Pubjelly, a New Oyster and Wine Bar, Lands in Old Montreal | Eater Montreal

"A wine-and-oyster bar next door to the upscale Jellyfish Crudo + Charbon, Pubjelly focuses on apéro and late-night drinking and snacking; after a December soft opening cut short by Quebec’s dining room shutdown, it officially opens Tuesday, February 8 at 5 p.m. Run by chef Mathieu Masson-Duceppe with partners Francis Rodrigue, Roberto Pesut, and Charles Mary (all from Jellyfish), the 70-seat space is outfitted with dark, pub-like woods, leather seating, and suspended lighting inside an over-century-old red-brick building that once served as a railway station. The vegetable-forward small-plates menu includes leek confit with artichoke purée, mortadella, and bread crumbs, and burrata on a bed of avocado, delicata squash, pistachios, and basil; oysters are offered raw or cooked — one roasted with beef marrow and a lemon–white-miso butter, another prepared Carbonara style — and there’s Roman al taglio pizza (full or half, white or red base) with toppings such as potato, pancetta, gorgonzola, onions, and rosemary, or smoked caciocavallo, ’nduja, buffalo mozzarella, and roasted broccoli. Pizza was a natural route because the chef inherited a wood-fire oven from the space's previous tenant." - Valerie Silva

Montreal’s Most Anticipated Restaurants, Fall 2021 | Eater Montreal

"Billed as the 'little brother' to Jellyfish and opening in October 2021 at 600 Rue Marguerite‑D’Youville, Pubjelly is positioned as a more casual wine bar from the Jellyfish team that will serve pizza al taglio, oysters and plenty of avocado‑forward dishes." - Valerie Silva

In 2024, I had my first dinner at Pubjelly and tried their mtl a table menu. I enjoyed it a lot. Don’t know why it took me so long to go back but glad I suggested to meet my girlfriends here tonight, because food was great! Cauliflower and scallops were my favorite 🩵

We had a nice evening at Pub Jelly overall. The food was mostly excellent—the beef tartare was absolutely delicious, and the octopus was also perfectly cooked and very tasty. Unfortunately, the potatoes were a bit of a letdown as they were overcooked, which surprised us since a friend had them before and remembered them being much better. We also tried one of the pizzas, and sadly, it really missed the mark. The one with sour cream just didn’t work for us flavor-wise—I wouldn’t recommend it. As for the service, while the staff was friendly and respectful, the experience felt a bit slow. We waited a long time before being able to order and before receiving our drinks, and we had to remind them about the octopus, which had been forgotten. It may have just been a busy night, but the delays stood out. That said, the highlights on the menu made the visit worthwhile, and we’d consider coming back to try a few different things.

Great table service with regular checks but not excessive. The cauliflower tempura was nutty and perfectly roasted. Very pleasant and not heavy at all. The scallop dish had the most marvelous finger/plate licking sauce; however, the scallops themselves were very small and a tad overcooked (chewy): makes more an expensive plate with main protein on the disappointing side. Octopus dish was rubbery and seriously lacked flavour. All in all, I would go back for the cauliflower and the ambiance...a pleasant neighbourhood spot.

Excellent place in the Old Port, with delicious food and a lively atmosphere. Food: we ordered 4 sharable dishes, each of them were well seasoned and flavors were Bomb. The Burrata was our favorite. Seafood was fresh desserts were scrumptuous. The Dragon Kiss cocktail and the Brassin Bio beers were also top notch. Service: Our server was super attentive and efficient. Food was served quickly and water was already refilled. Excellent. Atmosphere: The terasse was beautiful, on a warm day. Lively place, need reservations. Overall would go again A+++

Started off with the beef tartar and tempura cauliflower and house focaccia. It was the star of the night. The portion was generous enough to share. Had dirty martini it was good. The staff were on point and really nice.

Google
Sister restaurant to Jellyfish which is much cozier and smaller. We've been multiple times and always enjoyed the food and vibe of this place. Meat and fish are always great. The cocktails are delicious. It does get loud on busy nights but not nearly as bad as next door. Highly recommend for a great meal with some excellent service.

Google
Really nice experience there. The waitress recommended us a few dishes and explained to us how it usually goes at Pubjelly and she had a nice attitude. We got around 6 plates and were pretty much full by the end. The drink looked small for the price but it packed quite some punch which is good for the price (40$~ for the cocktail pitcher) The food was superb. Loved the fried cauliflower, a recommendation that the waitress gave us. The pizza at the end was good and is definitely enough to fill one person alone even with half of it. Overall, i recommend this place and would definitely go again.

