The place? So cute! The service? Only if you like sassy retort. The food? As white as it gets. I was hoping for an amazing restaurant for where I could have a fantastic dinner with my mom before a show at the Vets. We got a generic hotel restaurant. Pretty in Pink was the best part of the night. That drink? So dang good. The rest? Eh. Lacking. The host was rude and condescending. The waitress while pleasant was MIA. The food took forever an was obviously sitting under a heat lamp. But somehow the fries were underdone. The crabcakes while had great consistency, did not have the flavor to keep it a good dish. The Caesar salad might as well have come from a shake bag. As said before the fries weren't fried enough. My mom said the burger was delish, so I'll give Public that. All in all, won't come again. My mom said she will but it might be for the atmosphere and age group of attendants.

Very nice inhouse restaurant. Steve and 'Ray' were excellent staff and great personalities. My Manhattan was one of the best I ever had. The calamari app was big enough for at least 4-5 to share. Scallops were amazing (great plating) and the cioppino was beautiful. We ate at the bar as all the dinner reservations were taken because of a show next door. Call early!

Several booths remained empty till we finished our dinner, but the front manager told us they were fully booked due to “tons of reservations (which even didn’t look that way)” so we were not able to sit at the booth.

Food: I ordered the $30 shrimp scampi and it was incredibly bland. As far as I can tell it was cooked in salt-less water and then given no additional flavor before being scooped onto my plate in a bathe of warm water. The consistency was good so I took it home and added garlic salt, thyme, and some olive oil and popped it in the microwave and it is now very tasty. The fries were decent and the desserts were delicious, but multiple people in our party found the main dishes subpar. Service: Our waiter was very friendly. Didn't hover (maybe could have hovered a little more honestly but I appreciated that he wasn't checking in on us every .2 seconds) Atmosphere: The atmosphere was really nice! They had great seating for larger parties, the place had a cool vibe, and I loved the window booths.

Google
Great Gatsby New Year's Eve. We didn't receive champagne for the toast nor did we have any wait staff approach with hor d'oeuvres seemed to only be going to the private parties, both were included in the ticket price. Very understaffed at the bar. Enjoyed the DJ. Would have been appropriate to include some 20's music in the mix.

Waitress needs more help but works very hard and cares.. Not the largest portion of chowda but extremely delicious.. Spinach salad had a wonderful balance of flavors..

We went in on a Friday at 2pm, and it was a little dead, which was kinda nice. Received prompt service, our drinks were made well, and the pizza we ordered, the Alex "Numero Uno" was awesome. We had 3 of the craft cocktails (I quite enjoyed the Ghosted) and the aforementioned pizza. Total bill for it all came out to $65. The place looks great too.

Yelp
Back with friends before the symphony. Our server, Lindsey, seemed to remember us.We had booked a table and after settling down ordered drinks. We had different dishes: seared scallops (attractively presented and quite delicious), Grilled Salmon (just right), market salad, whilst I had the calamari and a side of well done fries (also very good), which I could not finish and took almost half of it home. As usual, we enjoyed the meal, the place with its comfortable seating designed to allow for easy conversation. Our server was cheerful and efficient and kept an eye on us. The check came to $164 for the four of us- about par for the course. This time the food was better than the last time, all of which deserved the four stars we gave. I am glad to see it back to usual.

Yelp
Such a great breakfast spot! Our waitress was amazing and offered to mix cinnamon into the batter for me because I mentioned how much I liked it. The ambiance is super nice and the tables are well spaced out!! The pancakes with cinnamon honey butter are absolutely incredible. Can't recommend enough! Also super close to Providence Place Mall. It's in a hotel (I think?) but anyone can eat there and it has its own entrance. Just note it closes until dinner time at 11:00 am!!

Yelp
Remarkably bad pancakes and terrible coffee. Not much open in the area on Sunday in this part of town, but would literally rather stop eating and get trail mix or something in the hotel. The pancakes were rubbery, and I've literally had previously frozen pancakes that had a better consistency and tasted far better. Maple syrup is just corn syrup and they don't know the difference. That always upsets me in New England. Staff was friendly, but rushed with maybe six tables occupied. I'd hate to see this place busy.

John M.

