Public House at the Venetian closes | Eater Vegas

"I watched a conventioneer favorite shutter on the Venetian’s restaurant row when Public House closed a couple of days ahead of schedule after serving through one last Consumer Electronics Show; the gastropub was very conveniently positioned for customers walking from the expo halls, was launched in 2012, and its operators, Gen3 Hospitality, thanked the Venetian and customers for their support." - Bradley Martin

Stuffed mushrooms are excellent. The hot bacon salad dressing is also very nice. The entrees come out very hot which is nice and there's plenty of portion. The French onion soup, unfortunately, tastes like it's canned. Even if they made this weekly BUT from scratch, it'd be so worth it. 6/14 adjustment: fries and fish are dry and badly fried. Salmon is ok but the carrots are not nice. The service this time was POOR. No checking on refills, didn't bring food to us. Who am I tipping here and for what exactly?

My husband and I attended an event at Public House tonight, and were so impressed I had to leave this review as soon we got home. It was a Cocktails by Candlelight dinner event. I told them it was our anniversary, and I believe every single person working stopped by to tell us Happy Anniversary. I did not expect that, and it was such a tender touch that it really made the night special. It was matched by how WONDERFUL the food and drinks were. Absolutely everything that came to our table was cooked to perfection and served with care. Our main waitress (and I'm so sorry I didn't get her name, but she was a younger person with long blonde hair) was so attentive and kind. I asked for a special request due to me not being able to eat seafood, and they were not upset and provided the best pepper pasta ever. I love spice and it was perfect. This was our first visit and we already talked about coming back next week. I didn't mention it, but the vibe inside the place is tops. It's such a groovy atmosphere. This year has been tough on us, and we were overdue for a night out. This was perfect and we can not thank everyone from back of house, front of house, ALL around the Public House enough.

Google
Service was great! Greeted by someone at the bar as soon as we walked. Unfortunately the food was horrible. Crab dip was a small dollap of what tasted like store bought food. No lump crab in it. There was more pita and veggies than dip. The pasta wasn't mixed in the sauce, strange having dry pasta with very little sauce on the bottom. There were big pieces of uncooked tomato with huge pineapple slices on top. Shrimp was overcooked. The dish was very compartmentalized. Threw everything in the trashcan.

Google
Fantastic menu and in a much better location. Service was great- food was fresh and a different spin on the "usual" American menu. We got the bacon pimento cheese flatbread and the pork belly nachos- both were spectacular. Also a decent selection of alcohol-free beer and cocktails.

I decided to give this place one more shot. The first time I ate here, I had two fantastic cocktails (even though my waitress told me they ran out of rosemary sprigs for my rosemary features cocktail) and fish and chips that included mostly inedible fish. I still don’t know if it was overcooked or undercooked. All I know is I was trying to saw through it. Either way, they took it off the bill, so they did me a solid there. Tonight was a first Friday night. My husband and I decided to give it a try. No water, and when they did bring us water, they only brought out one glass for two people. The menu listed citrus dressed greens with my burger but the waitress said that was just a garnish. Okay, fine. My burger came out. No dressed greens even as a garnish. Bun was stale. Burger was subpar. The Parmesan balsamic carrots-weird. Nothing was great. I’m just disappointed in the food and service. Sure, it was busy, but the waitress acted like I offended her. Not my intention ever. The atmosphere is cute but I wouldn’t eat or drink here again. I think having a chef in the kitchen would improve things, especially for the prices. Also, they should have been bett prepared for more business on First Friday. Busy should not mean lower quality.

