The 25 Best Restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico | Eater

"Every little detail at Puerto Cafe, from the vinyl-only background music to the intentionally sourced Mexican coffee, is what you may imagine when you think of the “perfect neighborhood coffee shop.” Owner and barista Aldo Hernández is a native of Mexico City, grew up in Puerto Vallarta, and left a career as an engineer to open Puerto Cafe. There are fruity pour overs, velvety flat whites, and — most important of all — vibes. The team is mostly made up of young skateboarders that Hernández trained himself, and you never know who you’ll see there. If you love what the staff pours for you, ask if you can buy a bag of beans to take back home." - Paola Briseño-González

Google
It’s a small, quiet, and charming café. It’s a great place to take a break when you’re tired from the hot sun. I had the matcha latte and the Toast de Salmón, as well as a cortado and banana bread, and they were all delicious. Next time, I’d love to try their croissant too.

Google
Puerto Café is a cool little hole-in-the-wall spot. It’s small, so don’t be surprised when you walk in, but the staff is super friendly and they speak English. Their coffee menu isn’t huge, but the options are really unique and good. I tried a cold brew with orange juice for the first time didn’t even know that was a thing and it was amazing. The toast breakfast was also great, and you can really taste how fresh the avocado is. Prices are fair, the bathroom is clean, and overall it’s just a really solid place to stop for coffee and breakfast.

Google
Best coffee I found in Puerto Vallarta. Between Wednesday and Sunday, I stopped by once or twice a day. I had a cortado, a macchiato, a shot of espresso, cold brew, and a croissant. They all tasted great. If I come back to Puerto Vallarta, I'll definitely make this my go-to coffee shop again. This is a third wave coffee shop, the only one I found nearby.

Igor Z.

Google
Best coffee shop in Puerto Vallarta, cortado and flat white were as good as best places in Seattle.

Google
The best coffee we have had in 2 weeks here, really good. The Avocado toast was delicious, the perfect blend of tasty ingredients. The Pain au Chocolate was also the best we have had in a long time. Great vibe, simple decor. Highly recommend.

Google
What a great coffee! Best in town I can say. Food was delicious, relaxing atmosphere, tasty drinks, and service was perfect! Thank you 🙏🏼

Daniel C.

Google
They have natural wines!!! That's amazing! Also really good coffee, awesome vibes and the service was excellent. The guy that helped us explained everything on detail and also gave us samples of the things they have, also really nice conversation we had with him. Definitely coming back every time I'm in Puerto Vallarta

Google
From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee beans. Since we landed in Peurto Vallarta we haven’t had a very good coffee . Their Flatwhite was the best . Hit the spot just like it supposed to . Great part is coffee beans are locally sourced and roasted medium .

Yelp
Charming cafe with high quality offerings. Loved our latte and quiche. Both high quality and filling. Would definitely return. Only con is that seating is very limited, so I wouldn't bet on getting a table unless you're okay with sitting at the bar.
google avatar

Yelp
Located one block from the beach in Zona Romantica guests visiting Puerto Cafe can expect locally sourced Beans carefully roasted and used to make a variety of Coffee beverages ranging from artistic Lattes to pure pour-over and bottled Coldbrew with excellent balance. Offering seats, air conditioning and WiFi, all rarities in Puerto Vallarta, those arriving early may also be fortunate enough to encounter a woman named Lu arrives walking her dog to deliver chewy Cookies ranging from Chocolate Chip to Cranberry.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful little cafe with strong and delicious coffee. Try the baked goods as well...the ham quiche and a cookie pair quite well with the coffee! A small but perfect menu for a little snack or small breakfast. Friendly staff and great music in the background.

Yelp
First time visiting puerto Vallarta and had to make sure I hit up the best spots for coffee. puerto was one of the few spots that showed up that spoke about making really good coffee. We should up on a Monday around 11:30pm and noticed it was a little packed. They have one small table for two and the rest is bar seating. People were leaving as we arrived so they kindly gave her their seats. The workers were very attentive and asked us what kind of coffee we liked. They don't have syrups to go with their coffees, however after trying the latte, we realized we didn't need sugar because the coffee already had a natural sweet taste. The coffees were absolutely delicious and I wish I went back for more.

Yelp
If you're in Vallarta, do yourself a favor and visit Puerto Cafe. The vibes are immaculate, they accept credit cards, and best of all, the coffee is some of the best I've ever had. They're about a block from the beach so it's the best way to start the day. Try the iced latte. Espresso so good it doesn't need flavoring or sweetener. Their avocado toast is also SO good.
google avatar

Kristine N.

