The 19 Best Restaurants In Calistoga

"If you’re looking for grab-and-go tacos and burritos, come to this Mexican market at the tip of town. You’ll also find things like quesadillas, tamales, and fresh shrimp and fish ceviche served by the pound—all of which you order at the deli counter. The market itself is filled with Mexican snacks and candies sure to silence any kid, and with prices that are a fraction of what you’d pay anywhere else ($3 tacos and $12 plate dinners), it will silence the grownups too." - christina julian

Friday night dinner becomes Sunday breakfast -brunch. (Leftover grilled veggies) Tried both of the chicken marinades from the meat guys - both were great - and i got the meat cut to the perfect size for the skewers.. Nice! Thank you for that! And i also found my new favorite salsa. Good stuff. Go local market!

Google
One of the worst and most expensive burritos in my life I've eaten thousands of burritos! You would think for $15 it would be okay. But it was TERRIBLE Ordered a super burrito with everything and it was 98% rice and meat The whole thing tasted beyond dead

Google
The tacos are excellent quality, delicious, and worth every penny! We just wolfed down 2 carne asadas and 2 al pastors. We’re ordering 3 more as I write this review 😅 Highly recommend Puerto Vallarta Market’s tacos 🌮 ⭐️ 🔥

Google
Great place to get a good mid-day Mexican snack at the taqueria!!! Before you go drink more wine in the afternoon!! The asada meat super quesadillas are amazing!!! Two people can definitely share one!!

Google
Good place to grab a burrito ...must say there was a young girl making them my first time there. She looked very unhappy and when I bit in to my burrito she had loaded it with HOT sauce. Yet she never asked me for mild/med or hot. She is lucky I can tolerate it. Sheesh if you dont like your job, quit!

After walking all over Calistoga downtown on a warm day we decided to stop and have a cold drink at a nearby table outside the store. We served ourselves and paid before heading outside for a sit-down. Nice clean establishment. Dog friendly seating outside.

Google
This place is just great all around. Whenever I'm visiting back home and I want to travel to Santa Rosa or the Bay Area I always have to stop here to shop and of course grab something to eat. The food portions are great and you don't pay an arm and a leg. The staff has always been friendly and it's a great environment. Don't pass through Calistoga without stopping by here to grab a bite to eat.

Google
I love the little taqueria inside! My father in law always sends me there to get him lengua quesadillas. They also have a meat counter inside with very fresh looking cuts, and everything is very clean in the meat area. The store has many items as well if you need something like dish soap or household supplies. Friendly customer service too!

Yelp
AMAZING! We shared the chille relleno plate and it was delicious. Sorry, no pictures, we inhaled the food too quickly. Served with rice and refried beans and a truly generous sccop of guacamole and sour cream. Truly one of the best chille rellonos I have had. HIGHLY recommended.

Yelp
Vallarta Market is hands down my favorite spot for authentic and delicious Mexican food. Their taqueria is unbeatable, and I've been coming here for years. The carne asada tacos are absolutely perfect--packed with flavor and cooked just right every time. And their super burrito? It's a game-changer. Seriously, so good! What I love most is the consistency. No matter how many times I visit, the food is always fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. It's the kind of place that keeps you coming back again and again. If you're craving top-notch Mexican food, Vallarta Market is the place to go. I recommend it to everyone I know!

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Mexican food and without paying tourist prices, this is the place to be! Everything is pretty much within walking distance in Calistoga; and it's so close to the main drag that you can take your food to your hotel, the park, or back home, if you don't want to devour it in your car. Literally, the taqueria in the back of this little market is likely the best Mexican food in town. If you're looking for ingredients, the market has most things at a discount compared to the supermarket down the street, and fresh produce. The folks that staff the place are always friendly and if you get there late enough, you may get to treat your ears to some Mexican opera from the friend in the back manning the fish and meat area. I've been living in Calistoga for a decade and this is the only place I'll go for my carnitas quesadilla or some pastor tacos!

Nelly L.

Yelp
Went to pick up lunch with my coworker. Ordered a chile relleno plate. The chille relleno had no cheese was cold and tasted like old refrigerated food and had an excess salt. I've never known chile rellenos to have salt lol. The rice and beans were bad as well. Tasted old and refrigerated. Very, very disappointed. My coworkers lunch was not great either. I'll let her do her review.