Yelp
Manager is a zero, food is decent, but waitstaff and bartender were great. Manager was rude and clearly wanted to go home on a Friday at 1030. Place filled up after a show at the Vets and he is being obnoxious telling everyone that it was last call walking in from the show. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer apologizing for his poor behavior. If I had this guy as a manager I would quit. He is suppose to be a leader not cutting off tips for his staff because he wants to go home. Without the Vet this place would be a lot quieter. They should cater to the crowds for those events not make them feel like they are disrupting someone's plans to call it an early night. Again not the staff just one guy.

Domenic D.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere. Great service. Steve at the bar has been here for 10 years. Does a great job. Not too many places have a GM that works every day. Christopher is unbelievable always making sure everybody's taking care of. And the food is up to par. I have eaten here a few times because of the events at the auditorium next door. So I can attest to the consistency. Enjoy.

Yelp
What a wonderful evening at the Public Kitchen and Bar. We were seated at a lovely round booth by the very pleasant host and manager and were able to talk comfortably. Our wonderful server, Lindsay was patient and helpful as we tried to decide between a number of menu items. The menu is brimming with a wide array of appetizers including several inviting salads, and pizzas. It was a challenge to make a choice but we decided to share the phenomenal fig and prosciutto pizza, consisting of goat cheese, truffled arugula, caramelized onion, and just the right amount of a honey/ balsamic glaze. It was delightful. Our next course was the perfectly prepared spinach salad. The balance of the generous amount of candied walnuts, gorgonzola, poached pears, and balsamic dressing created a very tasty and healthy treat! And, then, the main event, our entrees, were beautifully presented and equally delicious. My entree choice was spectacular, the house brined pork tenderloin which was served with dijon whipped mashed potatoes and topped with scrumptious sugar snap peas and a pineapple demi-glaze. WOW! Couldn't finish that generous portion, but am really looking forward to tomorrow's meal as is my husband when he finishes his savory Rigatoni al Forno Bolognese with meatballs, and Italian sausage in a pink vodka sauce all baked with Italian cheeses. Although there was little room for dessert, my husband could not resist the key lime pie and as I stole a bite or two, I was quite happy that he did order it!! Great food/excellent chef, lovely atmosphere, and definitely a staff of friendly people.

Yelp
Stopped by Public Kitchen and Bar before a show at the Vets. This was a great experience! Excellent food in a lovely setting. August our server was very helpful and attentive. We definitely will return @

Yelp
Public bar is hidden inside the beautiful Renaissance hotel. The decor is unlike any other restaurant, very cool and modern. I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of white wine and the salmon. Service was very fast and Kristen the bartender was super nice! The salmon came with spinach and fingerling potatoes which were roasted to perfection. I recommend anybody in the downtown Providence area to give this place a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place, I'm surprised it has so many negative reviews! Public Kitchen & Bar is located inside the Marriott Renaissance. The ambience is really classy and the location is convenient to the movie theater, mall, downtown, etc. The cocktail, beer, and wine menu is pretty extensive. I had the white sangria ($11) and it was tasty and decently strong. I wasn't too hungry so I just had a side order of fries ($6), but they do have a vegan option in the form of an Impossible burger. They also have plenty of gluten-free options. Your meal might be pricey if you go for an expensive option like the salmon or steak, but they also have some more affordable dinner options like sandwiches and pizza. The service was great! They were not too busy--seemed to be mostly guests of the hotel--and our server was really attentive. We had a large group and everything went smoothly without a hitch. Public Kitchen & Bar isn't the most creative or unique restaurant out there but it's a solid option for American food and drinks in an upscale setting!

Yelp
The only reason we did not give the restaurant five stars was due to the host, who we later learned was actually the Manager. We stayed at the hotel and came to get take out on a Saturday night, the first person we encountered was rude, dismissive and did almost everything in his power to turn us away. We ended up going to the bar to order takeout and the bartender couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. We returned for breakfast the next morning and the staff was also amazing. Hard to believe that the only person we had a problem with was the manager.

Yelp
Located on the Temple floor of the Renaissance, this restaurant is great! I opted to sit at the bar and I was greeted by a friendly bartender, Kyle. He was so nice and attentive. I ordered a drink as I checked out the vibes of the bar. So cool! Definitely had a speakeasy vibe! The bar was full of road warriors like myself so nice that it was a chill vibe. The food here is delicious too. Even though it's "hotel" food, it really isn't! I got the seared tuna ahi and a side salad. So light and fresh! Love having an easy option when I travel.