Google
Okay, love this place. Not a fan of the cocktail menu, but they always have great beers. Food is awesome. Got the reuben sliders last time, and they did not disappoint. Ask for a side of Dijon mustard. Wife got the bangers and mash and was not disappointed. They bring you a glass bottle of water, which I always like. Server did a great job. Don't remember his name, but longer hair and a mustache. Only been twice, can't wait to try more of the menu. Update. Went to the new spot and it was great too. Had the steak, cooked right. The balsamic parm carrots were delicious, too

Google
We had an opportunity to visit the new location of the Public House today. It is right up the street towards the town square and around the corner. It’s located in the old tea room. The place is well decorated and has a cool speakeasy vibe. The menu is greatly expanded. We started with the burrata caprese salad. Our entrees were the shepherds pie which was very cheesy and tasty, the pimento smothered chicken which was super tasty, the beefy baked ziti that was very filling and the pear and Gorgonzola salad that was delightfully healthy. We finally indulged in the peach cobbler and the banana pudding. Both of them were tasty like mom makes. One of the new thinks they told us they were start was a late night speakeasy on Friday and Saturday nights. They were growing their bourbon selection and they have plenty of other spirits to make some really special cocktails. It’s definitely a great place in Springfield that you want to check out!!!

Google
Firstly, we did not realize there was a limited menu on Sundays but wanted to stick around anyway. The prices are pretty steep for a place this far outside of Nashville. For example, the breakfast burger at $18.00 with bagged chips is hardly worth it. But the seared salmon Benedict comes with a whole filet and whole salad at $20.00 which is worth the price. The service was also pretty slow considering there were only about 5 families eating at the time. The staff were nice. We didn’t have any cocktails but the atmosphere was also really nice. All in all, i’d skip for brunch/Sundays and come back during regular menu items to try again.

Yelp
Really cool interior, Greta for lunch or an evening drink. The onion soup was amazing

Yelp
Food was awesome and I feel like this is a hidden gem in Springfield. Their tomato soup was delicious! The service was a little bit slow for a lunch rush but the food was worth the wait!

Yelp
Public House is a very good restaurant in Springfield! I stopped in for dinner on a Friday night and had a great visit. They were busy and service was a little slow at first but once we got our order in things were much smoother. For drinks I ordered a glass of wine (they had a good selection) and my BF had a margarita. We started with the cheese board and it was a large portion and very good with a variety of cheeses, dried fruit and olives. It was so much food we took it to go! I had the Springfield hot chicken salad and also the pimento bacon flatbread. The salad was good with a sweet and spicy sauce and the flatbread was tasty. I probably wouldn't get the salad again but it was good to try and it was a lighter option. The bar and vibe was great and I'll definitely check them out again when I'm back in Springfield!
google avatar

Lacey H.

Yelp
While I do not recommend the burger, I do recommend everything else that I tried. The shepherds pie is delicious, as is the side salad and pimento cheese!

R M.

Yelp
Super quaint place and great food every single time! The staff is super kind and helpful. They have an amazing house salad I get every time
google avatar

Mary A.

Yelp
The food was delicious and made from scratch! The pimento cheese covered chicken, the pimento cheese burger, and the lavender lagoon were our favorites! I loved the design of the inside also!
google avatar

Matthew J.

Yelp
Springfield doesn't have that many options for restaurants but I'm glad that we have this one. The service is good, the dining room has a good hometown vibe and the food is delicious. My wife and I love their Nachos! Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!
google avatar

Ferdinand C.

Yelp
The atmosphere is nice, the drinks are wonderful, and the food was amazing. If you are ever here, try their sunday sampler and their manmosa made me a fan. Im not usually a fan of mimosa, but the manmosa changed my mind. The service were exceptional.
google avatar

Rusty R.

Yelp
They moved up the street from the last time we visited. Food here is always good! She had shrimp and grits and I had the fish and chips. Never disappointed!
google avatar

Drew R.

Yelp
Food is pretty good overall. Server was not great. Wait a literal hour and 45 mins for our food. Will try again soon and change rating if they have their act together.

Lynn L.

Yelp
Excellent foodThe four times I have been there! Great service too. However, one sunday, I called them repeatedly and got nothing on the phone.I was trying to place it to go order. Not sure what happened there.

Cynthia D.

Yelp
Food is amazing! The corned beef nachos were delish! And my husband got the smoked old fashion and it was so so good! He also got the bangers and mashed and he said it was the best he has ever eaten! The place is adorable. It's on the square and is decorated so well! We will be back!

David A.

