It is amazing how every time a business opens up in South Miami, it barely lasts a year. Judging from the management at Pub 52, seems like history will repeat itself.
Since we live in South Miami we decided to give it a try. My boyfriend actually put together a group of almost 30 of his friends to go and enjoy live music from a fantastic local band called Nightshift.
When we were ready to order, I thought the menu was a bit pricey and the selections quite limited.
I ordered a kale salad and added tuna, which ended up being a 22$ salad, The tuna was not rare which is what I expected, it was actually pretty well cooked. I guess it was my fault because I should've asked instead of just assuming it was rare.
My boyfriend ordered a churrasco steak (pretty scrawny)which was about $21 and came with one side, Our server, Mario did not even bother to ask how he wanted the steak cooked. We were trying to gather our group together which was a pretty large one and with the hustle and bustle and greeting everyone, it slipped my mind and by the time I tried to wave him down he was gone.
The band started playing, we all started dancing , drinks came and went and we were having a good time enjoying the music. One of the servers commented it was the biggest crowd they had ever had.
I spent most of the evening on the dance floor and when the bill came it was $200 including tips.
My boyfriend is not a big drinker and asked Mario Our server, what had happened to his Johnny Walker. It was no longer on the table. Mario said he would get him a new drink. A couple of minutes later he came back saying that his manager did not allow it. We were in shock. Imagine having brought in 30 people to a club having them spend maybe $100 per couple (our bill May have been higher because we treated some guests to drinks)and the manager not approving one lousy-drink. To add insult to injury, the manager Tony came out and basically got into a one on one argument with my boyfriend, implying that we were making all of this up just to try to get a free drink. Imagine after having spent $200 and brought in almost $3000 into the club which would not have otherwise come in.
What kind of management would even blink at offering a free drink when the server mistakingly took the drink off the table? My boyfriend told him he was the worst f-ing manager he had ever seen to which Toni replied that he had spit on him and he would need to leave the restaurant, someone from the kitchen , maybe a cook? actually came out for back-up!
Never since we have been together has my boyfriend EVER had an issue at a restaurant, it is Usually me who has the high expectations. And it is not even the drink but rather the principle. Of the whole thing.
Not only did Tony handle this in an unprofessional and tactless matter, he also lost us locals customers, and it is guaranteed that we will never bring our group of friends into this establishment again.
Congratulations. Tony!
