands down the best Sports massage therapy place in the city. I play a lot of tennis, and have encountered shoulder, knee, and quad injuries. The expertise in this shop is phenomenal. They have fixed me multiple times. If your body needs attention: just go see them, this is a no brainer.

Yelp
It seems like some of the really negative reviews here fall into a few categories: 1. Expectations that one short massage can cure them of every problem they've ever had; 2. Passive/aggressive communication issues, whereby the therapist is supposed to also be an unpaid psychic; or 3. One or both of the therapist or customer having a bad day. #3 just happens sometimes. #1 & #2 kinda make me laugh, especially when they're written by people who claim to be therapists themselves--why would they go to a different business/spa or not get anything but a stellar referral from within their trade, if they're so good? Weird paradox. Also, the same kind of person who wouldn't respect a therapist trying to have the front desk help them while they prepared for their next client would be the EXACT kind of person who would be PISSED at that therapist for being one picosecond delayed in starting their own appointment... Anyway, I've only had GREAT experiences here. When I'm in town, I look forward to getting help from Alex. He is respectful, intuitive, communicative but not pestering, joyful/kind, and comes off as very knowledgable in his craft. But, for me, the proof is in the pudding: after over a decade's worth of back pain and an inability to touch my feet without first stretching for 5-10 minutes down from my knee area, I can now touch my toes on cue! And, despite my making fun of negative reviews for reason #1, this actually WAS the result after my first session, though I'm not a silly or crazy person, so I booked 90min. If you're serious about fixing a problem, know it's not going to be free or immediate, and can communicate normally while being patient, I'd highly recommend this place and Alex...though please don't book my time slot! I now always look forward to coming back to SF, because I know my body will feel better by the time I leave. If only I didn't start sooner, I'd have avoided a decade of unnecessary pain and random back spasms...oh yeah, haven't had a single back spasm since I started treatments a few months ago!

Yelp
I cannot stop recommending this place and D Bacome, the therapist I had. I have a physical job and kept injuring my oblique, and my GP guessed that I might have an issue with my psoas muscle. I work in a grocery store so I don't make a lot of money, but my best friend across the country did the research and found this place. And not only because the muscle is in the name! And my friend gave me a gift certificate for the best therapist they had for my issue. So I went to see D and ... WOW. They explained EVErytHING as they worked on me, even stuff I couldn't really grasp. When I gave feedback, they took it in and used the info to discover further issues. When I got up I felt amazing and loose for the first time in years. And when they saw me walking toward the door, they noticed my ankle is really unstable and could be the cause of the ongoing hip and oblique issues. Which led me to an ankle surgeon who could not believe how bad my ankle is, and had scheduled me to have it surgically repaired. Anyway, one visit and a decade of pain issues are being addressed finally. I can't recommend D enough, and I'll return when I save up and really need them again!

Yelp
I could not recommend this place more! I originally came to Kieran with IT band syndrome, which I had had for about a year and within 3 sessions, the pain was completely gone and I was back to my normal long runs. I had also had back pain for two years, which I thought was unrelated, but Kieran assured me they were linked, and that ALSO WENT AWAY. Kieran is so incredibly knowledgeable, especially about legs and he has techniques to really get through to the deepest/strongest muscles and fascia. Now that my main injury is healed, I go to Kieran for maintenance every month/6-weeks. I almost always walk away from the appointment feeling relief. If you are an athlete/runner etc. and have pain in your legs or really anywhere, go to Kieran!

Yelp
I recently went to one session with Scott and one with David because I got severe plantar fasciitis 3 weeks before a marathon. I feel close to fully healed and am able to run pain free! I owe much of my health to Scott and David. David and Scott both work with incredible efficiency and an exceptional understanding of the body. They are able to pinpoint trigger points quickly and make major adjustments in a fraction of the time that it takes other masseuses. They may cost more than other body workers, but they are worth the money. Additionally, the office is absolutely beautiful. It's the kind of place you want to hang out in all day (and maybe steal some interior decorating ideas from). The reception staff is warm, helpful, and calming. If you are looking for high quality bodywork. Especially if you are an athlete, try PSOAS.