Yelp
Waitress needs help but she works very hard.. The Rhode Island chowder was excellent not the largest portion but outstanding flavor.. And the spinach salad had a very nice dressing to it an excellent balance of flavors..

Yelp
After having the opportunity to try two different meals at this hotel restaurant (breakfast and lunch), I can say this place, while nothing phenomenal, is passable as far as hotel restaurants go. They're also unsurprisingly expensive (it's attached to a Marriott, what did you expect?). The breakfast was decent enough. The eggs were fine, though I kinda wish I had gotten them scrambled just to see how that would have turned out. The bacon was crisp the way I like, the hashbrowns were...unexpected. Like those ones you get from the frozen food section of the grocery store, only triangle shaped (okay then?). Unfortunately, the toast was dry. And thick. Speaking of which.. The lunch: my friend got something called "the adult grilled cheese". Though it looked a lot more like bread sandwiches to me. Honestly, I got full just looking at her plate. Of course, it didn't really help that I ordered the double decker; a burger so tall, a guy could get a nose bleed trying to reach the top of the bun. It should have set alarm bells off in my head when they never asked how I wanted my burger cooked. This is usually the sign of, "oh, we cook all our burgers well done like hockey pucks because f*ck you!". As you probably guessed, I never finished that burger. It was superfluous both in size and price, not to mention over cooked and under seasoned. Besides, the highlight of the whole meal was the New England clam chowder. My Gawd!! Between the whole clams (shell and all!) resting cozily inside the well mixed chowder broth, to the freshly cut potatoes, I was one exhilarated Yankee! My friend was equally impressed. So overall, the clam chowder was a 9 out of 10 for me, the breakfast a 7 out of 10, that bread sandwich....eh...I dunno (I wasn't about to shove that many carbs into my pie hole and risk dying of insulin shock), and the burger was like a 3 out of 10. I'm gonna give Public Kitchen & Bar 3 nostalgic Yankees appreciating a savory bowl of fresh clam chowder out of 5. It's fine as a place to eat or get room service from, should you be stranded in your hotel room for whatever reason. Until, that is, you realize The Cheesecake Factory is literally walking distance from the side entrance.

Yelp
A perfect spot for cocktails before a show, great bartenders! Then grabbing a bite to eat in one of the booths overlooking the state house is perfection!

Yelp
TL;DR: For breakfast it is twice the price--but only half as good--as any roadside diner. I have no problem with restaurants in hotels. In fact, I know for a fact they can be amazing. Some of my favorite meals have been in great restaurants attached to hotels. Including one remarkable fancy breakfast at Postrio in SF a long, long time ago, but I still remember those lobster scrambled eggs. That was an expensive breakfast, but worth every penny. If a restaurant is going to offer breakfast at a premium price, it deserves to be rated on a corresponding scale. And it should be representative of what the kitchen can produce at other times of the day. If this had been a cheap roadside dinner, it might have approached a four star experience, based on the quality of the crispy brussel sprout skillet, the beautiful setting, and its overall cleanliness. But even with after a $40 voucher from the hotel, breakfast for me and my two minor children set us back about $60. A large part of that was the tip, since one should tip on the full amount of the original bill before the voucher. And that would have been fine if Public were able to deliver on a fine dining breakfast experience. However, not only were my daughter's over medium eggs under done, we weren't served our three very simple egg dishes all at the same time. Plus, there is no getting over the tower of plastic food-service Smucker's jelly packs on the table. More than anything else, those tell you that despite the cloth napkins, and posh surroundings, you're in a diner. But any New Jersey diner could outperform the Public Kitchen breakfast service. The good news is that Public has plenty of room for improvement. But based on this meal, I would be reluctant to return for lunch or dinner.

Yelp
I came here for some dinner and drinks before seeing a show at the venue next door. The place was so busy and standing room only, but that was expected with a show that night. My friend and I were able to order drinks and food and get a seat in their lounge area. We got the chicken tenders and eggplant chips and both were good! They were well cooked and had tasty seasoning. The bartender was friendly and quick to bring us or drinks and food. I will say that it was a bit expensive for the amount of food you got as well as the drinks, but its in a nice place and good location. Overall it was good, I'd recommend a stop in but be prepared to pay a bit.