Yelp
Unfortunately, this is the most inconsistent place I've ever eaten at that's been around as long as they have. After moving to their new place, not having enough people to work there it's very sad. And I won't be going back for a while. Food is inconsistent but the place is clean. The servers are overstressed and on his friendly as they could be, but it's understandable. They don't have enough help. You're gonna have to give it a 2 1/2 star. Maybe try again in another year.
google avatar

Brad N.

Yelp
I ordered the fish and chips for delivery, and maybe that was the problem. The fish was overcooked and soggy, the fries were over cooked And soggy. The salad with bacon dressing was decent. I also ordered the pretzel sticks, they were also way overcooked, pretzel sticks are not supposed to be hard and tough, and waaaayyyy too much salt. They also did not include the malt vinegar as indicated in the menu. That made the fish even more difficult to eat. I couldn't finish even though I was still hungry. Maybe eating in is better??
google avatar

Yelp
It is always good to find a nice local pub. It is off the beaten path, which makes it even better. The food was great. And the service was terrific!
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is supper sweet inside. It's small, full or character, the best bartender and wait staff in town, and has delicious options on the menu. I ate here two nights out of three while in town on business and here are my reviews (sorry, I forgot taco pics). Pimento was better than the spinach (it was just a little runny for what I'm used to); but, grilled pita was better than the bread. So- take your pick. French onion- perfect for cold weather. Grilled Cesar with salmon = bam bam shrimp tacos. I can't judge with was better. Tacos aren't on the menu. They switch up every Tuesday. But this week's were great! On- and the old fashioned and lavender bourbon (buzz?) were great. Really mad I didn't shoot photos of night #2

Yelp
Tiny spot in Springfield, TN. We left the interstate to avoid an accident, and had a good meal here. I had the bangers and mash. Could have used a little more seasoning, but overall good. Mashed potatoes were chunky and well done. My husband had the veggie burger and pub fries. Pub fries were crispy and hot. He enjoyed the veggie burger. We also had pimento cheese and herb toast for an appetizer. I generally prefer my pimento cheese appetizers warm and creamy, but this was served chilled, and still had good seasoning. Drink menu small, a lot of bourbon/whiskey. I had a French 75 that was pretty good. They had various sandwich and pub fare, shepherds pie, as well as salmon, chicken, and pork dishes. Fun detour.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! This place is so quaint and cute, love the ambience. Stephanie the bartender/waitress was so attentive and one of the kindest people I've ever met! She was able to accommodate our large party for my best friends birthday! And the food is delicious and not to mention the drinks! Stephanie makes some mean drinks so delicious! Definitely will be back and highly recommend! I had the fresh catch which was red snapper with mashed potatoes and greens!

Yelp
Met a coworker here for dinner after work one afternoon. Happy medium for us and we were hungry. Location is small and parking is not ideal. Staff was super friendly we started with pork belly. It was delicious and paired perfectly with a sauce. Wasn't thoroughly impressed with drink selection. I had a pineapple rum drink that ended up like a orange juice cocktail or sorts. The burger I ordered was delicious and cooked well. I had heard good reviews from this place but I wasn't too impressed.

Yelp
Food was way over cooked this time. Even after complaining the fries are still dry. Service was good. Games were fun!

Yelp
Great food and service!!! Friendly staff, clean, great beers on tap!!! If you are ever in Springfield do yourself a favor and check it out!!'

Yelp
Stopped here after a crazy storm and this was everything I needed. The space is a little small but it has the perfect homey feeling to it. As we waited for our food we noticed the owner saying hi to tons of people and all on first name basis. I love that small town feel it had. The food was superb! Our meals started with a house salad and I tried their warm bacon vinaigrette dressing...I am still having dreams about it! The salt from the bacon and the feta cheese was perfect paired with the tang from the dried cranberries and vinegar. I had the Shepard's pie and my husband had the fish and chips. The pie was perfect! The fresh herbs on top were the perfect touch. It came out steaming hot and the first bite just melted in my mouth. I loved all of the different spices that were used in this dish. My husband had the fish and chips and it was delicious. The fish was cooked just right. It fell apart at the touch and I loved that they didn't put too much batter on it. It was well seasoned and even crisped up in the air fryer the next day. Hopefully we will be back to try some more delicious dishes

Cherie K.

Yelp
The food was absolutely delicious, and had great service! Their banana pudding was amazing!