Yelp
I've been seeing David Bacome for a range of issues for several years. Neck stiffness from cycling. Broken wrist. Recovering from a serious skiing accident. After long cycle touring trips, ski season, and other intense sporting activities. David is truly a master at figuring out how the body is out of balance! He constantly is taking workshops and courses, to learn new practices and deepen his knowledge. The skill and precision of his work is well worth the wait to get on his schedule and the cost of his services (which are higher than at a spa, reflecting the high level of training he has). I've received massages from 5-8 different people here over the past decade. You have to find the right practitioner, because he therapists have different styles and specialties. Your ability to communicate what you want (and what you don't want) is essential. I decided not to go back to several therapists, but am very loyal to other therapists at Psoas who've been exactly what I need. #1 tip: explain exactly what you would consider a successful or poor session, and make sure you're matched with the therapist who can deliver that. #2 tip: I wear comfy clothes so I can get up to test out how adjustments feel, as they go.

Yelp
TLDR version: I would give more stars if I could, worth every penny and amazing staff. July 2019 - felt nerve pain and lower back pain which I thought was mild sciatica, took Advil and went about my day despite this. August - pain gets worse I end up in the ER. Had an MRI done and turns out I have not one but TWO herniated discs and nerve issues as a result - entire right leg feels like lightning bolts are shooting out of it. I'm doped up on Ketamine at Highland, put on meds for the pain and nothing helps. September - feeling kinda desperate over here so my doc ups the pain meds. Nada. October - I get put on prednisone and end up with a low back epidural shot. By this time my muscles are working overtime and my body is totally misaligned from leaning to one side to avoid the pain. November - the physio medicine doc I had only seen ONCE recommends I get surgery and I was like hell nah. I need an alternative. I found Psoas because I thought I'd be able to use some relief from how much work my muscles were doing. After an intake and talk with Amy she recommended a clinical massage which I was so desperate for relief I was like yea let's do it. Whatever it takes. Surgery spooked me into seeking a different method of healing. After maybe the second massage I was standing upright, walking normally and able to drive again. A couple more and I had felt more relief than ever before and no longer chugging Advil like it was water. Amy has been like an angel, providing relief from this awful pain and knowledge on how muscles work and what I can do to help prevent this back injury from getting worse. Fast forward to today and I can finally sleep, move around, dance and surf like I did before when all Kaiser wanted was to throw medication my way and surgery as a fix. This was the best decision I could have ever made to help get me back on track. It's pricey but worth it. Amy, I can't thank you enough. For a minute I thought I'd be stuck with this pain forever.

Yelp
Summary: not a cheap option, but once you have a therapeutic massage (compared to a relaxing massage) at Psoas, it makes the money you would spend on massages at spas feel like a waste of money. Ambiance: Psoas isn't a spa. It offers therapeutic/rehabilitative massage. The office is clean, quiet, modern, and comfortable. The treatment rooms are similarly clean, modern, and comfortable. Depending on who you see, they may or may not put on the relaxing music typical of a massage in a spa. Service: This is why you come here. The service/massage you get at Psoas isn't relaxing (unless you request a relaxing massage). The bodywork professionals here have extensive knowledge of various techniques to rehab you from exercise injuries or death by desk job. They will ask what ails you and what you'd like worked on. They are always receptive to feedback about pressure and approach, but if you want them to really get in there and release your fascia, they will do it. I've seen several therapists at Psoas, and am currently going to Ginger. Since I first started going to Psoas and had heat therapy with my massages, I try to always see the therapist that incorporates heat into their approach. I find it allows them to get at the deeper tissue and thus it seems like the effects are longer lasting. Price/Value: On the one hand, it's super expensive. On the other hand, the last time I booked a 1 hour massage at a spa, it was just as expensive, and the effects didn't last much after I got off the table. Yes, there are definitely other less expensive options in the city, and usually the trade offs are both ambiance and technique. Sometimes a relaxing massage in a less spa-like environment will do it for you. For me, I'd rather save my money for really great therapeutic massage instead.

Yelp
I made an appointment and the person on the phone penciled me in for 30 days away (soonest slot avail). 30 days later they said they had no record of the appointment and i was told sorry im out of luck i need to wait another month.