Yelp
Stayed at the Renaissance and went down to this restaurant multiple times during my weekend stay in Providence. Convenience was a driving force behind heading down to eat the Public Kitchen. Very impressed with the food and service at this restaurant. Hands down, favorite meal here was the Brussel sprout skillet. Just not what you'd expect for a breakfast skillet, but I loved everything about this dish. Never was it busy here and I ate here so much through the weekend. No complaints and would recommend this place without reservations

Yelp
Enjoyable, homey food, easy, casual, tasty. Friendly staff and a great setting. One of the few in-hotel restaurants done well.

Yelp
We had a nice pre-theater dinner that exceeded our expectations. First, the service was excellent - our waiter was very nice and outgoing, and helpful in speeding our order along to allow us to make an event we were attending. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine and shared a pizza with pesto, prosciutto arugula and Parmesan. The pizza was good but not Al Forno level - the crust was good but a tad bland, and the combo of pesto arugula and prosciutto, while not original, was a nice medley. We had a glass of Pinot and Italian wines that we both liked. The restaurant is part of a hotel but it felt like its own space with great views of the statehouse and nice decor. The rest of the menu looked interesting, for example they have a lamb burger and an Impossible burger that I might order. The beer list was decent with a variety of craft options, although I wouldn't go here specifically for their beer. Overall we had a great visit, and if we found ourselves back for whatever reason I would not feel bad about it.

Yelp
Had dinner here tonight. Absolutely delicious and service was outstanding. All the staff work together as a team. Thank you again. We definitely will be back.

Yelp
While the food was decent, regrettably the General manager Christopher Moore was about as obnoxious and pompous as they come. We had made reservations for this past weekend to celebrate a major milestone and had requested to be sat in a quiet corner. Upon arrival, we were sat at a table that was closest to the bar and to the entrance of the restaurant, which was terribly loud due to several tipsy/drunk women screeching by the bar. My father is hard of hearing which is why we originally requested to be sat further away from the general crowd. After a certain point it got so loud that no one could hear one another at the table, so we requested to be moved - which is a fairly normal request at any restaurant. My partner ended up going to talk to Christopher, to which he was met with a belligerent attitude and was blatantly rude to him and denied our request even after we mentioned that the reason we would like to move is because of my fathers inability to hear us from 1 ft away. We had spoken to our waitress several times at this point and she unfortunately was not able to move us due to Christophers refusal. At this point everyone was upset. We tried speaking to Christopher again, but then he proceeded to yell at us telling us that he has 100 + reservations that night and then proceeds to order all of us to sit down as if we were 5 year old's and then storms away. At that point we were ready to leave. Thankfully, our angel of a waitress Lindsey was able to eventually move us to a quiet table in the back that was open the whole time and is just kept empty for potential reservations. We were there for 3 + hours and noticed that there were at least 1-3 tables open throughout the night so there was no way he could not have accommodated us. Also, we would have been okay with the situation if he had approached us in a kinder manner but instead Christopher decided to go the most abrasive path possible. We went out for a celebration dinner and this is the kind of service we were met with. I have never been one to have issues at restaurants especially with the staff as I have worked in restaurants before and usually side with the staff in many instances but this was absolutely absurd. The one good thing I will say is that our waitress Lindsey was a sweetheart and did her best to accommodate us the whole night and very personable and nice. This situation was not her fault at all and I wish she was not caught up in the middle of it. Overall, I do not foresee myself going back to this establishment as for me it is not worth it to go back and relive the nightmare that is Christopher Moore.

Yelp
Stayed at the Renaissance downtown providence which was very nice. But their restaurant was sub-par. Drinks were great from bar although the bartender seemed stuffy. Food was too fluffy and lacked flavor. Especially the lobster pasta. Wouldn't attend the restaurant again. Better to venture out of the hotel. Very disappointing!
google avatar

Rick L.

