"Quebec City’s staple Irish pub serves more than just beer: it’s quite the whiskey destination with regular tastings offered either by the distillers themselves or the very knowledgeable, friendly staff. See also: the charming private terrasse." - Allison Van Rassel

Google
Great Irish pub with classic Irish beers and spirits, but also local beers and various whiskey and gin. The Bartender was very friendly and provided exceptional service. Great conversation. The building is old and charming. I look forward to returning to this spot.i did not have any food. Great place!

Do not go here. When my buddy and I discovered this place a few months ago, it was alright, except for the fact that the bartender berated us into giving a bigger tip (we had already given 12% and put another 20$ in the fuzzball). Strike one. Then recently we went back trying to get a Guinness, in those 4 months, the price had risen 1.50$ putting the 2 Guinness and tip to 25$. Strike two. This time we went when the place wasnt full, maybe 60% and as my friend and I went to sit at a table, the staff told us we couldn't sit there and that we needed to find a 2person table, not the 4person table we chose. Over the 90min we spent there, no one sat at those tables and it didn't get any busier. Strike three. In summary, the staff were rude and kept asking for more money, the price of their drinks are far from competitive, and the recent renovation that lowered the ceiling has reduced the atmosphere significantly. If you're looking for a decent Irish pub in Quebec city, there are better choices. The Bar Saint Mathews is just up the hill 20 seconds and is a much better choice. It's a shame that Nelligan's turned out to be so disappointing.

Almost no food, service was slow but the waiter was happy and kind. Atmosphere was typical for that kind of pub, music a bit too loud for easy conversation.

Google
Sooooo, this place is a combo of an modern Irish pub meets Québécois fun. There was only the one bartender (François) working about 25 patrons and he rocked it! Fast as hell and as friendly as one can be in a busy pub! Trust me I know cuz I've been "in the weeds" behind the bar from working that side of the wood for over 15 years. It's not easy to to keep track of every order, pickup & clean glassware and still entertain your audience. Hats off and Très bien fait monsieur!

Google
Good beer, good music. It's just not worth putting up with the lousy service and 15% forceful tip, if you they are gonna charge you the tip even if their hospitality is not worth it, they may as well just put it as part of the price of the product. I used to go there regularly, the last nail on the coffin for me was in the middle of the summer festival they asked for my ID to go inside, I didn't have it so ok, I asked if I could at leats use the restroom, since the initial plan was to go in, buy multiple beers and use the restroom, they wouldn't even let me in to do that, so yeah, that's it for me.

2024 edit: used to be a great Irish pub, change of ownership lead to a pivot to a basic pub like any other. Not a problem in itself if that’s what you want. Not for me. Original review: Great selection of beer and even more scotch.

Google
We were tourists from Portland, Maine. This pub was recommended to us as a local spot that service industry people go to in Quebec City. Loved it- went twice. Bartender Lawrence made the experience for us, but also a warm and welcoming atmosphere in general. Clean. Foos ball table and interesting features in the taps and bar design. Fantastic watering hole, with all age locals. Playlists were good, too.

Great whisky selection, great play list, awesome people at the counter!

Yelp
Went there on a cold Tuesday night in August 2017, mostly for a pint of Guinness and to rest my tired legs. The drink was amazing, whiskey collection on point. But what ensued would turn out to be one of the most memorable nights of my trip. Sitting in the back room crushing my pint, I slowly noticed people walking in with instruments one by one. I am talking harmonica, fiddlers, guitars, banjos, drums - you get gist. And in the most nonchalant and most welcoming way, one by one they ALL started playing together!!! I am not talking 5 people, imagine more like 15-20 people all playing together! Just sitting around causally, drinking beers, enjoying each other's company and playing some of the most impromptu Irish music you will ever hear! I can't recommend this place enough. I have never seen anything like this. Will definitely turn up if I'm ever in the area!

Yelp
We stopped in for a drink after dinner. The bar tender was very friendly. Loved the ambiance. Fun place.