Yelp
Really terrible customer service. I confirmed an appointment and they lost it. Scheduling snafus happen, but they were so inconsiderate: no apology, no offer of rebooking with the same masseuse, no acknowledgement that there was anything slightly inconvenient to the customer. There are too many good places in SF to waste time with one that is so unprofessional.
google avatar

Iya T.

Yelp
I had Lauryn and she sucked. She didn't check in with me at all (how the pressure is, how I'm doing etc) which makes her one of the worst therapists. Also, I came to this place because I had a specific need. I wanted my psoas, iliacus and gluteal loosened. I told her so. I did not need a full body massage. But she said "I cannot spend entire time only on those areas because you are so sensitive." and gave me a little bit everything mediocre massage. I am a professional massage therapist also. I think you better give what your client asked for. She didn't communicate with me at all, so I told her how and what I needed. That probably pissed her off, I guess. But I don't care because then why don't you initiate the conversation and ask your client how and what she/he needs. Check in with her/him. Ask!!!! I don't want a massage you want to give. I want a massage I want. Deep tissue massage is a problem solving, area focused massage. Yes it's deep, but it doesn't have to be painful. If you are educated well, you should know how to approach to each body. You said "you came to a deep tissue place (but you are too sensitive)" to me. I know where I came to and why I came here. I know what deep tissue massage is. I expected you would be better than average therapist and I knew exactly what I needed. But you were less than expected and my need was not satisfied. I'm SO disappointed Psoas hires such an inexperienced therapist here. But I leaned something from you Lauryn. You are a very good "bad therapist" model!

Yelp
Would not recommend to anyone!! I came here with a pain in my left shoulder which I explained in great detail when I was making this appointment with the receptionist who asked me to provide all this information! When I arrived for my appointment I filled out a form outlining my symptoms and where I needed work done. When I met with the therapist, Alex,I again explained my symptoms and that the main reason I was there was to get relief in my left shoulder. Alex started working on my back and then moved on to my right shoulder and then told me the session was over, without ever working on my left shoulder the one causing me pain! Despite me reminding him again during the session that it was my left shoulder causing me pain! I then told him he never actually worked on the shoulder in pain and he said he thought it was my right shoulder and apologized and worked on my left shoulder for 2 minutes and the apologized and said he would talk to front seat but that he had to prepare for his next client! I left the appointment in more pain than I went in, I held off writing this review in the hope that it was a case of getting worse before getting better, it has been 5 days now and I am still in pain! Front desk gave me a 10% discount which is less than satisfactory! I cannot speak for other therapists here but I advice you not to go to Alex! Very very very disappointed

Daniel G.

Yelp
I've had both amazing and terrible massages here. I would suggest you don't book a sports massage with a stranger close to a big race. My latest massage left me feeling almost injured, even days after I had it. Book one while you're training. Find someone good. On the odd chance they set you back, at least you have time to recover. Once you find a good masseuse, stick to them and don't leave anything to chance!

Yelp
I have only started to become a massage person over the last few years, and Psoas is my place of choice. Michael Talbot has been my massage therapist over these years and has helped with all sorts of aches and pains. I'm not an athlete but as a professional chair-sitter, I unfortunately find myself with sore muscles. Michael specializes in neuro-kinetic therapy which I had never heard of before I went to see him. This type of massage won't be relaxing at all, but the effect is amazing. The purpose behind NKT is to understand the root cause of your pain and determine if it's due to an under-utilized muscle which Michael identifies and gets working again. Psoas isn't a fancy spa or anything, but they are incredibly effective. Validated parking is available at the lot just before Psoas (you'd turn right into the parking garage entrance just before the strip of stores where Psoas is).

Laura K.

Yelp
Love this place, I've been going here a couple years now. The massages really have helped with some back/neck issues Ive had from being a desk worker. The front desk is always super accommodating too.

Yelp
Overdue review here. Sarah is amazing! She worked on me about 3 weeks ago and was unreal. After hiking the south portion of the Lost Coast Trail, I had a right achilles issue, and a left knee issue. She noticed my achilles was still slightly warm and not ready to be worked on yet. For my knee, she worked on deep lateral areas of my quad that I didn't even know needed it. With additional stretching, the knee's good to go now. Everything else about the session was perfect. She was attentive to a past AC Joint injury, and worked out some areas of persistent annoyance. Will be in the San Fran area again soon and definitely scheduling another appt with her. Thank you Sarah!