Yelp
Every time I am in Calistoga and I am craving al Pastor Burrito, I always come here. The place is always packed with people for lunch and the market itself has a variety of home goods and products. They also have variety of Mexican cheese, along with fresh sea food, oysters and BBQ meat. If you are also feeling like having chicharrones as a snack, they also got you cover! I myself ordered a pastor Burrito. It was delicious like always, along with a Coca-Cola for a drink. Best combo ever! If you are in Calistoga and happen to be craving Mexican food, give this place a try! You won't be disappointed

Yelp
The super burritos were delicioso but huge! We added jalapeño and they were not kidding -A LOT of Jalapeño!!! We had to take it out. Also got chili relleno (very tasty) and three kinds of tacos. It's just a little taqueria in back of the grocery.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good breakfast egg burrito. I would want to try their other foods next time though!
google avatar

Skyler S.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in the area I try to come here as much as I can , highly recommend the asada quesadilla or any burrito. I've been eating here for almost 10 years and it's only gotten better

Snidely W.

Yelp
Normally a good lunch choice but today's Super Carnitas Burrito was anything but Super. Hard, dry meat with very little of the other fillings that are supposed to be included and what tasted like an entire bottle of salt in it. The salsa was flavorless offering nothing but heat. This should never have gone out of the kitchen.
google avatar

Camilla V.

Yelp
Staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Some produce looked a bit wilted, but other than that they have great stuff!
google avatar

Juana S.

Yelp
Tacos de pollo (chicken) and Tacos de pastor (marinated pork) they are typical street truck tacos with cilantro and onions to garnish. We left the onions off and they satisfied our salty palette. Nothing special Torta de Asada (steak) vale with a slice of Mexican cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and jalapeño. I did enjoy it more than the tacos. The meat was well marinated and the combo worked well together. I would come back for the torta if in the area and for Mexican snacks and jaritos. If you are in the area and want affordable Mexican bites stop here. Pro: Plenty of parking Taqueria in the market Affordable for the area Convenience Cons: Salsa not spicy enough (mild)

Heather C.

Yelp
The taqueria inside is sooooo good and the market has a really great selection of things you won't find at most stores. I definitely would recommend stopping in.
google avatar

Victoria D.

Yelp
Great authentic tacos!!!the carne asada they use in the tacos is wonderfully seasoned and little bits of charred edges give a great base for this little taqueria gem! Simple ingredients, perfectly executed. Their house made salsa is smokey and flavorful , I put some on top and it was heaven..
google avatar

Yelp
These guys make a really good al pastor burrito. It's very competitive with the more well known establishments in the Mission in San Francisco.
google avatar

Al D.

Yelp
This place is solid. If you're looking to take a break from all the high end restaurants in the area and just want an old fashioned and down to earth meal, then this place will satisfy that craving. We shared a super carnitas burrito (they are big) and it was good. I'm sure that I can think of better burritos in SF or LA, but I'm not. You know why? Because I'm in Calistoga, and I need a break from eating at the resort.
google avatar

Yelp
The Carne Asada burrito is delicious! The good: - food is fresh and tasty - staff is very friendly - there's decent parking - prices The bad: - no tables - no tables - no tables This is a great place to grab a burrito is you are driving in the area and need a burrito to go. The food is hot and fresh and doesn't take long to get.

Yelp
We were vineyard hopping when we became hungry and needed food to soak up all the alcohol we were putting into our bodies. Luckily this place was close to us, so we decided to get some burritos from here. When you walk in you know you are going to get some good food. It feels authentic and they make your food to order. It is tucked away in a little grocery store. It was huge so I even had left overs for breakfast.

Yelp
After paying $16 for an "artisan" tuna sandwich, it was nice to have a more down-to-earth place to grab a bite amidst the more touristy and expensive eateries in the Callistoga area. This place reminds me of those Mexican markets in Oakland where I lived as a kid. It actually felt more homey to me than most of the restaurants in Callistoga. We had the pork super burrito for $8. Not the best burrito I've had but certainly hits the spot, not to mention being a great value in general, not just by Callistoga standards. They don't have pico de gallo, which is a must for me, so I did miss that refreshing, slightly tart element. The tacos are only $2. We had the lengua (tongue) and pastor. The pastor was really flavorful. The chicarrones were delicious and a real treat as I can't find them in my area. You must try. It's purely takeout -- no seating. They also have a big selection of Mexican sweet buns, a serviced raw meats counter including some marinated meats, and fresh fruit and veggies. There's a parking lot out front so it's convenient, and everybody was friendly.

Yelp
This place is legit. Just had the Supreme Burrito Pollo Asada, with the works. By far the best Burrito I've ever had. My wife had the supreme quesadilla with chicken and was equally impressed. If you are in Calistoga I highly recommend you don't miss this gem.
google avatar

Debbie L.