Yelp
I have been to the Public Kitchen and Bar quite a few times since I always stay at The Renaissance when I have business in Providence. I have found the food solid, but nothing spectacular. I have never gone full in all the dinners, but have tried the apps and the pizzas for a quick fix. I actually find the breakfast very good...always solid with thick cut bacon (if that's your thing) and hearty taters.... The cocktails really depend on which bartender you draw. If you draw someone great they can dazzle you with their mixologist skills. If not...well you will see them shaking a Manhattan vigorously when you asked for it Up.....just stir that thing. All in all...a very solid hotel bar / restaurant if you are staying at the Renaissance. I'm just not sure if I would go out of my way if I were staying more down the hill....

Yelp
I loved the atmosphere of this parlor-style restaurant, located in a hotel downtown. We had a party of 10, and they had plenty of room to accommodate us. The menu offered a wide variety of food, with something for everyone - whether they wanted some local seafood or healthier fares. I ordered the salmon, which was cooked perfectly and served over a vegetable puree with a side of sweet potatoes... yum!! The portion sizes were large, but I enjoyed it so much that I ate the entire thing. We opted to share desserts as well and thoroughly enjoyed the walnut banana cake which included a carmelized banana. The dessert was the perfect size to share between four of us! The only negative to the restaurant was that service was slow, but we weren't in a rush, so it didnt affect us.

Yelp
Hotel restaurants are quite often hit-or-miss. Fortunately for me, Public Kitchen & Bar stands out as its own fantastic establishment with great eats and fantastic staff. I'm also often skeptical about getting lobster (or seafood in general) in a place that doesn't normally specialize or focus on the cuisine and chooses a more generic menu. But I was incredibly pleased with my lobster eggs benedict for breakfast. I poked my egg and the perfect, runny yoke ran beautifully into a delicious mix with the tasty hollandaise sauce. My waitress and the Matre'D were both attentive and helpful. I was checked on every 5-10 minutes, and with immediate responses to my requests. I'm a believer, and I'll be back!

Yelp
Nice spot for lunch in the renaissance hotel. Modern yet simple decor inside with booth seating available. Free valet parking available. Got the Thai spicy noodles and the scallops both of which were pretty good. Risotto balls were bit heavy. Thai noodles did have an element of spice but not as i expected. Service was good. Overall good experience.

Yelp
Dined here as a large work group, and ordered a little bit of everything- some things were good and some were subpar. Calamari appetizer- just okay. It came on a bed of arugula with some pickled veggies and squid ink, but really, it had me searching for the marinara. The portion was plentiful and the chunks of calamari were huge! Super Food Salad- pretty yummy with quinoa, barley, goat cheese, nuts and I added the salmon. It's downfalls- barely any greens and the salmon was pretty raw. I also found it odd that the waitress asked us how we would like the salmon cooked and our options were raw or medium?! Many of my coworkers loved the Salmon entree with roasted root vegetables and it looked like a perfectly delicious and colorful plate. The duck entree came out VERY raw...just an FYI to order your food cooked!

Yelp
My sister picked this location for her 30th birthday pre game, we chose to sit in the lounge for photos. It was like the photos pictured but we made it work. The bartender/ waiter was very nice & he was attentive. His service was on point, but unfortunately the food was not. The calamari was average. The chicken wings were under cooked and huge, the tenders were burnt & had no flavor, & the truffle fries had nothing but parsley on them and were wilted. My sister made the manager aware, after we mentioned it to the waiter. He told us we should've mentioned it before paying but offered a round of drinks. definitely overpriced for subpar food, but if Kyle is working (I believe that was his name) at least your drinks and service will be great.

j n.

Yelp
I had breakfast here twice when staying at the hotel. The food is overpriced and mediocre, at best. A bonus is the loud, obnoxious waitress you can hear all over the restaurant complaining about the music. I had a carry out dinner here one evening. They refused to honor their own website's prices without me pressing the issue. Needless to say, I'm done with this place.
google avatar

Joni J.

Yelp
Were "greeted" by a snarky maître d, who refused to stamp my valet ticket until AFTER dinner. After seating us it took 15 minutes to get a glass of water and the waiters attention. We ordered a fancy Italian wine....which it took 20 min to discover they didn't have. We next ordered a different bottle which the waiter returned 10 minutes later to confirm...with the wrong bottle. This circus went on for 45 minutes. Three of us sat there neglected and starving in an uncrowded restaurant while our waiter ignored us. One would think a group that began their order with high end wine would have gotten the waiters attention-but quiet the opposite. We finally just walked out but by 9:30 pm nothing else was really open so we had pizza and rage for dinner....
google avatar

Brandi M.