Yelp
This review is long overdue because I have struggled to put into words just how much Jason and Psoas have changed my life for the better. Everyone I have seen at Psoas is good, but this review is about the exceptional Jason and P-DTR. I have a rare and extremely painful nerve condition called RSD which developed after a nerve injury. Remission is possible but its mechanism is unknown and there is no cure. I came to Jason after seeing all the best doctors (Stanford, UCSF), physical therapists, acupuncturists and more. They were great, but had all helped me about as much as they could, and I was told in a variety of ways that I would have to learn to live with the (still quite bad) pain I had left. For years, my arm hurt so much that it could not be touched, so when I came to Jason for a massage I asked him, as I always did back then, to only work on my shoulders and not touch my left arm at all. I found Jason immediately to be an excellent massage therapist as well as very compassionate and kind. After working on my shoulders for awhile Jason asked if he could try a technique he knew called P-DTR on my arm. I was very nervous due to my pain but something told me to trust him, so I agreed. I was not expecting any results. I was amazed to find that Jason was able to immediately remove some of my pain. I have continued to work with Jason and have improved astronomically. I have gone from being in very bad pain all the time to having a pretty normal life with much more normal pain. If you have a less complicated problem than mine you will probably have even better results. This technique is amazing and more importantly, Jason is an incredibly gifted person. He is a true healer, and also very kind and funny. I have actually cried after visiting him because of the amount of pain he has been able to relieve. This is something even most of my doctors have been unable to do. It really is not possible to fully explain how gifted Jason is. You will have to see for yourself. IMPORTANT NOTE: P-DTR will seem crazy or weird when you first do it. You will wonder if this can actually work. Just go with it and wait and see -- it does.

Seriously love this place. While I also don't mind a hot tub and cucumber water, when I need some serious healing this is the only place I'll go. Muscle diagrams on all the walls, this is serious business. Really highly recommended to get your body functioning again.

Yelp
I have been hesitant to write this review, because I have friends who swear by this place, but feel that it is necessary to inform others who may be looking to similar solutions to their chronic ailments. I have been suffering from chronic back and neck pain, and limited mobility for the past 5 years. After a friend highly recommended PSOAS, I called to schedule an appointment. I described my symptoms and they immediately recommended that I see Michael Roberts for "Rolfing." Unfamiliar with the term, I was intrigued and decided to give it a go. Upon arrival, the staff was polite and offered me tea while I waited. This built up my expectations for an overall positive experience. Unfortunately though, when it came down to the actual work, I was less impressed. Below is a list of negative elements that led me to write this review: The Room/Equipment - the room was sterile and cold - the bed had an odd smell, as did the head/face rest - the sheets were transparent The Work - the work done on my neck and back was minimal - since "Rolfing" is holistic, work was done on my hips, legs, and buttocks - the technique felt less like a deep tissue massage and more like someone twisting and stretching my skin, which was extremely painful - I was hurried out and there was little time to discuss things I could do as "homework" to improve The Results - I smelled weird from either the lotion that was used or from the bed and head/face rest - I didn't expect immediate results, so I wasn't disappointed when by the end of the session, I felt pretty much the same and my mobility/range of motion had not improved - the next day I had a deep purple bruise from where my buttocks was overworked In general, when it comes to these kinds of things, I am a patient person who trusts the professional who is providing the service. In this case, I left dissatisfied, wishing I could have spent my $135 elsewhere. Perhaps a different technique or therapist would have been more appropriate for my ailments, but I went with what was recommended by the experts. Overall, like I said, the staff was polite, there's tea in the lobby, and I have a handful of friends who swear by this place, so don't let my review be the determining factor for choosing not to go here. I encourage you to do some research and find out what technique is best for you before committing to something unproven and expensive.

