I was excited to stay here, and Hotel has a very pretty location and view, and nice design. Access to the pool and the beach is also unique and very nice.
But if you book here, don’t expect to get much service. I’d emailed an advance to try to book various tours or local reservations and was not able to get anything sorted in advance, which is a letdown when traveling to a development country like this and staying at a top-tier hotel.
The front desk is extremely chaotic, and there are loose papers all over every day that make me think there’s a lack of systems for the staff to stay organized.
My room and view in bed and bathroom were all quite nice and in good condition.
The bar has a very nice menu and generally had good service, But around a holiday, they kept running out of basic things like tonic, Which just shouldn’t happen.
The spa is quite nice as well, although they seemed reticent to book an appointment, And buying things from the gift shop required cash only which was difficult.
The hotel also does not provide any sort of local guide or recommendations, which would be extremely helpful as online maps like Google maps are just less accurate in Dakar.
In general, I would get help if I assertively asked for it, But always in a very sort of unfriendly and transactional way, Even if the staff wasn’t being rude, It just seemed that they weren’t trained on hospitality. And I am a global traveler, so I try to adapt to local standards and expectations and be quite empathetic with my communication.
So generally speaking, this is a decent hotel for a hotel itself, but expect minimum support in navigating the local area or the hotel itself, And its services. As an example when I left to go to the airport, they were surprised that I hadn’t booked ground transportation yet it was never offered or suggested upon check-in or when I emailed in advance or when I booked the reservation or the many times I was at the front desk. Things like that are just a missed opportunity to take care of guests and provide more service and earn more revenue for the hotel.
