Pullman Port Douglas Sea Temple Resort & Spa | Best places to stay in Port Douglas

"This elegant beachfront property is set in ten acres of tropical gardens at the southern end of the idyllic, pristine Four Mile Beach, 5km to the south of Port Douglas. The 194 rooms range from studios to three-bedroom villas, and it’s a hot family ticket during holidays. Apart from its beachfront location, the property features a series of lagoon pools – meaning you can literally swim around the resort. With its luxury spa, elegant in-house dining and recreational facilities, there’s little motivation to move except for a round of golf at the hotel’s 18-hole course nearby. As most tours pick up from your accommodation, being outside of the main town is not an inconvenience. If you are the type of person who wants to spend your entire holiday in swimming togs, this tropical hideaway will suit you perfectly. " - Mark Chipperfield

My Husband and I loved our time at The Pullman. We were celebrating an anniversary and was our first child free holiday in a long time. The resort is very nice, quiet and tidy and only a 5 minute drive to the main area of town. We received some bubbles in our room to celebrate our anniversary and also had our room upgraded to a penthouse with a spa and rooftop area with our own private area to relax. The pool area was really nice with us spending most of our time here and at the pool bar. It did take quite a while for the food to come from the pool bar and it was cold when it got to us and the cocktails are quite expensive when it’s not happy hour but they were delicious. The pool area was very kid friendly as well as the private rooftop area of our room. We will definitely be back with our kids!

We stayed for 2 nights with kids. Check in included a glass of sparkling wine or a mocktail. Accommodations were neat, clean, and well maintained. The pool was great, breakfast was very good. Breakfast started at 7AM, which made early adventures out a little challenging. We scheduled activities that allowed us to be conveniently picked up at the hotel too, which was nice. Parking looked challenging at first, but we got a convenient spot every time. We had a hot tub, but it was too hot outside to want to use, instead we cooled off in the pool.

We needed a break after a long Victorian winter & headed north for 4 glorious nights in Port Douglas. The accommodation was perfect and even though we had our own pool we spent more time in the resort pool enjoying the pool bar. The staff were fabulous and we met a couple of stand out staff in the restaurant. Not only could they take our photos they laughed with us and made us feel like we were the only guests. Highly recommend especially in October between school holidays. Perfect!

Had an amazing week at Pullmans the 3 Bedroom villa was perfect for our family and so comfy and relaxing. Molly was hands down the best of all staff she was always friendly and helpful and it was clear she is very good at her job. The two other ladies at breakfast were also fantastic unfortunately we were unable to get the names but the one in the bar making coffees made some of the best coffees. We also had a helpful lady at reception book our tours who was also very friendly. Finally the ladies in the vie spa did a great job of our body massages. Only critism was the cocktail sizes for $26 i was expecting the tall glasses or a cocktail glass but when receiving a small whiskey size glass with lots of ice i was a bit shocked. We tried a different cocktail and again received a tiny glass. But on my last full day i asked Molly what cocktails come in the taller glass and was able to enjoy a good Moana cocktail. Thank you again for a lovely stay.

We recently stayed at the Pullman Sea Temple and, while it looks lovely at first glance, the cracks start to show once you settle in. The facilities are definitely tired — mould on the restaurant roof, rusted pool water features, and broken or inadequate lighting in the BBQ area of our private villa. There’s only one bar on site — the pool bar — and unfortunately, the cocktails were pretty watered down and underwhelming. It really needs another option, maybe a proper lounge or sports bar to unwind at in the evenings. The food was fine, but definitely not worth the price tag — you’d get a much better meal (and value) spending $45 at a café in town. Overall, it’s a resort that photographs beautifully, but could use a good refresh and a bit more attention to detail to live up to its Pullman name.

We came for some warm weather which Mother Nature provided. There was a fair bit of hype about this resort and we had previously stayed at the Pullman in Palm Cove. This is not a 5 star resort. The staff were excellent. We had a 2 bedroom Villa overlooking the main pool and with a spa on the roof. The pool and spa were great for our 4 year old. The accommodation was a let down. Just a bit shabby and in desperate need of an update. Old school show over a bath. The cupboards etc in the bathroom were rough and damaged. The TV didn’t work and we had to call maintenance. The furniture was fairly rundown. The upstairs spa area was pretty average but at least the spa worked. There was a BBQ but the kitchen equipment was pretty average. It seems that some of these units may be privately owned and run by the resort. The breakfast was ok but really just like any other buffet in a hotel. The resort is actually a fair way out of town but the shuttle buses work well. However, they are private and not part of the resort. Really for the price you expect a 5 star hotel. Would we stay here again? Probably not. It wasn’t unpleasant just overrated.

This hotel is a three star at best. The room is a bit dated with some mould on the shower tiles. The pool is very awkward to get to from some of the accommodation, there are only 8 umbrellas with loungers under them. All the rest of the loungers are in sun all day. The pool is large and possibly the only positive about this property. The restaurant service is diabolical long waits between courses, we ordered dessert and after 20 mins asked for an update and were told the order never went in and the chefs had gone home. When we got the bill we were still charged for those non existent desserts! We ordered room service, only part of the order arrived. We had to call down again to get the rest of the order, when it arrived it was cold and our drinks were still missing. The hotel is quite a bit outside of the main bar and restaurant area, the hotel does not provide a shuttle service you need to use a local shuttle bus which is $15 return. When checking out we mentioned we had some issues and the receptionist did not enquire what the issues were and just laughed in response. I would not recommend staying here if you are expecting 5 star luxury and service, you will pay 5 star prices though This review was submitted to the hotel prior to posting this review on Google and they never responded.