Yelp
There really isn't enough praise I can give to the bodywork therapists at Psoas. I've been going here for several years, and it's helped me manage the pain I suffer from plantar fasciitis and other pains that have come up from running and working out. The massage therapists here know so much about the body and are extremely educated in so many different types of techniques (I've had sports massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, active release technique, and cupping all done here). You can go to seek treatment for a specific injury or get a full-body if that's what you need. Note: this is not a spa-like experience, it's more body- and athletic-focused. So if you're looking for fancy oils and a zen soundtrack, this is not the place. If you want to walk out the door feeling 100-percent better than you did when you walked in, call them!

Yelp
This is my fist time at Psoas Massage. I have a wide range of neck issues, starting from cervical disc herniations, TMJ disorder, migraines, you name it. I reached out to Psoas out of desperation. I had extreme fatigue from intramuscular injections I received from my neurologist 2 months ago, and as the numbness was wearing off, my neck muscles were spasming/flaring up, causing paresthesia- burning all over my neck/shoulders, and even numbness in my scalp. Further, I was getting pinched nerves, causing my neck range of motion to decrease significantly, and extreme acute pain. The person I spoke to from reception was extremely knowledgeable and empathetic. Just by talking to them, I knew I would be in the hands of trustworthy, caring people. Saw Sarah yesterday for 30 mins, but unfortunately, the massage wasn't deep enough nor long enough to make a difference with my acute pain. The real hero was Jason. I went to him for a 1 hr massage, and in that hour, he restored majority (~70%) of the range of motion on my neck. The pain is significantly less, and my neck isn't on fire anymore when I'm standing at work. I've been to TONS of massage therapists in sf, in South Bay, and basically most of my life, since I've had aforementioned issues for the last 10-15 years. I can honestly tell Jason knows exactly what he is doing, and is a seasoned, trustworthy therapist. I'll be going back to see him 10000%. Thank you for helping me today, Jason. The sessions are extremely expensive ($175/hr), NOT paid by my insurance. However, the price I paid was worth saving me tons of pain and potential headaches/migraines that typically result from flare ups, when left untreated. If you're in lots of nerve / muscular pain, and need help, call the front desk and book an appt. These people care about you, and will try to get you seen by someone, even if it's just for 30 min, no matter how busy.

Yelp
The first time my husband tried to get an appointment, he waited for a whole month but somehow the system didn't get his appointment in. So he waited a whole month just to be told there was no appointment. He decided to give it a second try because he heard the therapists are very good. The therapists are actually very good but the management is a complete disaster as they don't care abt customers at all. They are ready to take advantage of you. After my husband got a massage, they scheduled him for another one month later. He wasnt thinking straight at that time as he just had a massage and feeling sleepy. During the one month, they sent him multiple promotional emails asking him to schedule another massage, but they never sent him a reminder of the appointment. They didn't bother to call him when he was late for the appointment but instead just said he missed the appointment afterwards and charged him the full amount of $200+. I'm surprised till this day, there are still businesses that don't send customer a simple reminder as good customer service. Let alone the appointment was "sold" to my husband when he was feeling sleepy and wasn't thinking straight after the massage. Think about your flight, shuttle booking, restaurant reservation, hotel reservation, massage reservation I have had in other places, work meetings, doctors' appointments, haircut appointment etc. etc., there are always appointment reminders and most of the times those things don't even cost as much as $200 for 90min. For such an expensive massage service, they don't give you any reminder, and took advantage of your not so clearly headed moments to seek a service a month later - this is horrible.

Yelp
Worst service ever. First let me say that David is amazing. One of the best therapists is worked with. If this review was on him, I'd give him 5 stars. However, after 2 years of going to them for treatment, I had a snafu with my appointment and couldn't make it. Did they care? Not one bit. When I was going there, they treated me like they cared about me. When I couldn't make it, they said, " We'll just charge your card for $175." And they did within minutes of my call. You would think after 2 years they would try to help me out. I will never go back. I will tell all my friends how horrible they, as a business, treat their patients. Ridiculous.

