I love this tea shop! The staff is very informative and the owner is very passionate about tea. I came a couple of months ago and bought a bunch of tea based off the recommendations of the staff. I love the Bedtime tea - it’s become a nighttime staple. The Earl Grey is absolutely amazing. I came back for a refill and was told to keep the canister as it’s meant to be refilled. Love this! Definitely recommend to those who love tea and want great quality.

The space and decor is absolutely gorgeous. The owners clearly have an eye for detail and put a charming atmosphere together. While browsing the upstairs space which has most of the teas and tea ware, we were surprised to be told that pictures were not allowed. Why a shop would have this kind of policy when they put so much effort in making it look so good is beyond me, especially since there are tons of pictures online from other people. Being interested in purchasing both tea and maybe even tea ware to add to my collection, I asked a few questions and was simply handed a menu and told tea tastings were downstairs with zero other information. The case which had most of the tea pots for purchase (under the counter) had the lights off and even though I was kneeling down to get a closer look, the person behind the counter did not think it necessary to light up the case so that I could actually see what I was looking at. Oh well, so be it, I then took an interest in the various teas they had. I picked up a sampler box of puerh teas containing about 6 or so samples which I thought would be great as I’d be able to come back to purchase larger quantities if I found them to my liking (if you know anything about puerh, you know they all have very distinct profiles), however, the person behind the counter had no idea what the teas were, their name, provenance, or anything really that could identify one tea from the other. I was told the sample box was “not the highest quality tea but still decent”; that was it. The entire experience, from being scolded for taking a photo to the clear lack of attention to the only two customers in the shop and the utter lack of information on the main product the shop is named after left a sour taste in my mouth and we ended up leaving without purchasing anything. There are plenty of tea shops in New York that care for their product and customers. While the shop is trendy and “instagram worthy”, if you actually care about tea, you’d be better off going someplace else.

Had a great experience here. My sister and I went in to enjoy some quality tea and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere—very zen, unique, artistic. It’s well curated. We inquired about the tea menu and the staff took the time to explain the various tea varieties and options. We selected a tea from a 100+ year old tea tree. We carried the expectation that we’d get a sampling of teas based on our experience of other tea shops, but only had a single tea here which we still really enjoyed. While some of the teas are pricey, the prices are listed so not sure why people are upset by it.

Wonderful experience. Learned a lot about tea and really recommend this experience if you want a meditative and calm experience. I asked to take a photo of the tea offering space. Overall very respectful experience if you come in with respect.

Immaculately curated space with high quality teas at all price points. Well worth a visit if seeking a respite from the bustle of NYC or if interested in gong fu steeping. This venue stands out as a singular gem in a city that expects rarefied offerings as commonplace.

First, the photos of the place are dated and do not reflect its transformation into a true art space over the years. Second, ignore one star comments. This place set its boundaries and demands respect for a reason. After 6-9 ceremony cups of uninterrupted puerh bliss you’ll get it.

I love this tea shop! The staff is very informative and the owner is clearly passionate about tea. I bought a bunch of tea a while back based off recommendations of the staff and I loved everything I bought. The Bedtime tea is lovely. It has become a staple at night. The Earl Grey tea is incredible and such great quality. I came back for a refill and found out that the canisters for the earl grey are reusable and they'll give you a bag so you can just refill your tin. I asked the owner for another black tea and he recommended his favorite - Ancient Wild Red. I'm excited to try this new tea in the morning! Definitely come here if you want quality tea with staff that knows what they're taking about!

What a horrible horrible establishment. My sister tried to go for a ceremony at 9:30 am on her birthday and she arrived AT 9:30 and was not allowed in. But not just that, the lights were off, the door was locked and no one answered. she called and knocked and no one would let her in. Later on, we called to try and get a refund and whoever answered was so horribly rude and completely unwilling to be even a little bit compassionate or understanding. He revealed that the ceremony did happen and he SAW her, HARD her knocking and calling and didn't let her in. He also refused to give her a refund. Additionally, he kept refusing to "have this conversation" with her. Despite it literally being his job. He was so cruel and inconsiderate. She spent money on this, arrived on time, was not let in, and was then ridiculed and denied the decency of even having a conversation. Do not support this business.