Yelp
Came in after a couple hours at the mall And needed to get away from the crowds of people, great cocktails, Cold guineas on draft and a nice quiet dimly lit back room to relax and get away from the stresses of the day. Thyme's up cocktail was super refreshing and hit the spot. If the cackling lady wasn't over at the bar it would have been even better. This this comes up under quiet bars in Providence if you search, but on this particular evening, it was not so quiet. But thankfully there was a little retreat in the back room
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Waited at entrance for over 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge our presence and seat us. There were maybe 4 tables with customers. The food was over priced and nothing special. I ordered the Cobb Salad. It was small and not worth 15 dollars.

J K.

Yelp
This restaurant is not adequately staffed and service is quite poor. Food is fine - it's okay but not worth putting up with the poor service. At breakfast, they typically have a 15-20 minute wait to get a table even when the restaurant is only 25% full. However, because the hostess doesn't maitain a presence in the front of the restaurant, other customers pass by those who are already in line and get served first. They also have coffee for sale in the front but no one to take the payment. Then when confused customers take coffee without paying, they yell and chase them down. Best avoided until they can increase staffing levels

Liza T.

Yelp
Good food and service. It was so busy before 8pm but then eased up significantly as people left for the show time starts. The stuffed jumbo shrimp was delicious.

Yelp
I went to the Public Kitchen and Bar on Christmas for lunch and it was a great experience. I had the capital burger cooked medium with Truffle Fries and it was excellent. One of the tastiest burgers I have had in Providence. This was my first time eating here and I will definitely be back soon! Cocktails were creative and very tasty.
google avatar

Don W.

Yelp
I'm usually not a fan of American hotel restaurants, but the Public Kitchen is an exception. We ate dinner there on two nights but that wasn't what we expected to do at all. One night was because the weather kept us in the hotel, the other night was because we were in town during the last night of Water Fire and every nearby restaurant worth going to was full. I liked it way more than I expected. The food and pitchers of sangria were really good, both servers were terrific, the restaurant seemed clean, and we were able to get a table. If I lived in Providence, I could see eating at the Public Kitchen even though I wouldn't be staying in the hotel and that's something I can rarely say. Could anything have been better? Only a little bit if I want to be picky. The calamari could have been a little less salty, the tagliatelle could have been a little bigger, and the dessert menu needs a cheesecake. But none of these things would stop me from going back so I can't take any points off. I don't understand the bad reviews, maybe Public Kitchen doesn't do breakfasts as well as dinners or maybe they had problems a while ago that hurt the average.
google avatar

Jose C.

Yelp
Maybe it was an off night, but this place was terrible for dinner. I ordered a burger too thinking it was a safe choice. i should've walked to the Cheesecake Factory instead. I don't recommend this place.

Abram M.

Yelp
Public kitchen and bar is totally awesome. The wait staff was good, the vibe was great, and it was exactly what I was looking for on Valentine's Day. The food was good, and the calamari was well done. They brought it out in a quickly manner, nice and hot, with great tasting sauce and delicious peppers. My burger was good too, it wasn't LIFE CHANGING, but it was solid. I also had it with a side of truffle fries. I'm sort of a Master of all French fries so I'm pretty critical of them, especially truffle fries which are my favorite. These were okay. I wish they were a little bit crispier, that would have made a world of difference. The male bacon Brussels sprouts were cool, and tasted good. And the flat bread with fig jam and prosciutto was also amazing. I'm not always in providence, but when I am, I can see myself returning here with maybe a group for some good food. It's in walking distance of the mall, which made our Valentine's Day plans really easy since we went to Dave and busters first. I would recommend this place to others, and the seating can be perfect for date nights. They have semi circle booths by the window with some comfortable pillows for ambience. I had a great time. So if you want to do some shopping and then grab some food, and the mall restaurants aren't doing it for you, take a little walk outside and you'll find yourself here.