Google
We very much enjoyed our second destination meal in Montréal at Pubjelly. As it was our last night, we splurged to share a bottle of wine and enjoyed our shared dinner of PEI Oysters, Quebec Snow Crabs, Cauliflower Tempura and Shrimp Focaccia. They call the latter pizza and it was probably our least favorite dish. Service was great as was the vibe. It did seem expensive, but we were still adapting to big city prices!

Yelp
My colleagues and I stopped here for drinks before dinner. We did not have any food but really enjoyed the cocktails. I had some sort of fruit flavored martini. It was so tasty. I wish I could remember what was it. My colleagues also enjoyed their drinks. The waitress was friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I am posting this because I am looking to help anyone that is passing over Pub Jelly because it has few reviews. My wife and I traveled to Montreal for a long weekend tour. We had an early dinner at Pub Jelly and we had such a great experience. Our server was excellent ashe helped us with our menu selections. Amazing carbonara cooked oysters, salmon tartare, the scallops were amazing and we finished it off with the mushroom pizza. The tapas were light and the pizza was a nice finish to satisfy our hunger. Great food, vibe and service! Charming and delicious.

Yelp
OK fellow Yelpers, everyone knows how much I love Jellyfish and some of you know how much I have been looking forward to the opening of Pub Jelly. Wifey and I finally had a chance to check this new place out and my first visit was underwhelming. I'll try to explain my experience first and follow that up with the usual food and service comments. We were greeted warmly and promptly seated. I was seated facing an exterior wall and didn't see much of the space other than some cool soft lighting and a couple of TV's playing the fireplace channel. There is a great mix of music playing a bit too loud to have a conversation so the table conversations were correspondingly loud. Midway through my meal I was already getting that "get me out of here" feeling when the two-top table next to me welcomed a third guest that was seated with his back to me about a foot away. Lap dance, anyone? The party of three was pretty loud themselves and having a good time so I didn't say anything but it ruined what was left of my evening. The menu featured 6 types of raw oysters and a couple of cooked versions, followed by a small plate section featuring mainly veggies and ending with 3 white and 3 red pizzas also featuring mainly veggies. We started with the tuna pastrami which was super salty but tasty, especially with the optional shot of vodka. Next up was the cauliflower tempura with a sour cream and chilli maple sauce, my wife loved this dish. The next service had two dishes: 15 hour fried potatoes and the Burrata. Both of those dishes were great and the standout for the entire meal for me was the Burrata with avocado and pistachio. We were already full but the dinner finished with 1/2 of the potato white pizza and 1/2 of the mushroom red pizza. Service was acceptable although the wine service was under par and I had to ask for the bill multiple times. As I mentioned earlier, I was already wanting to leave so these service nit picks just added fuel to the fire. I get what the owners are try to do here and I'm quite certain other guests will be blown away. I wish I had a better experience to report, I would have been more enthusiastic about my visit had it not been for the seating issue mentioned earlier.

Yelp
My wife and I are visiting Montreal this week, having arrived into town on Saturday. Yesterday we were walking all around the city when we happened upon a restaurant in what seemed to be an out-of-the-way location, but whose outdoor patio was completely filled with what appeared to be locals in the middle of the day. We looked up and saw that the name of the restaurant was Pub Jelly, so we decided to check online quickly to peruse some online reviews. But surprisingly, there was just one review, and not only that, but the online sources said that the restaurant was closed on Sunday! Needless to say, we were a bit confused, so we went inside and inquired as to what was going on. It turns out that although the restaurant had normally been closed on Sunday (and on Monday too, for that matter), just three weeks ago they decided to begin serving Sunday Brunch from 10:00 until 15:00. We looked around and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, so we decided to try it ourselves. As I said, we had been walking around for quite a while (about 6km), so we asked to be seated in the air-conditioned dining room rather than outside. While deciding what we wanted to eat, we ordered a bottle of sparkling water, a glass of wine (Cinsault Fabre) for my wife ($14), and a cafe americano ($4) for myself. For my entree, I ordered the one vegan item: Avocat, hummus, babaghanoush, dukkah et foccacia, for $22. My wife ordered the Wagyu croissant burger, fromage, sauce tartare au caviar, oignons sautes, cornichons maison et oeuf 60 for $33. Both of our meals were absolutely delicious. In fact, everything about our meal, from the atmosphere, to the service, to the food itself, was absolutely fantastic. Now in all honesty, I have no idea how their dinner food or service is, but as for brunch, this was definitely a 5-star experience.