Yelp
Puerto cafe is a legit coffee shop. The baristas know what they're doing! As soon as I asked if they have any sugar or syrups for their lattes, they said absolutely not so you can taste the coffee beans in your drink I like my lattes a little sweet, but I let them make me a latte with no sugar or syrup, and it was phenomenal!!!! I love the coffee beans they use and their techniques You can see them make your drinks in front of you if you sit at the bar area. 100000/10 experience

Yelp
The best cafe in Puerto. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. Definitely a vibe here. They serve coffee, beer and wine.

Yelp
The reviews don't lie. If you are in PV and need a place to chill, caffeinate, and/or get some work done, Puerto Cafe is the place. Feels like you can disconnect from the city for a bit and enjoy a chill vibe that is similar to other coffee shops in any other city. The baristas are super friendly and can help you decide what to get. I decided on a pour over and grabbed a table near the entrance. Moved from the bar only because the natural light was so enticing. WiFi was decent enough to get online / jump on a Zoom call so if you are "wfh" in PV, good spot to get a good cup of joe and just chill.

Yelp
Cute, cool cafe with an authentic flavor! Definitely come here if you love coffee :) Latte (60 pesos) - it comes with 2 shots. The coffee beans are slightly strong and roasted, but not bitter! BTW the latte doesn't come with sugar because they really want to focus on the taste of the coffee itself. You can ask for brown sugar on the side! Pastries (50 pesos each) - we got the blueberry loaf and cranberry cookie! Both were very moist and paired perfectly with the strong coffee. Service was great & prices were affordable!

Yelp
This shop is awesome. I have to say I did not have high hopes of drinking quality coffee whilst in PV but these guys quickly wiped away that notion. Serving Mexican grown coffee roasted in Guadalajara, the baristas serve up interesting cups of both espresso and pour over. The pour over we had was an overdosed (high coffee to water ratio) natural from Puebla which was intense and totally delicious. The espresso we had a couple of times was a little inconsistent, one shot was awesome the other a little under-extracted but still perfectly drinkable. My husband and I will certainly be back several times over our trip!

Yelp
Small cafe with good coffee, a variety of options and a staff that knows their way around coffee. Good place to stop in if you want coffee prepared with care and multiple bean options.
google avatar

Phylicia H.

Yelp
Very cute hidden coffee shop that was conveniently located directly across the street from my Airbnb. Ordered hot coffee and cold brew. They brew each individual cup of coffee so it is extremely fresh. The cold brew actually comes in a small cute bottle and they provide you a cup with/without ice for you to pour it into. Very cute spot with some seating inside!

Yelp
Nice local coffeehouse in the heart of El Centro district. It's a 5 minute walk towards the pier and ocean views, a few blocks away from the Lady of Guadalupe church, and plenty of local eats nearby. Place is not big, but big enough to hangout with friends at the bar or at the tables towards the front for a quick catchup. Service was good, and nice presentation with my cappuccino. Cheers!
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
On the hunt for a pour over in Puerta Vallarte, not May choices but this is café is top notch. They offer several options and serve Cafe Estelar beans. I tasted the natural which was delicious. They also offer a Washed process as well.

Yelp
Man... there's some really bad press with this place lately, and it's completely unwarranted. Yes, there is a message on the mirror that some may find offensive, but if you take the time to actually ask about it, you'll get a very intriguing backstory! The coffee is good, albeit a bit rich for my blood. I like that they have different types of cold brews, nut milks and other specialties as a good coffee shop should. The music is sometimes louder than I would like, but it's a great place to have a coffee, work for a little bit, or visit with a friend. Oh! The Millennial Toast (my name for avocado toast) is absolutely delectable. Give it a try!
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
Maybe the best latte that we had in PV. Go for the great coffee, not the environment. It's kinda sparse and not too interesting.
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
Love the vibe of this cafe. The staff is friendly. I had their iced chai and it was good. Will definitely go back if I'm in the area. Worth checking out!
google avatar

Sarika K.

Yelp
Iced latte was on point! Service was great too. Please give this quaint little shop a visit!

Yelp
So happy that there is a legit coffee spot in PV. My only regret was not hitting this place up every morning of my trip. I will do so next time. The pour over and their espresso shots are excellent. The guys behind the counter speak English and Spanish, they're friendly and knowledgeable. There is counter seating and a few tables inside.
google avatar

Oliver D.