Yelp
Ok but lacks a little. Nothing really makes me want to go back. They concentrate heavily on bar

Yelp
Came in here because The depot was very full. They had a few tables that were reserved so I went to the bar open seating. I ordered the local cheese plate as an starter. The cheeses were very good and they went well with the jams provided. As a main I got the "You Brat it up" My only complaint with this one was that they put a bit much caramelised onions on it. All in all great service and a cosy atmosphere. I would return. I did not drink on this visit as I was only passing through the area.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
Grabbed a bite here after a yoga class. What an all around great place! Fast friendly service, welcoming atmosphere = overall great local spot. Everyone at the table ordered a lavender bourbon. Very sweet, but delicious! (Great local beers on tap as well!) Hummus was very good! The ratio is more bread than veggies. And I had the pimento cheese BLT. With a side salad. Both were delicious! The dressing was really good! Will definitely go back to try the shrimp and grits!
google avatar

Phillip S.

Yelp
Nice laid bad small local bar. Beer and liquor. Sitting is bar, table or booth. Good bar tender. Definitely try out if in the area
google avatar

Stephanie M.

Yelp
While known for delicious burgers, sometimes life calls for a salad! My husband and I both got the grilled Caesar salad- mine with chicken, his with salmon. They were amazing! There was such a great Smokey/grilled flavor to the romaine that added a whole level of flavor, along with perfectly seasoned chicken/salmon, dressing, shaved parm, and croutons. Friendly service, great food, we will keep coming back to work through the whole menu!
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
I loved the side salads w/ balsamic vinaigrette! The truffle fries are to die for! Please order 2 truffle sauce! My man loved it. We ordered take out. The only thing I was upset about, was the size of my drink.
google avatar

Heater G.

Yelp
Great little spot off Main Street in Springfield, TN. The bar staff were attentive and friendly. Their drinks were pretty good. I had the pub burger which was cooked to my request and very juicy. My husband had their pimento BLT with their house made pimento and loved it.
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
The food is very different and sooooo GOOD!! Their drinks are AWESOME! Great service! This is one of my favorite places.

Maggie H.

Yelp
Went on Friday evening busy , we got seated right away, food was good, prices reasonable.
google avatar

Tom V.

Yelp
But not a fan of mask wearing servers. Makes us uncomfortable. We are happy dining with normal behavior

Candice C.

Yelp
I had a last minute issue with a restaurant I had planned to use for my birthday party which left me struggling to find a place to accommodate a group of 16. The night before said party Stephanie at Public House agreed to make it work for us, and had no issue splitting checks as needed. The service itself was amazing, the food was really good, and the ambience was so nice and cozy. I appreciate them being so willing to make it happen for me. I highly recommend Public House.

James L.

Yelp
Visited for my wife's birthday, she first looked online to see if the chicken/ Tyme/rosemary dish was still available, and it was. Got there, wasn't busy, waitress says that dish has been gone from menu for 6 months. She orders a chicken Alfredo dish, I ordered shrimp and grits. Service was very slow, food arrived and we ate. Portions were so small I was still hungry when we left. Grits were good but lost on large plate, Alfredo was rather bland. We won't be back. For $45 I either should have been stuffed full or been taking leftovers home for tomorrow's lunch. Should have went to the Depot.
google avatar

Anita M.

Yelp
Tiny pub located in historic downtown Springfield right by Main St and a little side street. The interior is reminiscent of a Greek restaurant with lots of white and blue accent, or perhaps a beachside bar. Not sure the vibes they are going for exactly. We were meeting a friend and sat at the bar. It was $5 burger night so of course that was what we all ordered along with some cold beers on draft. Cute little place, I imagine it would get packed easily. Will be back to try other things on the menu soon!
google avatar

Michele G.

Yelp
Wow..this is a gastropub...great craft beer selection, the food was amazing. Small, quaint place in downtown Springfield. Great music, great service, great food..couldn't ask for more. We just moved here last year from Fort Lauderdale and have been to lots of restaurants..this is one of the best for all around selection of beer, food and service. Definitely coming a lot more often.
google avatar

Steve M.