Awesome service! So glad we stopped in when visiting NYC. Stopped in for Tea service and ended up also grabbing some Puerh and a travel tea set

Friends and I stopped in because we thought it looked interesting but was met with unfriendly and condescending staff. I asked the staff a simple question about the shape of a certain teapot. The old man in the glasses responded with an answer that was not only unhelpful but also rude and condescending. In a self important tone as if he looked down on me for not already knowing the answer. Didn't feel the need to engage further despite having every intention of learning more about tea.

Interesting spot. They of course have a great selection of teas, tea-making supplies, etc. However, the thing that is driving down my rating is the staff. There was an older gentleman that was very pretentious and condescending. I feel like you should only go in there if you really know what you want, or he has no patience for you. Also, I thought it was odd they do not offer honey to sweeten your tea, but they have it for sale in the shop... (°ヘ°)

Wonderful tea shop with an excellent atmosphere and an owner generous with his kindness. I would definitely recommend reserving a time and soaking in the experience Regarding the tea - the shop has a wonderful selection of Chinese teas, ranging from daily drinker teas to some rather high end aged puer. As someone who drinks puer several times a week, i can attest to the quality. Lastly, the clothes and pottery sold there all possess some tea influence. This shop captures an essence of tea lifestyle that is rare to find in the US.

I had a unique and unforgettable experience. The tea shop and tea room offer such dreamy and zen ambience. Diving into the Japanese traditions of tea serving and experiencing it in such way was something special. The owners were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and truly passionate about what they do. Lots of tea varieties available. You order upstairs and they bring your tea to the basement for you. There is limited seating with space for about 8. The atmosphere aims to be zen downstairs. No electronics are permitted. There is music and books which encourage meditation. We had the golden Assam tea. The staff was very helpful.

This shop sells fake wares claiming to be antique and artisan. The owner of the shop knows nothing truly about the origin of his wares and upsells subpar quality wares as exclusive for overly exorbitant values. I'm pretty sure his Yixing pots were all bought on AliExpress.com and he's upselling them by 10x to get a nice profit off them. I made the mistake of mishandling an item by accident and was prompted to then buy the ware which had a minimal chip and had a purely cosmetic, not functional, defect. I was gifted tea for the incredible purchase, but the teapot pours poorly and even if I were to brew the tea in another way (which I can't because the 1 oz bag (~28gr) of Puerh was just enough to brew a 300ml yixing teapot) it wouldn't change that for it being "organic" it was a weak type that the proprietor is upselling as well. My advice, go to Yunnan Sourcing, https://yunnansourcing.com/, or any other reputable shop to buy wares and good quality tea instead charlatan's "boutique" which is beautiful to see, especially his lower level which is like a japanese tea room and I assume he does tastings here from time to time (if free, and you live nearby-why not? but don't buy). BTW I'm not a person from that website or brand, I'm just an avid tea drinker who knows what the value of things are, and when I'm being ripped off, and you will be too if you buy anything in that store...

One of my favorite experiences on a recent trip to Brooklyn. The space has two floors. The entrance level is a little tea store shop. Downstairs in the "basement" is a beautiful space with floor to ceiling cement walls. The aesthetic is serene and calming. The space is very small with only three tea tables. We did a gungfu style drinking tea over a couple of hours.

Its really hard to know where to begin. There really wasn't anything positive I can say about this place. I think the concept was cool to combine a clothing design studio and tea shop, but the tea shop is a horrible representation of tea culture. 1.) The prices. This is inexcusable, especially considering the quality of the tea. When I am charged 20 bucks to drink one pu-erh, I don't want a pu-erh tea bag. This is shocking and would turn anyone off from ever trying it again. Their other teas were stale and way over-priced. For a place that is trying to pretend to know stuff about tea; I am shocked and appalled that they would think serving Pu-Erh tea in a tea bag is acceptable. 2.) The store front is very claustrophobic and is very difficult to tell how much things cost, or what is for sale. It took about 10 minutes for me to find the tea menu, and another 10 minutes to finally get my order placed. 3.) The worst part was the tea themselves. I love tea. I study tea. I have even worked on a tea estate. What this tea shop is doing is close to highway robbery. The quality of teas was mediocre at best (think Teavana), and were clearly bulk ordered from some wholesaler, and have since sat on the shelves getting stale and musty (not talking about the Pu-Erh here, as at least that can handle the aging!). Pu-Erh tea is popular at the moment. And with a tea shop named Pu-Erh, you think they would know what they are doing, and are able to do it well. My advice would be to forget all the other teas they are trying to sell, and focus on just Pu-Erh. That would be a much more appropriate shop for their name, and it would be better to learn and focus on a single tea, than do a half-ass failure on everything. As it stands, this tea shop is in my worst 5 tea shops I have ever been to. I honestly would have preferred to be in a Starbucks because at least then I wouldn't have to deal with pretentious nonsense.