Yelp
It's in the Renaissance Hotel. You can just walk downstairs to the restaurant. We originally came here for breakfast but the menu wasn't too impressive. We ended up ordering things from the lunch menu. We ordered: Super Food Salad ($9) - I remember it had farro or some sort of oats, pomegranate, spinach, blackberries, some nuts with champagne vinaigrette. Vinaigrette was watery. Overall it didn't taste good. I was expecting more for $9 salad. Public Clam Chowder ($9) - It came in a small plate/bowl. Portion was small. It was bland and watered down. Did I set my expectation too high? I thought you couldn't go wrong with a bowl of clam chowder in the New England. Fig N' Prosciutto ($14) - This was actually the only one we liked, even though I thought it would come with real figs instead off jam. Overall the place looks nice but the portions are relatively small for the price and service is slow. Not sure if I'd come back again.

Yelp
So far, I've only been inspired to write one review. This is my second. I'm "stuck" eating in a "hotel" restaurant...on business...by myself...on Valentine's Day. I decided to explore the Valentine's Day Tasting Menu. For one. A four course adventure...with a surprise amuse-bouche! The single bite caramelized onion/creme fresshe/micro-green on a puff pastry was, simply, amazing. How could the rest top this? For course one, I chose the Rhode Island Mushroom Tart. What's special about that? Well...a delightful combination of tender mushrooms, a crisp but light tart, a crunchy sherry sabayon, combined with a roasted garlic custard THAT WAS PURE GENIUS!! Earthy, garlicky, crunchy...all of my favorite food groups. Course two was a pasta with smoked salmon, radicchio, basil, plum and pistachios. Basic, right? I thought the surprise star would be the plum, but it turned out that the surprise star was the radicchio! It was shaved and caramelized, adding a depth and dimension to a pasta dish that was anything but basic. Phew! Time for course THREE!! MEAT... with more onions...and weeds. WHAT??? A ribeye that has been aged 120 days in beeswax. Ok, that alone should have the chef committed to an asylum. Except it might be the most amazing meat I've ever tasted. More...but different (red this time) caramelized onions, paired with dandelion greens (the weeds). This is where I finally criticize something so that you don't think I'm the Chef's brother. The dandelion greens were hard to cut. Suck it up, buttercup. The flavor was fantastic. And then, there were the sides. The crispy Brussels sprouts were probably the most "normal" part of the meal. However, you should probably plan on going to church and making confession after eating the "maple vinegar and pomme aligot (cheesy mashed potatoes). And then, I exploded. But wait, there's COURSE FOUR!! Lava cake. Blah, blah. Except freakin' AMAZING!! Not the intense dark chocolate, but tempered by a cream cheese mousse and raspberries (to make it healthy ). Chef Tyler looks like he's 14 years old, but apparently has some amazing inspired ideas and cooking chops. This was a meal to remember. With an incredible supporting cast by the server, May, and the host, Lyndon, this was an incredible experience. Do yourself a favor. Be the first kids on your block to voluntarily go to a "hotel" restaurant. And then, tell all of the other people on your block!

Yelp
Came here for lunch with a friend and we decided to get 2 small plates and 2 sides to share. While the truffle fries were good, the spicy noodles surprisingly tasty, and the calamari nicely and lightly fried, it was the brussel sprouts that really impressed us. There were by far the most delicious Brussels sprouts I've ever had in their sweet, tangy sauce. We were also very pleased with the layout. It's really beautiful down there with interesting booth tables and great lighting. Definitely would like to come here again sometime.

Yelp
Where to begin with this dinner? Had reservations for 2 on Valentine's Day Greeted by the manager and host who brought us to a table for 2, with a beautiful view of the state house! We were very lucky to have the wonderful "May" as our server for the night. She is an example of "great customer service". Kind, funny, helpful, and pleasant. She catered to us the whole night. They have a wide range of cocktails to choose from. I had "Rolling in the deep!". Ok, I had 2 of them, they were great. The food was delicious, and there was so much to choose from. It was delicious, fast, and fresh. I gave them the highest rating, because in top of all this, they had valet parking, or you could simply park closely on your own. Anyone looking for great food, drinks, and top notch customer service, look no further. Too enjoy the whole experience, ask for May, you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
We were staying at the Renaissance and decided to get breakfast at Public because it was part of the hotel, could be charged to the room, and thus give my partner more points because bonvoy points are life. The restaurant didn't have many folks in it and that should have been a hint. Everything was eh. My egg white omelette was underdone and incredibly greasy. That confused me so much. There was Brie in the omelette as well and it was slimy and congealed. My partners breakfast was also leaving something to be desired. I couldn't figure out how they were so average. Even the coffee was watered down and not the best. Overall I think they're an ok choice if you're looking for something quick in the hotel but I think, as the guy at the desk told us, there's much better choices in Providence if you're visiting and looking for great food choices.