Yelp
I had high hopes for their super burrito but it was just ok. I guess I thought it'd be something similar to what I could find in the Mission in SF...Not quite. That said it's a great option if you're hungry and don't want to spend a lot of money. The carne asada was just ok. There didn't seem to be any salsa inside so I'm glad I asked for some hot sauce to add a kick. I'm glad a tried it but not likely to order it again.

Yelp
After doing some wine tasting, the wife and I were in the mood for a burrito. We "Yelped" this place and figured to give it a shot. In my experience the Mexican markets/grocery stores that also have an in house to go taquerias are very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I went for my "Go to" item when trying out a new place. The Super Carnitas Burrito. It was a pretty good size burrito and the price was very fair. The carnitas were flavorful and crispy. The contents in the burrito were very consistent with every bite. They had plenty of snacks, fruits, vegetables and wine to choose from. They don't have any tables to eat there, so keep that in mind. I will definitely go back to this market when I'm up in Calistoga.

Yelp
I was so impressed with everything, large selection tamales, produce, juice and salsa bar and best of all there gelato ice cream most impressive.. I would recommend this market

Yelp
What's not to LOVE at this unbelievably happy place? We walk in on a Friday afternoon, in search of some produce. We step in and are accosted--in the best way possible--by the employees and customers dancing and singing to blaring Spanish music! When they see us walking in, they grin a bit sheepishly and explain, "We're happy because it's Friday!" What a joyous thing. Such verve and love in the air. Because the energy was so infectious and also cuz we wanted to give business to the establishment, we ended us buying more than we really needed, plus some beverages. It's an electric authentic taqueria and market with everything you might want. The ambience and spirit of the place, the prices...all of it--doesn't get better than this! If you're in the area and looking for water, juices, Mexican food, produce, tinned stuff, or just to browse in a party atmosphere, this is the ticket!

Yelp
WOW...I thought I would never utter these words outta my mouth, but yes...authentic and absolutely DELICIOUS Mexican food in the Bay! And in Wine Country too for crying out loud! We made the yummiest mistake, well since it was so yummy it wasn't that bad of a mistake of stopping into this teeny tiny market to see if we can grab something quick to eat in the car on our way back to our hotel from wine tasting (why I say mistake is because we had reservations about 3 hours later at the well-known and palette pleasing Tra Vigne in Saint Helena that night). There's a guy in the back just cooking up tons of delicious meats for your tacos, burritos or whatever else that tickles your Mexicano tumtum craving. I had the chicken burrito and it was a HUGE belly bomb of a burrito let me tell ya! The rice and beans were cooked to perfection and I think I had some guacamole and sour cream in that bomb too. I was scarfing that thing down in the car and as we got closer to our hotel the food coma started to set in quickly! Oh nooo...no bueno! The SBBF also had a burrito, not sure which one it was but he said it was one of the biggest and most tasty burrito he's ever had in his life. Yep, the food coma set it and STAYED all through the night. I could barely enjoy my meal at fancy-schmancy Tra Vigne that night. Do I regret that burrito bomb? Hell no! I'm craving one right now as we speak. :)

Yelp
Great little "mom and pop" type Mexican grocery store. They have everything you need. Especially if you don't want to pay "Calistoga" tourist prices.

Yelp
Tired, dark, cold, rainy and staying at the charming Bergson Inn, just didn't feel like getting back in the car to drive to dinner... YELP liked this Mexican market directly across the street. Plan? Deliver our own room service meal. What the heck? As yelped. Clean, easy, loads of fresh fruits and vegetables plus I ordered the regular carne asada burrito. Hubby didn't feel well. He just snagged a Mexican coconut ice cream. I added a small bag of Doritos. I never eat Doritos. They were a guilty pleasure. Loads of Mexican sweets we passed on but feel free. You and your kids will love the shelves of goodies. We totally enjoyed our InRoom meal. I am a light eater so hubby with the tummy ache enjoyed 1/2 my well stuffed, perfect burrito, we definitely saved $$ and the meal was delightful.