Select your tea in the shop, head downstairs, take off your shoes in exchange for the conical felt slippers, and take a spot on the floor as the shop owner comes to brew and serve your tea. Everything about the interior curates a space of comfort and peace - from the furniture, textiles, the little work area that made it feel like the in-house crafts(wo)man had just stepped out for a break. It's the kind of environment that's conducive to catching up with an old friend for hours or meditating your way to introspection.

I live nearby and was absolutely delighted when I first walked into this beautiful space. I even texted my family to say next time they visit, we should do a tea tasting here. However, a very odd exchange with the owner left me feeling bad for the rest of the afternoon. I ordered an iced tea and sat outside to drink it and enjoy a book. 20 mins later the owner came out to say they have a to-stay service for next time; great, I assumed this was an environmental point so we could avoid wasting plastic. However, 5 mins later he comes back out and tells me it costs more money to stay and he only has this one chair and he expected me to go already. I'm just like, welp, I guess I'm going then! I would have happily paid more had I been given the option of to-stay service when I ordered. I just really didn't appreciate being shooed away, especially since there was no one else waiting, I had just tipped $2 on my $5 ice tea, and I thought we had had such a nice exchange earlier. Won't be coming back, sadly.

Was planning on staying 5 min for tea to go, but wound up staying about an hour chatting with the owner. We had multiple steeps, laughed, talked tea, life, & everything in between. Such a vibe. Had a matcha & Pu-erh & purchased a great tea text. Thank you & I can't wait to return with friends & family.

Beautiful and quite place in hectic Williamsburg. I was rushing to pick up a quick cup of tea and go back to my busy life, but I couldn't resist the beautiful and the comforting atmosphere. They have great selection of tea.

I wasn't much of a tea person, but after I tried their matcha on a whim - and loved it - I try to make a pit-stop whenever I'm around. Last weekend, I stopped in to get some hot Chinese tea. It was snowing and I was cold, plus a little hung over from the earlier night. The tea maker did a really cool ceremony of washing the vessels in hot water, and steeping the tea in a miniature kettel, filtering it through some kind of funnel and serving it. It was fun to watch. I sat on the desk on the top level, in a small chair, sipping my tea and watched the sun melt away the snow on Grand street. Apart from the chais, there's cute , albeit very dainty things in the store, if that's your thing. Not the best place to lounge in for hours with your laptop, but good to take away and brew at your own casa.

Unique selection of quality teas (white/green/matcha) and tea tools and accessories. The place includes a downstairs where tea is served. The venue is calm and aesthetically pleasing. Good service - patient, informative, and non-pushy.

This tea place is so tranquil and cool. Our tea was a bit on the strong side but great! My husband and I enjoyed the downstairs area especially. You take you shoes off and enjoy the soft sounds while drinking tea traditionally. I highly recommend!

Knowledgeable sellers and world class tea. Get a puerh and have a proper ceremony downstairs for the true experience.

Just walked in here to buy a tea gift and stood at counter and was ignored as the worker (owner?) chatted with friends and looked annoyed a customer was there. I then left and sent my husband in and they did the same thing. Not even a hi or nod in our general direction. Will buy tea somewhere else, thanks!

What a gem in the heart of Williamsburg and true tea enthusiasts haven where teas are respected and properly prepared to their tradition.

My favorite tea shop in the city. Not as great for sitting and hanging out, but you won't find a better tea selection anywhere. A beautiful shop, knowledgeable employees who are happy to let you smell things (and sometimes taste things), and who know the stories of the teas. A lovely selection of black, green, white, oolong, pu-erh, matcha, and tisanes. If you like tea, it's worth a trip.