Yelp
Great little hidden coffee place just one block away from the busy waterfront with all the shops and restaurants. The cold brew tasted good and the service was friendly and quick. I would come back. *** Grossartiges kleines café wo etwas versteckt ist. Nur eine strass von der Fussgängerzone am Wasser mit all den Läden und Restaurants. Das kalte Kaffee hat gut geschmeckt und die Bedienung war freundlich und schnell.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Best americanos in Puerto Vallarta. I came here almost daily during my vacation and was always a great start to my day. The baristas know English and Spanish and always welcoming. The coffee sings and plenty comfortable to To Go or sit and relax a bit! Already can't wait to go back.

Samantha M.

Yelp
This coffee shop is so cute! The coffee is perfect. Highly recommend! I normally get an iced caramel latte but here I got the cold brew and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! Will definitely be back next time I'm In town.

Yelp
Yessssss! The type of amazing coffee and cafe vibes i was looking for! I had previously bought coffee at another coffee place, but it did not taste good so i was on the hunt for REAL coffee. I found this place on Google maps and it was a gem find. Waling up to the place it looks small and it kinda is, but i love the vibes and simplistic set-up. It is played out like a small bar and the barista mix/prepare your coffee in front of you at the bar. I ordered the iced latte with almond milk and my friend an iced chai latte. The chain was freshly brewed. My coffee looked like a caramel latte, but it was not as they don't do flavored drinks. It tasted so good and real coffee (not watered down, not bitter and not sweetened). If you want your drink sweetened you have to let them know or you can add the sugar afterwards. Highly recommend this place for coffee. The baristas are awesome and at the time of this review at least one of them spoke English.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend. Diego was a great barista. Silky milk and perfectly poured cappuccino. Best coffee spot we have been to so far. We will be back!
google avatar

Kristin B.

Yelp
Cute little place, great coffee, nice guys making the drinks! Will be back for more caffeine cravings!

Yelp
Very sad to say since my last 5-star review a few years back, the whole coffee experience here has noticeably deteriorated. Not sure if it's due to change of management but things look so different this time I visited. The nice decor was completely stripped and the coffee shop feels very bare bone and under maintained. They also didnt have the delicious freshly made pastries (croissants, etc.) anymore but only some packaged cookies and cakes. Coffee quality was also disappointing. This used to be my favorite boutique coffee shop in PV. I'm so sad to see it became like this.
google avatar

Joy D.

Yelp
Best coffee we've had since being in PV. We came in the afternoon and enjoyed walking into a cool air conditioned cafe. We ordered a cold brew and a pour over. Both were excellent and the baristas were kind and helpful explaining the different types of coffee beans to us. We wanted to buy a bag of beans but unfortunately they were out. Also tried a vegan oatmeal raisin cookie which was great and a nice complement to the coffee. Will for sure return.
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
BEST coffee we had in Puerto Vallarta hands down. They do espresso-based drinks like lattes and cappucinos but also have a variety of hand pour options as well as a few in-house bean options for each drink. We even ended up picking up a bag of beans for home.
google avatar

Mimi M.

Yelp
Best espresso drinks in PV. The baristas put a ton of care into every drink. This is a small hipster cafe with great music, no menu, just great drinks. They don't appear to do anything besides coffee and espresso, but they do that extremely well. So just don't come here if you're looking for whipped cream or breakfast or anything else :-)
google avatar

Paras B.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and great service. Latte is as perfect as it gets. We loved it here.

Joseph H.

Yelp
one of the best coffee places in PV. They are dedicated to the coffee craft in all forms. Definitely try their pour over. Don't miss this one.

Mary Beth K.

Yelp
Best coffee in Puerto Vallarta, and believe me I've tried them all. I also recommend the avocado toast!! it's not only delicious, but beautiful as well :)
google avatar

Jayson C.

Yelp
Nice little cafe near the water in Puerto Vallarta. Although it's close to the beach it's in a quieter area where you can relax and enjoy your coffee. The space is small so larger parties will have to split up. They have a good variety of artisanal coffee and can be made in many ways (French press, Chemex, V-60, etc) Non-Dairy available: -Coconut Milk -Almond Milk Food Available: -Ham and Cheese Croissant -Toasts -Pastries/Bread Overall, it's a nice place to just chill and have a break from all your beach activities. The people working there are nice and accommodating. $$$ Pesos and USD accepted. Credit Card also accepted. One star less since they ran out of Matcha for my Matcha Latte.
google avatar

Nathan M.