Yelp
"Puerto Vallarta Squeeze"- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9fBhw0dhs Downtown Calistoga used to have a Puerto Vallarta restaurant with outdoor dining (it's now an ice cream scoop shop/future beer shop) Luckily, they still have Puerto Vallarta Market (it used to have a mural depicting the Mexican coast, perhaps the city on Jalisco's Pacific coast?) Puerto Vallarta is refreshingly unpretentious, their in-house taqueria has an extensive menu. They've cleaned up over the years, and while they don't have a dining area, they do carry everyday items. I was able to get soap&toiletries. They even have a sizable wine case. The service is fast&friendly. Their produce section is clean&well-maintained. Everything is fresh&ripe. Pro-tip #1- It's all about timing. The parking lot IS a Puerto Vallarta Squeeze. Pro-tip #2- "Puerto Vallarta Squeeze" was the 1995 follow-up to the late Robert James Waller's successful "Bridges of Madison County." The "Puerto Vallarta Squeeze" theme by Willie&Lobo- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0-I-2HFTjM

Yelp
Was going to order burritos for dinner but wanted to try the meat . So I ordered 2 tacos 1 carnitas 1 pastor . I consider myself a Mexican food Connoisseur . My husband is Mexican and we make bomb Mexican food forever . Not to mention we go to every taco truck & taqueria in California. So I went in with high hopes . When I ordered he put meat on my 2 tacos then a customer came in who had to be a friend was talking Spanish with them and laughing. He ordered a bunch of tacos. They set my food to the side and did the other guys order and his friends while I sat there looking at my 2 small tacos. Then the guy asked for salsa & he got a foil of jalapeños or lime . Then they got back to my 2 tacos and I asked for salsa and he told me you don't need it there is salsa on there . Price was over $4 for 2 of the smallest tacos I've ever seen . When I bit in it was cold and in definite need of salsa . Pastor had a funny after taste. I'm disappointed and will not be back .

Yelp
Super friendly and clean market with food counter. Really enjoyed being able to order good pastor tacos and steak burritos. Nice little market with nice staff and plenty of veggies and other Mexican sourced products.

Mark W.

Yelp
The store is busy most of the times when I visit. The owner is a good guy very helpful and knowledgeable. The taco and burrito bar is good. Good ingredients and well prepared. Veggie displays van use a little help but it's all good. The ceviche is awesome the one in the green sauce with prawns

Yelp
Azecta Market is the name on the outside, Puerto Vallarta Market appears on the receipt. just the facts. Market is a full service mexican grocery: taqueria, beers & mexican milk products, panaderia, carniceria(fresh meats/seafood), spices, canned goods, fruits. -essentially a full service mex market. eats: al pastor/lengua taco @2 -better than average size, good value -lenguq tender cubles, pastor spicy, didn't taste fried. -taqueria reasonably priced for calistoga (burrito, 6.95+) frijoles refritos: -young taqueria worker definite eye candy for some patrons -husky cashier is quik checking patrons out when not fetching goods. -large parking lot. -only mexican patrons seen -workers very professional, bi-lingual no doubt patrons are diverse, depends on the time. -worth dropping by to escape tourist pricing downtown.
google avatar

Tempest F.

Yelp
I like this market. The people are friendly and they have a good stock of items to make an easy stop on the way home. The produce is excellent and the have a pretty good meat counter. The taqueria part is really kind of hit or miss. It's not horrible but it's nothing to rave about either. Very mediocre food...but I'm a complete snob when it comes to good Mexican food.
google avatar

Julio G.

Yelp
Great tacos, chicharrón and burritos big enough to feed 2 people unless you're selfish like me lol . This place is a must go to if you li e in Calistoga or are passing through.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Wasn't sure they'd have vegetarian options for my wife when checking out the menu online, so we headed to the Cal-mart instead. The Cal-mart deli and salad bar were just closing, and all the food was already put away. Hmm, okay, let's give it a try. We drove over, and I ran in to check the menu / order. Everyone's Latino here - good sign. Okay, they have options... veggie quesadilla, veggie burrito, or chile relleno. Also nachos - but they're apparently out. The order counter is lodged in the "Meat dept" though, so somewhat unavoidable there. Not sure if the beans are veggie, so i went quesadilla for her - yes salsa, yes guac, yes onions, no tomato - yes sour cream (comes on the side, perfect) - and a carnitas burrito for me. In/out in 7 mins, and I wandered around the store and picked up a couple drinks and a little after dinner dessert. Back at the hotel - quesadilla was loaded down, in a good way, and delivered with tons of sour cream on the side. The star of the show was definitely the burrito though. It was _loaded_ with carnitas - one of the best in recent memory. Definitely two meals, but i scarfed it down because i have no self control with delicious Mexican food. Deliciousness vs price ratio is off the charts here. Protip: As i checked out, i noted that they sell bundles of oysters ($65 for 60 of them!!) - fresh from Bodega Bay. Clerk mentioned they're delivered fresh on Tues, Wed, and Sat.