Yelp
Cozy spot just off the Square.. I ordered Crab Stuffed Shrimp and Grits my wife ordered the Filet. The Shrimp and Grits we're flavorful but the shrimp were very small and dominated by the crab stuffing. The grits are a cream cheese grits not cheddar. The Filet was thin and a little tough and was really a top sirloin not a true filet. It was ordered medium rare but arrived medium well. We returned it and had a better result but since it was a thin cut it is difficult to cook medium rare and still get a good sear on the outside. Steak was flavorful due to the rosemary butter but was a little chewy. The waitress was great and offered a complimentary dessert to make up for the over cooked steak. We plan on returning and enjoyed our visit overall!

Yelp
Oh, dear, oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What happened to this place? On our first visit I thought it was brilliant. Well, the environment is the same the service is nearly as good and it's as comfortable as ever. But, the food...and that's why we go to restaurants...was very poor. I ordered a salad. I received a bowl of dressing, lettuce, dried cranberries and some feta cheese. The lettuce was limp and hadn't been fresh for some time. My wife ordered a mixture containing cloyingly sweet chicken salad, awful hummus (apparently without tahini and seasoning), reasonably good pimento cheese, slimy carrots, which we judged unsafe to eat, and a reasonable side order of mac and cheese. As I always try to accentuate the positive: The coffee and unsweet tea was reasonable and the bag of potato chips was really nice. It seems the kitchen has had some sort of significant failure and I can't see why we would go to Public House again.

George J.

Yelp
A hidden hole in the wall gem! Looking for a new place to have lunch and gave it a try - total winner. The staff is friendly and personable, the food was off the wall amazing and super-reasonable drinks (despite Tennessee's "sin" tax added on). The Shepherd's pie was hands down the best I ever had, covered in cheese and parsley as a variation and so much flavor! It came with a "side" salad that was a large bowl of spring greens, dried cherries, gobs of feta cheese, sesame seeds in a warm vinagrette dressing. Brought leftovers, I could not finish. 11 bucks for a great Old Fashioned made with Larceny bourbon? Count me in for a couple. Will be coming back soon.

Gerard H.

Yelp
The worst watered down craft beer you have ever had. Ordered wings got reheated Buffalo chicken bites and lighthouse blue cheese. Spent more money then I would across the street at the depot. Do yourself a favor go to the depot.
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
Came here for brunch with my family. Fun atmosphere, really good food. The cheese grits were the bomb diggity.
google avatar

Sandi A.

Yelp
Just had our second meal here and absolutely loved it!! My husband enjoys the TN Tobacco Barn libation and I enjoy my Tisdale Moscato. The food both times has been so flavorful, hot and served by great people. Can't wait to go back and try new items. To date we have had the Spicy Crab Dip, Slow Braised Pork Belly, Crab Stuffed Shrimp & Grits, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, French Onion Soup and their salads and dressings complimented each entree. Great pairings!!!

Caroline R.

Yelp
Really good food and great staff. We enjoy going there and watching sports. They have a lot of drink options.
google avatar

Rhonda H.

Yelp
We've had lots of great dining experiences in Springfield and this was no exception. We really enjoyed the service and food. The spicy crab dip with pita bread was delicious. My husband had a burger and I had the lemon salmon. The salmon had a wonderful crispy seare. I'm glad we can add this to the choices of restaurants because we often enjoy short drives to go eat somewhere different.

Andrew B.

Yelp
Rude, slow, expensive, cramped tiny bathrooms, mediocre food. Limited menu options. Limited beer options
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Food is outstanding and very creative, but the staff is always most unfriendly and could really care less if you came in there.
google avatar

David A.

Yelp
My first visit was good and then Shortly Precovid this place was just okay. And now continues to slowly deteriorate to a poor excuse of itself should be. I realize as with all Covid challenges in restaurants are having, poor food quality should not be tolerated even if service can be over looked. The menu is good mix but bad execution is so poor the final product is not worth coming back.

Katherine D.

Yelp
The food here was amazing and the service just as great. The atmosphere was pleasant with dimmed lighting and it wasn't loud. Overall a wonderful experience and we will be returning.