Yelp
This is a fucking horrible restaurant, and it is a shame that such a classy hotel hires a bunch of imbeciles running their restaurant. The fish was severely undercooked and the halibut tasted like a bar of soap. The salad had no dressing and the glasses for the sangrias were so sticky that I am quite suspicious if the bartender wiped his nose with them. No purée for the fish and the steak tasted like satan himself. It literally tasted like they threw the steak into the fire for ten second and then put it on a plate. The waitress was extremely rude and had the nerve of telling me that we've been "ONLY" waiting for 41 minutes instead of 50. Overall I find the service most disappointing. Though I don't like to swear, but God Help me I'll file an angry complaint to the Starwood Group's management regarding this C**T. I bet that you will get a better service and better food at the Cheesecake Factory.

Yelp
What is there not to love?! The decor is absolutely gorgeous. There is a fabulous room off to the back with beautiful lounge style seating, huge mirrors, and lovely wall decor. The restaurant is also beautifully designed. From the bar to the dining area, they pulled no punches on the visual aesthetics. Now on to the food, I had the cauliflower steak with toasted bread one night and the margarita pizza another the drinks were also wonderful (sadly I cannot remember the name). I also had warmed cookies that were freshly baked and delicious. The staff were friendly and accommodating as well. Overall a great experience.

Yelp
We were just having pre-theater appetizers so I convinced my BF to try this restaurant in our hotel rather than driving somewhere, as the pickings around the theater in Warwick look slim. Very happy with this choice - would have given 5 stars if we'd tried more than two apps. The Vegetable Fritto Misto and the heritage pork plate were both delicious and unusual. We'll come back for breakfast tomorrow. And I don't usually like to double back. This was good enough for an exception.

Yelp
Ate here before a show at the Vets auditorium next door, Cellar pub in the Renaissance hotel, Great atmosphere. Great server, Lindsy. Food not so great. Espresso martini not quite right. Thai wings crispy . Ok , not outstanding. Arugula salad, huge cuts of purple onion. Inedible . Thai noodles with shrimp. Noodles cooked well & spicy. Jumbo shrimp over cooked to rubber. Sprouts under noodles, They don't belong on this dish. Mussels in a Alfredo sauce with more sprouts. Alfredo sauce ? Be creative in your home, not here, Did not work. Disappointing experience. Nutty Irishman for dessert, hot as requested. Lindsy excellent all night. No whip cream in restaurant for desserts. Unacceptable. We will return for the convenience factor while attending a show. More strategic in our menu selection. Maybe a burger. Hold the sprouts

Yelp
Slow service. Waited half hour for server to take order. Server appeared to walk in circles with coffee and water but never came to the table. When we tried to get her attention, she kept walking and held up her finger as if to say, "WAIT"!Waited over an hour for food.

Yelp
We had breakfast at Public Kitchen & Bar twice this past weekend, as we were staying at the adjacent Renaissance Hotel. Here are my thoughts: Ambiance: While nicely decorated and quite clean, this restaurant was empty both times we visited. Maybe it's busier at dinner? Service: Our waitress (same waitress both mornings) was super friendly but definitely overworked. I think she was handling nearly the entire restaurant, which meant that things moved at a slower pace. Food: Totally mediocre. Nothing was remarkable, or better than what one could find at a Denny's restaurant for half the price. That includes the pancakes, the oatmeal, and the omelets. Location: Obviously people who want to eat breakfast prior to the 11 am Cheesecake Factory opening time (or 10 am, depending on the day) have few other breakfast choices. So for Public I guess the location is great! Prices: $9 for oatmeal and $4 for a banana...if that tells you anything. Bottom Line: My 9-year-old pointed out that I could have brought a packet of oatmeal with me to the hotel, found hot water and a banana at CVS, and made myself the same breakfast for maybe $2. Sometimes she's a whole lot smarter than I give her credit for.