Yelp
Went here to try some tacos at the taqueria for a late lunch while we waited for our hotel room to be ready to check into. The taqueria is tucked in the back of this Market and I got 3 carne asada tacos for $3 each, they were topped with cilantro, onions, and red non-spicy salsa. My partner also order ceviche and a carne asada burrito which he mentioned had too much rice for his likings but was still nevertheless a delicious burrito. The shrimp ceviche was made with minced shrimp which I thought was interesting and ended up loving in the end upon trying it. We just got a bag of Sonoma tortilla chips and they were also delish to eat with the ceviche. Loved this little market as it had the basic essentials needed for someone who maybe forgot something at home and forget to pack for their getaway to Calistoga. Overall, I loved the taqueria and would definitely recommend this to a friend for a quick cheap meal :)

Mark M.

Yelp
Got a burrito at the taqueria inside the market. It was okay but kind of meh for Bay Area standards. Also a bit on the small side. I will say the meat counter did look good. I would probably be more inclined to visit again for that more so than the taqueria.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
Stopped in for a pastor super burrito. Hour and a half later, can't get off the toilet! This is the absolute last time I will ever visit this place! Spare yourself and go somewhere else!
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Super legit! Had a breakfast burrito, the chorizo was off the hook. Butcher helped recommend a couple pastries for me (I'm a gringo, not fluent in mexican pastries) the pastries were delicious. Everyone who helped me was great and the food was excellent. If you are need of some reasonably price eats, hit the taquiera you will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Ally H.

Yelp
Place was packed full on thanksgiving day. I traveled to Napa, Ca. from Maryland. The placed was packed on thanksgiving day. The deli had a large homemade authentic variety of foods and service was fast. There was a fair amount of grab and go salads and sandwiches.
google avatar

Tom H.

Yelp
The best burrito shops are always hidden away in little grocery stores and this is no exception. Flavorful, slightly spicy Carne Asada. They stick to simplicity with their burritos: rice, beans, and meat in a huge tortilla. That's a winning combination that let's the ingredient quality speak for itself. Only downside is the lack of seating, so get this to go.
google avatar

Regina M.

Yelp
Love the little back market Mexican Delis. Nice simple flavor and exactly what I expected. I had the vegetarian burrito with not too much spice and a good flavor.
google avatar

Carlos F.

Yelp
This is the traditional Mexican store in the town they have everything we need and as a plus they've a takeout taqueria and pan dulce
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
Excellent Mexican food and amazing value. All Mexicans there and takeout only. Don't expect high end but good solid food with amazing prices. Nice work!!
google avatar

Drury S.

Yelp
The best tacos for those who like specialty meats such as head cheese, tongues, etc. Try the crispy pork meat, it's to die for. The place is clean, take out only. I'm so glad that my hotel is near this place.
google avatar

Gregory M.

Yelp
Wow! All I can say is wow! Great place, great price. We tried the super burrito with carnitas. Everything you could ask for in a burrito with the perfectly cooked and spiced carnitas crispy on the outside moist in the middle. I also ordered the carne asada tacos. Great beef street style tacos with a flavorful salsa and veggies. In addition we tried a super quesadilla with chicken, guacamole, and sour cream. Lastly we ordered a sweet tamale. Multiple wineries recommended the food and we had been taisting all day, leading us to want a quiet evening in the bnb. They wrapped it all up to go and we ate it in the room. We will return anytime we are in the area.

Yelp
Don't expect fancy dining ambiance because it's a tiny hole-in-the-wall carniceria with a Mexican food restaurant in one corner, BUT if tasty delicious authentic Mexican food is what you seek, this is it. Did I mention affordable? I truly believe Vallarta Market's carnitas burrito has profound healing powers that quell pms and lethargy of the angriest of umm .. female folk. Any of the tacos are fabulous as well and the service is FAST! Vallarta Market - you are my hero!
google avatar

Tommy G.

Yelp
Had a great spicy 1/2 chicken 1/2 carne asada super burrito here from the taqueria in back. The people here were super friendly and the place was very very clean. This is a grocery store with a taqueria just to be clear -- so no seating and you need to get it to go. They also have breakfast options.

Elver G.

Yelp
Seem to get busy and forget single orders to take care of big orders. If your a group ok place but if you're not go elsewhere.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Pretty darn delicious burrito made in the back of a Mexican mercado. Got me an Al Pastor Burrito. Tender chunks of well marinated pork, but super greasy; red oil was running down my hands. Guac inside was AH-mazing! But, keep in mind it's huge. El chef cut it in half for us without us asking. Shared with the hubby and it was a perfect lunch.