Yelp
Was not expecting to find a great Irish bar in Quebec City with perfect pints of Guinness, but here we are. This entire bar with barrels for tables in the front and chairs and regular tables in the back was just what I needed for my afternoon drinking. I raise a glass to this great bar which I'll gladly return to when I'm back in town.

Yelp
It looked interesting and it was little more than half full on a Friday night. We were recommended this place by the landlord of the B&B we stayed at, and it was only a short walk away. However, we were also hungry after a long drive. There was a bit of a wait as the waitress got a group of three or four patrons checked out; there seemed to be only one server. This place is not very big; there are a few tables in the front where you get in, and a few more in a quiet room in the back, where there was one longer table for bigger groups - where only 1 or 2 people were seated. Meanwhile, as we waited, we checked out the drinks menu which looked interesting. When she finally got to us, we asked about food, and she brought out a food menu, which mainly consisted of snack foods, which was unappealing to us at that time. This place is not good for a meal. We decided to go elsewhere.

Yelp
I've been into bourbon lately. We stopped into a bar down the road and they only had Jack Daniels, so they recommended that we try Nelligan's, and it did not disappoint! They had a great selection of bourbon and whiskey, so I had a bourbon sour and my husband enjoyed a Guinness. Nice atmosphere/music and top notch service!

Yelp
Great Irish pub! You should visit for a whiskey and a beer! When I walked in from the freezing snow I was greeted with a full band playing authentic Irish music the perfect pairing to warm the soul! This is another reason to keep walking further than the beaten path to find a great gem.

Yelp
Favorite drinking establishment in Quebec city. Few english speakers here though the bartenders are at least bilingual. Great whisky selection.

Evan M.

Yelp
Excellent whisky selection, unique and charming indoor and outdoor seating, cheap prices, fun specials, and exceptionally friendly bartenders!

Yelp
Super super cute Irish pub! I'll say, since I was on vacation everything may seem "cuter" than in really is, but who cares. I dug this place. The interior was very cozy, lots of natural wood surfaces which are always warm. They also had a lovely terrasse (or Patio as we'd call it in English). Unfortunately in Quebec it seems they smoke on patios, so that made the atmosphere a little less than desirable for non-smokers, but it's that way at every restaurant so take it or sit indoors. The beer selection was pretty good and we found the bar tender to be friendly and competent. When you're basically drinking and snacking on Poutine what more do you need really? If I lived around here I have a hunch I might be a regular at Pub Nelligan's.

Yelp
This pub hit the spot after a day of exploring Quebec. The atmosphere is lovely and the bartender couldn't have been nicer. The cream ale was delicious and the patio was idyllic. Totally going back.

Alex J.

Yelp
The bartenders here are jerks. NOT an American friendly establishment. If you don't speak perfect French then they won't serve you or they'll charge you extra.

Anthony A.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this little pub. Very friendly and clean. Yes the bar lady spoke English and she could tell us about the huge selection of whisky's. I don't normally give 4 stars but this little gem just hit the spot. Not to big and noisy with a good friendly local crowd and good drinks. Carry on, carry on.

Yelp
A nice, cozy, rustic Irish bar tucked away off the main street. Nice beer selection including yummy Sleeman Beers. A great place to just relax.

Marvin T.

Yelp
Very good selection of scotch! If a bit out of the way, it's a great place to grab a drink and a chat

Yelp
I was there for their Saint Patricks parade this past March, and it was a blast. I highly recommend this pub.

Farhan F.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood pub. Order the nachos. Best ever! Great beers on tap. Highly recommended.

Dave H.

Yelp
Would give it zero stars. I never write reviews but have to warn everyone just how bad this place is. Was told the chef was in a bad mood and that was why the food was so bad. No excuse. Wings and fish were way overcooked and should not have been served at all. Music was either too loud or too quiet. Server was nice but did not make up for such a horrible experience. Do not go!