Good: The staff were attentive and nice The kids really enjoyed the pool The service at the breakfast buffet was good and the quality of the food was generally high. Bad The condition of the room was well below standard for five star accomodation. There was a strong mould smell on arrival - with visible mould around air conditioner vents. The shower didn't drain properly. Dishes were not clean. Restaurant service during dinner was poor. Quality of room service food was exceptionally poor.

Yelp
I was impressed with this place. Stayed for three nights while on a huge group trip and loved the spacious rooms they felt more like an apartment than a hotel. Huge, expansive fully stocked kitchen with two bedrooms, a large lounging room, a bathroom, a large balcony with spiral stairs leading up to the shared rooftop area with a jacuzzi. Awesome! These rooms also have laundry available for free with all the amenities to do laundry you need. This was amazing bc I had a full bag of things I needed to wash for the rest of my trip as well as some tennis shoes I washed. The resort is stunning - based around a huge shared pool that branches off from the main lobby and has "fingers" that go left to right with first floor rooms that allow pool access and water views. This place embraces nature (of course) and has active breeding of birds and lizards and such in the garden spaces. If you are a family of people on vacation this is a wonderful spot to stay as it feels like home away from home with fully stocked apartments for use as well as garages and parking. To be clear - it's not 4-5 stars - more like 3.5 as the food and service level is nowhere near 4-5 star level. But it is comfortable and pretty and convenient to the Great Barrier Reef if that is why you're here.

Yelp
To be very honest with you, the resort is ok. If anything, it's mediocre at its best, but we must never settle for mediocrity. Nothing is terrific enough for me to form a positive opinion. Vice versa, nothing is terrible enough for me to form a negative opinion. Like it's just ok. The pool is big, that's about it. The room comes with all utilities, though they are old and worn out. One of the light bulbs even went out. The beds, especially the pillows are really uncomfortable. I am literally suffering from so much back pain right now as I am writing this. The WiFi speed is somewhat below the acceptable standard. The staff is cool; they aren't exceedingly amazing, but they are fine. The Vie spa was quite a bit of a let down to be very honest. I did the Heaven On Earth treatment. The treatment includes a massage, a facial, a scrub, and a foot therapy thing. The massage was not great. The masseuse seemed tired and legit did not assert any pressure on any parts of my body. The facial was good though. My face was left fairly soft afterwards. The masseuse had very little attention to detail. I more or less had to lay the massage bed out myself. The warm pocket for my foot was also not properly put on for me, leaving one of my foot half out. For more or less the same price, you can probably go to resorts in Thailand, Bahamas, Phuket, that provide much better service, leaving you more satisfied and happy. To sum it all up, the entire experience was meh. Factoring in the price you're paying, don't really know if the the trip was worth my time.

Yelp
This was definitely a resort with many WOW factors. To register, you approach the open air reception desk with friendly staff. The ambiance and plantings are very tropical in this area with comfortably grouped seating areas. There are two stories of rooms, but all of the accommodations are situated around lagoon style pools that wend their way around the property. Just walking to your room is a relaxing experience. Our room was clean with a huge bathroom, including a hot tub! There was plenty of room and a comfortable bed with sliding doors leading to a small patio overlooking the pool. When we checked in, I was a little worried about crazy pool parties late at night, but it was actually quiet during the late evening time. The fitness center was fantastic! There were two small rooms, one with up-to-date treadmills and elliptical machines; the other had weight machines and a wonderful assortment of free weights. These spaces were modern and very clean. During our 3 night stay, we ate breakfast everyday in the beautiful dining room. The food was traditional breakfast fare, but the room was open to the air and near the pool, so quite a nice place to linger over a last cup of coffee or tea before starting the day.

Yelp
Pullman Sea Temple Port Douglas features a stunning 3000m2 lagoon style pool in the centre of the resort. You can swim around the resort or simply relax with a cocktail in your hand. The pool and bar areas are the centrepoint of this resort. But there are other options. The rooms are big and some have their own private plunge pool. Water temp is a little chilli June - October. Take a walk along the beautiful Four Mile Beach or get a treatment at Vie Spa - it's all up to you. For lunch or dinner they have a nice cuisine at AQUA Restaurant. It's not that far out of the township so take a local bus or taxi to the village of Port Douglas or hop on a sea tour and explore the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Yelp
Amazing Resort!! Stayed for 3 nights in December. Upgraded to plunge pool apartment at check in. Dined each day for breakfast, great food and plenty of it. Not so keen on the pancakes however (if I am going to be picky). Pool was great and we utilized both the lagoon pool and our private pool. We also had room service and the food was delicious and timely. Service was really good. Bit of a hiccup on the bill on check out, built quickly rectified with no issue. The best thing about the stay though the bed!! Both the pillows and bed were so comfy that I didn't want to get up each morning. All in all awesome stay!

Yelp
The Sea Temple Port Douglas is stunning. My husband and I have been to Port Douglas 3 times to celebrate anniversaries. The last time we stayed at the Sea Temple Port Douglas resort and were totally blown away. We had a 2 bedroom plunge pool apartment which was spacious, modern and private. Next time I would stay in one of the swim out apartments though as the plunge pool apartments are around the edge of the resort and you don't get to enjoy the full resort atmosphere as much as you do with the swim out apartments which open onto the beautiful lagoon pool. The restaurant buffet breakfast was delicious and the one dinner we had there was divine. The beach is only a two minute walk away and town is about a 10 minute drive although there were a couple of local restaurants within walking distance. The day spa there is expensive but absolutely worth it...... stunning! I would actually recommend the Sea Temple to families as well as couples as the apartments are self catering. Loved, loved, loved the Sea Temple. Can't wait to go back!