Yelp
An absolutely wonderful little cafe in a place where quality espresso simply isn't the main focus. The barista was happy to make my drink he'd never heard of (quad iced americano) and did the whole thing while we threw phrases at each other over a language barrier. Nice shots and a good atmosphere to start a day in.
google avatar

Tim X.

Yelp
We're so glad we found this cafe when visiting Puerto Vallarta for a few days. They really prioritize quality here--there's a variety of beans, roasts, and brewing methods. There's the standard menu of espresso based drinks, but if you prefer your coffee black like me, you can get it made by aeropress, V60, Chemex, french press, and basically any method you can name. Every cup of black coffee is made by hand and with care. The folks who run the shop are super nice and were fun to chat with. There's free wifi as well, which was useful for us since the wifi at our Airbnb was spotty. Do note that no tea is served, coffee only. Credit cards accepted!

Yelp
For a coffee snob always in search of the best espresso I can find, their espresso was fine. What I really enjoyed was the excellent service, attention to detail, cute location, and the delicious salmon avocado toast!!
google avatar

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
Such a cute coffee shop with tasty coffee! Next time will have to try the fresh pastries.
google avatar

Beka W.

Yelp
Would choose this place 10/10 times if I'm in Puerto Vallarta! I'm from Seattle so my coffee expectations are high, and Puerto Café meets that! They start with great beans and bring such care to each cup being made. Friendly folks always. I would highly recommend!
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Skip Starbucks this is where you want to be! Best coffee I've had in awhile!!! Good quality, great price, and near the beach!
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Excellent coffee and service! Hands down the best latte I've had in my three trips to PV. We will definitely return!
google avatar

Paul E.

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop. A bit on the pricey side as there other coffee shops in the area that have very good coffee at lower price
google avatar

Joan M.

Yelp
Espresso, Macchiato, Pour Over, Chemex, Press. Whatever your desire... this is the place to go! I've tried all of these here. The beans that they have chosen for the Espresso has incredible flavor. While the beans used for the Pour Over are much more delicate. From the barista owners to the baristas, all are passionate about the art of coffee. I love this place!!!! They have amazing books to read on travel, art, espresso. The art on the wall is from local artists or friends. No habla espanol! No worries!!! The team of Awesome "A"s (most of their names start with A) I love just hanging out here, talking, working, reading... all while having an amazing Espresso!
google avatar

Roxanne A.

Yelp
Here, you drink coffee like a Mexican rockstar. ...or whateva. Whatever your plans are in PV, start your day here with great local coffee prepared by some bad ass local coffee lovers.
google avatar

Eun H.

Yelp
Best of PV! Serious coffee aficionados come! Those who want to try beans from Mexico come! They are mindful, educational and offer quality bean. They also serve it in diverse method so try several different ways. Hidden gem! Any picky espresso fans will find it solid, ridiculously delicious. It should be #1 coffee shop for a serious coffee lovers! Also love the prices! Not hiked up like the hotel zone I'm staying at.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
The vibe here was awesome. The music they were playing was great and the guys working here were so helpful with all of our tourist questions. Many options on the menu for coffee and other drinks. Super cute little hole in the wall with cool art and atmosphere. I definitely recommend coming here for a coffee if you're in Puerto Vallarta.

Hamilton K.

Yelp
Cool cafe, the younger guy made a great pourover and even asked my preferred brewer. Had to go with the kalita to compare with my own. I came back the next morning if that says anything lol
google avatar

Steve H.

Yelp
This place was so cool. The owner and baristas were very friendly. They poured my Chemex pour over at my table on the scale. Best third wave coffee in puerto Vallarta! Cold brew was excellent. They offer coconut and almond milk as milk alternatives.
google avatar

GenelLynne R.

Yelp
Puerto Cafe was one of our favorite spots to visit while staying in PV! With an incredible playlist (English and Spanish music mixed), and a fantastic staff of baristas, this place offers the perfect vibe for meeting up with a friend over coffee or working for the morning. We loved to relax here and skim through some of their book offerings, with coffee and a fresh pastry. David was kind and helpful every time we were there as well.
google avatar

Sergio W.

Yelp
Hands down best coffee in Puerto Vallarta. If you are picky with your coffee this is the place to go, you won't be disappointed. Keep in mind they don't serve flavored lates, lattes are so good they don't need any add ons.