Yelp
I have played for rugby for 11 years and am no stranger to extreme injuries. After playing rugby professionally for a year, I walked with acute pain in my pelvis and hips for close to a year. I saw several orthopedic surgeons, but none of them could pin point the root of my pain. I went to PT 2-3x a week, and while the treatment helped relieve some of my pain, it didn't address the origin of the symptoms either. Eventually, my PT suggested I try PSOAS. I called them, they asked me a few quick questions about the nature of my impediment and recommended that I see Michael Ward. Let me just say that to me, Michael Ward is nothing short of a miracle worked. After a long, painful session, I walked away with minimal pain. I continued to see Michael 2-3 times a month for a few months until her recommended that I start working with Michael Talbot, who specializes in NKT. Through my work with Michael Talbot, I was able to further correct some of the imbalances in my movement. I am a die hard fan of this place. I have now been going there for 2 years and will continue to do so for as long as I exercise. I saw a couple of different massage therapists during a time that M-Ward wasn't around, and I have yet to be disappointed with a session there. I strongly recommend trying this place out, especially if you're suffering from sports-related injuries or have any sort of chronic pain.

Yelp
I wanted to start by saying that all the therapists I have seen have tremendous knowledge of the human body and the contortions we find ourselves in. I consider the years spent twisted up in knots to be damaging to the body, causing all kinds of back, shoulder, arm, and wrist pain and weakness. Currently I'm under the care of Sica and wanted to express how grateful I am that she has cured most of the pain and I look forward to continued treatments. Sica has gone out of her way to follow up with me, offering home care and maintenance instructions in addition to her expert treatments. Thank you Sica and Psoas for your fine care.

Yelp
Best massage of my life by an "intern" here. If you need real bodywork done this is the spot.

Yelp
Miracle workers! I've never gotten Bodywork before and was having low back/sacrum pain, plus shin splints thanks to months of high mileage training. I met with Scott first and was amazed and how he knew exactly how to pin point my pain. He talked me through every step of the way and massaged points that relieved my pain completely. The next week I met with Amos who did the exact same thing. Today I don't feel creaky and my back doesn't hurt while sitting at my desk. I'm stoked to go back for more sessions!!

Yelp
I would 100% recommend this place to anyone who really wants to get a stubborn chronic issue worked out to resolution. It's not really a relaxing massage (though it is after). It's the kind of massage that finds your knots and works on them until they release. I've never had the relief of a massage last more than a day but after 4 sessions I feel a dramatic improvement in the chronic issues I've had with my shoulders/neck from working and lower back/hips from an old injury. The customer service is great and the place is nice.

Yelp
derek is absolutely incredible! this place is worth every penny. they have been professional throughout COVID with measures to clean and sanitize spaces and rooms. they also have validated parking in the building, which is a great perk given the challenge of finding parking in SOMA

Yelp
The money spent is well worth it here. The therapists are professional and their therapeutic massages are effective. They really focused on the root cause of my tight muscles, and I walked out feeling much better.

Yelp
One of the best massages I've ever had. They really work hard to stretch and massage you. I got a 60 min massage with Sarah to help an aching shoulder. She ended up massaging everywhere except my actual shoulder, and I though for sure it didn't work. That is until she finished, and I tried using it. It was almost completely better. It was amazing! I'll definitely be going back.

Yelp
Derek is amazing! I got a deep tissue massage from him to heal stress knots on my body and he was amazing! Highly recommend him!

Yelp
I had an awesome session with Scott! He really takes the time to get to know you, your history, and your goals as well as your body. I am a competitive runner, and I really felt like I was in good hands with him! He's definitely very professional and knowledgeable with athletes. The space is also very welcoming, and the reception staff were incredibly kind and helpful! I am so happy to have found my new go-to massage place!! I have recommended Psoas to my other runner friends dealing with various aches and pains, and I will continue to do so. :)

Yelp
Just got a 60-minute massage from William. I was suffering from whiplash post- aggressive tubing in Tahoe and couldn't move my neck to either side without pain/soreness. William completely got rid of my neck pain. I didn't know it was possible to actually get rid of the pain so quickly, but it's gone and I can move my neck normally again! William was also generally knowledgeable about anatomy and explained to me what he was doing at each step. And he gave me exercises to do afterwards for posture, etc. Cost $125/hour, which was totally worth it to get rid of this specific pain, and I may go back for general body work (e.g., he recommended another session for me to open up my chest for posture).
